I have been using different ROMs, some with wm 6.1 and others with 6.5, but all the ROMs have in common that they had TouchFLO 3D 2. I have noticed that when I had Opera or some other random app open, and when I clicked on the home button, or back button, or a call entered the phone (this 3 events while the apps where opened), the apps suddenly where closed automatically (or at least I thought so). When this happened the % memory used reported by quick menu growed to ~80%, this continuously happened until I got out of memory messages on Opera and the % memory used was more than 90%.
But this is the good news (at least for me, can someone with memory issues please confirm these?). I think that the apps were still open but just not available through quick menu nor visible like a process (but gwes.exe growed like Hell [10MB or even more]). I discovered this by accident: I disabled TouchFLO on "Settings - Personal - Today - Items tab" and when i checked on quick menu there were applications that were closed by one of the 3 events I mentioned early).
So I changed the option of Task Manager to End programs by tapping and holding "X" (default in this ROM is End programs by tapping "X"). Since I did this change, when one of the 3 events occurs the apps are not closed and my memory usage never gets to 90%.
So, can someone please confirm this?

I've used all three tools, but still face alarm/notification/reminder problems. Here's my experience so far:
ScaryBear: Lives up to its name! Its CheckNotification and ClearNotification utilities report a lot of duplicates, and (oops!) ALSO delete the critical replog entries required for successful sync'ing. That ensures I'll never use ScaryBear again, since I don't want to repeatedly have to re-create those replog entries.
PMClean: Not very transparent. Provides no clue as to which duplicate entries were found, or which were deleted. I found problems persisted even after using pmClean.
SKTools Lite: The best of the tools thus far. Shows the entire notification queue, clearly marks duplicates, and does not delete the critical replog entries required by ActiveSync. Besides, also provides a way to recreate those replog entries if lost.
Even after using these tools, I still find that alarms don't get triggered, notifications and reminders pop up hours after schedule and all at once several in a row, sometimes after reboot, reminders being triggered but not sounding etc.
Any other ideas how to solve the alarms/notifications/reminders problem? I use these features heavily, and (used to) rely on them to stick to schedule. As one can understand, not having them work is a major drain on productivity.
Any help appreciated.
Here's what I have onboard to deal with the "alarm/notification/reminder problems":
Scarybear CheckNotifications (I don't have the "Clear" app)
SKTools
MemMaid
PMClean
My experience:
In recent weeks, I have become less and less reliant on Scarybear and more reliant on using PMClean for my ad hoc cleaning up of my notifications queue. I agree PMClean is not very transparent, but after analyzing my queues after most clean-ups, I think I trust the results.
For good measure, I set the apps to automatically clean up my queues at pre-set intervals. For instance, I set SKtools to clean at 1745, MemMaid to clean at 0845 in the morning, and PMClean to clean at 0020 just before I go to bed.
In between intervals, since I put PMClean in my Startup menu, I can clean my queues anytime I want to on ad hoc basis.
(FYI, I use PocketInformant and SPB Time for all my reminder/task alarm and bedside alarm needs)
All of the above pretty much solved my reminder/task alarm problems when I was still using my Dopod 838Pro (aka Hermes). I'm still using the same regime on my Kaiser.
For my alarm clock (SPB Time), there are tweaks on the KaiserTweaks apps called "AC resume from suspend" and "Battery resume from suspend". I have those settings set for "60 seconds" each, meaning that my PPC is supposed to "wake up" 1 minute prior to the alarm sounding before it sounds. (..altho SPB Time is supposed to have incorporated this feature in the latest version already.)
So far so good. For me, anyway.
re: the deleting of the replog entries, here's my take on this: Sometimes (maybe once every fortnight) I would delete the ENTIRE queue including the replog items and rebuild them (via MemMaid) AND my regular repeating items (calendar, tasks, alarms etc), which are easily done within their respective apps.
The whole process takes maybe less than 15 minutes out of my lunchtime.
But.. if you still don't want to go thru the hassle of recreating the replog items (not really a problem since you're already using sktools lite to get them back; I use MemMaid by the way), then don't use Scarybear, I guess.
After following the clean-up regime above as best as I can, I haven't had any problems of reminder/task alarms not sounding when they should. Occasionally SPB Time would screw up, but screw ups now seem few and far between.
In fact, I can't remember the last time I woke up late because my alarm didn't sound.
Good luck tho'. And have a great New Year.
I'm using Pocket Mechanic Pro... it has a notification queue that lists all the running notifications (in detail) and allows you to clear duplicates or ones that are expired. I also like the Free Ram feature which defrags and compacts it. It also has a new Outlook cleanup feature which cleans up duplicates. There's a lot more functions also expecially concerning the storage card.

