There are several threads on this, there really isn't a way to get all of it completely gone, there are still several pieces of framework left behind. You can try to use one of the Gutted, GBhill or AOSP roms and they get rid of most of it. Unless you really like fresh and want to search for how to remove HTC Keyboard and Rosie. I am not sure if you can remove the contacts program I don't think there is a default one underneath it to use like Sense has Android Home underneath it.

Keeping it simple for the ADD crowd...

tl;dr: I want a clean wm 6.1 rom for my Tmobile Wing that is stupid simple to install.
First off, let me say I really appreciate all the work that everyone has put into these custom roms here. I used to use X's MDA custom rom (and still do on my wife's MDA) because it was a very clean rom and it was stupid simple to use. You ran it, clicked next and yes to everything and waited.
I've had the Tmobile wing since launch and I've used the stock firmware because whenever I try to digest any information that is presented in the forum post format, my ADD kicks in and I get nowhere. Now that my replacement wing is here, I figured now is the best time to flash a new rom onto it because I can't put up with not being able to do things like take a picture without soft reseting.
So, I want to get rid of this stock rom but looking at the different rom threads, I'm not sure which one I want. I want to avoid as many 3rd party applications / today screen mods / touch interfaces as possible. Any 3rd party application I need, I'm happier to install post flash.
I do like the custom roms that have the obvious tweaks built in and I really like them when everything I need is included to take me from a fresh Wing out of the box to final product.
And finally, the easier the better. The last thing I have time for is tweaking my cell phone. I've put up with the awful stock rom since the wing came out simply because I haven't had the time to mess around with it.
I thank you in advance for your advice and help.
I'll build you a clean and simple ROM when I get home. Doubleclick on one file and click enter three times. Wait. Done.

That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you. I saw some of your threads and it looked very promising. I assume that covers the CID unlock?
Yep, it doesn't unlock it per say... just goes around the lock. Just one question. What programs do you want on it? If you're not sure, take a look at my kitchen. Those are the packages I'll be using.
Ok, I checked out your thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372236
Adobe Flash
AdobeReader
MS Voice Command
Remote Desktop
I do fine with battery indicator that came with the wing.
Updated Microsoft Office
Java
Wing Keyboard Driver
I'm not familiar enough with each of the registry tweaks you mentioned.
Ivan's Tweaks sound fine, Beam disabled (since there is no IR), disable the security warnings, disable the sliding sounds, get TZ from the network, enable file cache, hide sim contacts, Increase FileSystem filter cache, INcrease font cache, and most definitely get rid of SMS sent message notification if that isn't in there. Also IE temp files on the storage card would be grand.
Ideally the Comm settings would be set for Tmobile USA. (But I don't need My5)
And whatever applications are part of the core OS. I'm not all that unpleased with the stock rom for the wing. I uninstalled a bunch of applications when I got it and haven't had to hard reset it since so I don't remember all the different bloat that came on there. I just would like a bit less of a memory leak, a few good registry tweaks, and of course an update to wm6.1.
If the stock ringtones and sounds can be cut to save space, I'm all for it. However, I read on some of your other posts that you have to get to a certain size on the ROM or it fails. So if that is the case, the sounds/rings can stay.
And as long as I can flash back to the stock rom if I have to warranty this bad boy, I'm as happy as a clam. Maybe I'm crazy but I prefer installing applications outside of the rom process. I like starting with a clean base. The only things I have installed are Google Maps, SPB Wallet and SPB Pocket Plus. Like I said, I try to keep it very simple.

Sounds like how I like my ROMs.
My ROMs are stripped to the bare minimum. Yes, there is a size requirement that I've been trying to find a way to bypass it but my kitchen DOES work around the problem by inflating ROMs that are too small into the correct size with empty space. I haven't had time to work on this, yet, as I'm heading to work right now, but I will try to get it done tonight.
never mind, wrong...
Thank you ivanmmj. I would say keep the sounds in then since taking them out doesn't really do anything.
Would it be possible to put something in that could be deleted post install? I am just tossing out ideas.
As for "waiting for open touch 4" and using touch-it vista style, I've looked at the threads for that and it just has a bunch of stuff, like the HTC today screen stuff that I don't ever want to use. My today screen is very clean. It has Tmobile's plugin that shows network, date, wifi and bluetooth status. It has my owner info and my calendar info. This is it. I used to use SPB Diary but it was a memory hog and I never did like the clutter.
You don't need the sounds and the less files, the faster the ROM. You can't uninstall anything that's built into the ROM, only things installed after through the ExtROM or anything else. The padding I put in makes the ROM bigger but doesn't add any files. It's all HEX.

