Nexus overclocked but no wifi???? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I followed all the steps and overclocked my nexus one. I'm running AT&T on edge tho so i live for wifi. After I overclocked it and tried to turn on wifi I would get an error saying that wifi was unable to start. I wiped flashed the most recent and stable cyanogenmod and wifi worked. I overclocked again and again no wifi. And trust me guys i followed the instructions exactly, I keep hearing that pushing the .ko file could be the reason but I definatly did that each time! Sooo....help?

Push the .ko file again

which kernel are you using? I can confirm that wifi works with this (http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=70) kernel on cm 5.0.5.3. Simply grab one of the two:
boot-cm_2633.2-oc-uv-ram.zip
boot-cm_2633.2-oc-uv-xtra-ram.zip
...plop it on your sd root and flash from recovery.

thank you soooooo much! the new kernel worked perfectly i didnt even have to push the .ko file or anything. thanks a million dude!

Well, Chris, first you have to make sure you are using an Android. Also, @Drorbecker might release an update with fixes. If it doesn't work at first try rebooting and reinstall. It took me three times, but it finally works!

Dunno, I clucked it and it said pull your battery so I pulled it and then I just rebooted as normal.
Didnt change my life.
I don't understand the point of this app either. I don't have to do anything on my G1 to get ADB to work other than plug it into my PC's USB and not mount the SD card.
In theory (havent used it yet): it will allow you to run any adb command directly on your phone. Allows you to remount and push files from your sdcard to the /system and /data partition easily. Look at the system log using logcat and pull files from your /system and /data partition.
However, if you are using a root file manager (Root File Manager or SUFBS), such as myself, its not necessarily needed.
Thanks anyways, great step forward in development!
I'm guessing you need a rooted phone to use this though, right?

What firmware are you running and what OS does your computer have?????
I had the same trouble too but it finally worked for me.
Im running the newest SuperD on my G1, and Vista on my computer.
This is about the most pointless application I've ever seen.
adb server runs on the phone when you enable Settings --> Applications --> Development --> USB debugging.
adb client runs on your computer and is used for transferring debugging data between the phone and your debugging system.
adb client has NO PLACE AT ALL on the phone itself. There is NOT a SINGLE THING that it can do that you can't just as easily (easier actually) do from the TERMINAL.

[HOW TO]Easy Way to change Framework to Add Battery %

I have tested this with DHD builds only but I'm sure it works with any build as long as you have adb intsalled.
1st. Download and unzip the attached file
2nd. Add the Framework-res.apk of your choice to the extracted folder
3rd. Plug your phone into your computer with USB debug on and Charge only selected.
4th. Click Change framework in the folder that you extracted and added the framework to.
This will cause your phone to reboot. Now you will have to re-enter your Google and HTC accounts.

hey thank you I'm gonna use this next time I change the file. Probably I will still have to make it bootloop...
It's funny cause I've tried everything that suppopsedly works for everyone else, such as copying and pasting with root explorer, or using droid explorer but it won't connect properly. Then to top it all off adb push can't push unless its bootlooping. I feel like I just can't win sometimes...

Hey this worked perfectly. But I just flashed to a different ROM too. On the other build I was using I issued the same adb commands in the prompt and definately got completely different results. Thanks for this tool.
Edit:
Your tool works about half of the time, but its not its fault. adb works for me only about half the time. But for some reason now I get millions of FCs after I replace framework-res.apk.

[Q] Cifs in StreakDroid7

I've read some comments that Cifs was supported in StreakDroid7, has anyone else had success with this? I get "No such device" no matter how I configure CifsManager. Any help would be appreciated.
Can someone please just confirm or deny that cifs support is present? Thanks.
*bump*
Would like to know that as well!
Last time I'll bump this in hopes of getting a response
Yes there is, However ONLY on a custom Rom, I use the rom here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008650
Or you can use Streakdroid 1.3 for it. The stock roms doesnt have the support even after you root.

