What famous person do you know??? - Off-topic

Looking at over 2,086,690 members, I was thinking that someone out there knows (personally, I mean, not paparazzi style) a famous person...let's see who has that special 'A' lister!!! (include non photoshopped picture if you'd like!!!)

My father knows Andrew Ranger, and my mother's boss knows a bunch of people (he's an ex-PGA player, too)

Hacked my FB.

Ok so all I can say is wow. My FaceBook was hacked. Not much happened just some Comments on BasketBall crap and they called one of my friends ugly but not much. Nobody knows my password. Last time I gave it to someone, it was a disaster. Now they hack me... and nobody knows it? Haha. I changed it. Anything else I can do?

James Cameron, Avatar and his inspiration

In all the interviews of James Cameron regarding his movie Avatar, never does he mention, nor has any interviewer asked him the question - What is his real inspiration of using the name "Avatar", Blue Skin Aliens, who also fly on Large birds???
The answer is very obvious to anybody who knows world history, but I wonder why James Cameron is shying away from it????
Yeah, there was some news about it for giving the credit and all and then it faded away just in a few days.
Well I have no idea what the origin is, that you are implying he stole the plot from. Or is it just the name? Either way please do tell.
In his interview [linked below] he kinda' touches on what inspired him to do Avatar... the under-water world. Watch & listen for more information:
http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/dpp/buzz/avatar-james-cameron
It's not a full interview, only a few minutes long, but he does kinda' hint to the question being asked in the first post.

Since you asked, I will tell you.
Avatar is a sanskrit word "Avatar or Avatāra (Devanagari अवतार, Sanskrit for "descent" [viz., from heaven to earth]) refers to a deliberate descent of a deity from heaven to earth, and is mostly translated into English as "incarnation", but more accurately as "appearance" or "manifestation" (ref: wikipedia).
He also fails to mention that the concept of Avatar, which according to Hindus, is a Human being form that the God uses to descend to Earth, mingles with the Humans and helps the Humans by freeing them of the evil that is rampant. Isn't that what the main character essentially ends up doing in his film?
What about the Blue skin color? That is also a rip-off from the Hindu Avatar of Lord Krishna, who is a blue skinned Avatar of Lord Vishnu, came to earth to help fight for the truth and liberate us from the evil. (see my avatar - That is Lord Krishna).
Now I do not want this topic to turn in to a religious topic, but I sincerely believe that where credit is due, one should not shy away from it. I love James Cameron and I love all his movies, but just not able to understand why he does not give the credit where it is due.
It is also right that people I hang out with and who are unaware of this injustice should be educated to understand what is reality.
Thanks!
Could it not just be simple?
"Avatar: a graphical image that represents a person, as on the Internet. " - Dictionary.com
So basically, his avatar (which is whats its refered to in the film) is just a representation of him in a different form other than a person.
Heck, avatars are used all over the internet, so why not in a film in a real world sense?
Well, i maybe completely wrong, but then we don't know the facts yet!
Just my 2 cents, as its never been offically explained

Well I agree with him.
I hate people who steal others ideas (not specifically aimed at James Cameron). Just watched Flash of Genius.
And please don't start a 'war of words' on this.

Am i the only person not to have seen this film? Is it worth it?
(Sorry for taking off topic, off topic....)
But I also do not like it when people don't proportion credit to where it should go, I bet he would have been more then happy to proportion blame?

OK, thanks.
I understand what you are saying, but I think that you're thinking about it too much.
There are no doubt plenty of science fiction books which are many years old which have a similar theme of a person control a remote entity (be it mechanical or biological) so I don't think that he needs to give credit to any other stories.
When I initially heard of Avatar, I immediately thought of Joe Haldeman's Forever War and Forever Peace books.
Off the top of my head, maybe he should give Charlie Kauffman a credit also, for the idea of possessing another body in Being John Malcovich.
Then another credit to the first scientists / sci-fi writers who first conceptualised genetic engineering and cloning.
JRR Tolkien for people riding giant eagles.
The smirfs for blue people.
Any number of pre industrial peoples for the use of bows and arrows...
Where do you stop?!
Also you mentioned world history?
Avatar is nothing more than a rip off of "Fern Gully - The Last Rain Forrest"....
@ the guy whos never seen it........ Dont bother, its 2.5 hours of your life you'll never get back........

Probably so. I was excited to listen to James Cameron's interview and after 1 hour I was like dude....how come he mentions every freaking movie and the Vietnam war and the American-Indian(Red Indian) injustice and what-not as part of the plot. But he does not mention the meaning of the word Avatar. Why????

Agreed. But see this formula
Avatar + Blue Skin + Savior = Hindu Mythology of Lord krishna
Avatar is a Sanskrit word (Sanskrit is the original @3500 years old language of the Hindus), Some insights about Sanskrit here
You speak of cloning. That was also part of the Hindu Mahabharata Epic. Actually that book contains Artificial insemination, Cloning (the queen has 100 sons by breaking up the 1 egg she has), Flying machines (Vimana), Missiles, and last but not the least the Atomic Bomb (called Brahmastra..more here). This book is the mother-lode of all Sci-fi authors.

I didn't see it until it came out on DVD, and it is indeed a great film, but not all its hyped up to me imo.
may continue to give it a miss then, unless I wind up with a free copy, and a blue ray player...
Thanks for the opinions

Maybe he doesn't give the credit you expect for a very simple reason: That he was unaware if the etymology of the word avatar.
We don't say 'gay' when we mean 'happy', there are many more words which have changed use over time. If all writers had to give credits for words 3500 years old...
He had also made more than one film where the simple title refers to a character(s), [the] terminator; aliens; abyss; titanic.
He has simply chosen a punchy title easily remembered by the public.
As someone one said, ' there are no original stories left, it's how you tell them '
Being blue is irrelevant to the story, there are several avatars in the film, he hardly saves all his friends, and most (all?) religions have a savoir who does god's will.

Oh I wish he did not know the meaning.
Know James Cameron and his work, he very certainly knows the meaning.
He researches his work very well. There is no denying that.
Avatar is hardly an English word. The word is 3500 years old and still in use today. It is not as as if it is a forgotten word of a forgotten language.
James' Avatar hardly saves all his friends...well that is exactly how the Avatar in Hindu mythology works. He does not save everybody, at least not as a mission.....but certainly makes sure that the evil is taken care (viz crushed, finished, killed...), and in turn saves the rest of the humankind.
See, one more similarity. Thanks for bringing it up.

I don't see it. how can he research science fiction?!!
this is coincidence, nothing more. and an example of religious believers retrofitting their theology to what they want or think fits it (groundhog day is another example, where on the dvd the director tells how many believers claimed it as an example of their faiths). no matter what I, or anyone says, you will use it as further proof.
Also, why would he intentionally lie about it? it surves no purpose.

#1. If he really did not know the meaning of Avatar, then he has lost me as his audience. But that is not the case. He does know the meaning. In his story Jake embodies the Blue Avatar body and gains entry to the world of Na' vi. The same exact way the Hindu God Vishnu gains entry to the Human world in a Human Body of Krishna. I would not have had such an issue if James Cameron would have called it say "Spirit Within" or some such name. No. He had to use the word Avatar. That confirms that he knows the word and he understand it's etymology.

rant blogging

It seems everytime I get worked up about something (today it happens to be fan boys... Pathetic bunch of children back to topic)
I feel the need to rant/vent my anger in the form of an on-line blog.
Do any of you guys think I should start? I mean, a ranting blog?
Also, dont suppose you guus know any decent blogs with such material?
I enjoy venting my anger, maybe someone else anger will help
Maybe a youtube channel or something?
