Well, I was creating a custom ROM with the IPL and SPL files from the T-Mobile 2.26, The Faria / Shogun UWC ROM, the molski Splash screens and the Cingular 2.25 GSM to make a "complete" ROM to see if it would resolve my GSM issues. Computer completely locked up at 4%... After waiting 30 minutes with no progress I figured that it was bricked as the phone now only has the IPL and SPL info on the screen with no GSM or OS being reported. Forced device into bootloader and attempted to reflash but got communication errors with everything. Then for grins (I wasn't grinning!!!) I ran the 1.05 installer which didn't find the phone either ... but then it just went through anyway! The happy Button Beer Splash screen appeared and I had all the 1.x's! Successfully then upgraded back up to the 2.26 and all is well.
I think that someone was smiling down at me!!!
Just wanted to share as maybe this just might help someone.
*** For those that needed the ftp location to Button's 1.05 Basic Downgrade ROM ***
YOU BASTARD, Just Kidding I am happy for you.
Well, probably just tell everyone where you get the installer that solved the problem

Every time I've seen the IPL/SPL not change from the button 1.05 it's because someone didn't unlock the CID.
Is that fast enough?

LOL....yeah, I've got a pretty long line here myself. BTW, it is me or has the number of people trashing their phones started to get ridiculous? I mean, on one hand it sucks to be them for not knowing anything about what they're doing but on the other hand, it's just a matter of time before someone ruins their phone and looks into legal recourse because that seems to be all the rage these days.
Holy cr*p... he said hurry up...lol
sorry, i was just busting up, maybe it's a joke, but foreals, he said "hurry up"... who says that... especially when asking for help. Anyways, just wanted to show my appreciation for the rom, what you, faria, shogun, and all the beta testers are doing is amazing... Can't wait till the release...

I agree that there seem to be more and more people now that don't have the patience to wade through the numerous threads and posts here regarding the possible pitfalls regarding upgrading a ROM. Most often that "don't do this if you're not aware of the possible bricking, etc" message is on the very first page goes unread. Of course no one reads those.... I mean, who reads a EULA (End User License Agreement) ???
I'm actually having a great day when I don't respond to a post regarding a question I already answered on the same page... but we've all been there!
And I pity the fool that tries to sue me!
Ah, I'm just ranting as I live for the abuse....
I am glad I did...saved me a lot of potential problems... but anyway, molski's new rom really works great...
a big pat at the back of the great guys in this forum that gave us all the wonderful wizard roms... =)
Cool, I was just curious. I've worked for a couple of people who had way more money than brains and I could easily see them showing up, not wanting to be bothered with instructions, ruining their phone and immediately calling a lawyer to have the site shut down and all those behind it burned at the stake. But they could spell, so that had that going for them. Which is nice.
Personally, I liked a message somewhere on here from some clown who goes on a rant about how "windoze" sucks (and used all the rest of those trite old sayings that were kind of cute 15 years ago when someone still cared about OS/2), then talks about how he was too high to be bothered with paying attention to what he was doing, trashed his phone so someone help right f-ing now. That's class right there. Makes me wonder how some people find a door to get out of the house in the morning.

OS/2 ... and I see that you're also a "senior member"... my we're showing our age
Actually I kinda liked CP/M but I'm so freak'n old I forget how old I really am ...
(but at least my spelling hasn't suffered...yet!!!)
Ha! Well...yeah, on one hand I still have a copy of OS/2 around here somewhere. On the other hand it wasn't too many years ago when I finally quit my position as the vocalist of a hardcore punk band, so it's all relative.
I make a pretty good living at this development thing and yet when I went to Tmo and got an MDA, there was still a little sticker shock. When I brought it home and thought about updating the radio ROM because the original was terrible, I read about updating for several days before I actually tried it myself. Read about how to recover from a bad flash, read about all the potential problems and how to avoid them. Read and read and read some more and when I thought I had it all down pat, I read it all one more time, just to be sure. And even then, I was sweating bullets when I did the actual update. This wasn't my first PDA phone and I had flashing experience from previous phones, the latest being a blue angel. Now that Tmo has released their 2.26 rom which works very well (for me, anyway), I absolutely refuse to flash anything else anymore because why risk it? To look cool? I don't think so.
Given that, it just boggles my mind how someone could drop that kind of money on a phone, bring it home, slap it onto a usb port and with no experience and not bothering to really read anything, attempt to flash anything and expect (expect!) to be successful. There was that goof I mentioned above and, even better, was that guy who decided the rom image in the ftp folder named "TEST_ROM_DO_NOT_FLASH" (or something like that, I forget offhand) was a good choice who then got downright indignant when people made fun of him for being such an idiot. I just don't get it. I have a 15 year old who thinks more clearly than that....and he can flash his phone. And has. Many times. And that's why I lost patience after a while.
I have no patience (maybe that's why I'm not a real doctor)