Thanks, I'll try it tonight. Looks like the original link is dead but I found the same rom hosted here: http://www.4shared.com/get/Qa1xh6Iz/djsteve336.html in case anyone else in interested.
Yea Hellzya should update it. Also the rom you posted is the better one, beats streakdroid too for now, since BT works and the Quadrant score passes 2000, which is damn good for these 3d games.
Btw.. if you get cifs to work fully.. let me know.. Ive been trying to but keep getting stuck on the mounting point thing. Trying to share my ntfs folders.

Flashed the rom but I'm still getting "No such device" from CifsManager which indicates the kernel does not support cifs. Have you actually seen Cifs work on either this rom or StreakDroid? If so, was it with CifsManger or another app?
Ok when I am in the program, in menu - settings, It does show I have insmod and cifs module.
Now one thing I do NOT remember. I rem ORIG I didnt have this, which I think I flashed to StreakDroid when it came out which added cifs support.
Just checked my system files, seems I am right. Djsteve366 doesnt have the cifs.ko file we need. I rem making a post about that one time to get the files, was no luck.
Try Streakdroid 1.3 to see if that works for you. (If it doesnt you can flash back without formatting to the djsteve366 which is better for Quadrant performance and bluetooth works)
Well I guess I'm back where I started then. Cifs not working in streakdroid was my original post.
Yea im trying to look at this too. I know SMB can work with AndSMB but that requires you to setup a SMB server in windows. Got that to connect at least tho.
What we need to do is compile it seems.. rather annoying. Im trying to get the file too. Since yea, I too had read streakdroid supported it.

[L5] **** Guide for running CM10.1/CM10.2/CM11 on the Canadian E617G ****

The LG L5 E617G variant can certainly be rooted, have an unlocked bootloader, as well as run CyanogenMod. The Bell variant can use a custom kernel.
Firstly:
- Root the device using the guide in this thread.
- Verify that you have a SuperUser app installed, and you're able to achieve root status. The best way to check is by downloading SuperSU, and updating the binaries.
Secondly:
- Unlock the bootloader by downloading emmc_appsboot_617_truncated.zip in this thread. (Thanks Skellums!)
- Turn on USB Debugging in Developer Options, (if you can't see Developer Options in the settings menu, continuously tap on Build Number in About in Settings).
- When you plug in your device, if you have an SDCard, you should see two storage spaces within the LG L5 MTP. Place the bootloader file in root of the phone storage (which the devices sees as the SDCard). The actual SDCard is the external SDCard which ADB has trouble seeing on occasion.
- Plug in your device to the PC, and make sure its loaded into Android.
- Download the fastboot/adb files here, and extract them to C:/fastboot/. Open the command prompt in windows, and type:
Code:
cd C:/fastboot
then...
Code:
adb devices
...and make sure you see your device, then...
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 of=/sdcard/emmc_appsboot-backup.bin
dd if=/sdcard/emmc_appsboot_617_truncated.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5
reboot
- Now, you should have an unlocked bootloader. If you get any "file not found errors", you placed the emmc file in the wrong directory
Thirdly:
- You now need a recovery, so let your phone reboot, and when its back to the main screen, make sure the device is plugged in, open the command prompt, and follow the instructions here.
Fourthly:
- Any CyanogenMod works very nicely on the L5 E617G. You can get CM10.1 along with gapps here or CM10.2 here or the amazing CM11 here. Before heading back to recovery, you will need the CM10.1 ROM, GAPPS, v20 BaseBand, and WakeWithHomeAndPower_signed.zip (Optional) and v10 Baseband (For restore purposes if something goes wrong).
- Copy all those zips to the root of your external SD, and then run the command:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
- Before anything, create a NANDROID BACKUP! Make sure to backup to the external SD, as you probably would have more space to work with.
- Then, factory reset your device in recovery. You can now flash CM10.1, by choosing "install zip from external sd card". Flash the v20 baseband, then the ROM, then gapps, then the wake with home fix.
Done!
- Upon reboot, you should have CM working very well on your LG L5 E617G!
Note: You can also get to recovery with the L5 but holding down Vol Down and Home, while pressing the power button for 2 seconds.
Disclaimer: I wrote this article because I, myself, had quite the experience in getting CM10.1 running on this L5 variant, and I wanted to show that it's certainly possible, thanks to the hard work by all the devs here! Good luck!
Thank you, good sir! I have now installed CM10.1!
I ended up running the recovery twice - after the first time, during the reboot, it just hung at the LG logo so I turned it off and back on and then repeated the recovery install steps and it was fine after the second time (now that I think about it I should've just tried issuing the "adb reboot recovery" command again instead).
Phone definitely much snappier and I haven't had any problems so far! Thank you again!
It's been a couple of days now and all seems to be running smoothly!
The only issue I have with CM on my L5 is that the video seems to cause issues - it'll work the first time but then hangs afterwards and subsequent attempts just give an error. Rebooting is the only cure. Not a huge deal for me though.
The rest of the phone runs great, definitely smoother and snappier than stock.
Now my camera/video recording is working just fine today. Go figure.
Loving the speed vs the stock stuff!

