Does anyone know what the availability of the Verizon Skype app will be after its launch? Is there any point in hoping that it will become available for hero on other networks (or even other continents).

Does anyone have a feel yet for how much Verizon dogged down the Droid 3 with bloatware, bad hardware decisions, and/or just generally screwed up the specs from what Motorola originally intended it to be...?
For instance:
- is the GPS locked so Google Maps can't access it?
- is there Crapware that I won't want yet won't be able to uninstall?
- can't make it a hotspot?
- can't tether it without fees or 3rd-party software?
- are there other things Verizon has "branded" that will make me crazy(er)?
Should I hold out for an unlocked version on Ebay, or go for the one from Verizon and unlock it myself..?
Or...is the locked version kinda ok enough to deal with that unlocking it isn't worth it?
Thanks.

Ok so as about what you asked here is what i see on my system.
There is some verizon apps preinstalled that cant be removed
V Cast Media Manager
V Cast Music
V Cast Tones
V Cast Videos
VZ Navigator.
they do not however seem to bog the system down at all.
it can be a hotspot but until rooted you will have to pay for it i assume. I never use this feature so not sure how all that works
I would also say you cant tether it without the verizon software to do so but again i do not use that feature
Maps uses GPS just fine, i have never heard of moto blocking the GPS from google maps before.
I personally think it is a great phone. i have hated the last couple versions of blur but this one i could live with just would like to have root to remove some of the verizon stuff. The system is snappy i think if you could get a staight vanilla rom like apex it would be even faster but i have yet to see the system lag or force close anything.
I would also be willing to bet someone will find a way to root it in the next couple weeks.
I would get it but just my opinion
XT860?
It looks like there will be a Canadian version on Bell in a few weeks too.
I'm in the UK, and all reports suggest that the Milestone 3 (as presumably it would be called) isn't getting a UK release, so I'm looking at all these other international models and am wondering which would be most appropriate.
My assumptions so far are:
1. Droid 3 is primarily CDMA, and although it has some GSM capability, I'm not sure that it's going to work terribly well in the UK.
2. The XT883 (Chinese Milestone 3) is primarily CDMA too, and will also potentially suffer from language issues, and also things like inability to access the Android market?
3. The XT860 from Bell might be a contender - I think I'm right in saying that Bell operate a GSM network, and obviously the phone will be in English/French out of the box.
I guess the hardest part will be making sure the device is unlocked, i.e. not tied to a network, and will operate in the UK before buying one from abroad.
Does anybody have any thoughts?
Cheers,
Steve.
The Canadians get the XT860 Motorola Milestone 3 4G, or should we say Faux G since its not 4G and everyone knows it.
Unlocking the Droid 3 is a *****, If you do not have account with them it is near impossible all the codes only do not work since the phone goes to a subsidy mode.

Hey everyone!
So I'm obviously in the market for a tablet, and the Galaxy Tab seems to be the best fit considering its price and functionality.
I have two main issues I need help with:
First, I know Skype recently announced that the Galaxy Tab supports video calling. This is VERY important - one of the reasons I'm getting a tablet is to easily skype my sister (really, my niece) and my long-distance boyfriend. Does video-calling work on both the WIFI and the 3G versions? Has anyone had any problems getting Skype to work?
Second, I'm trying to decide whether to purchase the WIFI-only version from Best Buy ($279 right now) or buying a used 3G version from CowBoom for the same basic price. I like the idea of having the option of getting a data-plan at some point, but don't want to be locked into a contract. Also, the idea of getting it used is a little scary (although I'd probably get CowBoom's 1 year protection plan). How much does the faster processor on the 3G version actually impact its functionality? Any other reason to get the 3G, even if I never end up getting a data plan?
Some more details about what I'm looking to do, since that is probably helpful ... I basically want to be able to surf the internet, answer emails, watch hulu plus at home, use the Kindle feature to read on the metro, and Skype video-call my loved ones. I start a job in early December where I will get some kind of smart phone(BB now, but they are thinking of switching to I-Phone), which is why I'm considering getting a WIFI-only version.
Thats all, I really appreciate any help!
I wouldn't be afraid to buy the 3G version, the gps works better with a 3g radio, and there are some alternative roms available with the 3g versions, but none I know of for the wifi only.
I also believe skype only works on gingerbread 2.3.4, which you won't be able to get with the wifi only tab.

Even though I have the Verizon Gtab, you might consider a gsm, because there are many more roms available for it than the cdma version.

I've looked all over and found a wide mix of answers regarding this, so I thought I'd make a topic and just ask flat-out instead of thinking I know the answer.
Simple question - is there any version of the GT7 that allows both 3G and voice/text at the same time? I've seen mention of modem switchers that allow either voice+2G or just 3G, but nothing concrete for voice+3G on T-Mobile USA. Is there even a version of the tablet (other than the official T-Mobile one) that would get 3G on T-Mobile? All of the recent international Galaxy Tabs I've seen tend to favor AT&T US bands...
And I'm asking the question because I'm trying to find a tablet that would allow both voice and 3G on T-Mobile USA, and the HTC Flyer 3G is the only option I know will work for sure (I've read it may be possible with the T-Mobile Springboard / Huawei Mediapad, but I can't find anything concrete on it).