According to hermes thread this is simple rip of SSPL bootloader (my appologies to Olipro if it is not). Shuch tool exist for a long time but there are some reasons why it is not released to public. However now I'm forced to do so, use at your own risk. Development of better tool was in progress but now I'm not shure if I wish to continue with it.

Thanks for your contributions . I hope that you are not getting put off by the whole "pay for services" thing that seems to be going on. This one is bootloader image for flashing in to device, SSPL is the same image wrapped with stuff needed to start it from WinCE.
This is for those users who want SSPL functionality in flashed-in bootloader. Most average users (don't playing dangerous games with flashing probable crap to radio) won't need this.

Technically it is half a rip off: Olipro "backported" your bypass-signature patch to hermes SPL-1.04, but he had to reimplement the "show itself as SuperCID" patch because this on 1.09 just requires a NOP, but the default on 1.04 is to assume CID (remember the CID checking bug in that bootloader?), so implementation is different. The good thing of having it on 1.04 is that it allows to access the radio bootloader and 1.09 doesn't.

Matterhorn is absolutely right. Great work! We all are very thankful. Keep it up!
well, I'd just ripped the Trinity ROM to upload it...
but it's identical to Des's (except the version number) so no worries...
on another note; I think you'll find that I haven't actually released your SPL Des, I still have that on my computer; currently I've only sent it to pof and some guy who intends to play around with it... it's a shame someone has to be so petty as to decide to up and stop development of something just because someone ported their work to an earlier ROM, but if that's the way it's going to be then I guess it means that development will be slower as others are left to pick up the gauntlet
I dont understand Des behavior... what's the deal of Olipro rip/port/transform Des's code to an earlier version ?!
Isn't this supposed to happen in an open minded/source community ?!
I thought you were all here because you share the same interests... This new "wave of paid services" is really messing up things among you all and specially the free open source filosophy.
We're very thankful for all your hard work so all you can expect from us is a deep respect. I really hope that you can cut the crap of your divergences to continue providing your amazing solutions.
Des's not hyping up his contribution to the community and is trying to be cautious with releasing something potentially harmful. Nobody wants more bricks here...
Rip-off or not, if it's likely to cause problems (and Des probably knows better than others), it's not safe to make it public.
There's a lot of buzz lately in Trinity WM6 thread and now with patched SPL here. A lot is yet to be done, probably more than already done, why the buzz?

From technical side mostly because of that flashing without any integrity check is dangerous. It works for sspl but just because sspl is used by most users to flash shipped or somebodys cooked (and tested) updates. Potential users of standalone bl (wich claims to be crashproof but if signatures are fu*ked up or absent it is NOT) are seems to be more hackers than consumers wich means that they would flash not just shipped updates. I know about dozen of devices bricked (full of bads) due to incorrect signature size or absence of it. Do you whant more ?