I agree Pocket Mechanic Pro is The Best. Memaid wiped out my phone twice and SKTools caused some major problems.
Pocket Mechanic Pro works flawlessly.
I get a whole bunch of script events in my notification queue. Anybody got any ideas? After a couple of months i get about 100 or so...
i am using memmaid to clean my notification queue. initially i had a problem with memmaid whenever i delete duplicate entries. But, the option of rebuilding DB_notify queue corrects the problem. i have not used pocket mechanic pro....so i cant compare both. To me Memmaid works good so far and for alarm i am using pTravelAlarm not intuitive though but i couldnt find anything better...
Could someome help me re: Notifications queue
I have SK tools,, I was having a whole lot of problems my device powering off (nothing to do with backlight settings),but not able to repower up with power hardware button, but my LED's were still showing.Anyhow, during long discovery process to fix problems that might be unrelated, discovered all these notification queues, which I removed, however I still have 3 of those repplog.exe showing up and a line (\\.Notifications\NamedEvents\\Ntimer-0-0 the bottom part of the screen says Start on timer with the Notifications\NamedEvents showing after that). Can't seem to remove that named events line,it stays put after trying to delete showing up with the repllog.exe's). Can I remove two of the repplog'x and leave one? I know when I try to remove one of them, it gives me a warning . Also, can anyone briefly describe steps to systematically have my system delete unnecessary notification files in SKtools. With all my Roms that I have tried out, this is the first time that I have seen so many notifications form. Many moons ago, I had a similar problem, did some type of fix, and now that I have it in spades, of course can't remember how to prevent. Thx for any help.
Has anyone else had an occasional scrolling lag in situations? It's happened to be on the Program List where the Program icons don't load immediately. Also, most noticeably in apps such as Beezz the scrolling is laggy... Is it just me, or are others experiencing the same...?
Early bump as I'm trying to decide whether a Hard Reset is in order, maybe I installed something that didn't fare too well. Thanks guys.
80% (if not more) of the 3rd apps are NOT optimized (or rushed diplomatically saying) for Windows Phone 7 OS. HTC Hub for example wasn't as fast as the new update for it.
I can make a slight lag (more of a chopping than lag) ONLY IF I visit WPCentral page which chops on my browser than after 4-5 minutes it disappears. So I am pretty sure it's not optimised well rather than a lag because let's face it , the hardware is there and the OS is damn fast.
Have you also experienced start menu icons taking their sweet times to show up?
I've seen some choppiness on 3rd party apps. Agreed that it is a developer issue as they learn how to make apps for wp7. beezz is better than it was, but for best results, m.twitter.com is your best option.

