Hi,
I have a wallaby variant called a Falcon and its taken considerably damage to its antenna connections and i can no longer make it work as a cellphone..
But it does have a much clearer screen than my blue angel and I am wondering if anyone knows whether I can swap it into my Blue angel?
ideas?
you should first make sure, that the screen size, resolution and colour depth are identical, the BA screen is 3.5", 320*240, 65536 colours.
then you should check the connectors, best done before opening the device by consulting the service manuals:
-=BlueAngel=-
-=Wallaby=-
i haven't had a look into it, since i am on a terribly slow remote desktop connection, but i guess, that if the connectors for the screen AND the digitizer are identical, it might work, without any guarantees.
EDIT: maybe you should also consult a rom chef for the BA and the wallaby, whether there are display/digitizer drivers integrated in their roms, because you might need to install wallby drivers on the BA as well.
Taking a quick look at the service manual for the Wallaby (Thanks Tony), I would say no.
The cable alone in the Wallaby looks to be several times wider than the one in the angel, not to mention the orientation of said cable is different (Wallaby is horizontal, Angel is vertical).

I've got my Wizard G4 a few days ago, and ever since, when it's not been used for a while, and is freshly turned on (mainly when there is a lot of black/white contrast on the screen, such as text etc), it would at first display the correct text, then 'fade' to the brightly colored patterns show in the thumbnails below. Interestingly this ONLY happens when the keyboard is 'in', this has never happened when its drawn out. I at first thought this was a software problem, however after flashing first the Slim Edition v2.2 ROM, and the latest TNT ROM the situation didn't improve.
Consequently, I am inclined to think this is a hardware issue, perhaps some bad contacts or something? I have tried to research this but have found nothing much apart from the Wizard Service Manual.
Has anyone encountered, or better still, solved this problem? I'll have a go at repairing the contacts, but would still like your experiences/advice as well.
Thanks in advance!
Nice pictures. You have problems with the cable connecting the screen and the main board. We should buy a new and changing.
Thanks, I'll have a look first, hopefully its just loose, cos similar ones look pretty expensive on eBay... Any chance you could suggest a source?
Thanks
HTC 8125 FLEX CABLE 8125/Cingular 8125
Roughly £15 from eBay... Cheers! I'll report any progress as I make it... Thanks again!
what do we need:
*a htc multi adapter( in some cases we dont met them in the boxes as we buy the phone)
*a AV Cable( like this one )
*and the program
Simply plug your AV( cable with red, yellow and white plug like what you use for an camera ) cable into the 3.5mm port on the multi-adapter, plug the adapter in the phone, and start the program
Immediately after it is started, the Video Out format selection will pop-up. Select the proper format for your display/TV, and it should immediately show up on the big screen in beautiful color with perfect sound.
When you disconnect the multi-adapter, the program wil shutdown
If u see that u dont have video or sound, then try to put yellow or red one in the white one. like yellow in red, red in white, and white in yellow. try to mix the colours and u will see that it will work.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Apparently, not all 3.5 to RCA AV cable have the same pin-out . You must use compatible AV cables or hope that you get lucky with whatever you've got lying around.

Big thnx for ''datawrhsdoc''
which phones have you tested this on?
ive tested this on rapheal and it works 100% but it must works on htc which support tv out and the multi adapter.
Doesn't work with the cable I have :/
Which cable (if you know) are you using?

I had to swap the red and yellow plug and it worked with my cable.
Interesting that you mentioned a tv out option w/o the cable. There have been several times I've connected my phone to the audio jack using the dongle and for some reason the tv out option screen would pop up. I'll try it as soon as I get home and will report.
What does the "htc multi adapter" look like (way too many different pics on Google ) and how much does it cost ?

There was something wrong with the custom ROM I had.
After a soft reset, all works well (swapped red and yellow)!
Thanks a bunch!

Thankyou.
Thankyou. I wonder if this cab will get rid of the blue flicker when using Coreplayer (QTV video setting) ?
Hmm.. I'll check this out. Thanks!
Yes!! it works!! I don't have any sound, youtube doesn't play video, and my own videos play upside down. It's a start!!!
edit: okay, soft reset fixed it...but I still have that upside down issue...and coreplayer (allows me to play left handed) has blue flicker...
will try mine, it and apple ipod video compatible "Logic3" cable, hope it works.
EDIT:
it worked just fine but the quality isn't much good as i expected, kinda pixeled (running into a full hd lcd)