Looks like my position need be explained bit clearer.
At first - here I do not hack or code for resulting effect or profit (I have a job for such things). I do this just for my own fun. And yes, for comunity benefit as well (because making community happy is a fun too).
And it is more fun for me to make things more featureful rather then make them fast (While community may benefit more from fast one. In short term.).
Surely you have noticed long pause between my promise to bring SSPL to all platforms where such tool is needed and present days. And that SSPL was not introduced even for platforms I have access to (and where it is actualy working as a proof of concept). And why standalone bootloaders for trinity and hermes was not released while it would not take any time for me at all. What happened ?
Does I have no time to code during last month ? Or have I been bribed by HTC not to do so ? Or maybe I'm going to post "give me 1000$ and you would get SSPL for your device" ?
No.
After some feedback 'bout several bricks and thoughts about new wave of upcoming HTC devices I came to certain decisions about what future version of SSPL would look like. It was designed that there would be no device speciefic versions of SSPL and SSPL itself would not contain any (HTC copyrighted) binary blobs. Instead it would be universal (PXA/OMAP/S3C) loader and universal patcher (which (with some good luck) may be able to produce patced bl for new device in couple of clicks) and set of romimage manipulating tools (to [re]sign and check for software bads) too. I do not mention bootloader patches improvement for more safe flashing and may be software bads recovering. As you can see this is quite complex job wich can not be done in couple of hours. And more - hacking is almost always fun for me, coding - just when I'm not too tired with my main job
Many (if not most) parts of this is done: loader successfully works on all three platforms, fuzzy ARM patcher algo is near to completion, image manipulating tools are not a problem at all (but even so they need to be coded and this needs time).
But as for now I lost fun in providing universal solution - most users won't notice any difference and developers... now there is a porter among us so there is no need to worry about new device support any more
(non-universal) SSPL for breeze and wizard as well as standalone bootloaders (with slightly renewed patches) would be released in days, for other devices as soon as I'll get access to them for testing purposes. As this is much more sooner than planned release of universal loader+patcher then community benefit (for now).
I dont understand Des behavior... what's the deal of Olipro rip/port/transform Des's code to an earlier version ?!

Let me explain: I have some relations with darker side of the force than hacking htc pda is. Among siths taking somebodys ***ck or ****en and "porting" it to newer(older) version of program called ripping. Siths do respect copyrights in their odd way and pay no respect to rippers. Nothing more

I do see your point here, obviously it is a double edge knife because it allows to easily brick the device if the flashed file is not well formated, but on the other side it also prevents the device to completely brick because of a bad radio flash which seems to be the most common brick for hermes devices, and it is starting to happen on trinity too. That's why first thing I asked was if it is possible to implement something to prevent bad blocks in NAND.

That's amazing, I hope you reconsider your decision as I (and sure a lot of other individuals too) would really like to see something like this happen.
We are curious by nature, I must admit second thing I did after you released SSPL was loading it on IDA (first was trying it on my hermes) and try to see exactly what you did. I just did it out of curiosity and trying to learn something from your impressive work. I was a bit disappointed because you didn't release the patches so I "had to" reverse what you did in order to understand it, but this was also challenging and fun for me. I for sure learned something on the process and finally I left it because there where some sections I couldn't re-base correctly on IDA.
I think Olipro just had the same feeling as I had, and he didn't release the Hard-SPL in the aim of ripping your work, but in the aim of helping the community reduce the number of bricks because of a bad radio flash, and he also gave you credit for your work, so I see this as a team work and not as ripping. I hope you can see my point too and forgive Olipro's audacity, and of course continue the development of such universal bootloader tool... in the end we're all here because we love to squeeze the devices and we all do this for fun and learning, don't you think?

Sorry, that's out of context; I'm not inferring anything more than that I extracted your patch, which might I add consists of a single NOP and two address deletions (although of course, identifying them is the kicker).
A while back... I asked you about it and was stonewalled by you; you offered me nothing, just some info that you were working on something or other further to it... I can only guess you assumed I'd be unable to extract the clean bootloader image and thus discounted me.
resultantly, I recently got tired of waiting and dumped the SPL. I suggest you head over to the Hermes forum where you will find that I haven't secretly ripped off your work and then called it my own.
I ripped the SPL out for myself, spoke to pof about it, and then decided that it'd be a good idea to port it back to the old SPL and release that, which I did.
I never got a chance to release this one, but all I was going to do to it was remove the button press patch... I did not plan to take any credit for this Trinity ROM whatsoever.
anyway enough of the *****ing and ranting. I hope we can move on; I appreciate you're clearly pissed that it got released as a regular NB Image but I only hope you'll get over it.
Also... I've made a modification to the SPL to ignore bad NAND blocks... not a clue if it works, need someone who's bollocked up their NAND to test it... obviously you need a way to get it on your phone first.

