Windows 7 RC Compatability Issue - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently upgraded my system to Windows 7 RC Build 7100. The thing is that the X1 can sync perfectly fine with the computer, but it doesn't charge the phone anymore. Woke up this morning with the battery critically low. Tried reinstalling the Windows Mobile Device Center, but that didn't help. Anyone know how to resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance.

Make sure the phone is charging, there is also an option in windows mobile to not charge the battery when connected to PC. Settings / System / Power
If the option is not checked then it's a hardware issue not a software on. W7 does not control whether or not the usb port has power (it's always on), try a different usb port or a different cable.

I'm using the Windows 7 RC since 2 months ... it works perfectly with win mob...

Same here. Don't think it's a Win7 related problem!

HTC Touch Diamond Won't Sync With Active

Hi All
I'm at boiling point!
I have a new HTC Touch Diamond locked to the Orange Network and I am trying to unlock the phone. I have got the software to unlock it from this website (thank you very much) however I am having serious problems connecting my device to my laptop. I have installed the Active sync 4.5 software that came with the phone but when I connect my HTC to the laptop it is not registering at all with the computer never mind the Active sync software.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Active sync but to no avail. I have also disabled my antivirus software (AVG Internet Security). This is becoming very frustrating. I am aware that I can purchase an unlock code remotely but even if I do this there is still the problem of establishing a connection with my laptop.
Please if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Cyron_at
Thanks for replying. I should have mentioned that I had tried that. Still no joy. Any other suggestions?
uninstall activesync
install activesync
connect phone
wait 10 mins....
if still not connected, run activesync on ur phone and check connection etc.
have u charged the phone in the car?
Thanks for that. Will try to do that when I get home as my work computer is running on Vista.
No I have not charged it in a car.
I am downloading Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 Driver for Windows Vista at the moment. I'm going to see if i can connect here at work. Do you think i should try this or wait until i get home and try it on my XP laptop? Could this cause problems switching between the two?
shouldn't cause a problem.
i asked about charging in the car, as there is a generic problem with HTC phones which means that if they are charged in a car whilst the car is being started a high current can blow the USB circuit, meaning it will charge, but not sync.
worth keeping in mind
Hey Mugggle
Have finished installing Mobile centre for vista and I'm experiencing the same NO SYNC problem. Does you earlier suggestion of leaving the phone connected for 10 min apply to this software?
By the way thanks for the Car tip!
not sure, it usually applies to slower PCs, as it has to load the drivers, which can take a while
make sure you've fully uninstalled active sync from ur laptop, it doesn't like being installed in parallel to mobile device centre
I will try that at home. do you have any suggestions on how to get my phone synced using vista? I;m still having the same problems.

That would be an overvoltage, not current. However, the USB adapter should have some regulation of the input voltage. So I am a bit skeptical, even though it could be a potential risk, no doubt about it.
My situation:
I use ROM 1.93
I charge my HTC Diamond Touch often in the car. It's connected while I start the car.
I had no sync problems when the phone was new.
Sync didn't work at all after some weeks.
File transfer via USB is no problem at all.
Since 1.93 seems buggy with a string of problems I was getting desperate to update the ROM. With no Sync it's not that easy. So I tried a direct motherboard USB port, plus a very short 20cm USB cable - and it worked!
If nothing sync, try that rear PC USB port and get those ultra short USB cable.
Interestingly, sync works again with any port and any cable with ROM 2.03.831.2 WWE
Firewalls & Ports
Make sure you have windows firewall settings all disabled. I had the same issue... fixed when I turned the firewall off.

do you mean this in real?
i just realized that i yesterday did charge the phone in car and today it is not sync at all!
it's a warranty issue?
because the phone is useless
thank you
I'm having the same trouble, My XDA vario 3 (t-mobile in UK) charges via the USB cable only. My home and work PC's are not picking up the connection. Not even to view file contents via explorer.
What can I do to fix this, as I've preformed a hard rest in the hope of solving this problem and now have a blank phone.
I've not charged my phone in a car. But t is around 18 months old.
My computer didn't find my Diamond after I hardreseted it so I had to reinstall Active Sync to get it working again. Strange that this didn't help you.

