Edoka, you can find that information in the rooting guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
Which should be found there... be very careful and make sure the radio you want to update/flash are the correct ones you need.

What rom were you on and which one are you trying to flash?
Most likely you just need a complete wipe (phone and ext partition).

still nothing i tried to install one call sensehero theme
grrrrrrr gonna do more research

Did you wipe before installing the rom?
Make sure you have "Haykuro SPL" and not the "Hard SPL"

Not sure but I think you also need to have a swap partition for anything Hero/Sense.

Did you install a ROM or just a theme? I ask because you called it "sensehero theme".

Danger SPL

i would like to install the Danger SPL i just have a few questions before i attempt this. I would like to avoid bricking my phone if possible.
I have already looked at this and see how to install it. I was just wondering how i would install it seeing as i already have my mod and have the newest Radio. I am currently running CyanMOD 4.0.4 with the Hard SPL. Would i just simply put the Danger SPL's zip. on my root SD and recovery boot and run the zip?
I have checked and I do have the PVT that is mentioned in the thread listed above.
I want to make sure I have everything clear 100% before i attempt this. I guess it is called Danger SPL for a reason.

Looks like your setup for the installation of it. Just place the SPL Update.zip onto the root of the sd card and install like you would a rom. But there is a catch. After the installing is complete, YOU HAVE TO manually reboot it by pressing Home+Power or whichever one reboots it, you can't use the trackball to select reboot. Once you do that it should go about its way on installing it.
Yes you are right. Just might want to put another rom you want on your sd card to to flash right away after flashing the spl because when you flash the new spl it will overwrite your existing rom causing you to be stuck at the g1 screen. Thats when you here all the idiots say I bricked my phone but fixed it.
Also, be careful to be sure that your /sdcard is mounted when you go to do that update. Sometimes when you flash Haykuro's SPL, it won't mount the sdcard properly, without being instructed to do so. ("mount /sdcard" when you drop into the terminal is all it takes). Dunno what caused that... but because of it, it wasn't reading the update.zip file I had.
Since you are using cm recovery 1.4, you can not use apply any zip for the spl, you must name it update.zip and than apply it that way with the option for update.zip, odd yes, but true, I suggest putting back on a rom that you already have that works for you, boot it up and than do a nandroid backup in case of future boot loops.

By terminal i take it as the "go to console" or "ALT+X" option. If so once i am in terminal how do i leave it. Every time I go to it I have to remove my battery to get back to the recovery options.

He's trying to mount /sdcard. Rebooting would undo that. If you just type recovery it will take you the recovery screen no reboot
um of course i don't try the obvious solution lol. thanks i will try to install the Danger SLP later.

Hey folks,
i`m glad to found that thread about dangerspl...i`m loosing to many nervs because of that...
i`ve downloaded the spl file from these forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548924), renamed it to update.zip und applyed it at cm recovery 1.4.
i have the latest Radio, i`ve checked this a 1000 times...
everytime i want to install that dspl it`s extracting and installing very very fast (2-3sek), than reboot, it reboots in recovery...then i reboot the system, erverything is normal...the rom is starting...no stuck @ g1 logo...
the only effect is the missing of some internal memory mb`s...
so, what to do `??? was this file i`ve downloaded the correct DSPL??
Recovery shows "installing hboot"?!
i hope someone can understand my bad english...
forget about it !!!!
only my dumb fault.....

Totally incorrect. I've flashed this SPL several times, and using Cyan's recovery you don't have to rename it.

Try using three finger mary (talk+menu+power) to reboot and hold home to get into recovery. Flash the ROM you should have already put on your sd card beforehand since as Supreme already said, the SPL will overwrite the existing ROM...

Need help with flashing the G1 !!!!!

i rooted my G1 last night (i think i suceffuly rooted it)
and i was trying to flash the JACHEROSki-v2.1 ROM to my G1, i used the old method put the recovery.img and the JACHEROSki-v2.1 (changed to "update"),then turn off phone, turn it back on with home+power, alt+s flashing in progress, here are the messages i got when installing the rom:
Installing from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
installing update...
Deleting files...
Deleting files...
Formatting System:...
Copying files...
Then the progress bar stay still not moving forward....and after a while it goes...

(No such file or directory)
E:failure at line 80:
set_perm_recursive 0 2000 0755 0 6755 SYSTEM:xbin
Intallation aborted.
Press Home+back ro reboot
then after i reboot, the G1 logo stays on forever, i tried to reboot, and tried to flash again (at least 4 times), but same results. how can i fix this ? did i delete my own rom while flashing the new rom ? thats why i have no roms in my phone, so it wont load up? what can i do now ? i mean, i cant do anything without turning on the phone
Hero roms require the DangerSPL noted in the first post of the rom you are trying to install. I don't recommend flashing a hero rom right after rooting your phone. Considering you still need to learn about apps2sd and most important swap partitions. Download cyan 4.0.4 and start with that before you try a hero rom.
Hold home+pwr to boot into recovery to flash roms.
Also you don't need to put the recovery.img on your sd anymore, once you have flashed recovery you dont need to do it again cuz it stays on your phones internal memory. When flashing any rom you just put the .zip on your sd and rename it to update, thats it.
so you mean cyan rom is best for me right ? and how am i gonna do that when i cant boot my phone ? i dont have a card reader here so a little frustrating tho
and can you give me a link for that rom ? too many roms out there dont know which one is best for my G1, i have a 1G memory card only btw
before we go any further. Did you install cyan's recovery 1.4?
also turn the phone off, hold the camera button and power button. Give us the info shown on the screen.
i dont have cyan revovery 1.4 i only have the recovery.img
and what does it say when you hold camera and power to turn the phone on?
my friend just brought me his card reader and i put the JFv1.51_CRB43-ADP update to the sd, and flash it, now my phone works, with 1.5 firmware....
a question...if i want to install the cyan rom, i just do the same with the updates right ? put it in sd, rename to update, turn off phone, home+power, then install right ?
Seems like you got this one fingerlickin. See we can be helpful.