1. the radio you have is a WM6.0 radio. It will NOT work with WM6.1 which is what the rom you mentioned is.
2. You definitely need to get HardSPL flashed first. Not jumpslp. ONLY HARDSPL.
3. The video issue for me is minimal if that. I use Coreplayer and the video playback is perfectly fine.
4. The camera will always be weak. Nothing you can do about that without HTC fixing. it.
Hope that answered all you questions.
some rom's only work with some radio's (i think dutty includes compatible roms usually)
the cooked roms are faster than the standard rom so i wouldn't worry about the driver issue (that might be solved real soon anyway)
Thanks thanks! I will look for a ROM with my radio specifically then. That was really throwing me off and was not aware that a WM6.1 would not work with my phone. Will do the HardSPL right now and will look for Coreplayer. Thanks again loads.
OK, question again (sorry) but in Dutty's WM6.0 ROM there is this question and answer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361544
Q: I can’t hear any sound after flashing. When I make phone calls I can’t hear the other person either.
A: You need to use a NON-ATT radio. 12.32 is a proven radio. You can find them on the ftp as well.

Does this mean I can change the radio version and be able to use one of the newer ROMs? I'm just worried that Dutty's WM6 ROM is from January which is older than the Feb. HTC AT&T Tilt Rom I got from the HTC website.
Maybe I should wait since I read the post about new video drivers for HTC phones that should make the phone work better?
Sorry for the confusion.

2. Some roms are compatible only with certain types of radios
2. A chef might or might not include a compatible radio. Best is to check in the specific rom thread

Thanks thanks! I will look for a ROM with my radio specifically then. That was really throwing me off and was not aware that a WM6.1 would not work with my phone. Will do the HardSPL right now and will look for Coreplayer. Thanks again loads.

You don't need to look for a rom that is compatible with your radio. You can find a 6.1 rom that includes a compatible radio. There are many on this site

WHOA, I think you misunderstood. If you want a 6.1 rom, you just need a 6.1 compatible radio. To make this as painless as possible, I suggest you find a 6.1 rom with the radio included, such as Dutty & Laurentius. Good luck.
It's all in the links you linked and in plain english, but still hard to understand.
These are the ones that are for WM6.1 roms (as mentioned on each listing). You will need to mix and match to see which works best for you and your area. I hope this gives you a better understanding of how to read this. It all came out of the last link you posted..

Ok, I think the muddy water is getting less cloudy, heh. So I need to find a ROM that has a radio with it and it will work... probably. The Radio FAQ says the 1.64.08.21 radio is the best for GPS and best for battery life but has to be used with WM6.1. But it says it is "UK". OK, so I went into that thread and, sparse as it is, people are saying it is a "vodaphone" and "UK" radio. Does this mean that it will only work in the UK with whatever "vodaphone" service? I live in the US and have AT&T service.
So, from what I've learned so far, it looks like I need to get Dutty's hybrid WM6.1 [Apr 29] (I'm assuming hybrid means the radio ROM 1.65.14.06 is included), thats a WWE radio (whatever that means). Because the radio 1.64.08.21 is for the UK I cant use it in the US (another assumption on my part).
So, when I flash it, does that mean its going to automatically work with my AT&T service, or are there some settings somewhere that will let it know what carrier and who I am.
I sure wish you guys could see how confusing this is to a total noob ROM flasher. hehe I sure do appreciate all your help.

You don't HAVE TO find a rom with a radio in it. You have access to all of the radios. Find the rom you like, if it happens to not have the proper radio, then you now know where to get ALL of the 6.1 radios. After that test each one if you can't decide which is best.