Problems Syncing: Connecting the cable makes the phone sluggish

Greetings,
I´m having a weird problem: my phone won´t sync anymore. It happened once in the past, but it was right before I tried a new ROM (flashing a new ROM made the problem dissipate).
But now it is persistent: when I connect the USB cable, the phone simply becomes sluggish, like a process eating 100% cpu. Disconnecting the USB cable instantaneously makes it responsible again.
Problem is, the PC won´t detect it anymore, so I can´t successfully sync. Does any1 have any idea about what is going on ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
fyi, I already connected the phone with task manager running, just to see if any hidden app would come up eating 100% cpu. No luck - everything seems to be normal in task manager.
fyi2, connecting the charger won´t make it sluggish - only the usb cable connected to the pc.
Remove/reinstall Activesync from PC, maybe....
Hard reset, maybe....
This is normal, I have seen it on WM6, 6.1, also a X51 running WM5 I guess..
Thanks guys. I´ll try reinstalling ActiveSync.
Funny thing is, just tried syncing with Bluetooth and it worked... It just won´t work via USB...
Update: uninstalled windows mobile device center and drivers (Im using Vista 64 btw). Installed it again and... it won´t recognize the phone (in device manager the driver has an exclamation mark).
Does any1 know how to get the driver working ?

WMDC + Windows 7 = doesn't recognize Fuze

I realize since I have a RC of Win 7, there may not be drivers for my Fuze. But just wanted to ask in case anyone here has gotten it to work. My Q9h synced fine under WMDC + Win 7.
What I did so far:
I deleted partnership with Q under WMDC.
Rebooted PC.
Under USB to PC, AS is selected and Enable adv network functionality is un-checked.
Plugged in Fuze.
No drivers installed; No prompt to install driver.
Phone is charging via USB
Neither WMDC nor W7 sees phone.
So I'm guessing it's a driver problem. Anyone know if there are drivers for HTC devices for Win 7? Or is there some other setting in the phone other than USB to PC I need to change?
Update:
I can sync via Bluetooth with no problems.
well..
Can you post more details? What build number, 32 or 64 bit. Mine worked just fine, and I had a Diamond I was using before hand.
Ive had a similar thing happen in Vista. I think WMDC is just garbage. The only way I fixed it was a system rollback to when it had once worked. Sounds like you never got it to work in the first place though.

What I don't get is why WMDC worked for my Q and not my Fuze.
Could it be the cable? Are there differences in USB cables? I am using a USB cable that can be detached from a wall charger.
Mine works. Did nothing out of the ordinary.
Last night I put on Office 2010 and it wouldn't sync, so I deleted the partnership, but when I connected the Fuze again it re-added. What I ended up doing was hitting Sync on the phone. You can see the sync happen in Windows Sync Center.
Will check back on you a little later

When you connect the phone, at some point it should install a driver. Maybe you could try reinstalling WMDC

How do I do that?
Problem solved.... it was the cable. I bought a new one that was specifically a data cable and it worked. Lesson learned, not all usb cables are the same....
Thanks for everyone's input

Sync with Windows 7

Anyone know how to sync with Windows 7???
I've tried to install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1, but it don't recognize my phone.. And ActiveSync won't even be installed due to compability reasons. (Doh, it's Win7)
I really like Win7, so it would be great to sync the phone
Try another cable or something, the mobile center should work.

