[OPEN SOURCE] Covedesign Dev (Light Controller) - Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps

We on Covedesign have developed a program that can controll the different lights on your HTC Hero (Trackball, Buttons etc.) and have released it as open source. It require root access.
Does not work on CDMA Hero.

Thanks. We are currently not planing to develop this application any further, however feel free to use the open source code to develop your own applications where such a feature exists. The reason we developed this is to show the community how to do this, the rest is up you guys.

Updated [Dev][App] NoLitez 1.0.28 Dec 17 2008

UPDATE: Dec 17, 2008
older versions are no longer available here, the latest version is in the market under the developer name "snctln"
let me know if you have any problems with it

so I decided not to abandon development, competition is a good thing, right? and I am going to update the first post with a new build... in this new build there are a lot of improvements
- all 50 levels from the classic lights out, before it only had the first 5
- after level 50 new levels are randomly generated... I believe there are more than 8000 solvable
- added a hint engine... press the menu key and select the "Show Hints" and you will see a small red dot on the keys that you need to press in order to complete the puzzle, updates in real time, you can turn off this feature if you want by going back to the menu and selecting "Hide Hints"
- the state of the application is saved across instances... this way you can continue a game even if you restart your phone
any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
My main question is this: Does this app feel the like it is the sae quality as other apps on the Market? Or does it seem cheap and too simple?

(mods: if this is not the correct forum to post development of an android app please feel free to move the post or tell me where to move it to)
So I put up a thread a week or 2 ago requesting android app ideas and at first it seemed that games were in demand, so I started working on a simple game...
NoLitez is a simple game that take inspiration from the old simple handheld video game "Lights Out", (wikipedia link)
basically the idea of the game is that all spaces in the gird can either be turned on or off... the goal is to get all of the lights off. When you touch a light, you toggle the state of that light and the 4 lights immediately north, south, east and west of the light
I ran the apk using the latest android for titan build and it worked as I would expect.
So now I am curious if any G1 owners want to be a beta tester for me and tell me if this apk even works for them, and if so what they think of the game.
I only have very basic features implemented, and only the first 5 levels...
This would count as my first android application so please go easy on the criticism, but I am open to hearing all things good and bad
thanks for any feedback
i tried it out, good game. No crashes or hangs, works as described

cool, thanks for the feedback
Nice. Clean interface and classic gameplay. I remember when they advertised these things on television in the '90s.
On a side note, how's Android running on TyTN? There's not a week goes by that there isn't a new device Android is running on, but it seems that most of the devices still need some spit polish.

well I have a Titan rather than a TyTN (PPC6800, CDMA device, aka Sprint Mogul vs P4500 GSM aka AT&T 8525 here in the states) [but they do seem to be named the same]... and I have to say that android doesn't run too well on it, I have been able to get android up and running on it since July thanks to dzo's vogue releases but even with the latest editions the touchscreen doesn't work quite right and the button mappings aren't very intuitive to me... maybe I just need to give it more than 5 minutes, but my plan is to buy a Android Dev 1 or some unannounced 2009 android phone so I shouldn't have to rely on testing on an unsupported QVGA device... but I just got laid off last Friday, so it could be a while until I have a proper android device to develop with
Works like a charm, no bugs at all and a pretty fun game! Do you mind if i throw it in my g1 files in my sig?

I am glad that you are enjoying it, it is not a problem to put the apk up in your directory, I have a few more things that I want to do before I make a proper release in the android market, but I have a few questions and I am not sure if this is the proper place to ask them
1.) Does this application behave as you would expect it to as far as saving and restoring its state? Like if you get a phone call or have to leave the app for some reason when you restore the app does it save the lights on/lights off state? Does it at least behave as you would expect it to when compared to other G1 apps?
2.) I am not fully sure if this application would be allowed in the market because Tiger electronics has the "Lights Out" game patented... does anyone know if any other game "clones" exist on the market like say a tetris clone?
thanks again for the feedback
There's an app on the Market called 'Lights Out" already...? Seems to be the same game? Not sure who developed it though.

wow... you are correct, this exact same game already exists for android and I had no idea. Looks like I am going to abandon development unless someone thinks it is good to have diversity in the market, since I don't have a G1 there really is no way for me to test to see the differences that may exist...
I enjoyed putting this together, but I wish there was some way to browse the titles available on the market other than directly from a G1, that way I would have known to work on something different. (and after a quick search my second game that I was planning on making "4NARow" (a connect 4 clone) is already on the market too...
maybe if I pay the $25 and register as an android developer I can see the different apps available in the market?

