Is it just me?.......[FAST][ROM] - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It narks me when I see the comments next to a ROM stating it is [FAST] and [STABLE]...
Based on what?
How much faster is it and compared to what?
How can it be classed as [STABLE] has EVERY part of it been tested and is there some magic number of parts/processes that need to work for it to be classed as stable?
Is there any way to test the actual write speed of a ROM?
If my post doesn't make sense, don't worry. I think I'm in a mood tonight

Why don't we vote for the best customed rom here?

Dear all,
I think everyone will say that your ROM is best but let the reality tell you the truth. I think we should make a vote for the best ever ROM here up to now then everyone can decide to use it and the orthes must improve their ROM again to compete.
I think after 01 months (maybe 02 or 03 months) we will vote again to choose the winner here.
What do you think about this?
P/S: I think firstly we can list down about 10 favourite ROMs here then we choose the best one? In the other hands, we can ask the voters for the reason why they decide to vote and hence we have a list brilliant features and someone will build a BEST EVER ROM based on these.
because seeing the ratio of releases from our cookers we should vote at least every 3/4 days
and after all, preferring a rom over another is only matter of personal opinion
it's so difficult, I've tried every single rom in this forum, and even with that on my side is very difficult
All are Good and All are bad.. hahaha
I think firstly we can list down about 10 favourite ROMs here then we choose the best one?
Is it a boring topic? Everyone?
Yeah, great idea, but maybe should confirm some index first, such as stable, speed, interface, multiple etc. In the meantime, you should provide some software tool to test.

Yes, i think we should do it
Wonderful thread. Indeed this is the missing link in this ROM forum.
I have found gtrab Pure Update Ram released Jun 13 very stable. No bugs actually. Will vote that on my list.
i vote for smaberg's 10.0 touch X extreme
i tried alot of roms
even some early roms for smaberg
but his last rom by far , most stable, fast
and do everything as it should be
well good idea.. but y dont u start so long and put the most important ones 4 now on the 1. post...SEX1, WCX, Kid DC's, Touch X, Touch It, Energy Rom Jacks and so ooon... mayb even as a poll? and if 1 is missin we can always add...

Q: Why are the chefs using beta software to cook roms?

Q: Why are the chefs using beta software to cook roms?
I got really frustrated by the stability issues of some roms. Some i liked, they were unstable... some were stable but i did not like them.
I've just started cooking and i realized that MANY things can go wrong. So my question is...
IS THERE any thought, any real reason, behind using BETA leaked software in a rom??
Back in the S100(Magician) days... there were fewer leakes and things were stable. You actually could choose from 3-4 stable roms.
Also the wikis are a mess... i used to visit them first and i will try to help fix them.
Before the final ver there is always a trial and error ver..
If you ask for final ver then go to SEUS
Give respect to people who have given time to make a ROM ..

Whats that I see off in the distance??? Chef's gathering and asking each other....if you listen carefully you can hear them.......ready for it.....'huh?'
Why would one want to flash ROMs off of released software? The 'fun' in all of this ....is newness....trying parts here and there and seeing what you come up with. If you wanted release software, why flash?? If, IF, stability is your primary concern....flash back to the original and don't worry about it.
But....if you're wondering what Itje will do tomorrow...or how will Agent work out that issue, or just how fast NRG can make his ROMs, or what new combination the chef's here will come up with....then come back tomorrow and feast your eyes.....cause it only gets exciting when the software is new, and the challenge is great and the ideas flow...and the questions get asked.
Hmmmm....TF3D...on an iPhone.....hahahah....nahhhhh
hey alodar1 well put
Question is why are there 40 threads like this... Especially when stable roms exist already.