But the mobile is charging =/ So i don't think something is wrong with the cable and it worked just fine in XP (ActiveSync). And when I connected the mobile first time, the PC recognized it and installed the drivers for the mobile and the ActiveSync started on the mobile. Should it start on the phone when mobile center is running on the PC?
So does that mean you didn't try anothe cable? Because if you had researched this sort of thing (aka searched) you would find that the cables do this quite often.

i don't know what is the issue for you as i have win7rc1 and i can sync fine using the mobile device center.
If you are using 64bit Windows 7 then you need to download the updated drivers for the HTC. I am not sure exactly where Microsoft has these located, but it automatically downloaded and installed the new USB drivers that it needed just the other day for me......
Works excellent. I was using the 32 Bit version of Windows 7 before this and even though its based under Vista couldn't get it to synch up.
I have Win7 64 bit...with internet already established through another source, when I plugged in my tilt, it found the driver and installed it and has worked flawlessly ever since.
Works fine for me too on Win7 x64.
First, try another cable. USB has 4 connections, only 2 are needed to make it charge, but for communication it needs all 4. Maybe try another USB port on your PC as well.
And as said before, make sure you have an internet connection so it can download the drivers.
WMDC is already built in with Win7, so don't install any other versions from Microsoft Download Center.
Works fine for Win7 x64.
but Win7 x86 "NO"
you can use virtual XP mode for 32bit version
Updates?
Hi. I had this same problem following a hard-reset of my phone. After a while of searching I found that an update (designed for Vista) is available on the microsoft website. Downloaded, installed and sync worked first time. Yey
It should work with Win 7 RC 32 bit - does for me!

Then you're doing something wrong (such as not having the TyTN II correctly connected to your desktop PC or not having internet access on it to download whats required perhaps). I plugged my TyTN II into my Win 7 RC (32 bit) PC and after a bit of hardware detection and some automatic downloading it works (allbeit still with slow file tranfers but at least the UI is better than Win XPs Activesync). Welcome to xda-dev by the way
I think that it matters wether or not it's Windows7 RC.. Right after it came out someone was using the beta and it wouldn't work for them.

I was wondering the same but as the RC version is still avail for free until 20 Aug, anyone with the Beta should be formatting and installing this instead. Grab it while you can
I am running RC 7100 and I have no problem syncing.
Only issue I have now is, when the phone is connected, it won't let me delete or replace any .xml files through file explorer. This was never an issue with XP and Active Sync.
i just found what the problem is. Open settings on phone, then connection tab, open usb to pc... and there uncheck (enable advanced network function)
With it checked it didnt work on mine win7

I had that problem when I first bought my TyTN II but it was because I was attempting to connect it to my ancient USB 1.1 ports on my Pentium III. As soon as I installed a modern (but cheap) NEC chipset USB 2.0 PCI adapter card, I found I could connect fine either with or without advanced network functionality enabled. This is a USB port hardware compatibility issue rather than a Win 7 issue and I suspect even if users have Win XP on the machine that behaves this way, they'd still get the exact same response.
your speaking about USB 1 when others is speaking about Win7. If you dont know win 7 is the newest MS OS. So, i belive, all who use win7 have USB2. So there is question why you mention usb1?
And i didnt sad whole story. I had used phone with win xp for long time with that check on, and with one cabler... now on win7 i tried 2 diferent cables with that check on. Didnt work. Took it off and it started to work. So its Win7 issue.

Thanks for the explanation but my Pentium III is capable of running (or should that be walking) Win 7 RC and it has USB 1.1 ports (as well as a USB 2.0 card now). Given Win 7 RC was avail free of charge - don't know if it still is, I got mine in June, there'll be people who get it just to see what it looks like, even though the hardware isn't up to ideal spec.
I don't know what ports were being used in your case because as you mentioned, full details weren't supplied and we didn't have the whole story - we still don't know. Glad you've resolved the issue in your case but in a modern PC which can comfortably run Windows 7, I wouldn't typically expect this to be an issue. If the hardware is struggling to keep up or has USB ports of dubious quality/performance, then thats a different matter.
Sounds like win7 (my main OS now days) communicates with the USB ports in a different manner than XP or the other OS's. Good to know.

