so i had just rooted my g1 using the old method here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=553416
is it possible to install the cm updater on that setup, and download the latest cm rom with the updater and have it flash it for me?
also, does the cm rom use the newer or older app store?
tia... im new to linux and android, wm for 5 years and its quite a bit differant
Im a noob so I can't answer your first q but My CM 4.2.8 has Market version 1620.
well according to a guy in the comments section
http://androidandme.com/2009/12/news/new-android-market-is-carrier-specific/
the update is also being pushed to rooted roms. I might have not gotten it yet because I don't have data (I use wifi)
also, you aren't notified of the update but you can uninstall it by going into the settings->apps->market->uninstall updates

Hey guys so ive got one of the Rogers dream phones,.I was wondering if it is possible to flash one of the themes (meteamorph)? The reason I ask is that these phones are EBI1 not EBI0 like the tmobile ones.
Being ebi1 makes it so that not everything is compatible, an example of this is the cyanogen rom, it is not compatible with out a special kernel for our phones.
Once again, are the metamorphosis themes compatible with our ebi1 phones?
I am in the exact same boat lol my provider is fido and I use the latest cyanogen on my rooted ebi1 rogers dream I jus thought that this was a funny coincidence oh and obviously I'm in canada ps . I reall would like it if brian the god who makes our cyanogen port files, ported the 10mb ram hack
Themes are all good. I've used the ones from the cm updater with no issues. I also tried some meteamorphs a while ago with no issues. I think there is an issue with meteamorph on the latest cyanogen thoe. not 100% sure
To the first poster, yeah that would be great because we can't get dwangs fast rom on ebi1. Do you know if anyone has asked him to port it?

Where can I get cm updater from? I didn't find it on the market. And am I correct in thinking that the cm updater does more than just update cyanogen roms?
EDIT ive found it and see that it can update the cm aswell as use themes. I still need an answer to my post after this one.
I am wondering if it is safe to use cm updater to update our phones because we require the special kernal to use cm. Do we need to apply a kernal everytime, does it do it for us, or do we do it ourselves. (This is regarding updating the cm itself not the theme)
Hey guys, so I am still waiting for a response regarding my above post but in addition I would like to say that I now have a theme using cm updater. I downloased the first one in the recommened list. I was wondering what the difference between advance and regular launcher. There where two options for this theme one with regular other with advanced. I chose regular because I don't know what a lanucher is.
i have heard that people have asked him but he hasnet responded with a definitive answer

You just need to add the bcrook Kernel as a theme. Follow the directions in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592377
To Update:
1. Themes > Menu > Check Now
2. Select the newest bc-ebi1 file from the theme section
3. Click on it and download it, choose Apply Later when finished.
4. Download the newest Cyanogen ROM from the ROM section. Choose Apply Now.
This will reboot to recovery and flash the newest cyanogenmod. Then apply the previously downloaded port file.
Enjoy!
Thanks for the link andanswer, that will come in handy.
Another question I have is what's the difference between advanced and regular launcher?
You can look at the thread for advanced laucher and see the differences. Folders, change the number of home screens and more.
hmm i have a rogers dream and ive never had problems with themes, cm updater or anything. also ive never had to install any "special" kernel for any rom ive put on my phone.
im pretty sure i used the "rogers one touch root" guide in the dev forum when i originally rooted my phone.
is there a difference between the old and new rogers dreams? or are all this ebi1??
I use the enoch theme and it works great and looks even better. I think that most roms don't touch the kernel so they should be fine.

There is a difference but it isn't with the radio (ebi1 vs ebi0) its with the spl. It just requires the one click root to get around. You must have used haykuro's method to root which switches your radio to EBI0 making it compatible with any rom for the G1.

ahh makes sense, i used haykuro's method. thanks for the clarification.
hey i am using the binary something theme. When on the old Cyanogen rom it had the same theme but with the lockscreen, when updating to the latest CM rom i dont see the lock screen version anymore. (i am using CM updater)
Ok so I am now using the enoch theme, I like the blue accent and the transparent design to show more background. One thing that I miss is the lock screen, CM updater doesn't show any option for installing a enoch lockscreen. Is there any way to get a lockscreen? Also can I use any lockscreen even if it is not enoch? (Cm updater shows no lockscreens anyway)
Does the latest CM rom 12.2 not support any lockscreens yet? Or do I just need to add more sorces for themes in cm updater? If so could someone guide me into doing that.
could someone please answer as to can I use any lockscreen? and how can i get this done with cm updater?
Hello,
I'm running the latest stable version of cyanogen 5.0.7, which is the last, i think.
And i'm having trouble with my APN settings. I want to perform a clean wipe and revert to a google ROM to see if I can get the APN settings to work on my G1 with that. Is this possible without actually breaking the phone?
I don't think it'd be downgrading as the latest Google ROM is 2.2 and 5.0.7 comes up as 2.1 on my phone.
If it's safe, could someone tell me how?
from what i understand u basically wanna go back stock so if thats then heres a link
although its been a min since i did it this way but hope this helps
thanks for the reply.
according to this page, G1 only supports up to Android 1.6 in its official form?