"cupcake" development branch
A link to this was posted on the G1-Hackers mailing list. I haven't seen it here yet so I figured I would share. You can find the original post at http://source.android.com/roadmap/cupcake.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"cupcake" development branch
From http://source.android.com/roadmap:
During Android's transition to anopen-source project, some development has continued to happen in aprivate branch. We are working to move the rest of these changes intothe open as soon as possible, and all future open-source work willhappen in the public git repositories. All changes that have alreadybeen submitted to the public repositories will be merged into the newercode base, so nothing should be lost.
The Android team has begun pushing these changes to the public git repositories, in the "cupcake" branch.
About this code drop:
The "cupcake" branch is a read-only mirror of the private Android branch.cupcake is still very much a work in progress. It is a development branch, not a release.
Thefirst drop is a large roll-up commit of all of the changes sincerelease-1.0. We will transition to regular, smaller roll-up drops, ultimately pushing individual commits. The cupcake branch willbe merged into the master branch, so that all of the public patches canbe used with the new code base. None of the commits in the publicrepositories will be lost, unless they no longer make sense or areobsoleted by the new code base. Due to the United States' holidayseason, though, this may not be finished until early January.
To check out the cupcake branch:mkdir cupcake # create a new client directory
cd cupcake
repo init -u git:/android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git -b cupcake
repo sync

Remove automatic accounts setup entries that were broken or nottestable. Minor fixes to a few of the remaining entries. Improvementsto warning dialogs used for a few special cases.
New accounts are now set to check every 15 minutes (instead of defaulting to "never").
Fixed a bug causing approximately 1 in 25 outbound messages to freezeup the IMAP connection (to a Gmail based server) when transferred tothe Sent folder. This broke the entire connection so new messagescould not be downloaded either.
Unit test framework so Email can be extended & tested more reliably.
Fix IMAP manually-created accounts so message delete works properly.
Alarm Clock
Significant bug fixes
Alert now plays audio/vibe directly, rather than through AlarmManager.AlarmClock alert starts playing audio/vibe in its IntentReceiver, rather than on activity start. These changes should prevent alarms frombeing blocked by modal dialogs.

"Show dialpad" / "Hide dialpad" item added to the in-call menu, to make it easier to discover the DTMF dialpad.
Significant bug fixes
An obscure case where the Phone UI could cause the device to not go tosleep on its own. This would happen if user bails out of the in-callscreen by hitting HOME, followed by the call disconnecting remotely. Don't allow a single tap to open the in-call dialpad. Itis now required to touch and drag it. This makes it much harder toaccidentally open the dialpad by touching the screen with your face.
Developer Tools
New features
Enable handset manufacturers to extend the Android SDK with add-ons. SDK add-ons will include:
systemlibraries to let developers use additional APIs provided by handsetmanufacturers or from other 3rd party vendors that handsetmanufacturers chose to include

We are talking about Android source code here. It would need to be compiled appropriately to even flash to any phone. Your phone would still subject it to the same key test before it will flash it. So, No this won't work... Yet. Hopefully we will find a way to sign these images with the OTA keys instead of just test keys as we do now.
"Chicken Soups for Andy Phones"
Yes, I am aware of you should compile it first.
So you are saying, since it is not officially signed by google, you'll be able to install it only on dev or has-proper-boot-image phones?
wait, how do we get all these updates in the future though? sdk?
also what you mean as finding a way to sign these images with ota keys instead of just test key? meaning with jf's mod rc30 we could get these update?
hbguy
man, well these were a few of the things that i wanted to see changed its good that they are keeping in touch with the ppl runnin the app. this is very compelling information. can i suggest and addendum to the title, something alluding to the "update" nature of this dev team. i dont think theres a date, but ill def be willing to pick a G1 back up for that, esp if they managed to make a few of the processes faster.

I haven't had a chance to look into it too much but, depending on the applications and files made accessible, this looks very promising. Things like the autorotating browser, maybe even skinning, could potentially be "legitimized" and no longer require root.
so how would one go about compiling to run on the dream?

Right now...... You wait. There isn't 100% of the code here. Nothing specific to the dream hardware etc. I am hopeful we will be seeing things come soon though.
As far as what I meant about the keys... Right now in order to be able to flash an update that is signed with test keys, aka the keys we have right now, you need to use an exploit to gain root access and modify the keys the system looks for when updating. There are two possible ways that I see to get OTA RC30 flashed with with an unofficial image. The first way is for some ingenious person to find an exploit that can be used to obtain root again and therefore be able to change the keys the system looks for. The other option would be for someone to come up with a way to sign the image with the OTA keys.