problem with usb connection

Having this problem:
When device is connected to any PC, nothing is detected at either end. Nothing happens (except power to the phone).
Tried switching between activesync and disc drive modes, with or without advanced network functionality, but the problem is prior to that.
I have to say these WM devices are pretty unreliable, I've had USB problems on more than one of them, compared with none on any other usb device.
Grateful for any help.
when you say you change modes, do you mean that you change it in the settings or when you connect the USB a screen pops up?
I am having the same issue. My phone is basically useless, I don't have warranty to send it back to HTC either.
Many people are having issues with connecting with Windows 7. I think there are solutions, but most of those people don't post replies when they solve their problems...
I have been able to connect to Windows XP, then suddenly one day it stopped for no apparent reason. So I don't think the OS is the problem in this case.
how about your guys try to checke the windows firewall setting first?
on the exception list, make sure all related activesync task are selected.
then try again.. hope that help
Tried that - in fact, turned off my firewall entirely - still no luck.
Device connects, and comes up as an "unknown device". Nothing else in Windows 7 sees it - not WMDC, or File Explorer, or anything.
This is really disappointing - how can a Windows Mobile device not work at all with a Windows OS?
i also have my firewall turned off, even worse thing is that the computer doesn't even recognize that a device has been plugged.
Same here, shaks 4.3 ...
I can't believe that Windows has this device listed as compatible with Windows 7. It isn't working, period.
mine stopped connecting to vista one day but would charge. I went an got another usb to mini usb cord at the PX and plugged it in and it now connects with my laptop and my mac. replace your cord before you start hard reseting.

I've tried several cords... but thanks for the advice.
i contacted HTC and asked them how much for repair w/o warranty, this is their response:
We apologize for any issues you are experiencing with your device and would be happy to assist. While warranty coverage would depend on a diagnosis by one of our certified technicians, based on the problems symptoms you have provided, costs for repairs could range from approximately $373.00 to $428.00. Please contact Customer Care at 1-888-617-1113 for service options and to set up an RMA for repair if desired.
this is hilarious, fking HTC ppl make sh*t w/ no technical support and charge ridiculous for repairs. i dont know what they thinking
had the same problem...tried everything to fix. i am with Verizon. Went to my Verizon store. They called in for me which resulted in Verizon sending my a replacement (refurb) which ironically(?) turned out to have a different issue. Back to store...another call...sent me a brand new diamond. everything ok so far. don't deal with htc....go to your carrier.
I've done a hard reset on my diamond, but the usb problem remains. Now I'm thinking it's a mechanical problem. I'll try and clean out the hole somehow and see if that helps.
I'm using windows 7 64 bit and the latest Windows Mobile device Centre with the Windows Firewall on and I have no problems connecting my HTC HD and Diamond.
To all of you who still struggle on UBS connection.
Here's my solution based on reading forums for almost two weeks and trying hundreds of settings. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate.
First you have to set regional settings on both PC and device on English.
1. Make suse you select ONLY ActiveSync under Settings/All Settings/Connections/USB to PC/ NO OTHER SELLECTIONS.
2. Tick "When the device is turned on, do not ...." under Settings/System/Power ( later, when establish connection for couple times you can uncheck it)
3. If Using NOD 32 disable Treat Sence and Disable detection of Potentionaly dangerous programs ( if using other antivirus disable similar options - they block connections they think are dangerous)
4. On your PC Uninstall ALL USB controlers and Hubs.
5. On Your device on home screen check and stop all programs running.
6. Turn OFF PC.
7. Connect USB cable to PC USB port and to phone.
8. Turn on PC and wait untill Windows instals all the usb stuff. If everything is OK Windows should recognize and install HTC PPC .... The WMDC or ActiveSync should start automatically. IF not start it manually and disconnect and connect usb cable on ppc. Wait untill it connects and HAVE FUN !!!
First couple of times you should be carefull not to move the phone or cable so you wont lose connection.
Hope this helps others, since I managed to get it work for myself.
Happy New Year to all of You!
will try this tomorrow,
btw, what's NOD32 and WMDC?
thanks for the post
OS -> Windows 7
PPC-> Mobile 6.1
Unchecked the "Enable advanced network functionality" box.
Until that it would connect just under Disk Drive option, Now it runs just fine with active sync too. Thank you
