Front camera vs no front camera - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

In all the pics I see of "our" phone on the net, there is a FRONT camera as well as a back camera. On MY phone, there is no front camera, only the main camera in the back. From what I've read, there are two model numbers for this phone. The p3100 and the p3700. I'm assuming the LACK of a front camera means mine is the p3100? Any info would be appreciated...

The original gsm version has a front camera. I have a cdma sprint model so no front camera .
But...the cdma version has some other upgrades that the gsm does not.

Very strange. Mine is an unlocked GSM version complete with t mobile prepaid sim card, and NO front camera. Seems like they were doing a lot of model changes and upgrades at one point.

Difference between AT&T Tilt and AT&T Tilt NC?

Does it mean No Camera?
I would like to confirm that.
Thanks
Your correct. One has a camera the other one doesn't.
yes, according to the manuals, the AT&T Tilt NC has no camera, and is also the AT&T 8900 whereas the Tilt with cam is the 8925

Did you mean FRONT camera? Or some of these devices has no camera at all?
Neither Tilt has the front camera; the Tilt NC has no camera at all.

Diamond and AT&T 3G network.

Hi everyone:
I just bought a new HTC Diamond and brought it back to US.
In US I'm using AT&T and my previous phone was HTC TytnII which also brought from Taiwan.
When I was using TytnII, I can get 3G signal with no problem at all.
However yesterday when I get off the plane and put my ATT sim card into my new Diamond, I can only get EDGE signal.
I read some threads in the forum already and I found out that maybe is the radio's problem.
Now here is my question, I checked my config of the radio option in Diamond and I found out that I did have the option for UMTS(850+1900) which I know that AT&T use this freq. for 3G network. So how could I still have no 3G signal after all? Is this a hardware limitation? Or should I upgrade my radio rom(I think I'm using .05 radio right now since I haven't upgraded anything.)
Please help me out here because I really have no clues...Tks.
try installing or have it sign in on att network...check your network setting...or find htc network config cab that should do it.
make sure that its sign in on medianet or pda plan which ever you have. you can google att network sign in
Did you buy the U.S. 3G version? It's got a bigger battery(1350) and a rubberized battery cover.
I tried using Network Wizard to reset but still no good news.
Can you tell me what kind of data plan you are using right now?
Mine is 19.99/month but I know there is a PDA data plan.
I'm wondering maybe it's the data plan that restricts me from 3G network.
However I'm still able to access MediaNet network via EDGE though.

No it doesn't. I had a US Diamond purchased from Best Buy, and it looked identical to the European version.
To the OP:
Unless you bought the US version of the Diamond, it does not have the hardware necessary to connect to AT&T's 3G network.

He was confused. The CDMA version in the US (and Telus in Canada?) has the larger battery with the non-faceted back.

I don't want to sidetrack this thread, but I don't believe you bought the unlocked US 3g version. Mine is missing the front camera (different then the european version), and it has the 1340 battery and "rubberized" backing. Bought mine through bestbuy also.

Agree with rpassmore. I bought mine from Best Buy and it comes with the bigger battery and different battery cover (it's different both in that it's rubberized, and also bigger to accomodate the bigger battery).
Perhaps the confusion is such that the latest Euro models also include these upgrades?? In any case, the first run of the Euro model was a few millimeters thinner due to a smaller battery and battery cover, and the battery cover also had a shiny finish too.
The Diamond I bought from Best Buy ($699) had the faceted back similar to the Fuze. I didn't pay attention to the battery since the phone was too small for me overall.

Video Chat in the USA

So i would like to know how many people currently live in the USA and at this very moment, not in the future but today, have and would use the front facing camera with something like skype for video conferencing.
would love the feature but we need a front facing camera, so far no network in america would support such feature cuz even though they all claiming to have america largest 3G network, none of them cant even support true front camera vid chat, it sucks and if we do video chat right now, its via WiFi

not true i teather my phone to my laptop and video chat all the time and it works just fine.
This I never understood... I just came down from Canada and got the Fuze... I had expected it to have the front faceing camera. Up in Canada if you're on the Rogers AT&T network they have a TON of phones that use video calling.
Here's a link to their touch diamond.. which you can see has a front facing camera:

it's working great! except it doesn't use the BT mic, only the built in one
just to test this, i purchased two nokia 6120's a while back and got two att sim cards with unlimited videoshare and data on both accounts. Then I attempted to start a video call while on 3g and it failed. this came as no surprise because carriers are able to charge us for video calling and sharing so there must be something on their networks that detects this which means that the netwoirk did not have the rite settings. I attemped this in 2007 so there were no plans to roll it out then
me!
I live in the US and would love this and i know i can see people who call me from skype with video on my fuse just that theres now way for them to see me.

don't you have to pay for it and it only worked for my back camera not front camera.
it is because Americans are deprived of cutting edge technology or something they cant charge us for more down the line. look at verizon and their phones they cripple them so you need to buy the features. thieves

I really wanted to take advantage of the front-facing camera, so I'm going to get that software.
BTW, I don't know if I should start another thread, but I always thought the front-facing camera would be a good 'security' camera - is there a way to get it to record in the background?

