I was wandering how exectly how would the 10 mb hack will effect gaming expirience on my g1?
with all the new 3d games coming out to android, how will it effect them?
is there a way to cencel the hack after applying it?
any other negetive effect from the hack?
thanks.

3d games really aren't too great on the g1, a droid or n1 would be much better with those, personally I don't really need 3d games, but I guess som people like giant pixels and huge textures

There is a lot of information on this subject. To sum it up, if your into playing a lot of 3d games, I wouldn't recommend using the hack. Your essentially getting the extra 10mb from the phones part of the GPU that is used for 3d gaming. If you do the hack, you will notice a big difference in speed and appearance when running 3d games, which is why your better off not using it.
It doesn't effect emulator agmes, as my nes, snes and genesis emulators run fine, and I do use the hack. ( I cant comment on the other emulators, as these are the only 3 that I can keep running at full speed).
Hope that helps a bit

I plan on buying the X1 when I get my $5500 next week. My most recent phone was the Motorola Rokr E6(Linux Based) and I'm coming from the Motorola Deveploment Community. I've owned a Sony before (W810i) and loved it, so I want to get the X1. I've never used WM before So I hope modding won't be hard to learn. My questions are: Is there Emulaters for the X1 like Nitendo, Super Nitendo, Sega, GBA, N64, and PS1. I had these on my E6 and loved them. Also what about the Doom expansions and Quake expansions as well, I also played these on my E6. Aslo can we overclock the processor and use Swap partions to, Also things I loved about the E6. I looked in the thread for noob questions but 4 pages in it was just people saying how much they don't like noobs posting unneccesary posts and how much they don't like noobs basically so I stopped looking in the thread and decided to post this thread. I aplogize if these questions were posted somewhere else. Thank you for your time and I can't wait to learn WM modding.
All the Emulators are performing like crap (on the MSM720*).
Only (low action) SNES games on Morphgear, like Mario or other lame games (sorry but i hate platforms) where actually able to play on a decent framerate.
Secret of Mana for example was unplayable, unless you like humongous lag. Enabling sound only makes it worse. At the time I actually gave a crap about it, I couldnt stand playing it any longer then 10 minutes, since the qwerty keyboard is not usuable for gaming (in a comfort way, it functions fine in morphgear)
Emulation on WM6.1 is bull****, apart from the PS1 emulator that is, even though the MSM7200 is immensely underpowered for it, seeing that thing on a Snapdragon or OMAP3 chipset (youtube it) is pure awesomeness.
My S.E. M600 did GBA/SEGA Genesis emulation about 4 times as fast, and thats with an 208Mhz ARM9 chip.
Do not buy the X1 if you like playing (console) games.

Thanks for the reply, My E6 had a intel PXA270 chipset clocked at 312mhz but with overclocking I could boost it to 528mhz and 620mhz and that vastly improved gaming, Can we do this on the X1?. And what about Doom and Quake.
Welcome to the forums .
1 - Yes. Most will have some lag, but the good thing is there are many to choose from. MorphGear, PicoDrive PocketNES, PocketSNES, etc. The emulator gaming is enjoyable, but will perfect.
You have a choice of hundreds of WinMo games + Java games + PC ports like StarCraft and Diablo, so there are plenty of games.
2 - Yes, you can play them on the X1. Quake is not modified for the WVGA resolution AFAIK, but Quake 3 is playable with a slow framerate. Doom worked only once for me, but I didn't bother to fix it. I just don't find those type of games playable without a mouse...
3 - No overclocking for the X1 so far. There are a couple of programs, but they either do nothing, or start once and then freeze.
Use search, read, learn and feel free to ask questions after that .
@orelsi thanks so much for the info. Sweet we can play Starcraft and Diablo. Dam no overclocking thats a shame. hmm so quake and doom are not made for the 800x400 res, thats okay I bet there is alot of 3d java games for the X1. And yes next time I wll use the search I just really needed to know these answers, and get a chance to talk to some members.
Double post. Mods, please delete it.
I'm glad that I was able to help .
About the games. When I got the X1, I was thinking that I would play games on it all the time. Well... it didn't work out that way lol. Between the browsing, reading rss feeds and books, tweaking options, mp3s, clips, etc. I barely got time for a quick game haha.
All the games are just rusting in the corner.
Nevertheless, when you think how hot StarCraft was back in the day and that now you can carry it in your pocket..... makes you wonder about the future .
Check out this list of games. It can give you a general idea:

