No luck for 3 days of trying to root my g1 :(

oke, i tryd to root my G1 and did almost every way without success after its because i have donut 1.6 and buildnumber drc92 .. so that explains it.. not allowed etc etc 1 click does not work.. oke..
now i found a few topic's about how to root donut.... but also whit out success i am not allowed to downgrade.. seems like my phone never is gonna break free from evil google

where exactly are you getting stuck? need more info

well at bootloader it wont downgrade.. to 1.5.. it does just nothing..

Try to root youre phone with the goldcard.img method. I never found a english version of this tutorial, only dutch. So no link to a dutch document

your not in the US?

i am dutch .. and cant do goldcard way .. dont have a mw mobile anymore -.-

I have the same problem, I'm on DRC83 on 1.6 and I can't downgrade. My G1 is from the states but I live in Costa Rica. I always used the US Version when upgrading my phone (When I got it, it wasn't even on 1.5) So i manual updated to 1.6 with the US Versions.
But It just doesn't seem to read the update file :S

try this method, step by step instructions. My friend had the same problem after he downloaded the htc 1.6.. This was the only wat he could get root again.

And the file is on the root of the sd card? It can not be inside a folder or anything.

i try'd the unlockr way but on step 1: back to cupcake not allowed to install the 1.5
maybe its cause its not the "dutch" or "European" version
and no i am not so stupid.. just on sd/update.zip not in any folders

Make sure you are unzipping the rc29 file first, then just grabbing the dreaimg.nbh and renaming it to update.

he cant flash it until he uses the goldcard method.

Does he need to use the goldcard method cause he's not in the US? Or is it donut related?

My G1 is also bought in the Netherlands and i had the same problem. He really needs to use the qmat(goldcard) method.
There are two options to make a goldcard. One with use of a Windows Mobile phone, or an other with the use of linux . I did it with the use of a laptop and a Ubuntu live cd. It is really simple to do unless you have the hardware.
The problem is not related to donut.

Its because its a non-UK European phone. Bootloader is locked from flashing w/o a goldcard

Hello everyone,
I have a rooted g1 and I was putting on the 2.1 rom on my phone. I was following a guys instruction off of youtube but it totally messed my phone up. Now its stuck on the pitcure with the open box pointing a yellow arrow on the phone right next to it(the update screen), what do I do??? Thanks for your help.

If you had root why did you flash the radio again?
That gives bricks applying radio after having root is pointless.
What are you trying to do?

Just tell me everything you did, step by step.

ok first i put both of his zip files on my sd card then turned off my phone and turned it on with the home key, then i backed up my phone, then a factory wipe/reset, then applied the radio update, then tried to apply the other zip file but couldnt, so i rebooted my phone and now im stuck

But you have to have a custom recovery image before you can flash either of those.

i think it was just a radio but not sure. but i followed that guys video step by step and now im in this position

Ahh you might brick, you seem to have flashed the Radio made for HTC hero not G1....Notice the title: "How to get Android 2.1 on HTC Hero"
To use Hero 2.1 on G1 it shows it here @ XDA, you only needed Haykuro SPL and the 26I radio/
If rec mode is working then you arent brick or if you can get into bootloader.

how do i get in rec mode or bootloader

Hold down home when turning on the phone=recovery
Hold down camera button while powering on= bootloader
If you can't get into either one of those, likely bricked. I know with WM devices flashing a radio for another phone is one of the fastest ways to brick your phone, Android seems to be much more forgiving, so hopefully you will be lucky and if recovery and bootloader don't work, you can possibly get ADB to work.

If you don't figure out how to do this BEFORE you do it, you will likely brick your phone, if not sooner, soon enough. Doing it along with a video isn't enough to make sure you won't brick your phone.
Read through the steps of rooting, flashing a basic, stock ROM, do that a time or two, and then get into the more up-to-date stuff.
Your method of going about a new task is going to... well, it isn't going to work, unless you are really, really lucky.

I am at the rainbow screen and when it loads up to do the dreamimg.nbh it says not allowed, then puts me back to the rainbow screen with seria 10.

