Perhaps it's merely a training issue on my part, but does anyone here ever have the problem where the slide to unlock doesn't unlock. It always happens to me if the phone is locked and I get a text while it's locked, and sometimes even when no texts were received. The slider will slide all the way to the left or right, but then nothing happens. The only way I can get back to using my phone is to perform a soft reset.
I've experienced this same problem on several different ROMs. First on the NATF series and now on the last several Energy series.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any advice is greatly appreciated. BTW, I've searched all over, but wasn't successful in my searches. I may be searching the wrong key words.
Thanks in advance

This is my first time using this site and it's great! I'm sorry for any stupid questions I ask that may have been answered somewhere else already. I have the ATT Tilt/HTC Kaiser 8925 and love it...recently the ringer randomly switches to vibrate. It does it sometimes when I'm using the calendar/appointments and sometimes when I haven't even touched it. I've seen tons of posts on HTC Home versions that affect it but I found (then lost) a thread that said something about about a Registry Edit you could to to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated or any other thoughts that may help fix this. I keep missing calls and it's driving me crazy!! Thanks so much!
i haven't searched yet, but mine will switch to any level, i keep it on vibrate while at work(Kohl's) and today it switched to loud while in my pocket and i didn't realize it till my VC started to read an extremely long text in front of my boss. fortunately he thought it was the coolest thing ever but he said it will never happen again or i'm fired(ass hole) but yeah i will post what i find when i search later

Thanks so much for your help! Yeah, this is driving me crazy..pretty much every time I'm using the calendar/appointment fucntion, it switches automoatically to vibrate from ring and vibrate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!!
Are you using a stock ROM?
Unless people have had the exact same problem, it's going to be hard to help you without more info on what software is on your device.
If it does happen to be a random occurrence, a hard reset usually fixes it.
i have a similar problem with my tilt
i have noticed this hapening on my tilt which is running duttys latest rom. its only been happening in the last fed weeks.
ive also noticed that sometimes the phone will ring for a couple of seconds then go into vibrate mode as well.
i found my problem to be the settings in spb phone suite. if you have any profiles set etc if you change the system settings spb phone suite will automatically change them back after like 10-20 minutes. hope this is a help to some people. but i was about to go crazy till i sat and stared long and hard at my phone and realized what could also be the problem. i no longer have the issue!
i think this happens when your profile is set to automatic... it takes your status from your calender (if you have set it to busy in some meeting) it will switch to vibrate and if there is nothing for you in the calender it switches to the normal mode.....
I had the problem, then I flashed to L26 v6 and no more problems.

*Dumb question, but how and where do you SET your PROFILE? There's tons of options on the phone, but I don't know of anywhere to change something that says profile from automatic to something else? Any info. on that would be great and I'll try your solution. I'd rather not do a hard reset if I can help it. Thanks!
Having the same issue. Saw this post:

Not sure if it works yet, but good luck to others!

Looks like this might be due to HTC Home. It appears there is an update / fix:

Hi,
Just as many others here, I flashed my wing many times (lost count of it) on the first day I got it. So I don't know if this is a bug of the rom or it is like this even for the stock rom 'cause I never have a chance to use it. I am using ASerg's HERALD.ASerg.Lite4.WM61E.WWE rom. I love it so far, so fast and stable. However, when the phone is locked and idle (screen turned off, I don't know the term to describe this stage) and I got an incoming call, the phone interface will show up. Everything normal until the other side hang up and I exit the phone interface. Now the Today's device lock plugin said that my phone is lock, but I still can access the menu and everything. Can someone know how to fix this? I want the phone still unlock after I received a call, otherwise there is no point for the lock. Thanks for any help.
I have a samsung captivate. It is a early model, I got it the day they became available. The phone will not always answer an incoming call. the green answer button comes up but will not swipe. Anyone else have this problem? Will froyo cure this?
Youre gonna need to add some more info....
are you on stock 2.1?
if you did flash a custom Rom which one and which kernel/ modem are you using?
Did you do a restore with titanium? (this is where I had problems when I flashed)
captivate wont answer incoming calls Sometimes
yes complete stock, no mods whatsoever
I had a problem like this when I first got my Captivate as well. My problem was that it wouldn't swipe all the way across the screen. This got very frustrating while driving. The solution, surprisingly, was to make sure my hands weren't completely dry. Without traction on the screen my phone didn't register my fingers.
I don't know if that'll help but there are also other dialers out there on the market that you can try legitimately without rooting or flashing a different ROM (if you're trying to avoid doing those things).
I would do a flash back to stock and do a master clear to rule out any software issues. You can do this without having to root. You just wont be able to back up your apps and system config.

