dpad up stuck - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

this is the first time searching has failed me, so i thought I'd ask. the oh so sensitive dpad up has stuck.. and i hardly ever use it!
i don't wanna send it in for repair. is there a way to disable it in registry or some other free software fix?
p.s.
first post yeeeey

are you sure its not the optical joypad.
try going to start/settings/system and select optical joytstick and change the sensitivity.
if not then i cannot help

nope, i just disabled it. if i press up on the dpad it will continue to register up until i get my fingernail in there and lift it
thanks anyway for the quick reply

Hey guys.. is there a way to make the screen more sensitive.. because every time i touch the screen sometime it doesn't wanna respond till i press it harder and its annoying... i remember theres a program and you gotta access the hot key or something like that.. can someone hElp.... i got the AT&T Tilt...
THanks guys...
Not 100%, but I do recall seeing in another post that the sensitivity is set as a registry entry that is changed when you calibrate your screen.
It seems that the calibration doesn't just set where your pointing, but how hard you press.
Try to do the calibration again, but press very gently when you do so.

[sticky!!!!] The "answer Only With Hw Buttons" option or similar solution...
...a lot to read... and a lot of solutions!
thank you guys!
Just an Idea... maybe its possible to set the Touchscreen sensitivity to VERY low everytime there is incoming Phone call. And then you cant accidentially press one of the onscreen buttons. However, i think registry entries only change after a softreset. MAybe there is some workaround?
this solution will affect the entire normal use of the diamond. :-(
anyone knows a cook?
it can't be so difficult.
I'm willing to pay the money saved in missed calls in one week. It could be a lot, for sure...
Agreed! it would be a great feature to have

Well actually i meant it a different way. Imagine.. There is an incoming Call... This call is recognized, and the touch sensitivity is set to very low. After the call is done, or the call is taken, the sensitivity is restored..
yep... but i suggest this like a second try....
the easiest way is to create a new phone skin.
the best is a "only hw buttons" option
i can't believe to the drink beer app... useless but true... and nothing about this bug... it's incredible.
I would be satisfied to have ALL the hardware keys to be locked during incoming calls and the screen locked and need to unlock the screen with ie a slide before be able to answer... As the hardware buttons also is easy to press when it's in the pocket when your sitting etc.

WE ALL NEED to lock the screen buttons.
WE ARE BORED of losing calls or answer accidentally taking out the diamond from our pockets.
WE NEED A SOLUTION.

I don't get it. My on/off button is set to lock all other buttons when the device is off, apparently meaning the display. At calls the display is off after a few seconds and I have two choices to bring it back - push the on/off or remove the stylo causing notes to launch. Hence the only insident where I can see a problem is when the display is trickered to go on (alarm or incoming call) and it's way down the bag you may push something. Here I suspect the solution is to have it in a pouch. Anyway, I have seen many yields about this so i'll surely be victimised one day as well.
Its a really challenging app to make.
Think about it. How can u lock the keys yet mantain the ability to answer anytime with one button.
Tough call
maybe using the light sensor ... in the pouch screen off- out the pouch screen on

No, touching the screen will not bring the screen ON, the only thing that will bring the screen ON is pressing a hard key.
It's an excellent idea to make the light sensor feel if it's in the dark, and if so shut down the screen, the only problem is that nobody knows how to reliably do this for all ROMs (even official).
Take a look here guys... already lots of posts on this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402916&page=10
1 a new phone skin without any buttons is the easiest solution i guess
2 changing the sensibility pressure works only on soft reset
3 light sensor... nice, but i don't think it's the best way to do this
isn't a predefined "lock screen" function on the diamond?
i'm a developer but i dunno nothing about pda application... i think it's weird if no one thought to a simple "block screen" function.

Xperia X1 Keyboard problem.

Is there a spot on THE RIGHT SIDE your Xperia X1's SPACEBAR where when you press down, YOU GET TACTILE FEEDBACK, but the press is NOT registered?
Thank you for any input.
Not on mines.
yea i do...
it gets annoying now...had to press it hard now

I have to GO BEYOND pressing and feeling the tactile feedback because the press isn't registered even with the click. This is a very frustrating experience, you just can't type with "faith", even with the click, you still have to be sure the "space" appears, or you have to backspace/left to insert a spacebar. It is highly irritating.
It is also the right side, which I use because I somehow seem to use the left alphabets more than the right alphabets when typing anything, so I have more freetime with the right thumb. And it is exactly the right side that is unresponsive.
Hey yogi, good for you.
I realised there was already another thread describing similar issues.
The thing is, my X1 is in the service center's custody at the moment for repair and they said that it is normal for the keyboard to be like this. I am really wondering if I should push for a keyboard replacement.
It is sad that Xperia as a device boasting a nice keyboard having wear and tear at such a pace.
Design
I don't think it's wear and tear. Mine has had this problem since day one, it's just to do with where on the key the actual "button" that registers the press is, and since the key is "bendy" it wont register in every place you press it.
Strangely, as one person said, they use their right thumb more, I being left handed tend to use my left thumb much more, infact I dont use my right thumb at all when touch typing on my desktop keyboard, BUT I find that I use my right thumb a lot more for the space bar on the xperia.

right now im practicing to start hitting that spacebar with my left thumb. It feels weird though...
Whenever im typing fast, about 5 times out of 10 the spacebar will not register. Bloody annoying...
Im thinking about taking it back for a repair...do you guys think it will worth the time?