Answer is: ignorance (whoops )
you'll never know the water is cold till you dip in it
It's because we all want the newest shizzle from everything. That's why we flash custom roms. I mean why should we cook with old stuff when we can get such things from SEUS? If something is already released and stable there is no need for custom roms anymore since it will be on SEUS. The thing I like about cooking is to get the newest stuff cook it in and try to fix everything as good as possible. So if you don't understand this you maybe better get an iphone or just go to SEUS and download the latest stock rom. Wondering what you preferre

A big thank you goes out to everyone that took me seriously and posted an answear. To all others, i think trying the latest and greatest does not justify the huge amount of bugs in so called stable roms.
Most roms take a full 3-5 sec to change a song... and there is no end to end experience using it.
In the meantime i found about the only version that is 100% usable in real life conditions.

"So called stable" doesn't mean bug free. But I think all cheffs do their best. It's just the choice of the user what rom he/she will use and like.
why chefs are using beta roms? <<<<if this is his question, then he should realize that there are no downloads anywhere online where you would download a final build of wm 6.5, the same way you would download windows xp, vista or 7......but my question is, is there a final wm 6.5???? wm 6.1 became final weeks ago, so where is 6.5 now???? hmmm i think you should do some research before bashing chefs who enjoy doing what they do
the betas were leaked dude, you need to relax, a chef can only cook what is available,
also wm 6.5 is not even out of beta stages IMO, every single build has a bug, even the ones that are in the official ads by the real makers, u can tell bcos the battery icon is still not positioned properly as in 6.1
the official R3A rom from SEUS also has at least one bug i can point to you, and that's official, so back to your question, whats your question again?

but you misunderstand...we do take you serious,,,,very serious. Well..right up to the 100% reliable statement. It goes like this. It all depends on your likes, needs, and tastes.
I too am a Smaberg fan. But he uses a released OS, and changes the wrappers. Thats like changing your tie...should I wear blue today or the Red one with stripes. He does(did) a GREAT job.
But the 6.5 ROMs...all new...all different, so many varieties. Pick one you like...or not. But...in 6 months....building a 6.5 ROM will be like...Smabergs ROMs...which tie should I wear today. Great work...but.....not new.
People who flash here, stability maybe in their top 5 concerns...but probably not 1, or 2. they ride bikes downhill at full spead...or at least want to. They have more beta products that actual release products. NO ONE here flashes a ROM expecting it work perfect because they have a huge business trip tomorrow. They only HOPE it will be perfect...because if it is...they will have the coolest thing in the room.
there is no medicine to fix these symtoms....only new ROMs
Do not thing we do not take you serious....we do....we just don't understand your question.

Yep, bugs usually show up dependent on usage and how critical they are varies on what a person cares about. So you're "stable" might not be someone else's stable and vice versa.
Because people like me exist..
Speaking for myself.. My X1 was just getting boring until of course I learned I could flash the rom with the latest thing people are talking about but don't have... WOW!! My phone became exciting again..
These chefs are the coolest.. I toggle between the different roms from the credible chefs and that 'need for new' on my budget is quenched... <Donations to come (promise) >

welldone to our chefs
I strongly believe that we can only progress in life by trying new ideas and stuffs. so i will say a big welldone to all the chefs for all their time and devotion they've dedicated to these roms we keep flashing. Trully without these so called beta roms, the x1 would have been the worst phone i believe, ever produced by sonyericsson. i have had all the se P series, and then thought that the X1 was going to be the icing on the cake. that never happened. certainly personally is was product i've ever spend so much money on. fortunately i found this website, and it rescued me. i keep flashing my phone with new roms. it is as if i have a new phone all the time. so please leave the chefs alone. stay with the se stable rom. Again welldone to all the chefs.

What is the most stable / bugfree ROM available

I use my phone constantly and find even the AT&T stock ROM is not stable. I reboot nearly every day which in itself wouldn't be a problem if I could just reboot in the morning and forget it. However, randomly the ROM gets very very slow and I have to reboot and nearly always just when I need it. I don't need a lot of flash or extras though a little speed boost would be nice. I can install the few extra applications that I need. What I really need is a good, stable ROM.
Any suggestions?
There are lots of good ROMs here. But everyone uses their phone differently. Try one out and see how it goes for you.