As with any noob, I think your fear of the situation blinds you of the obvious. These wikis (as dry as they are) are extremely straight forward. If you start with the understanding that they provide everything you need then you will understand more. I hope.
OK, thanks for all your help. I wish that Radio wiki had a little more fundamental information about radios for us noobs. I mean, until you just told me, I was unaware that you could use any radio with any ROM, which in turn can be used on any kaiser/tilt (I assume). It could also have the steps one would go through to put the new radio in their phone. The advantages and disadvantages of each (assuming there are any since there are so many to choose from), etc. Ya know, whats the differences between WWE, Polaris, UK, etc and should I be concerned about that? Something more robust than just a listing of the different radios, if thats what a noob is going to be pointed to for radio questions. Just from the standpoint of a newbie knowing nothing about any of this and wanting to improve the phone they just got.
Thanks guys for your help. I think I have enough information now to start down the road to flashing my Tilt. And thanks for steering me in the right direction.

It's all in the wiki info for flashing roms.
Q: What is a Radio ROM?
A: The Radio ROM contains the drivers for the communication devices of your phone. Some ROM’s need one or more specific Radio ROM’s to work properly. Usually the chef, who created the ROM recommends a Radio ROM. But don’t mind, if your Radio Rom does not match, you can always flash another without needing to flash the ROM containing the Operating System (OS) again.
You can check the version of your Radio ROM when you click Start > Settings > System > Device Information or booting your device (there will appear three lines of red text. The Radio ROM version is the number after the R:.
You can download Radio ROM's at the xda-developers FTP-Server in the Uploads/Kaiser/Radio-Folder. Username and password are both 'xda'. To install it, download, extract and execute it. Then follow the instructions on your screen. Flashing a Radio does not delete any files on your device's ROM.
To choose the perfect Radio ROM for you check this thread.

EDIT** sorry I was in a hurry to get this out and it didn't make sense.

Take a look at this thread for more info.
If it was just the radio (as you say) then it would be listed like this
1.58.21.23
Seems like what you just said wasn't there, was there..
I honestly think people are mentally blinded by their fear of the unknown.

OK, well, not to be argumentative, but you just pulled information from a whole nother place I assume, since thats not in the radio wiki I was pointed to... sheesh. Its very confusing to someone who doesn't know the layout of this place. Also, the differences in the radios isn't addressed. Whats a "Polaris", whats a "WWE" etc? And yes, I said its a listing of the radios and what WM they work with. But what does that tell me as a noob? I have no idea what that stuff means.
Take for instance, the guy I just helped. It took me one post to send him to the exact place that answered his exact question. Since I just happened to see that when looking through all the endless wikis and FAQ's and sub threads in them. How hard is it to just point a person who is asking a question to the place that answers it? Why say "Read the wiki."?
It seems its easier to actually help with someone who's asking for it than to argue with them why they don't really need your help, and just go read the wiki.

They are the different phones listed on the main forum page (like you had to pick the kaiser phone as the one you wanted) and they are listed in the wiki.
It tells you they were taken from a polaris phone.. It's english.. What else do you want, the frequecy, ohms, etc that it transmits at? There really isn't much more to tell about this specific radio.

First I'd like to mention that I am grateful for all the developers on XDA working on these phones. I'm no programmer but I know plenty who are in all fields so I can appreciate what you are all doing.
I just wanted to create this thread to see how close we are to getting our hands on the HardSPL for Rhodium and any updates on development.
I've had my Touch Pro 2 for about a week and half now and already bored with it. The phone itself is great, but Windows Mobile 6.1 seriously sucks.
I really want to start using Windows Mobile 6.5, which brings me to why I created this post.
If anyone can shed some light on this I'd appreciate it.