In almost 1 month of use, never I have. To continue my initial post, that is one of the reason why I haven't installed many 3rd apps. Personally I hate having a sleek OS and then enter an app and feel like Android.. In fact besides YouTube and Adobe Reader I have only 4 other apps installed.
Same here. I can repeatedly reproduce the program list icon thing by scrolling to the bottom of the list, then hitting the home key, it'll fly to the top of the list and you'll see "white stars" before it switches to the home screen instead of the icons. Happens in random situations too, this is just a consistent occurrence..
I'd like to point out that as a developer, the choppy scrolling is a platform issue with the way Microsoft have design listbox scrolling - Silverlight defaults to virtualising the list box and recycling the listbox items - and this works fine of the PC where there is enough processing power to recycle and virtualise whilst you scroll. However, with Windows Phone 7's limited processing power, and Microsoft's very unoptimised seeming implementation, listboxes can't virtualise data fast enough. Ergo, voodoo is needed to get it working to scroll smoothly You could turn off virtualisation, but then that greatly increases RAM usage, which in Silverlight is already and lot, and then you get comparatively long load & draw & render times, and blargh. There's no one good way to do it yet for long lists - not until Microsoft go and optimise the Silverlight platform better.
I'm assuming the program list icon thing is to save RAM - you can also get it with the Home screen tiles if you have a lot of tiles on it - and saving RAM is something Windows Phone is going to like to do, seeing as the apps and the Silverlight platform use up so much RAM
i had my hd7 for almost a month now and experienced lag on it. there was also an instance that icons of the apps i installed via market place took a few seconds to load up. theres also this occasional slow response time of the unlock screen. i still have 9gb of space though
Hi. Just a general question about resident in memory. I noticed in the Xposed Apps Settings Module there is a "resident" option you can select.
As I understand, this allows you to keep your program in memory, presumably so that it starts up faster. Are there other good reasons to keep programs resident? For example is this a way to improve multitasking experience? Can it hurt performance because, if overused, you can start hogging too much memory? Another situation: sometimes I would edit a file using Polaris and then put it in "background" by pressing home button. Most of the times I can return to where I left off in Polaris via recent apps but sometimes the new changes are missing. This usually happen after some heavy usage or after several hours had passed. So, besides just saving changes, would selecting "resident" for Polaris prevent this from happening?
Hello,
I have an Ativ S GT-I8750 and i have the following problems:
1) It restarts randomly (only every Saturday so far, which I find strange).
Sometimes it restarts only one time, other times it restarts 3 times in 4-5 hours, etc.
I suspect one of the installed programs is causing it, but i am not sure which one.
I have reset the phone and re-installed the apps but nothing changed.
OS version:8.0.10327.77
firmware revision:2424.13.5.1
hardware revision:15.15.1.0
radio software version:2424.13.5.1
radio hardware version:0.0.0.800
Bootloader version:13.04.19.21
Chip soc version1.5.32
Is there a way to find out what is causing the restarts?
2) Today, after the last random restart, the program list appearance changed.
It changed from list A to list B (check attached images)
I really hate the latter version. I uninstalled several apps in order to make the list shorter, so it would return to its initial state, but it did not.
Any ideas how to remove the initials from the apps list?
Thanks
Have you tweaked the phone at all (interop-unlock, etc.)? That shouldn't cause the problem, but if it did we would need to know.
There's a way to pull some diagnostic logs off the device using the Diagnosis app, but I can't help you interpret them.
Not sure what's up with the icon shrinkage; that's just weird. As for the jump list, it appears when you have a minimum number of items (45?) in the list - this includes email accounts and such - and there's no official way to get rid of it short of hard reset. In practice, I'm pretty sure that state is controlled in the registry, though. In any case, given the massive speed-up in how quickly it lets you navigate the list (tap any of the heading letters, then tap the first letter of the app you want to launch and it skips to that part of the list) it's not something I've ever tried to get rid of. Once you have a hundred or so apps installed, operating without it will seem impossible.
No tweak whatsoever.
The icons did not shrink, i pulled these images off the web just to show the change in the app list.
I do not use that many programs, so that is why i do not like the jump menu.
Thank you for your time and keep up the good work!
Hello together,
I searched through the whole forum but I did not find any thread regarding the problem I have found.
I own a Nokia Lumia 1520 (RM-937). It was flashed with WP8 version from APAC.
I updated it to WP 8.1 via developer preview app.
Language and region is set to german/germany.
I have a 32 GB SD card.
Now its working almost as expected and with known issues.
But one thing is very bad: This device has almost 2 GB of usable ram. But when I minimize an app via Windows Button (e.g. Internet Explorer; only one tab opened) it constantly reloads the whole page after only 30 seconds of being minimized.
The same for other apps like amazon kindle.
It feels like an android device with only 512 MB of ram.
It only costs seconds. But IE eats all my contingent given by my provider. I have LTE enabled and the page is loaded so fast, that I cannot stop it.
With WP8 the browser stayed in memory even for days without reloading the pages.
So I expect that behaviour from WP8.1 too.
Reboot helps only for couple of minutes.
Even with all other apps closed (hold back button and swipe down the app to the bottom) that behaviour is there.
Someone here with equivalent experiences? Any help?
You can test this: Open IE. Load a website. Minimize via Start Button.
Open other apps and use them for a couple of minutes.
Afterwards open IE and look if the page is beeing reloaded.
Is there any method known to look, if there is any app that blocks the memory? Like a task manager?
Maybe it's only an error that happened during the update!?

Windows phone 8.1 multitasking now is similar to windows 8 multitasking, that is, an app still runs in background for about 10 seconds after you leave the app.
The system also does a lot better at suspending apps and saving their state upon tombstone, so even if you leave the app and said app is automatically killed because you opened too many apps, the system will restore its original state when you open it again.
I do not have any issues with internet explorer running in background after i disabled all background communication for it from settings.

Hi,
thanks for your answer.
I know these new behaviour and read about the differences.
Whats strange now: I uninstalled the app "Battery", deleted temporary files, made a system backup to OneDrive, copied some files from phone to my PC, installed the Microsoft App "Diagnosis" to give a message to the developers and now this strange behaviour is away so far.
Ok, I have to consider again, that this version is only a "Developer Preview".
When I have news about this problem, I'll give a message in this thread.