M.Kaya = Leach
Mr. Leach (aka., m.kaya),
I have never bothered to flame anyone on XDA, so you are the well-deserved first. Congratulations!
Your very first post on XDA managed to plagiarize my post describing my invention/discovery of a very useful hack that I simultaneously shared with both the XDA and PPCGeeks communites on 2/26/09.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486916
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=59236
Changing several words here and there -without- giving creds is not a service to the community. It is a service to your own narcissistic useless self.
Unlike you, I posted the hack not to puff myself up, but to give back to community that I owe many many thanks over the years, having started ages ago with a Siemens SX-56 (Wallaby). This was a hack that I discovered by taking the time to mess around with random registry settings in my device in the hope I could find a way to avoid taking wire clippers to my multi-adapter. I shared it with the community merely because I figured nobody would want to alter their hardware when a simple registry mod will do. Another friendly member on PPCGeeks, techfury90, happily turned the registry hack into the toggle program that you posted as if you created it.
While I enjoy the thanks of others, I didn't post the hack to get their thanks or make myself appear to be something that I am not. I merely hacked my registry and got lucky. I shared my luck with the many kind folks on XDA and PPCGeeks.
Heck, the least you could have done is told everyone that iPod AV cables have the correct pin-out and linked them to a $3.64 product shipped (http://www.amazon.com/Macally-Audio-Video-Cable-classic/dp/B000GGQ2ZU) that is guaranteed to work, but, no, you modified the post in a way that they would -never- know that.
I hope you enjoy the undeserved thanks of others. Sleep well.

No, it won't get rid of the blue flicker when using QTV with Coreplayer. All it does is trick your device into thinking a standard iPod AV cable is a pricey HTC video out cable.
While our devices have hardware QTV support, CoreCodec did not license the drivers and instead built their own which only partially uses the hardware QTV. The result is blue flicker, higher power utilization, and a considerably slower framerate than what could have been realized.
You can get rid of the flicker from Coreplayer by changing video output in Coreplayer to DirectDraw. Maybe one day, CoreCodec will license the hardware QTV drivers from Qualcomm. Alternatively, you can use WMP which I understand uses the hardware QTV properly (I think).
Also, if your image is flipped, you need to select Menu/Options/Orientation/Left-Handed.

gotta tell you.....this little cab is [email protected]! the overscan is a bit annoying, but it's great for watching movies when you don't want to have to burn them to DVD. Cudos my friend! I simply used the ipod A/V cable for the ipod video, and it worked like a charm. No switching wire colors, etc. Just worked! Thanks again for cabbing the fle and making this TP even better!