Mod seem to close these questions very quickly.
But I like to say that I have tried them all and seem to always revert back to Josh's 1.7 (with Sense 2.1) which can be found here....
http://f1ip.net/Downloads/RhodiumFiles/Roms/Joshkoss/1.7_Full_Final.7z
Thanks but ...
I appreciate your input steviewevie but I am doing something not everyone here does ... actually looking for some opinions.
Josh 1.7 Or Jackos OldSchool
I've tried pretty much every GSM ROM out there for my TP2. The most stable with the most available RAM and fastest speed goes out to Jackos Old School 1.1 ROM without a doubt.
I think there should be a new monthly thread poll open for the 1st week of every month with this exact question.
I can understand how the veterans get sick of this and clutter up things.
On the other hand, I can appreciate having the information available. It is frustrating to search and only find locked threads.
Please mods, take me up on this idea, or at least some version of it.
I wish I had time to flash 10 different ROMs to see which is most stable and fits my needs. Let's leave that up to the people that have time, and allow them to summarize their findings via a regular poll.
Thank you
I find my ROM to be quite stable.
I should release it one of these days.
Would you like to be my exclusive BETA tester?
Deep Shining very good.. Ive tried them all
Deep shining is a very good ROM.. I've tried em all .
I have tried just about every cook and i would have to say eras2r makes the most stable ROM for the rhodium.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585403
This is the only ROM that i have flashed that never crashes or freezes EVER. i have been using bug free windows mobile for almost a year now
Personally, I find EnergyROM to be my favourite. I know you don't want loads of extras but EnergyROM is very very smooth and looks very nice and then you have those extras to play around with when you get bored!
I have been using Energy with Cookie HomeTab 28th May 2010 verison, and works very well.
Very fast rom, even loads and runs Copilot8 without issues, which is more than the HTC 6.5 rom did.
I agree. Mods, why not put up a mini site with a list of ROMs available - such as a "marketplace" and then let users rank and comment with feedback. I've spent a week searching through all of this trying to figure out which way to go. I can't just flash a ROM, get it all customized, then 2 weeks later do it again. I actually have to use the phone to work. At the very least this would allow people to rule out certain ROMs based on their needs.
Ranking a ROM is so objective... Some users expect features, others speed and all the all business users a reliable ROM is a must. Maybe there should be a "stars-voting" system that allows the user to vote for speed, stability, futures, eye-candy etc.?
Anyway I think that a pinned thread with a ROM index would be enough. Just a basic info + developers comment.

I'm not sure that would help, each entry would be the same:
Content: "list of contents"
Comment: "Best ROM out there - ever"
The contents would change, but the comments wouldn't!
Yeah, because people are too cocksure. I would never call my rom "better" or even "the best". I thought about the chief description as a short note what are goals for each rom.
Ach, and one screenshot would be nice too.

My comment was tongue-in-cheek, but honestly, wouldn't you want the Chef of your ROM to be working on having the absolute best ROM out there? Otherwise he/she would not have very much motivation. Think about it:
"Yup, my ROM is OK, but not the best"
Not a ROM I would try...
So make sure you never try my roms
I think that a rom is a personal combination of programs/skins that fit the chief. But that's just my thought
I saw a guy that said something like that: "Asking on xda what's the best rom is like going to a bar and asking with beer is the best". Different persons, different ROM experiences All about taste.

[Q] what is better MIUI -OR- Simply Honey?

(since my last thread has been deleted, I will ask again
EDIT: AND Cyanogen Mod 7 ROM DOES IT HAS BETTER CAPABILITIES??
I wanna know which rom has better capabilities simply honey or miui
(Capabilities=
which rom is faster(miui or SH) or they have +- the same speed?
which rom is stabler? or they are the same..
which rom has more and better features or they have the same?
this things..)
thanks for helping
NOTE- I have already read both SH's and MIUI's threads
NOTE- if you have nothing helpul to say to my question and you just wanna say negetive comments- do NOT NOT NOT answer!! its not the place for you
simple honey
its perfect
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
i would go to simply honey it's simpler and really good. im not on simply honey but looking at the specs of the rom it seems really good. however front camera doesnt work as it says on the ROM and you need to reflash another kernel!
another thing is they have took out apps that came in with SGS from the stock ROM some of it i find very useful. i think the speed of both ROM is quite the same ^_^.
thanks !! waiting for more people---and which rom offers more features? SH or miui?
(and I have SH 3.2 dont wanna update it to3.5 because there are problems with 3.5)
There are no problems at all with 3.5....you're getting crazy man....you're paranoic!
Try and judge!!!