You know, there might have been an actual REASON why you installed a cyanogen rom.... and it was probably because of the fact that HTC DREAM only has official images to 1.6!
Unless you were just installing cyanogen rom to make life difficult....?
how could installing cyanogenmod make life difficult when it has so many cool features. I can't even remember if android was even past a 1.6 release when i started using cyanogen. what was the point of your reply?
either way, i can't remember the reason why i installed cyanogen. could have just been purely for the sake of modding.
Is the latest cyanogen mod update only available through rim manager, I've searched but can only fine the rc3 post on here.
Had some problems with it so I wondered if any one new if it was official?
i couldnt find cm6 final on here either just do the flash from rom manager its super easy
It's on the cyanogenmod website.

Sweet, thanks for the links. I was having a few issues but it could be because of a bunch of reasons. Seems fine this time round. I don't mind after what I've put upwith on symbian for years.
Wipe flash restore is so easy with android. And no pc required!

Heres a link to the CM6 nightly buildbot.
Hi all,
Does installing Cyanogen Nightlies erase the whole phone? How about when a new RC comes out?
Also, the Cyanogen Nightlies thread is 133 pages long. Is there any quicker way to find the latest nightly?
Thanks guys!
I'm not sure what you mean by "erasing the whole phone." If coming from a not-cyanogen rom, you probably should wipe everything. If you already have cyanogen 6 installed, all you do is flash a nightly and you keep all of your stuff. Also, you don't need to look through all the posts on the thread, just click on the link in the first post for a list of all the nightly builds.
Thank you Thecheatiscool!
Also, when 2.3 is released, does upgrading to that overwrite "my stuff"?
It will if you install the Google release. If you wait for Cyanogen to release a 2.3 then who knows. Probably still need to wipe depending on how much different 2.3 is from 2.2.

Pardon my noobiness... I am trying to find where to download the latest CWM version for a heroc and more importantly a matrix showing the latest stable releases by phone model. I have downloaded the latest CM6/CM7 and gapps builds and they have nice matrices showing which latest version is recommended for each phone, but nothing for CWM.
I have ROM Manager installed to the phone, and 2.5.0.7 is shown as my current recovery. When I look at the "older/experimental" list, I see 2.5.1.1, 2.5.1.3, 2.5.1.4 are available for flashing. Not sure if these are experimental or if ROM Mgr just doesn't upgrade to newer version of CWM automatically.
Also, I have found the instructions for getting v3.0.0.5 (or newer) installed by fooling ROM Mgr to think it's one of the above "other" versions. I have seen posts that CM7 requires version CWM v3.x and plenty of people running v3.0.0.5 or newer on their cdma Hero's but the xda "official" instructions for rooting/etc show 2.5.0.7 as the latest release (instructions were written some time ago, not sure if the ver# for CWM is up to date).
what am I missing? or am I just being too careful?
CM7 doesn't require CWM 3.0.x, actually.
good to know. Any clarification on CWM versions and compatibility with Hero or any benefit of using a particular one?
I'm using 3.0.2.4, found here

the 2.xxx versions of cwm will flash both amend script (old) and edify script (new). The 3.xxx versions are the newest and therefore "best", but they only flash edify, so depending on what script your zips have, some may not flash. Try them all out, pick your favorite, like ROMs, also, here's some kindof related info in another recovery thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12467895&postcount=4
il Duce, thanks for the explanation - provided the clarification I was looking for. I'm just a casual modder because I hated HTC Sense (the slowness mostly) and needed a phone that was usable, so until I buy my big boy hacker pants, I'll stick with CWM 2.5.x.x since it will flash CM7 and still work with the older scripts.
From what I've been reading, the 2.x.x.x versions are "official" and all 3.x.x.x versions are unoffical custom-made versions. That's why the app doesn't come with the orange colored 3.x versions.

This. The 3.x versions I've posted are unofficial and built from the latest CyanogenMod source. The latest official release from Koush is 2.5.0.7.