As everyone may know by now, T-Mobile plans to provide wifi calling to the Nexus 6 in early 2015.
http://newsroom.t-mobile.com/news/t...-to-its-data-strong-network-this-november.htm
My question is if this will only come to T-Mobile purchased Nexus 6 devices or will it be a global update pushed out by Google to allow wifi calling on carriers that provide this service. I would love to go with T-Mobile, but my home does not offer great service on their network. When wifi calling becomes available I'll jump on their network but until then I'll need to stick with either Verizon or AT&T. With that said, could I purchase the phone unlocked through Google Play or through Motorola (financing at 0%) and still use the phone with T-Mobile wifi calling once available?
Thoughts? Any input is appreciated.
There's one variant for the US so yes, you can.

Agreed. I know there's only one model for the US. I'm just not sure how this would work. I guess I don't know enough about wifi calling and the update that needs to be pushed for it to work. I know the only current phones that work with T-Mobile wifi calling are T-Mobile phones. I think I read somewhere it's baked into the kernal, but really not sure.
Thanks

I mean it's hard to say for certain until the update is pushed, but odds are what will happen is the update will be pushed to everyone with it restricted to working with t-mobile in the update, since the update is going to be from T-Mobile working with Google. I suppose there's hope that it'll support any carrier that will allow it but I wouldn't hold my breath for that.
Im assuming it will be the same hardware but with different device IDs for each carrier. This way OTAs will be more easily targeted.
It will be pushed to everyone. The same as a Verizon iPhone will work with t mobile Wi-Fi calling.
I was messing around with an unlocked At&t iPhone 5s I had gotten from my daughter which was supposed to have wifi calling pushed to it with ios 8 on T-mobile. Sorry to say it never happened. I am going to wait on the T-mobile sold phone just to be safe.
I don't see them pushing an update to all the phones for WiFi calling.
The way their current WiFi calling works is with a modified kernel. This means that only T-Mobile branded phones that get their updates from T-Mobile will be able to do WiFi calling. However, if they come up with a way for the Nexus 6 to support WiFi calling, i'm guessing it's going to be another app you'll have to install so that it can forward calls to your dialer. I do NOT think that they will push an update out to all Nexus phones to get this to work on ONE carrier. Since the Nexus 4, ALL of the nexus phones are the same across all carriers. At least in the US, if you buy the Nexus 5 from T-Mobile, you got the same Nexus 5 that you'd get from the Google Play Store. It also seems that they're the same phone for overseas too. The reason i say that is because if you look at the Galaxy Nexus (it had multiple versions; including international versions), it had multiple versions of the software, as you can see here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#takju. Takju and Yakju are both the Galaxy Nexus with different software. They haven't done that since.
I think this will be an app you can install on your phone to make it work with WiFi calling. Maybe Google will be pushing out an update to change the kernel to allow this... maybe... but the carriers will still need to build an app and push the users to download it. The carriers have not been allowed to change the software since the Nexus 4.

All nexus 5 phones got the update for sprint spark.
Hello,
I have been emailing, messaging, and calling ASUS regarding this issue. Today, I spoke with a supervisor over the phone regarding my work ticket for VoLTE.
His words not mine, ASUS is not currently attempting to get VoLTE functioning on this phone in the US. No future plans are being made for this. He was unable to give him specifics regarding a memorandum ASUS put out regarding concern over connectivity in the US, but stated that they (ASUS) are aware of the issue and will not be seeking further solutions.
I did my best to express how Verizon 3G doesnt function, ATT 3G will shortly stop working, and that TMobile is only offering a brief window before their 3G shutdown. I further explained that TMobile 3G is really only good for a small percentage of the US and that the vast majority of US cities will not be able to properly utilize it for voice calling. We went further into details on how those 3 companies are the only options in the US as smaller companies just "rent and borrow" tower bandwidth.
With all this said, it appears they are very aware that this phone will not have functional voice calling in the US very soon and for whatever reason, are unable or unwilling to fix it.

This is essentially the same response I received when I contacted them. In my communications, they seemed to blame the North American carriers for the issue since VoLTE works in other countries.
Admittedly I know very little about Band X 123 but Asus's argument is a good point from my laymen's perspective. When I pushed on T-Mobile, they informed me they do not disable features that it's the vendors control (this was my take-away from the FaceBook chat I had with a T-Mobile agent). So now I don't know who to believe.
At this point, I'd just like to know why a particular feature (not necessarily VoLTE) is disabled/enabled to begin with. Is it politics, money, something else?