Correct, but if you install the new recovery you can flash any .zip without renaming. Also if you get stuck in the future and don't access to a card reader you can mount your card in adb and do everything that way.
sorry fingerlickin had to jump in.

adb will get your ass out of trouble when your phone acts up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519523
There are some good guides to use adb in there. But I ain't tryna get you confused so early, maybe that should be one of the next things you should learn. I'll stop there so you don't get confused yet, just something to learn for the future.
And did you have your card partitioned before flashing the rom? I'm being lazy and not looking at your past posts right now.
i havent yet partitioned my sdcard...i came to this forum last night, spent hours to read and learn about rooting, updating, and maybe partition....
so you think my jf update can get the app install to sdcard ? or do i have to use other roms ?

If I were you I would honestly switch from jf to a different rom. JF is to boring and outdated, plus he ain't working on roms no more so you won't have any support. I would go to one of cyanogens roms. Just partition your sd card then flash a new rom. There are multiple ways to partition your card, I use ubuntu (tut in sig) but there are other ways to do it thru the phone.
ok....i will try to find a good rom for my phone...thanks for the help there...really appreciate it
NP supreme, I had to step away from my desk for a bit but I'm back now.
cyan's recovery 1.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3915123
cyan's stable ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537204
Do the recovery first. when you get this recovery installed you don't have to rename zip files to update.zip anymore. Then flash the ROM, you will not regret using cyan's ROMs.
After this is done and everything is running normal you can do some research on partitioning the sdcard. This isn't required so don't do this until everything else is normal.
which one is better ? staple rom or 1.4 ?

1.4 is the recovery

So do both. Just do recovery first. It's not necessary to do it first but ehh

Help with Cyanogen ROM

Not trying to be dumb but i been using JF 1.5 for like 6 month (completely forgot about xda and android stuff for about 4 month since i busy with school).
So now i got JF 1.5 and i want the new Cyanogen V 4.2.3.1 since i did read alot and seem like the best one for now.
And so i did try to install......for about 4 HOURS.
I tried :
- JF 1.5 -> Cyanogen V 4.2.3.1 = Stuck at the boot screen
- JF 1.5 -> cm-recovery-1.4.img -> signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip -> Cyanogen V 4.2.3.1 = After boot screen (when it suppose to come on the welcome screen) it just turn blank...the screen is one but completely blank.....
- I WIPE again -> HTC ADP 1.6 DRC83 -> Cyanogen V 4.2.3.1 = Samething, blank page.
So what did i do wrong? I did do the install of the recovery Img 1.4 and the ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip.
I did wipe everytime i install something.
Sorry for the bothering and noob asking for help but i do need help....i tried my best and sitted here for 4 hours already
And talking about those Guide on WIKI, i tried to follow all of them and still.......only thing i didnt try is reflash, unroot, root again and do the install of new ROM
Is your SD card partitioned correctly?
You need:
FAT32
EXT 2/3/4
Linux-swap
Do you have those three partitions?
If so, did you wipe your EXT partition?

I reflash the whole phone, root then Cyanogen again with format 3 Partition of Fat32 (7000MB), ext2 (700MB) and Linux-swap (150MB) and it still doesnt work, stuck at boot screen this time.....i really really dont know what to do now, i tried everything
alright buddy, you don't need to have any ext or linux swap partitions to run cyanogenmod
just make sure you have his recovery image, 1.4, or amon ra's recovery flashed on your phone
now you might as well just flash the haykuro "death/danger" spl to repartition your phone's internal memory. flash the radio before the spl
now go into recovery and wipe data/cache,
follow cyanogen's directions on how to upgrade
flash the adp 1.6 htc recovery image file from the htc site, DO NOT REBOOT
immediately flash the latest cyanogenmod update on top of that, reboot,
it'll give you some stuff about writing the radio, just let it do it's thing
now you're done, boot up
and give it some time.
first boot takes a little bit more
enter your credentials into your phone, let it sync
then reboot again, it lets everything soup together

