Nexus - Proxy Settings - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Does anyone know if the Proxy Settings get used by Nexus One ( or Android 2.1 in general ). My Intention was to capture packets being sent from the phone while on wifi. A quick search on google and i found out how i could set the proxy settings by editing the settings database (Still no Android functionality to do this)
Code:
adb pull /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db newestSettings.db
sqlite newestSettings.db
sqlite> INSERT INTO secure VALUES(99,'http_proxy','HOST:PORT');
adb push newestSettings.db /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
adb reboot
Replacing HOST and PORT with my proxy server settings and it doesn't appear to do anything, the browser still uses the default settings and not the proxy ones.
Does anyone know how to set these setting correctly or another way to catch the packets being sent from the phone?

Proxy on/off

Is there any tool to turn off proxy setting easily without having to re-enter proxy setting?
Is this for the at&t network? If so you can leave the proxy un-checked in your connection profile and use the proxy manager cabs instead.
Anyone with a cab for tmobileweb proxy manager
Hi
I am using Vp3G's 3.63 rom on TMobile Usa and I can browse the web using the proxy but can only use the mail auto fetch settings without the proxy settings.
Is there a way to manage proxy settings without having to manually enter settings every time.?

AT&T Tilt won't connect to GPRShttp://forum.xda-developers.com/newthread.php?do=newth
I've been having problems getting my unlocked AT&T Tilt to connect to T-Mobile's GPRS data network. I've done the necessary connections setups, including entering the proxy server settings (216.155.165.050:8080, etc) as well as running the disablehiddenproxy .cab in the Windows folder, but it just won't connect. And, when it appears to have connected, I can't access any websites. Every attempt simply ends up with an error message with something like 0x8008000. Google Maps won't work either, so the issue isn't limited to PIE.
I've entered the same settings on multiple phones in the past, including two HTC phones (Dash and Wing), so I know I didn't mess up on any obvious settings. I don't know what could be wrong. Has anyone experienced this before, and if so, what did you do to fix it?
Thanks.
Anyone? So far still no dice. WiFi works, though, which I guess is something...
EDIT: Nevermind, I think I got it. Apparently I needed to clear the SOCKS proxy setting. It's news to me, as I didn't need to do that before on either the Dash or the Wing.
Anyway, if anyone else is having the same problem, here are the instructions (specific to the proxy settings) I found and followed to get it working:
Go to set up proxy server
Check box that says “this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet”
In the proxy server type 216.155.165.50 (you might want to highlight and copy because you will be using this setting 3 more times)
Tap advanced
Tap HTTP (if the server is not filled out paste the proxy settings in the step above in the server box) and change port from 80 to 8080 then hit ok.
Tap WAP and paste or type the same proxy server (216.155.165.50). The port should automatically say 9201. Leave this as is, then hit ok
Tap secure wap and paste or type in the server settings from the last 2 steps. The port should say 9203. Leave as is as well and hit ok
Tap Socks and clear the server setting. The port should go away. Hit ok, and you're done.

[Q] WiFi/Proxy Error with broswer and widgets

Hi
I've unnistaled some apps and I'm having a strange issue: I'm WiFi connected and my apps that need a connection work perfectly, but the browser and the widgets get an connection error. I discovered that the proxy was set to 127.0.0.1 and port 0 so I'v cleared these values and saved them and the widgets and browser work fine for about 15 minutes. After that they get the connection error again and I discover that proxy has been set again to 127.0.0.1 and port 0. Can someone help me please.
thx
which proxy program are you using?
I'm not using any app. I go to setting>wireless >wifi settings>advance and clear the values in proxy and port, but after a few minutes the values are back and the widgets and the browser get a connection error.
thx for the reply
i'm using proxy software called autoproxy & ProxyDroid ~ Less Headache (required root)

twc app. port forwarding

I copied and posted my original post via the nexus thread. i thought i'd repost it here since i'm guessing some of the other note users may have done this too. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Please note that I got the app to work with my stock rooted rom. Now i'm just trying to get it to work on any wifi network as opposed to just my home wifi network.

1. Install CopSSH for Windows from here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sere...r.zip/download
2. Extract the .exe file from .zip file and run the setup. During the setup, you will be prompted for a username and password, make sure you specify this and make it something you can remember (you will need it later).
3. Activate a user by going to Start->All Programs->CopSSH->1. Activate a User. Select the user you just setup in step 2.
4. Type in and confirm a passphrase (make sure you remember this). Then click activate.
5. Now you need to allow an port exception through your Windows Firewall. Standard SSH port is port 22, so that's what I used. You can do this by going to your control panel, selecting Windows Firewall, and click "allow a program through Windows Firewall."
6. Select Add port...name it SSH and enter port 22.
7. Click change scope...and make sure the radio button that says "Any computer (including those on the Internet) is selected. Click OK.
8. Now we need to setup port-forwarding to your router. To do this you need to know how to access your router, your WAN IP address, and your LAN IP Address assigned by your router.
9. To find out your LAN IP address, open a command prompt and type in "ipconfig -all". Typically, it will begin with 192.168 unless you have modified your LAN settings. To find your WAN IP address settings, google "what is my IP address?" There are a number of sites that can tell you that.
10. To access your router, you need to find it's IP address, which is usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1; you will know by entering one of those addresses in your browser and it will prompt you for your login info. If you don't know your user name and password, I can't help you there but Google may be able to (try to look-up the default username and password for your router model).
11. Once logged in, find your "virtual server" or "port forwarding" settings, specify port 22 - 22 for the start and end range, and route it to the LAN IP address you found in step 9. Save your settings and exit your browser.
12. If you've made it this far, your SSH service and port forwarding settings are done; now you just need to log into it. Download SSH Tunnel from the Google Play Store.
13. When you open it up, it will ask you for a number of settings. I have listed them below and what you need to enter in each textbox:
- Host Name: Enter your WAN IP address that you discovered in step 9.
- Port: Enter "22"
- Username: Enter your username you specified in CopSSH
- Password: Enter your password you specified in CopSSH
14. Make sure the following options are checked:
- Use socks proxy
- Global proxy
15. That's it! Now scroll to the top of the app and check the first checkbox labeled "tunnel switch" and it should connect you.
Please keep in mind that you need to be logged into a wifi connection, but it doesn't have to be your home wifi connection!
DON'T forget the thanks button!
Lkrfn5283:Thank you for this post. I'm unsure what i'm doing wrong but i went over the instructions and made sure i did everything correctly, but it keeps saying "error: cannot connect to host" I'm using a tmobile galaxy note with a stock rooted ics rom. This write up should apply to any phone with an ics based rooted rom correct? any help would greatly be appreciated as i'm completely lost on what i did wrong.
*note: on step 11 it shows two areas where you can enter the IP address and start port/end port. One is labeled "internal" and the other is labeled "external". On the internal i input my WAN IP and ports starting and ending in 22. On the external I input the remote address and the local port/remote port as the starting and ending ports given by the sshtunnel app.