Olipro and cmonex are still searching for mobile devices with hynix memory to test some stuff.
In short, don't expect anything soon and have patience
what
how do we know if it has that memory so others can help look.
just asked permission to Olipro if it was ok if I wrote a tutorial regarding this...
Uhm...I'll open a new thread with step-by-step instructions on how to help them out
Hope it will help them. Gimme about an hour to write a detailed tutorial.
*EDIT* Tutorial is up: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4035499#post4035499
hmm this thread will be good for the usual "hardspl waititing posts".. when release comes, we (olinex) will just create the real hspl thread, so mods will not have to clean up for release (like for topaz they had to).
as to why this flash type checking is so important: on topaz the hynix ones really just got lucky by not getting their mfg partition corrupt. (no one got it corrupt but as i said that was luck) i want to avoid any such problems on rhodium.

Does this mean there is a feasible solution for Samsung based units ?
I am surprised that it makes a difference based on the fact HTC wont have made a separate spl for hynix based units. and rom upgrades will contain the same info...
can hard spl for samsungs be realeased with a link to the tutorial on how to ensure you have samsung?
darides tutorial suggests most people seem to have samsung anyway.
infact has ther been a hynix unit seen in the wild?
Cheers

Perhaps Olinex can make a version for samsung that checks on the sspl that the memory is samsung or not. to avoid bricks or other problems.
I have not seen or know anyone with hynix memory on their tp2 after checking about 5 different units from my friends and family they are all samsung. My vodafone one is samsung too.
it's great news for me
is it a problem if everybody have the samsung chipset ?

Hi Guys,
I can't put into words how much I respect and revere the information posted on your web-site and I apologise for asking the million dollar question. But I need to know.
Can we please have an ETA / timeline for the release of the HardSPL for our HTC Rhodium.
I hate my Vodafone UK branded HTC Touch Pro 2. It is red and so am I with anger. Joking aside I love HTC standard ROM's. The last one I put on my HTC Touch Pro was amazing.
Please, keep up the work....
Kind regards...

If you want to flash the HTC Shipped ROM, look out for the Goldcard methods. I'm not going into detail here because it's off topic and well documented else where. If all else fails cmonex normally helps via PM.

I can totally understand people begging for this. I nervously waiting for it to, but not to install custom ROMs. I'm waiting for it to get blackberry connect running. To achieve that I need to manipulate the device ID in the ROM itself, to fool RIM, let them think it's running on a proper device. But to flash this manipulated ROM I need HSPL (or does someone know a way to manipulate the device ID (HTC-Rhodium) in another way?).
However, asking and begging does not help or make stuff easier or getting it done faster. We all need to be brave and patient and wait a bit and let olipro and cmonex get this stuff done.

Sorry to go a bit OT here but I am interested in your info about Blackberry Connect. I have just come to the TP2 from a Storm and one thing that is lagging behind with the TP2 IMO is the push email, would the 'updated' ROM you are proposing allow me to use the pushmail service from BB ?
Thanks,

Have you tried to change your AKU?
If NO you can change this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/Versions/Aku
and put this:
.1.4.3
I got ahead of myself and installed a radio update on a rooted handset running MoDaCo 2. I ran the updater in update mode and than it prompted a restart.
I restarted and it installed the package than next time i looked the screen was dead. the whole units been dead eversince. no reaction to USB/Power, or to any key combo startups...
Please tell me that this is not the end?
probably dead
from what i have read on this issue, if you flash a GSM radio it runs on a higher voltage and kills your phone.
if you have the insurance they most likely wont be able to tell what broke it.
well there isnt anything you can do. I hope you have insurence. this is the only way that we have found to brick these phones, is to flash the GSM radio.
good luck

Sorry, this is the end.
I didn't think MoDaCo had a v2 for CDMA heros...maybe thats why it told you to update the radio. Nothing that you can do, I think this is the only thing that has killed a Hero is someone not paying attnetion and updating the radio to a GSM one.
Please no one take this the wrong way, but...
At least once a week there's a thread like this, where someone has fried their phone by flashing the wrong package.
Accidents do happen... that's the way it goes. I've been in the tech industry for over 20 years and I've certainly done my share of "what does this do?", but there are pages and pages (and more pages) relating to the process involved in hacking around on your Hero phone and while it is getting easier to do due to the great work by the devs found here in this forum, reading and comprehension of exactly what it is you're doing should always be your #1 step.
Read, download files, read again, verify that you have the correct items, read some more and then start the process.
It's like the old woodworking saying, measure twice, cut once.
To the OP, it sucks that your phone got fried, but one can hope this serves as another warning to others.