My hands are pretty big and I have just noticed that because it causes me to type so slow I can infact type space just as easily with either thumb, or infact both at once.
My main concern is my thumb nails catching hte chrome at the top when i use the top row and I am just hopeful I dont "chip" it off.
Personally I don't think repair will help, it just seems to be a design flaw in the space bar, best solution might be to find if you can perform a mod on it yourself to make it more responsive, but that's if you're up for that kind of disassembly/work on such an expensive device.
okay, seems i've found the solution for the problem.
On spacebar, u've got to hit almost the right end part. If u hit it between the middle and right part, most likely it wont register.
I've had problem with the (ok) and the (.) key too. for this one you just have to press it slightly harder.
Ok.
I found also, that if you press arund 1/3 of the way along the space bar it makes a double click instead of a single one, this is the point at which it either doesn't register or it registers 2 spaces. As long as you try to avoid this section you should be ok.
gee...
Its all a bit too much for something that we put quite bit of money into hey
yes... i even get doubles or triples sometimes.. crazy keyboard imho
I have started to have this problem since last month and have reported it on another thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483644
It also started with the space bar, on the right side. I then practice in hitting the spacebar using my left thumb (instead of my right thumb) and it's OK for a while, until the problem affected spacebar on both the left and the right side.
Then it started to affect other keys as well, such as the Fn (blue) C, V, N and dot (.) keys, among others. The interesting thing is that the problem seems to be only affecting the keys on the lower part of the keyboard, and not the upper part one.
Basically similar symptoms: the key is not responsive and doesn't register the key we have pressed even though we get tactile feedback from the key. And sometimes, if we press harder, it will register double of the keys, sometimes triple. Really annoying and irritating.
Is it worth bringing the phone to the service centre? Do you think they will be able to resolve this problem, since it seems to be a design flaw to me.
Any feedback is highly appreciated.
Thanks.

well that is quite concerning. So it DOES gets WORSE over time
I'll try to speak with the guys down at the sony ericsson centre about this. Hopefully they have something to say
Yes, it does get worse over time. Over time, more keys will be affected by this.
mr_sheen, appreciate if you can share with us later what is the outcome of your discussion with the service centre guys about this.
Thanks.
latest update... indeed my keyboard is getting mroe crazy
Since more and more users are encountering this problem, I would foresee that this will become a common problem, and more users will start encountering this problem over time.
I would appreciate if the moderator can merge this thread with the other similar thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483644 ) and make this thread sticky until we can find satisfactory permanent solution from Sony Ericsson to this problem.
I will also try to bring my phone to the local Sony Ericsson service centre here in Singapore this coming weekend and see what they say.
i just got back from the center and they say that it was quite NORMAL. They said that it was a normal wear and tear and isn't covered on warranty. Is that so? i haven't got time to read all the warranty thing(too lazy...LOL) and im quite disappointed by this to be honest....
I live in Indonesia by the way, half the time the technician down at the Sony Centre haven't got any clue on how to fix an X1....bloody hell...

Erm... Device Lock?? Can anybody help on this

I Have gone straight from the Orbit2 to the Diamond2 however I seem to have a small problem with the device lock that i used to have on the front screen as it only works if i disable the touchflo3d homepage that i kind of like.
Anyone have any ideas/suggestions/3rd party screen locks that are practical?
PS. had the phone 2 days and not really had time to read manual thoroughly etc so if there is a really simple response to this then I apologize
try holding the end call button for a few seconds
Thanks. Am guessing that was in the manual but must have missed it in skim reading it.
not sure mate i don't read the manuals either i just asked the same question on the TD1 haha
I was also very disappointed by missing LOCK option - thanks, maybe next time, i could at least download that manual from HTC

TouchLockPro works on the Diamond2, it unlocks by light sensor and taking stylus out.
you can set long press of the end call button to lock screen "settings/personal/buttons/end key tab.
Anyway to set the TD2 to switch on by pressing any of the 4 bottons? Now mine is only able to be switched on by pressing the on/off button.
This lock the device automatical everytime when the backlight goes off.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight
AutoDeviceLockEnable from 0 to 1
After change no softreset is needed.
No way to activate the screen with the call/start/arrow/end call button?
you can use smart lock, it is free and very good.
How does one change the lock time?
I've set it but can't now access the time setting - I've read the manual and still no clue.

Kaiser Woes

Want to see if any other Kaiser users have had these two problems and if they have any fix:
1. Keyboard buttons aren't responsive (about half), meaning you have to press them hard for them to work. I'm suspecting this is from the sweat when i'm at the gym but then again it could be a keyboard aligning problem.
2. When I slide out the keyboard, the screen flickers in two places in a circular manner.
I know both are hardware issues so if anybody has any ideas, i'd appreciate it.
I have the same problem with unresponsive keys. I've had it a while and I've never used the keyboard with wet or dirty fingers. A friend got the same phone at the same time and has always had a more responsive keyboard, even from new.
If anyone has any ideas on fixing it, I'm all ears.
I'm curious, has anybody fixed their Kaiser's keyboard with the keys needing to be pressed hard in order to work?
Hard to press buttons
Im assuming it just needs cleaning out but any other ideas? Going to look for guides to take apart just hope it doesnt void a warranty
spray some windex on it.

Were you successful in doing this? I don't mind opening up the Kaiser, I just want to know what i'm doing and what the culprit is.