Good job bro!
Works great! Thanks 'doc
Here's my story:
I recently bought this phone for only $125 - not bad deal if you ask me. I knew from the beginning that the screen was a little mess up, even the guy I bought it from knew that. You would need a flash light in order to see what was on the screen. From any other point of view, it's just totally dark/black. So the guy was gracious enough to include a new lcd screen which he ordered to replace the old one. So I decided to undertake the task of putting it in myself. Once that was all said and done, I powered the tilt up and it was doing the exact same thing before I put the new lcd screen in, which was not lighting up the screen and it was still very dark to see anything.
With a flashlight, you can see that it's still working and the touchscreen works fine too. I think another person posted a thread with the same problem, but no one really replied back to him. Has anyone come across this problem before? Some have said that it's the flex cable that connects to the front d-pad and lcd screen itself is the cause for the back light issue. Any suggestions out there?
If I were you I'd try to figure out the pinouts for the LCD panel. Try to see if the Kaiser is outputting the necessary voltage for the backlight. Also try the opposite and apply voltage to the LCD to test the backlight.
Unless it is 2 back LCDs, I'm assuming there is a fault somewhere internal and not turning on the backlight.
I've never taken my tilt apart, but this is where I would start.
I wouldn't know where to begin to troubleshoot a device like this. Lol! It's fairly easy to take apart - there's actually a video on youtube that takes you step-by-step. I guess this isn't as common as some problems are, but I don't want to spend money having someone else fix something that could be so minute. And prices for some of the replacement parts are almost as expensive as what I bought the phone for.
When I took my tilt apart, physically, everything looked good from what my eyes can see. A little cleaning here and there, nothing major. The guy who had it before me flashed the rom to try and make it look like it had touchflo on it so I reflashed it back to the original rom software (or at least, whatever was on the HTC website). I tried doing hard resets, soft resets, rom flashing and everything, still no luck.
Hi . I'm going to replace my vox for TyTn 2 (!) . I need to know , what I need to check if i want to avoid sending phone to services (I think Construction , some problems like bad joystick ... ) ?
i purchased my kaiser brand new in may 2008...so you will probably get better advice from those that have gotten refurbished or second hand units.
anyway, heres a list of items you might want to check (based on my own observations as well as based on the readings/reports of various issues i've read about here on the forum):
1. hardware keys should work 100%. some users buying off ebay, for example, report that the phone works and the FRONT buttons work but the slide out keyboard is shot. just an example, it could be the other way around. but the point is to check and make sure each and every button works.
2. usb connector should work 100%. best way to check is to see if the phone can establish an activesync connection (with a known working cable) and if the orange charging LED lights up. next, hook up a wired headset (that is known to work correctly) to see if the pins for the audio signals are functioning on the usb connector. long press the button on the wired headset to see if the device starts to dial the last number dialed.
3. look out for "dead pixels". there should be NONE. because the kaiser has a relatively low resolution screen with less pixel density, i don't think it is acceptable for there to be ANY dead pixel at all because even one can become an eye sore. a quick way to check is to bring up an all-black screen and see if all the pixels are black. next, bring up an all-white screen and see if all pixels have turned white. also remember that sometimes dead pixels come and go. i've had TWO dead pixels during my ownership of the kaiser. one went away as soon as i flicked the device from the side and it never came back. another one lasted for a week and had me quite worried because it happened after my warranty period was over. i tried "dead pixel 'sweepers'" and maybe they helped because that particular dead pixel also eventually went away after a week and never reappeared.
4. scratches on the camera lens. note that the kaiser has a plastic lens "cover" on the back cover of the device. this part is known to get easily scratched and i don't think it is reasonable to be anal about this part. HOWEVER, if you take the back cover OFF, then the actual camera lens underneath the back cover should be spotless. check BOTH cameras to see if they work and can capture decent images (test the main camera with the back cover OFF to get better results).
5. the slide mechanism should be relatively "solid". look for distortions on the image displayed on the screen as you slide. ensure that the sim remains detectable when the keyboard is slid out. ensure that the front buttons work when the keyboard is slid out. ensure that the microsd card slot continues to work when the keyboard is slid out. all of the above mentioned items are connected to the main motherboard via "ribbon cables" (hidden underneath the sliding mechanism) and sliding out the keyboard can cause faulty ribbon cables to act up. look out for that!
6. make sure the status/notification LEDs work. read the WIKI/manual for information about the normal/expected behavior of the LEDs.
7. the earpiece should work. the loudspeaker should work. the microphone should work.
8. the touch screen should work! try out bubblebreaker so that you can check the responsiveness of the screen across its entire surface. recalibrate the screen if you have to. remember, the kaiser's touch screen can occasionally be a bit fussy if a screen protector is present.
9. look for obvious scratches/damage to the screen and body. try to see if the damage really matters to you (as an eyesore) or to the device (can it affect the device's normal functioning?).
10. check the water exposure stickers under the battery to make sure they have not turned a pinkish color. if they are pink, there is a chance that the device was exposed to some amount (or a lot of) water in the past. while you're at it, check the battery contacts for corrosion (might cause power issues later) and check the battery compartment for any signs that a previous battery may have leaked (extremely unlikely). who knows, maybe the owner had it properly serviced after the water exposure so no harm in asking. if properly serviced at the right time after water exposure, there have been many success stories here on the forum of the device continuing its normal functioning.
ummm thats about it from my side, hope this helps!
TYVM ... i have this phone ... I'm really exited . I'm going to do Hard SPL tomorrow ... I want some good rom ... so what is fast ... and have that D3D driver ??
congratulations!
i answered your original question because it was a bit of a unique question.
but your second question about "which ROM is good and fast" cannot be answered by anyone except for YOURSELF. go ahead and explore the Kaiser ROM Development Section. read about some of the ROMs that seem to interest you. try out a few of them and see what you like and dislike. good luck!
OK ... can you tell me ... what does thet D3D driver ??? and why 101 MB ram and D3D not working together ???
And one more thing ... i try ANYTHING but i cannot set up android and run it .... And also I don't know how to make that default.txt
And can you explain me this ??? : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qL8uq4FtduY

How about you do some searching and explain it yourself or post in threads related to your topic.
ASCIIker isn't your personal guide through this site.
Hey everybody!
I just went through my electronics-box and found an old 15.4" LCD screen that I ripped from a broken Laptop a couple of years ago. Also a couple of days ago, there was a post on engadget about some chinese company, that sells the electronics for the type of LCD screen that I have. That made me thinking what to do with it:
Since I think the Nook is a perfect device for traveling around, I don't like it just to lie around at home. So my thought was, if it would be possible, or even has already been done, to fit the screen with some touch capability and build some kind of docking station for the Nook:
I come home, put it in the dock and the bigger screen takes all the functionality of the Nook screen (for displaying some media for example). Also of course it should charge the battery.
When I leave the House, I just take the Nook out of the Dock and have the normal Nook behaviour.
This is just a brief idea and I have not put any thoughts about the feasibility of such a project into it. What do you think about it?
That is a pretty cool idea! I would love to see you go through with it. I have a feeling that the cable might be an issue.... Is it even possible to transfer images through a microUSB plug? That would be the only thing that I see that might end up as an issue. My question would be, would it require additional software to make the image work appropriately with the monitor?
External display
I am searching for this functionality for a very long time. This is the first time I have seen a post related to that.
I would be happy atleast connecting nook to a dell monitor.
It may be possible using the display link drivers from the link attached . This is some thing I have been trying to make happen since i bought a car with out gps , I would love to mount a touch screen in the car then connect my android devices to it so i have all the same functions on a larger more driver friendly screen . http://libdlo.freedesktop.org/wiki/
Looks like it's been done, just about.
http://hackaday.com/2011/10/10/how-to-build-a-23-android-tablet/
You just need to expose the connections and add a switch of sorts...
very intriguing I might have to try this.
thank you for posting this
I think...I MAY try this at some point.
its just too cool not to. Im not sure what I would use it for though