Have been playing Chrono Trigger on Morphgear for months and no problem for me.
And if you can stand the black bar on the side of the screen, quake not being WVGA shouldn't be a problem.
One last thing, What about Swap Partions for the X1?

Well, I might've took things out of context, but i was REALLY disappointed in the Emulation capabilities of my X1.
I remember completely finishing multiple action-oriented SEGA Genesis games on my S.E. M600i (208mhz ARM9), Sonic&Knuckles (very fast platform), Streets of Rage (beat em up), Vectorman (action, platform), and some mickeymouse game (action/platform). All of these had perfect stereo sound, and i often had a framerate above realtime.
Then you can understand, that when i got my X1 (totally excited about its WAY FASTER CPU) and booted up similar games, i was extremely confused that i had no sound (without screwing my fps even more), terrible framerate and TBH, awefull controlls. That is the reason, why i think the X1, and all similar, underpowered Windows Mobile devices, is a PITA to play emulated games on.
About the swap. We dont have it (AFAIK), and we'll never need it. My percentage of Ram usage is always under 90%, no matter how many apps i open. Mainly this is because of a (IMO retarded) 16MB/32MB Ram per app limit.
I'm looking at trying out KingKlicks Espresso ROM and I since gameboid is my gaming method of choice I don't want to mess it up. I know the RAM hack affects 3D gaming so I'm pretty sure it won't hurt anything but I don't want to flash and find out the hard way.
Well you shouldn't be afraid of flashing.. it's part of a well balanced breakfast! I also use emulators to game and have had no issues with the 10mb Hack.
Yeah you've got nothing to worry about. I use the emulators with the hack as well and have zero problems with them.
just heard about it and am rather excited. has anyone tested it on the g1? is it even playable?
yes i installed psx4droid on Cm6 on G1 i tested crash bandicoot and it works but exstremly slow, sound is also very poor
but its G1 so what do you expect.
thoughts awesome havent tested any other games yet im thinking if i disable comp cache and enable swapper on my swap partition then it may be faster...??
oh yh i have the same phone with cy6 and amon ra with death spl
in step by step detail can someone please explain the process of getting the rom to work. i tried a file from doperoms and when i putin the correct bios and clicked on the twisted metal zip it open another folder and said there was nothing in the folder. can you please guide me in this. i been so fustrated tryna figure this outfor a while now lol any help is appreciated
Don't download off dope roms unless you know how to convert their psx roms to .ISO or .BIN. I use emu paradise forums as long as the roms are in those two formats you should be fine the only problem is even with swapper or linux swap you cant get enough memory for the games. They seem to run incredably slow and it makes it unplayable unless someone can get the linux swap only to work for psx4droid so it only gives that program the memory it needs then maybe it'll play like the moto droid does with psx4droid. Anyway good luck with getting it run well.
If any progress in getting this to run smooth on G1 PM me
Sad to say it but psx4droid is just a novelty on the G1. Ive tried tekken on down to a 2d game like Suikoden. It makes no difference wat you do. Even overclocked to 700 sumtin mhz with set cpu you only can get around 5 fps.
I got it running a lil faster than 5fps I'm not sure but I keep it at default. And also I disable the sound it gives it a boost. But I will do a video on youtube tonight or tomorrow. Jus search my username androidappman and you will see the video it won't be hard to find.