I've noticed the same thing. Once and a while, the video camera will freeze, and then force close. Reopening it causes "Gallery has stopped.". It's really finicky, but a reboot usually does the trick. Not sure if it's a ROM issue or a E617G issue, but you're not alone!
Pictures seem fine, I would suggest staying away from the video recording for now.

I seem to recall having these issues a long time ago with the stock ROM too, now that I think about it. Not a big deal for me, easier to just avoid using the video camera.

Thank you, good sir! I have now installed CM10.1
I've installed beta 6 and now the video is working just fine (no hangs!).
I did find that I wasn't able to boot into recovery - I had to reflash recovery from ROM Manager.
I then tried to flash the custom OC kernel and that resulted in a blank screen, so back into recovery and reflash beta 6 again.
So I've lost the overclock but meh, I'm ok with waiting for an updated kernel.
New kernel was posted, I've flashed and it works - OC is back! :good:

Unable to edit build.prop with rooted phone

Hello everybody,
I'm new to the forum and not that of a newbie concerning Android but since I've updated to Marshmallow on my Nexus 6 I cannot edit the build.prop, even if I'm root.
I already tried a lot of things, since now I used ES File Explorer to edit the file, but now when I want to save it it doesn't work that message appears "Error occurred when trying to save the file. It will not be saved.". So I say ok I'll try using a Build Prop Editor App, it requests root access, I allow it, then fails.
So after many tries I try to completely reinstall the system a second time, thinking maybe there was something I did wrong the first time I installed and rooted, I installed a root checker, it said my phone was correctly rooted, so I try again with ES File Explorer (With root explorer enabled) still the same problem.
Then I find a tutorial on how to get the build.prop via adb shell, which I try, and I have a message saying "Read only File system", so I try to remount but it still the same problem.
Just for the info, the first time I installed Marshmallow and rooted was with a guide on "theandroidsoul" (sory I can't post links since I'm new). And the second time was with the one on ibtimes.
It might not be useful but I tried two different kernels so it might give you some extra info.
Could someone please help me ? I hope I gave you enough information and sorry if I made mistakes, English is not my native language.
Thank you very much for your help.

neither of those are stock, stock is stock... Stock based maybe...
I don't know that all kernels have it sorted yet. I haven't really looked over which ones do, but it seems like it ended up taking a few extra tweaks that everyone is sorting.
Benzino was the first I head people having success with, and I want to say I have heard hells core was working too. If you just want to make it work, my best advice would be to reboot to bootloader, reflash boot.img, immediately boot to recovery (either the volume rockers, or just fastboot reboot recovery should work). then flash Benzino. I can at least tell you is should work there. Dirty flashing kernel may have issue with ramdisk modifications clashing (I don't really know much about this, but its usually recommended not to flash one kernel over another). Once things are settled in a little more, go back to your old favorite kernel?

Meh.
If there are no problems there are no problems
If things start going wrong... maybe look there first. I don't know too much about what can and can't happen dirty flashing kernels, so I wont say too much... I just know its not normally recommended, but I've seen plenty of people do it and not have major issues anyways. I think its the kind of thing where if one dev did things one way, and another the other... you don't clear them out and the clash.... I'd just be happy with what works