It is and always has been completly stock.
Are you rooted? I had this problem every now and then... not very often.. I figured it was due to one of the apps I was running in the background, that was sucking up all the RAM and the phone became unresponsive. I backed up my apps, and flashed stock and then restored only the ones I absolutely wanted... I am sorry, I dont remember which app it was, just know that it was a background process that was collecting some kind of stats! Hope that helps!
By the way how long ago did this start happening?

Thank you guys for helping the newb.. I appreciat the input!

The time it took you to go back and forth on this forum, you could have flashed back to stock and master clear to troubleshoot. The problem isn't going to fix itself.

Thanks for all the HELPFUL input
I will try flashing stock
This may be a common sense answer but usually when it doesnt swipe all the way accross for me its because of to much grease ( or sweat) on my hands or on the screen like after lengthy phone calls or if my hands are dirty or something. Try cleaning the screen well, and washing your hands and such. Always fixed for me.
by swipe do you mean it doesnt move at ALL or it goes half way or you cant get it all the way to the other side to answer?
Yeah, i know that when i first turn on my phone and try swiping, nothing will happen, it will just stay green and not respond. After leaving my phone on for a couple of minutes, it usually corrects itself.
This is also a common problem for stock users wanting to use a lockscreen replacement (i.e. widgetlocker).
If you try using widgetlocker without any lagfix, you can get phone call screens you can't interact with for a few seconds.
I have had a similar issue both stock and rommed. I find a lot of time it does have something to do with friction on the screen but also if I have low signal it will happen as well. My phone will actually freeze up to the point of having to remove the battery, this same thing happened on my old Samsung Blackjack II.

Hey XDA'ers. I need your help. I just bought a Captivate today from someone, and I realized (once I got home) that the phone would never let me advance from the "slide up to unlock" screen. I tried everything, and it won't unlock. The only way to actually get into the phone is by rebooting it and swiping up (like to unlock it normally) as soon as you can. If you lock and attempt to unlock it after that, it does nothing.
I unrooted the phone, did a soft factory reset (retaining 2.2 Froyo), a hard factory reset, and even did an Odin3 reset (back to 2.1), to no avail.
Is there anything I can do, or is this phone beyond help?
Thanks!
You should not longer have a "slide up to unlock" if you oden-ed back to stock AT&T 2.1. Stock 2.1 only had one unlock screen and it was the sliding glass. Or, is this what you had and it still wouldn't unlock?
Sent from my Cappy.
Yeah, it's the standard "sliding glass to unlock" screen.
I just rememebered that a similar thing happens when I am done with a phone call. It takes a good 10-15 seconds for my phone to register that yes, I am done with the phone call, and yes, I should be allowed to select "end call" after I'm done.
Anyway, it's all very frustrating having a phone that is usable only after a reboot (the slide to unlock screen actually does unlock only at this point.) Any ideas?
Any help here? http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/screen-lock-suppressor_mqhk.html

This is more of a workaround as opposed to a fix, but if it works, then our friend here won't have to reboot every time the phone locks.
Just curious, did your seller say anything about the phone doing this?

Well, I was able to just exchange the phone at an AT&T help center for free, without any problems.
And the guy I bought it from said that it had "no hardware issues." And what a lie that was. He wouldn't even answer my phone calls after I figured out that it didn't work. BUT, it all worked out for the best.
I've searched the note forum praying for at least one other person to have this issue, there seem to be none. I am really worried.
Sometimes, after a phone call, the 'back' and 'menu' buttons become inactive, as in they don't respond. They light up when you touch the screen, but they don't respond at all. It started happening about a month after I bought the phone. Initially I thought it was a bug from some ROM. I've done several factory resets and flashed new ROMs. The problem doesn't seem to go away. I don't know what to do.
I have to reboot every time this happens, but then it only stays till I get/make a phone call. It doesn't always happen after the first phone call. Sometimes it happens after the second, third etc. But it always happens. Please help.
Thank you for helping me.
You are not alone... happens to me every now and then. Reboot is the only option...

same here since i got the phone with the stock rom, have tried a few custom rom, problem still remains
sorry wrong post ignore
It is very very annoying. I wanted to know if its a hardware issue or a software issue. Rebooting every time after a couple of phone calls is simply unacceptable. If only a very few people have this problem, its probably a hardware issue.
I really want to find a solution. I've grown really fond of the phone, and I don't want to sell it.