ok no prooblem im up and have one more ciggerette for the night lol so ill post it but im taking back what i said on it moving faster than about 5fps but again it could have been the game cause i had chosen silent hill but i heard ace combat was pretty smooth running as well as crash bandicoot but my issue is i wanna start a dropbox like sysytem to load all the converted games for others to have easy access to. but im a do the video about basically how to convert the game into the proper file type and do so in detail. so look out for me in the morning. p.s anyone get wit me on a site like dropbox so i can sign up and start uploading away with you all.
I also have CM6, and I tried this emulator out. Extremely slow, but seems to work. Needs a lot of optimizations, as I'm sure that the G1 can certainly emulate PSX full speed. How I know this? Cause I could on my Kaiser, with FPSCE. I was able to play Megaman 8 with sound with minimal slow down. Then again, I had to use Windows Mobile for FPSCE.
Considering the difference between the G1 and Kaiser CPU's are 128 Mhz, I really doubt it couldn't be done on the G1. Would like to also mention, on the Kaiser the 3D acceleration wasn't working either. So FPSCE had no help from the GPU.
My guess is that PSX4DROID uses the FPU that you'll find in many modern Android phones, but older phones like the G1 don't have one. They could probably optimize it to run at full speed on phones like the G1, but they would rather recommend getting a newer phone. Even though most PSX emulators for the PC requires a minimum of a 200 MHz chip, and our phones have a 528 Mhz chip.
Really wish more emulator developers would develop on the Android. As it is, it seems like Android only has one person working on emulators for the Android.
can anyone let me know what games actually work on these phones i have tried
gamesloft ones but they wonr run, any first person shooters games and racing ones that work or just put in what ever games you have got working plz
All games by Hexage (Buka, Totemo, Everlands, Radiant ect) run very well (they are all 2D). SpeedX 3D also runs fairly well, not super smooth but definitely playable.

The "gpu" of magic is total crap, specially in stock android roms.
I have 3 3D games on my magic, 3D paper plane, Pool break and Speedx, they work pretty good, still they would lag a bit more on stock froyo, on sense 2.1 I get at least 5-6 fps more.
to OP, please search the forum first... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802221
To Serris.. are we to assume that the GPU changes with custom roms ;p
hey guys check this app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087427
this is an alternate driver for open gl that lets us reduce texture sixe and texture quality among others in our milestones
less texture size and texture quality equals more memory our main problem
i´ve installed it on mine and there are some graphical glitches but i was able to play games that lagged terribly before, that now run much much smoother
i don´t have the time or expertise to explore more this app if someone wants to contribute please do .
PS : i+ve installed it on miui gb 2.3 and works fine, please read the safety precautions present in the thread of the developper or make a nandroid backup before you install this !!!
Looks promising, I might try it tomorrow. A word of caution though, it says that the developer designed the app for phones with 1GHz or higher CPUs, so stock Milestone speeds may not cut it.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
Decreasing texture size will cause the cpu to be slowed down quite a lot because the milestone's processor will constantly be compressing the textures.

Technically, the CPU on our Milestone should have run by default at ~1 Ghz, but it has been underclocked for unknown reasons (battery problems, marketing strategy... idk). Anyway, with a bit of OC it shouldn't be any problem.
Sadly it doesn't work. I'm assuming the main reason why you want this is for gameloft games. But chainfire shrinks all the writing and doesn't touch the 3d textures :L so it gives a 0.5fps gain and makes all text unreadable

Actually, I forced 16bit textures (not lower res, that is excessive though effective) and set an aggressive mem freeing schema ("Gaming" SuperCharger profile), and finally got lot of games running.
I think that gameloft games like Modern Warfare 2 would run also on our stones. I can run Samurai Vengeance 2 without any problem, with these settings.
At the moment, sounds like the only way to use modern games...

Modern Warfare 2 runs pretty well on CM7 without Chainfire3D, but if you want to play Shadow Guardian HD it will help alot. It is very usefull app and I can't see much differences in graphics, but performance is visible higher (and games need less ram memory).