It doesn't matter what he used. There are zero radio updates for the CDMA Hero, thus there is no opportunity, at all, to flash something back to the phone that would work.
If you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't be doing it. It's as simple as that. If you do it anyway, you should expect to get burned.

As was advised before, take your phone to a Sprint store and fain ignorance. Say, "For the life of me, I tried to turn it on the other day and it just won't respond!" The techs will fart with it for two hours, calling Sprint's techs and attempting every trick in the book to flash it before finally replacing it with a heartfelt apology. Don't tell them anything that you did to it. Just let them make the determination.

If you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't be doing it. It's as simple as that. If you do it anyway, you should expect to get burned.

We've all been down this road. Maybe not with flashing a phone, but with other things as well. That's called "learning from your mistake." He got a bit too enthusiastic and had a lapse in judgment...it happens to all of us, including me.
He probably thought he was flashing the MoDaCo CDMA 2.0 ROM for HTC Hero and just accidentally picked up the MoDaCo GSM 2.0 ROM for HTC Hero. Unfortunately, the problem is that the GSM Hero and CDMA Hero are named just that, HTC Hero. There is no real designation to the average user. Even the accessories like batteries between the GSM Hero and the CDMA Hero are different...causing an average user to make a mistake and buy the wrong accessory (got close in buying a battery for the GSM Hero because it was labeled as compatible with "HTC Hero"...only problem was it was for the GSM Hero and not the CDMA Hero, but nowhere on the site said that.)
Go easy on the guy...it's unfortunate, but it happened and now he's learned to be more careful in the future.

So curiosity kills me here. If 1.6+ has CDMA support in the future could we potentially have 1 set of roms for both devices?? I guess that is probably just wishful thinking due to other differences, doesn't change the fact the radio is still different and a different driver, not just kernel level stuff.
Ignore me i make less sense as i ramble.

Theoretically, yes. The ROM should be able to determine which radio is in there and set the settings accordingly (including loading the correct driver).
But, that's in theory. Not sure if that is how this going to play out at 2.1 (since that's the next release for our phone).

Hardly. I learn something every day.
But it doesn't take "total knowledge of the Android system" to know that:
(A) This over here isn't meant for my phone
(B) People repeatedly post saying "don't do it!"
(C) People who do it anyway report bricking their phone
should lead to:
(D) I really shouldn't do that.
It just takes normal reasoning ability.
I have zero problem with someone who says "gee, I don't understand the difference, will you tell me?"... but the one who decides to do something, I am going to assume the same of him that I would hope he assumes of me.
That he has a clue.
People who don't have a clue should be expecting to be reminded of the fact. This is how people *learn*. Conversely, if I make some stupid mistake, I hope someone pokes ME about it, too.
XDA is a great resource. If only more people would actually use it.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled fora.
To OP:
Do what they said and play it ignorant at a repair center, they will have no clue what happened and give you a new phone.
Well I have insurance so maybe that is why but who knows.
Don't worry OP I did the same mistake, just keep reading and you will be fine. Don't be afraid to get back into the modding scene, just read up before you try anything next time, and maybe create a thread to verify you have a solid process before doing it, once you learn everything that you need to be successful.

Okay...once you get your phone back from Sprint and you want to mod it again, my suggestion is to stick to the Hero CDMA subforum for your ROMs. All are guaranteed not to brick your phone.
The Darktremor has a list and links to updated ROMs.
Thanks for the info guys!
there are no sprint stores near by but I should be able to call support about it.
I know its a no no but they wouldn't be able to tell if the MEID was 0ed out would they?

No...without actually getting into the phone, they can't tell if you messed with it. And since the phone is dead, they won't be able to tell you tried to mod it. Just do what everyone here says and play ignorant.