I just did the exactly same thing u said and it get past the Boot G1 Screen, then pas the Cyanogen Screen then it get stuck at a blank screen again, what wrong with that?
Since you're able to get to the "Cyanogen" screen -- do you have adb installed on your computer? A logcat of what's going on would be useful.
Alternatively; try flashing the "illegal" version of the newest Cyanogen ROM -- the "single flash" update. However, do it a little differently than you'd otherwise expect.
With the old JF 1.5, install Cyanogen Updater from the Market. Download any update -- doesn't matter what; you won't be flashing it.
Download the single-flash version of Cyanogen's actual ROM from the developer forum; and then dump it into the same folder that the CM Updater app dumped to. From within the contextual menu of the CM Updater app, choose "existing update" -- and then flash the single-update version.
//SOMETIMES//, flashing a ROM via the CM Updater will produce different results than flashing it "manually". I have no explanation for why this is, but I /have/ seen it happen.
Hi there,
I too am running JFV1.51 and wish to change to Cyanogen 4.2.15.1.
I have the iamage from HTC but nothing changes when I flash it and attempt to immediately flash Cyanogen over it?
Did you have any luck in resolving this issue/
Many thanks!
You guys that are having issues need to use ddms or adb shell logcat to see whats going on.
Going from Cupcake to Donut is going to change a lot in your phone and will take several minutes to complete. Most of which is in Framework. That Android boot animation that pops up is in there so thus it may seem like it's stuck at the G1 logo. Also you should consider flashing your phone to the newest radio (2.22.19.26I or 2.22.23.02).
ok this is what you really do lol no if ands or butts to this method.

E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
Hi,
Firstly, many thanks!
However, after following this comprehensive and generally straight forward guide I still can't flash the new CM!
I followed all the steps exactly, downgrading to RC7 (I'm in the UK) & re-rooting the phone.
When I reach the stage of flashing Android 1.6 Base Image, the CM ROM & the radio it states:
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
and aborts!!!
I also do not have the option of alt+a only alt+s which is apply sdcard:update.zip
Where am I going wrong? And what should I do?
Thanks,
Joe

If you don't have ALT+A available, you have a recovery loaded other than what the guide says/thinks you should have. Are you using the recovery it suggests? Be it Amon Ra, Clockwork, etc.
Hi,
I was initially running Jesus Freak cupcake 1.5. Now the phone is currently at RC7 and rooted using telnet after starting the whole process again.
I am currently following the guide on the cyanogenmod wiki. I am using the recovery image suggested: CM recovery 1.4 img.
However, when I get to the stage for Flash Android1.6 & CyanogenMod latest I get stuck and states E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip.
All other guides seem to be specific to the US, for example androidhustler. I don't where to go next!
Please help!

Stuck on g1 logo

I followed the unlockr guide and did everything and now I am stuck on the g1 screen. I checked my radio and spl are the right number. I wiped everything then re-partitioned then re-updated it with the lastest rom and still stuck. Can anyone give me advice?
If you can get into recovery of bootloader than you aren't bricked.
I know it isn't bricked but it is still temporarily useless. I really want a custom ROM and I wish I knew why this thing was messing up.
You could always reflash using the .nbh file then go through the steps again =]
start from step 1 again
The only thing I could think of is when I updated the .spl I didn't wipe. Whenever I booted into the recovery (before using amon ra's, just the stock recovery) I didn't wipe the system before updating .spl. Whenever I wiped and tried to update .spl it would give me an error (I think the E:signature (5 files)). Anyways I will retry! Thanks for your help!

[Q] Flash error driving me crazy

OK, I guess I just have no idea what is going on. I'm running CM6.1.
About a week ago, my phone quit receiving text messages. From what I can tell, I just need to update the profile and PRL. I don't see that as an option on CM6.1. So, I try to flash over to a sense based rom.
Every rom I try gives an installation error:
Code:
Copying files...
E:Can't symlink /system/xbin/zcip
E:Failure at line 62:
symlink busybox SYSTEM:xbin/zcip
Installation aborted.
Upon more investigation, I found that a fix was to replace the SPL. I did that with Darch's ENG-SPL.
Still no worky. I can reload CM6, but that's all. Any ideas are much appreciated.
what exactly are you trying to do? flash a sense rom?
where do you get this error message? what recovery do you have?
I have the GodSpeed Recovery/Darchstar Edition. I have been running CM6.1. I am trying to flash any sense-based rom, so I can get in and update my profile and PRL. After I wipe everything, I flash the sense rom (tried 3 different roms).
As the rom is flashing, that error occurs and the rom fails to install.
Again from reading the forums, that error appears to mean that I needed a new SPL. I loaded Darch's ENG-SPL and flashed it. This did not fix the problem.
I noticed that after flashing the SPL, it calls for a reboot. When rebooted, it goes into a soft boot loop restarting at when the HTC logo appears. I can boot to recovery and then at the bottom is says:
Formatting CACHE:...
It stays that way and does not finish. This might be a problem, yet I don't know how to fix it.
So, at this point, I have access to Recovery and that is all.
Had that prob to try to reflash your recovery. If that does not work you might have to ruu and reroot. Ran into that error day before yesterday when trying to update prl/profile. Its a fastboot zip in the dev section. Hope it helps good luck.
Yea it's me Again. With the
Modified .HERO.
Are you running firerat mod?