there might be problems!! now I have simply honey 3.2 so I dont want to upgrade due to all the problems in 3.3 . (and as I said- 3.5might include some problems too)
p.s- why am I getting crazy ? lol? it seems you are..
waiting for more people and help please..
please help me guys.. need more comments

This is terrible, you cant compare those 2 roms.
And you said you've tested them both, so why not use that one that's better?
if its hard to understand, the word "them" means to simply honey 3.2 and 3.5 !!!
of course I can compare ONLY about the CAPABILITIES
(about how the room feels/looks/ beutiful or not-- all this things of course, I will decide by myself and im NOT asking for that)
NOTE- if you have nothing helpul to say to my question and you just wanna say negetive comments- do NOT NOT NOT answer!! its not the place for you
people please help me.. !
Dude, both are awesome. But you can not compare the two ROMs! Simply Honey is 2.3.3 based and MIUI is 2.3.4 based!
The difference in features are very minor, maybe a little here and there. But basically both are equally good ROMs. Try it out for yourself and see which one you like!
I'm currently running MIUI MCGv3 which is fantastic but it is not quite as complete as the stock custom roms like Juwe's or Simply Honey, two of the biggest let downs being the lack of an FM Radio and choppy MKV playback. But in saying that it is stunning visually and has a lot of cool unique features. I haven't used Simply Honey only Juwe's so this could be a little biased. All in all you'll have to try them out yourself, different rom's for different people and different needs.
vijaykanth--- thanks god that's what I want to know -- "The difference in features are very minor" omg thanks finally someone understands!! well I hope your right..
Shrapnel2--- thanks you very much!
still need more people and comments
**and what about the speed? the speed is preety much the same in both roms or one of them is way more faster?
(and look guys, all about how the rom looks and feels of course I will decide by myself.. im looking for the rom who has better features, and fast rom. so thats what im asking if the features, speed, stable and all this stuff are the same +- in both roms or not)

The main reason I moved to MIUI from Juwe's is that I was getting bored of the same old interface even with changing round png's in the framework and modifying bits and pieces- everything still looked bland to me. Speedwise I think that if you compared the two(Juwe's or Simply Honey on ext4) you would find them to be fairly close, I think lists tend to load faster on MIUI but it has been a while. Stability is fairly good but not 100% of the time, eg before settings Force closed on me, no biggie though as I had apps fc on Samsung GB roms too. Another thing to note is battery isn't the best on MIUI, you'll easily get a day under average use but don't expect three day marathons like some Samsung roms do. So good luck on picking!
each rom is better if the person likes it .I use miui but before that i used simply honey and it was good but i like miui better .It has lots of new features
I installed Simply Honey 3.5 the day it was released, I was previously using Darky's Rom v10 and I was very happy with the change. SH is visually beautiful, I installed Dark Core kernal after installing it to fix the bluetooth issues with CF-Root.
The front camera is still displayed sideways but thats no concern to me since I barely use it anyway. Love the new lockscreens, the market is a bit odd to look at but it doesn't bug me too much (if it does there's plenty of themes out there). After flashing the SGS2 email apk I was very pleased with my phone. It's been a lot more snappier than Darky's and haven't noticed any lag at all..
I'd take Simone's advice and install SH 3.5, you wont be dissapointed =)
Just try both for a full day - you can revert to your previous one anytime with a nandroid backup.
as far as I've understood -after restoring applications, the andorid market and applanet might not recognize them as 'installed applications'. then, I will not be able to update my restored applications
and thanks everyone!!! waiting for more comments..

It is no different than the numerous GB/CM based ROMs. Who cares?