Because reindeer dont need much bandwidth.
Last time i saw the verizon site at fenway it had 7 T-1's. And they could still improve it. The infastructure your talking about, has to be in place to support all this traffic. That maybe why you dont see a full-on videochat launch in the u.s. yet.
At&t announced 4g buildouts by 2012 in certain markets. Keep your fingers crossed. A mix of land/cell technology capable of all the "wii-max" type features.

The Diamond AND the Touch Pro over seas version have the front facing camera. The Diamond over in Canada on Rogers ATT Network has this however they dont have the touch pro (Fuze). Regardless from living in Canada for years I saw promos for their phones that allowed video calling to other phones directly and thought it was VERY cool. I assumed coming down here it would be the same. I was suprised when ATT in the states didnt provide the service. Not to mention pulled the front facing camera's right out of the phone. My understanding was it isnt there at all, not just hidden under the case.

I would ONLY if there were peope I know that use it, it's a great feature and all, but if you're the only one with it, well, it's kinda useless. My family and friends are on many different networks, AT&T, Verizon, US Cellular, T-Mobile as well.

HTC Diamond (Chinese)

Okay so i bought a Chinese HTC Diamond in China.
It looks exactly like the original one and the only difference is that it doesnt have WIFI and some other features like the camera has worse quality (2mp).
I tried using my T-Mobile (USA) Sim Card but the phone isn't connecting to the network. This phone is Triband (900/1800/1900) and works in GSM, GPRS and EDGE networks.
It is technically "unlocked" but i'm not really sure.
Anyone know what could be the problem?
Should I update the ROM to quadband to solve this?
Thank you in advance!
r u sure that one is not a fake diamond?
It is a fake diamond.... but a high quality copy, it works exactly like the original one. It was really cheap compared to it's features.
I'm just asking how can i make it work in the USA? It is triband and it should work with my tmobile sim card.

Usually what the spec says does not mean it actually has them, often total BS.
Don't expect too much, get a real diamond.

Yeah okay, if you're all gonna say that you're not helping me.
What it's done, it's done.
I can't afford a real diamond so i got this one really cheap and its actually a really good phone. And i checked the radio and it says "GSM 900/1800" and "PCS1900" so it has to be minimum dual-band, and i believe T-Mobile should work with it.
So if anyone knows about any update for this phone that could get it to work, please tell me. For now i will just check if it works with AT&T sim card or other carriers.
Thanks.
I don't thinks update with some ROM is possible It's not a Diamond but a simil-Diamond!!!

I can always try, if i unlocked the 850 gsm band it would work with in the US.
The problem could be that it is only dual band (Europe) instead of triband?
So ill just call tmobile today and see what happens.

Well, I'm a Chinese, and I'm using a HTC Touch Diamond.I'm sure that you've got a fake one, which is well known to our Chinese as a name of Shanzhai(zh sounds like dr),the name means it is made in small or OEM factory, but usually, Shanzhai cell has a lot of function(such as extraordinary standby ability etc.)
Lot of Functions and stability but Diamond's ROMs and Radios aren't compatible ^^ so thazeid don't solve his problems with Diamond SW

Bricked S3 Lte replacement MB

I have a S3 LTE (4G) that does not start anymore aka DEAD. I have a motherboard from a screen broken S3 3G that works perfectly. Is it worth taking that logic board and transplanting it onto the LTE screen one ? are the connectors compatible ?

Replace the broken digitizer of the 3G s3 with the LTE one. Lots of members of xda says they are the same. give it a try
I don't think replacing motherboard is a good idea, as they are not identical.
I have taken apart many S3s but I have yet to look inside an S3 4G. I might find some HD youtube footage and go from there. Its basicly the same thing but with more RAM and an LTE monicker which I'm sure the S3 was capable of doing anyway but with different firmware.
Replacing a 4G screen with a 3g screen results in loss of baseband and imei. So be careful