Is it possible to remove programs included in the original ROM?

There are several programs/functions i never use, so is it possible to remove them? I'm thinking of programs such as MP3 Trimmer, Windows Live, Windows Update and others.
/Carl
not really. these are embedded into the rom.
try our specially 'cooked' roms for different flavours
indeed
You cant just remove programs that are ROM based. However there are some apps that are "installed" when you hard reset your phone. This apps can be removed, however they will return when you hard reset your phone.
Just go on never using them. You will gain absolutely nothing by removing them from ROM.
However, if you don't want to see them in the program list, just remove the shortcuts.

Customize HTC Home?

Is it possible to customize HTC home that comes with WM6.1 for the Tilt upgrade that was just released? I have it installed and I like it, for the most part. However, I would really like to change the favorite contacts and the items in the launcher. However, when I hold my stylus on one of the contacts I don't want to see, it just starts dialing.
Is there a manual for the new software that I missed somewhere?

don't hold your stylus on one of the programs/contact you don't want to see, just click the last program/contact in the section, which should be an X
And this is why I need to play more than I did... Are there any other tweaks for the HTC Home? personally, I'm not liking the amount of real estate it takes on the screen... 2/3 of it in portrait and all but 1-2 lines in landscape is a little much.
I like the functionality of it, but would really like to find ways to make it look better/different if that is possible.

Nope. Its pretty much fixed size. You can get emunutz's HTC Home Customiser to chage the clock font, icons etc. But as for size... its fixed. The only way is to recreate something similar using apps/plugins like batterystatus
Any idea how to remove the "Weather" tab? I never use it and want to get rid of it.

[SOLVED] Desire Lockscreen

Hey there guys,
As the title says, i am meaning to ask about the HTC Desire lockscreen.
Our 2.1 Roms, including the ones from the HTC Legend, whenever you want to unlock you pull down the bar and the transition pulls down the lockscreen picture down as well.
On the HTC desire though, you just pull down the bar, and it unlocks in a better (for me) transition. The lockscreen picture stays intact, and the bar is just pulled down. I seem to prefer that.
Here's a video showing this @ 1:01.
Is this possible to achieve?
TIA
EDIT: 14/6/2010
Thanks to HomerSp (many many props) Desire lockscreen is now available!
Get it HERE as an update.zip.
Well..
Everything is possible! And I totally agree with you.
Yes, would be very nice. Perhaps a theme could resolve this or hopefully the official 2.1 will include this.
Now that we're three, anyone mind giving us a hint? I'll try and work on it myself if needed.
Gotha be something in the HTCLockscreen.apk !!
Hax some there making the lockscreen "wallpaper/background" not following the unlock bar. Instead you make it stand still and fadeout to the homescreen when unlock has been done.
Don't ask me how to do this tho
really liked it !
now , we are four
the lockscreen would be nice if it wre to be for the 2.1 roms
Also (thought I might add this in, might be some help), when answering a call only the bar slides down (not the background).
About whether this will be in the official 2.1, I'm not sure if this any indication of what to expect but on the HTC Wildfire (2.1 and similar specs to our Hero), the lockscreen is the same as the one we have in 1.5 (ie bar + background, not just bar).
My guess its just a modified HTCLockscreen.apk