Chill out. We have to get AOSP working bug-free in the first place, then they'll start looking different. Even CM9 doesnt have any CMsettings or anything special. We're sorry that something that we're beating Google at (ICS release for NS) currently is not to your standards.
In due time.....in due time.
I see where the OP is coming from, but I disagree. The fact that the devs work hard to bring the OS to our devices is pretty appreciated. They pretty much do Google's work for free by modifying the code.

lol im not mad that they are all buggy, im mad that people are "deving" with a buggy base and just adding to it. why not be a little patient, if you cant create it/build it from source, wait til the base you will be using to 7zip and copypaste into your rom becomes stable. dont use an alpha build to promote your name

I don't think you quite understand how it works currently. There is no buggy base. They're attempting to adapt AOSP source code to compile and execute correctly on the Nexus S. This is way more complicated than you think. Almost all "bugs" you see are byproducts of tinkering with configurations, compile-ations, etc, in an attempt to get it working properly.
To put things in perspective, ICS development for the Nexus S is light years ahead of all other devices. For that reason alone, we should be grateful. Others are still struggling to either boot, or get somewhere AFTER boot.
If you don't like the way it's done, then wait for the official ROM. You have a choice, after all.

yes, two roms are getting built from the source on xda; kwiboo and koush. then all the others.
both kwiboo and koush thread is full of bug reports of people using a different rom like brainmaster, ultimate ics, kangorama ics, etc.
all this does is add confusion from the rom chef adding things to the original rom developers work
what im suggesting/ranting is that if a rom chefs should be a little more patient in making more spinoff roms that don't really add much besides to confusion for noob users
Your argument makes a LOT more sense now. I agree, if people are posting bugs in Koush/Kwiboo sections when running brainmaster or other tweaked versions, then that's bad.
Your original argument didn't really point this out.
Not much can be done about that, aside from aggressive moderation. Tweakers will be tweakers.

Most of the bugs posted are not even valid. One in particular is known issue even on the GNexus.
The biggest issue I see is code optimization at this point.
One thing I think no one has mentioned is ICS may never be super fast on the NS. I will be much faster on dual core hardware

This is one thing that has been bothering me as well. Every single one of these ROMs are not truly as smooth as Gingerbread. In no way do they even reach the fluidity found in Gingerbread ROMS. The hardware acceleration helps, but even then you can still feel the difference between the two Android releases. I have yet to hear a proper explanation as to why this is happening and I was hoping that the fix for this would be Google releasing the official Ice Cream Sandwich update.
Is it is code optimization as you say? Or is there more to it than that? I want to believe that hardware doesn't play a significant role here.

Strange, I've found that Koush's latest (CM9 Alpha 11) is plenty fast, not significantly slower than GB. Definitely Kwiboo v2 was slow as molasses, but then again it came out days ago (a long time when it comes to how fast things are moving). BM v5 is pretty fast but buggy. Also, it seems that adding franco kernel to any of these also speeds things up significantly, but I haven't tried it with CM9 Alpha 11 yet.

I found kwiboo's to be a lot more stable than koush's. although koush's had more functionality.. my bluetooth didnt work, and i got many errors.
Understand that we are using old binaries. ICS will run just as good as gingerbread, if not, better. These will make a world of difference

I'd kind of disagree with this. In its current early state here on the NS, I've gotten it running butter smooth and highly responsive, on a 1.1 OC/UV kernel. This is WITHOUT tweaks to filesystem, etc. If certain apps would just display properly when GPU Rendering is turned on, and some battery stuff worked out, I'd be 100% content.
Now granted, I've seen it running on the SGS2 and Galaxy Nexus and they're clearly speedier, but in my experience, my apps run just as fast as they did in GB.
On a side note....wanna see slow? It's been ported to the T-Mobile G1! HA! The first, original android phone!
I agree. there was actually a recent article on android police about this. There is no problem with people making their own roms but don't clog up the development section with "roms" that really all they do is bundle some easily downloadable market apps and some wallpapers and call it a new rom.
What the SGS2 xda forum actually did was split the dev section into 2 . One for original dev work and one for spin offs.