Had the same issue - was flashing the RC29 (US)version
the minute i flashed the RC7 (UK) version it went straight in no probs
also make sure you have the file on the root of your SD card with no other partitions on it and that it is formatted to FAT32

Hey thanks, I got it to work.. but now i have a problem with my internet connection, it wont even connect. i am now on firmware 1.6 Cyanogen Mod version 4.2.3.1.. one step at a time i guess.. any ideas on how to get my internet working again??

Hey guys I was hoping you could help me!
I am also trying to downgrade an Italian Tim G1 and am having no success.
I have my Dreaimg.nbh file on my sd card. When I hold the camera button and the power button for some reason it doesn't seem to show the rainbow screen but instead shows the bootloader screen.
I briefly get an error message saying 'No image' before it gives me the option to update. If I go ahead, it goes through a process of reading an image, checking signature etc but then comes up with:
Model ID incorrect.
Update fail.
I'm stumped! Any help you could give me would be brilliant.

Are you using US nbh (rc29) or european (rc7)? You absolutely need rc7. Also, you ablsolutely need to format your card to FAT32 before it will read it correctly. Good luck.

nothing works!!!
gold card wont work
rom manager wont work.
read almost everything installed al lot of programs.
universal androot wont work.
rom manager hangs several times.
usb debugger is on.
i've got in my menu superuser machtingen. can click it.
works, but no apps will install the recovery.
who nows the answer. i want to have gingerbread or yoshi on it.
apps as wazzup will work with them

i've done that, on the grey menu he say's access denied.
the downgrade wont work. also the goldcard wont work
and oneclick wont work also. so who nows the answer

Stupid question. Which phone do you have? US T-Mobile? Rogers Dream? etc...
Depending on which phone you have. You are required to use a specific nbh file.
IE: dreaming.nbh for US T-Mobile...
There are RC7 and RC29 (if I remembered it right) for different G1 phone.
Also, you will have to format your SD card using FAT partition.

One more thing, if that is what I think it is. It's US T-Mobile, then you will need to use RC29, not RC7. But you have to confirm that first.

Flashing ROM gone wrong, cannot sign in Google

Hello,
I tried flashing this ROM. Something went wrong, not quite remember what - I think it was the verification.
As a result (I had to wipe before installing), my screen got stuck on the G1 screen. I followed these instructions, and installed the linked DREAIMG-RC29.zip. When I rebooted my phone, I was asked to sign in to my Google account, an operation which failed because I'm not on an Internet plan (3G).
I tried installing other ROMs but they all failed for one reason or another - mostly verification issues. I have no idea why, I've rooted my phone and everything.
In any case, I'd like to use a newer version of Android whatsoever, so logging in isn't really the problem (although right now it is because I cannot use the phone).

Sound like you are not rooted yet. You cannot flash custom ROM if you are not rooted. Follow the instruction from the link below and your G1 will be rooted flashed with your custom ROM:

It shows the red-green-blue-white screen, then turns grey, "Checking" => "Not allow" and then back to the red-green-blue-white.
Edit: Well, if I don't do that, I can still install update.zip (step 2). Then I'm stuck in the same problem (can't sign in Google). Tried looking in the "2~By-pass Google sign-in" but I don't really understand what's going on; how to get that ADB and what do I do then?

It was bought in China but I think it's German (the keyboard is Qwartz, I have ß over the s etc.).

It gets stuck at the "Click "Get SD Card Serial from WINCE Device"" step, the program just stops working. :\

Well, I think I've made some progress, realizing that one of the steps I've done trying to fix the pgone must have unrooted it. I couldn't find a way to root it back as I cannot bypass the log in phase. Can anybody please help me with that?

Yes, when you did that you just unrooted your G1.

When I power it via fastboot, I get the rgb screen, then grey, and it goes "Loading..." => "Checking..." => "Not allow". What does it mean?

You are starting up your phone in "flash-mode" (power + cam) and you have a *.nbh file on your SD-card -> flashing of this nbh file is started when powering up the phone, but ... you do not have a goldcard or a wrongly signed *.nbh file, so flashing is interrupted.
You need a Goldcard to flash a different ROM on your phone when you are not rooted resp. do not have a SPL on your phone which accepts ROMs signed with test keys.

Could you please explain a bit further on? I don't know what a Goldcard is and can't find a good answer online.