Yea figured as much as well, thing is i have no idea if, due to the difference in screen size, it would get affected ( i suppose it will).
And due to me not knowing HOW to edit apk's, thought maybe i'd ask first.
I'll be uploading in a while the Lockscreen.apk off of MCR ROM for the Desire. My ROM isn't deodexed, so I can't test it, if any of you guys wanna give it a try, please do so and let me know. Nandroid first, as kendong said.
edit. just remove the HTCLockscreen.apk from system/app/ and push this one via adb.
Well, as noone tried it, i did a nandroid and cooked a Villain rom 5.5.0 with the APK integrated in it.
Freezes on boot. Ill try again and get a logcat, see if someone can help out.
I like the collapsing effect we have on 1.5..
Ok so instead of a cooked rom, i went ahead and installed 5.5.0 Villain Rom today, and removed the normal HtcLockScreen.apk via adb, and pushed the new one.
As expected, same as above, it wouldn't boot. I've got a logcat now.
Anyone mind giving this a look?
I am still not giving up here.
Decompiled the apk's via the APKTool, and i am "trying" to compare the two. Anyone with more knowledge please help me out.
Here are the two decompiled apk's. One from VR 5.5.0 and the other one from the Desire.
I do believe that this might be a problem with /system/frameword/com.htc.resources.apk. If it is, i have no idea how to fix it. This guess is based upon the fact that most themers update that particular apk in order to move from old framework rosies to new ones (1.5 =>2.1).
ANY help is appreciated.
There are 4 changed files located in DesireLock\smali\com\htc\lockscreen
HtcLockScreen$1.smali
HtcLockScreen$5.smali
HtcLockScreen.smali
R$string.smali
Comparing these would probably come up with only the bar going down as these files are smalled then the original hero lockscreen.

You based this on the file size difference, didn't you?
Well, substituting the files from the old lockscreen to the new desire lockscreen, then recompiling would make it work, you believe?
If all the other requets are the same, then yes it should be just a few lines actually. But i have no idea what the other differences between say the dialer, or other functionality the desire lockscreen adds/remove's.
I really want this too
Wouldn't it be easier to get the desire lockscreen.apk and put the graphics from the hero into the apk-file and edit the layout so the images fit into the screen?

New User to Forum....Help Please!!!

Ok, I'm new to the forum I need help and honestly am really confused on how to make a new background and put in all inside tabs so I can contribute to forum discussions and make my phone better by using the site. I have an HTC Pure with a windows mobile 6.5 OS...... I'm not really hip to the new words on the forum lol..... Also being that I'm a little new to the smartphone technology world please give me step by step instructions as if I'm a total idiot lol, because I kind of am to this.
Here's what I understand so far:
In order to make the backgrounds/wallpaper you need HDWall (I dont know where to download it, so a link would be helpful)
Also I wanted to know if there was a way to possibly remove pre-installed programs without a hard reset and possibly finding a way of "unlocking" the phone to just delete them
Well if you are new-beginner I think HDwall is a bit to advanced for you , there are more simple ways to modify the background of all manila tabs...
I suggest you use BG4ALL instead, this program simply changes the background for all tabs as you requested.
*install
*soft reset
*Now as you change the wallpaper in the today screen
all other tabs will have the same background.
Since I dont know wich manila version or rom version you have ill link you to several pages were you easily can download the program.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=615077
And finally... yes you have the possibility to remove pre-installed programs but usually not all ...its a limited area in most cases.
If you do want to remove a pre-installed program you should go to Settings-->programs-->remove programs. Now if the program you want to remove from the phone is not listed, then NO you cannot remove this program.
If the program is listed then yes it will be removed, but then if you hard reset the phone will automatically reinstall it as the phone gets prepared for first time use..
And one more thing if you find it annoying to see a program icon in the startmenu, that you never use you can remove this icon from there but you do not uninstall them in any way... go to device-->windows-->start-menu and simply delete the program you wich to be removed from your start-menu...
But be careful, if you happen to delete a program by accident ... there is no way to restore that program icon in the start-menu other then doing a hardreset will recreate the start-menu to default .
Ok cool thanks for alll the help and I guess welcoming me to the forum....I guess the next appropriate question would be how do I figure out what rom I have in my phone?
Nevermind I figured it out lol I have Rom version 2.31.502.4 (66023) WWE
You're welcome
Nevermind I figured it out lol I have Rom version 2.31.502.4 (66023) WWE
I have an HTC Pure with ROM version 2.31.502.4 and manilla 2.1.19183217.0 (as I suspect williamsn4 also has) I tried the second link (for manilla 2.1) but it had no effect. i.e. changing the background only changes it in programs as with or w/o BG4ALL. Any suggestions?
