live walls and apps2 sd quest? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

when you are running apps2 sd and download and run live walls do the wallpapers save to your system or sd? also do the run off your sd or tranfer to system and run?

i haven't specifically tested installing one from the market but i moved an existing one from /data/app to /sd-ext/data/app and it comes up in the livewallpaper selection after rebooting.
no speed issues but i assumed it copied the active wallpaper to memory anyway/?

have the Seeds Live wallpaper and its there in the wallpaper selector when I switch from Cy's ROM to Enom's ROM. Vice Versa.

Apps on SD not accessible

I'm thinking that I may have a bad SD card in my N1.
Current setup:
[email protected] [v2.8] MCR r19 MOD [FRF83]
Old style A2SD+
After a little while, in this case an hour or so, any app that is installed/moved to the SD card become inaccessible. The OS sees the app, sort of. Most of the time the link to an app disappears all together. Sometime there will still be a link to an app, but when I try to launch it, it says the app is no longer installed. I'll go into the app manager(settings, application, manage) and apps that were installed/moved to the SD card just show a generic SD card icon and I can't get any info for the app. I try restarting/force stopping the launcher (both LauncherPro and ADW) and sometime the apps will show up again and will work, sometime the icon will show but will not launch, and sometime the app are still gone. And eventually, I will not be able to see the SD card when hooked to my computer. On the flip side though, if I boot into recovery(RA 1.0.7), I can turn on USB-MS Toggle and I can copy to and from the SD card all I want.
I just a full wipe(factory reset, cache, dalvik, ext, battery, rotate) because I was having these problems before, and I was using the regular Froyo A2SD before, so I decided to us the old style A2SD+ this time to see if that fixed the problem, but it's still happening.
Again, I'm thinking bad SD card, but I'd like some other opinions/ideas/confirmations.
So no one has any thoughts on this?

[Q] Workaround for more paper icons?

I've been using adw with the "paperless theme" recently and love it (look it up).
It includes a bunch of icons for common apps to make them fit in with the hand drawn theme. Unfortunately, on my hero a lot of them dont work, probably due to sense customisations and replacements. End result is a mixture of awesome paperness and the normal icons, bleh.
I want to download the apk for the theme so that I can open it up, get the icon files out and then use bettercut or something to apply them to shortcuts of my choosing. Only problem is, I can't work out how to get hold of the apk. I can't find it outside of the market, and once installed it doesn't show up in File Manager's apps list, so I can't copy it to SD.
Is there a way of retreiving it from the phone? Or 'intercepting' the market link and directly downloading the apk to SD instead? I've read about a solution using adb to get the apk off the phone but since my trusty hero won't connect over usb any more, that's not an option.
Any ideas?

If your usb doesn't work anymore use the wireless adb... pretty sure its on the market still. Get root explorer and check in system/app you'll find your apks there copy and paste them to your sd card.
here you go

I can't get LPP to find these. I downloaded them and unpacked them to my sd card, but when I go to choose my dock in "custom" it routes me to my gallery. I tried putting the file in the gallery and it wouldnt show up. I even converted the file from .png to .jpg to see if it would show up and it didn't. How do I do this? TIA
Nice. Ill try them out soon

Try this: unmount then remount your sd card or reboot. Those are about the only two ways I've found to"refresh" the sd card listings of photos.
Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Froyo on Hero action here!

When you use custom it takes you to the gallery, I use the Launcherpro Icons and docks app from the market (not free) and create a sub-folder for docks (and icons) not available through that program. They show up in the gallery in whatever folder name I have for them.
The benefit for me is that once I finish modding launcher pro I can use that program to quickly and easily hide the icons/docks from the gallery.
Hope that helps.
EDIT: and what user7618 says

.andriod_secure on the external_sd card

Does anyone know how to prevent the SGS from placing the .andriod_secure on the external_sd as it makes LauncherPro load significantly longer depending on the content of the folder, Im under the impression that nothing should be written by the phone/OS on the external_sd card w/o my permission/total control.
I do not know how to make it not save in the external sd but for the slowness of launcherPro, I think you should change your wallpaper in case you are using a heavy live wallpaper. I had the same slowness when I was using the aquarium live wallpaper.

By slowness i mean it takes longer for LP to respond from boot if the .andriod_secure has lots of contents, sometimes I need to manually close LP to have it load properly, Ive tested this bug several times and ive proven its caused by that folder.. gonna try and move the folder to the internal_sd and also have a copy of it on the external_sd with write protect.
EDIT:
After some time some apps really go back and writes some files to the external_sd .andriod_secure.. this is annoying!

Cyanagonmod7 widget problem

Hi,
I have a problem with cyangonmod7 on the motorola milestone. I downloaded apps like battery gauge and sense clock widget or any widget for that matter and when I try to add the widget onto the screen, the widget does not show. Any program that is downloaded and has a widget does not show up under the add widgets option. Is there a fix to this?
Thanks.
Are the apps installed on your external SD card, sometimes widgets will not load if the app is not installed on the phone, rather than the sd card. Don't know if this applies to milestone though.
when using cyanogen mod always keep the widgets stored on the phone so that the widgets can load and be visible for you. Storing widgets on the sd cars when using cyanogen mod 7 will cause the widgets not to load mate
hope this helps
You can choice another Version and update again
Move your widget app in to phone memory, may it can help
lol it time too change phone
So so sorry but it's cool
