Ram question - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Would it be possible to do the opposite of the ram hack and speed up 3d games by mapping ram to be used by the gpu? or whatever.

Anyone know?

Bump again.

Anyone? I would like to know.

G1 10mb hack and 3d Games

I was wandering how exectly how would the 10 mb hack will effect gaming expirience on my g1?
with all the new 3d games coming out to android, how will it effect them?
is there a way to cencel the hack after applying it?
any other negetive effect from the hack?
thanks.

3d games really aren't too great on the g1, a droid or n1 would be much better with those, personally I don't really need 3d games, but I guess som people like giant pixels and huge textures

There is a lot of information on this subject. To sum it up, if your into playing a lot of 3d games, I wouldn't recommend using the hack. Your essentially getting the extra 10mb from the phones part of the GPU that is used for 3d gaming. If you do the hack, you will notice a big difference in speed and appearance when running 3d games, which is why your better off not using it.
It doesn't effect emulator agmes, as my nes, snes and genesis emulators run fine, and I do use the hack. ( I cant comment on the other emulators, as these are the only 3 that I can keep running at full speed).
Hope that helps a bit

any way to cancel the hack after applaying it?

overclock GPU !

It is possible ????
look on this forum !
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895825
it is tegra device !
GPU now overclocked to 425000
Hmm, seems interesting ...looking forward

+1 that would be nice
"Yesterday" we have single-core phones, now we have dual cores with lot of power and we talk about OC?
I know what to touch for overclocking the GPU in Tegra...but I think it's a bit useless and battery wasting...
Why would you want to OC your GPU? Are there ANY games out there that lag?
However another intersting thing to do would be to lower the memory the GPU reserves e.g. only 64mb instead of 128. That way you could have more free RAM for the OS.
as if in a PC
IMO OCing gpu will not give any significant change though
The xoom is 333mhz GPU ,LG 2X is 300mhz, may be it‘d up to 333mhz to impact the 3D game performance .

Bwah, I'm the type of guy that would do it for the benchmarks alone xD

same here
yeah i wanna see also gpu benchmarks on 425 mhz xD . power? i dont care really
and it could be very nice if will be possible set a VIDEO ram for GPU.
i would like to see a difference between 128mb vs 64mb
is it possible to set the video ram when it need? so no need reserve the fix ram for video

video ram is hardware related. you cant change this
get a galaxy II if you want benchmarks, that thing beats the crap out of everything in benchmarks.
why ? sgs2 is not faster....than tegra
I prefer oc gpu than cpu )

Its not hardware related. Its a boot paramater, so yes you can change it. Thought i dont know how.
For certain tasks GPU speed would probably be preferable over CPU. Also, is there any voltage control for the GPU? Slight OC + UV or just UV would be pro, combined with the same on the CPU.

LOL face the facts. according to the gpu benchmarks it is. glbenchmark is the most rigorous gpu benchmark available to smartphones. just see for yourself.

This is a stupid request anyway, tegra, etc all can handle anything thats available for these phones. someone should move this to general, there is no development in this thread

Possible best app ever for gamers

Hey guys
I'm sure you all know that the milestone and droid are outdated. The processor is too slow and there isn't enough ram. Thankfully the processor is easily overclocked without increasing the voltage by that much but the ram is an issue. I know that on the droid you can use swap but that is no where near as fast as ram.
So basically I was hoping for an app that enables a "gaming mode". This could move the android system onto the swap space (becomes very laggy) leaving 256mb of ram which is surplus for all games.
I know swap can't be done on the milestone yet. But do you guys think its possible and has it been done before?

[Q] Can I increase the physical RAM size?

Dear all,
I am curious if I can purchase a larger RAM module and replace the one in my SGS resulting in more RAM space available to applications?
My SGS is running fast but I have a lot of applications installed which utilize RAM in background. As everyone know although SGS claim to have 512MB memory, the actual memory available for user application is around 3xx MB only. I am woundering if upgrade of physical RAM is feasible.
Thanks!

I'd highly doubt that it would be possible. Maybe some high skilled person could make the swap (it probably wouldn't be easy to find one..), but no-one knows if it would have even theoretical chances to work. And yes SGS has 512mb of ram..but os and apps just take their part of it in any situation.

[Q] Nvidia Plugin?

I have't fooled with the tegra plugins. I'm not a gamer, but was wondering if the plugin brings any other attributes other than the games? Does it get you a higher score in quadrant? Does it improve the browser experience? I'm hoping someone has already done the research and can just tell me?
From my understanding, chainfire 3d only fixes compatibility with OpenGL apps. I suppose if an OpenGL game were optimized for a particular gpu but works with all gpus, chainfire could improve performance if you used the particular gpu plugin the game was optimized for.
I didnt think it would make a diff. I just thought id ask. Thanks for the info.