This was not "undercover" work. Google wanted to be able to work on stuff, yet release the G1 with a semi-stable firmware.

This won't be the case. This is an official Google release, meaning when they merge them together in January, they will release an OTA update with all of these features.
I'm hoping there will be an OTA update with all these new goodies, but just because google is rolling "cupcake" into the open-source project, that does not mean that it will get rolled out to our G1's. That's up to T-Mobile and HTC. Let's just keep our fingers crossed.
Ok, maybe I'm missing something, but where are people getting the idea that this is not dream specific? From how I read it these are all things that are being built into the main source and as such will be compiled as an ota as other updates have been done in the past. Someone enlighten me here as I'm just not seeing the "specific" requirements people are putting on this? I'm no coder, but it doesn't look like anything more then just enabling what was already there or planned on being there. [/rant?]

Everything in the open source repository should be non-device specific (with the obvious exception of stuff like binary drivers). The repo will build an emulator image. To build for dream, there are some additional instructions. However the cupcake branch cannot be built for Dream at this time, so it is definitely not Dream-specific.

The differences between G1 and the repo extend beyond just Google-proprietary apps. There are subtle differences in the framework too.

[APP] BraviaControl: Control your Sony Bravia Smart TV

Download from the Store.
I purchased a Sony Bravia KDL-40EX525 a few months ago and noticed that there were official remote control apps for Android and iPhone from Sony but, unfortunatelly, not for WP7 (not even an unofficial one). Since I own a LG Optimus 7 I got curious about this and started to develop something similar for myself, specifically because I hate using the stock remote control to enter text.
I based my work on this blog post http://blogs.msdn.com/b/andypennell...ws-phone-7-5-mango-part-1-ssdp-discovery.aspx. Many thanks to Andy Pennell for that, his post was really helpful and a great starting point.
The app requires you to be on the same network as the TV.
If you want to try this make sure the TV is ON (give it time to initialize the services. It cannot be turned on/off with this app because it has to talk to the IRCC service that is only available when the device is ON). See the screen of your TV the first time you run the app because it requires that you register your device in order to be able to iterate.
I appreciate your feedbacks, suggestions, bug report or questions that you may have.
Tested on models:

Are you maybe willing to share the source code of the app?
Or do you want to check why it's not working?
Thanks!

Hey there,
I've been researching a little bit about it before. It looks like Sony changed completely the way to remote control in latest models, specially W series. No documentation about that. So, the only way to try to discover how it works now, is to have a W series to try with (which I do not have)
Sorry about that.
What you can do is try to discover how the new service works by yourself, so we can expand the compatibility of the App. If you are interested, I can guide you with some clues, tools and techinches I used in the past to do so.
I may open the code, I haven't even considered it but I think it's a good idea.

I've been playing with our 2013 model a couple of days now, and it seems the controls still works (compatible with 2012) but the registration process is not necessary anymore...
Anyway, if you put the code somehwere, i'll try if it works somehow
thanks!

Sounds good, give me a couple of days to set it up and will let you know.
In the meantime, does your device description xml look like this one? http://www.upnp-database.info/device.jsp?deviceId=662 (See Description XML tab). If so, you may want to try ScalarWebAPI service on your modes. In that xml you can get some urls that will return some valuable (or not) information that may give you some clues.

I'm not sure you model actually supports to be remote controlled as it isn't event listed by sony as supported (see supported models above).
Does the app find your model? (be sure both are connected to the same lan)

Hey, sorry for the delay on sharing the code, I changed laptop and had to re-setup my dev env. Will try to have it done for the weekend.
In the meantime...I wonder what all this urls return:
http://192.168.1.54/sony/guide
http://192.168.1.54/sony/system
....
http://192.168.1.54/sony/irCommandProxy
Basically everything under <av:X_ScalarWebAPI_ServiceList> from dmr.xml. Actually, I would try any url available in that file
We should see where getRemoteCommandList api is located (together with other relevant APIs)
In previous models it was returned as a result from http://192.168.1.54/cers/ActionList.xml. It should be somewhere else now.
Also, did you confirmed that there is no registration required now at all?
Thanks!!!

Well, there basically 2 webservers/-services running.
One nginx on tcp:80, and something else on tcp:52323 (tcp header contains: Server=Linux/2.6 UPnP/1.0 KDL-42W655A/1.7)
actionlist is "gone", but i'm trying to capture network traffic from the official sony app to figure out the new location

This is all good. It would be great if we find the url that actually returns the list of APIs. Have you tried http://ip:80/sony/system to see what it returns in the browser?

just browsing to the "site" just gives an empty page...
it only reply's on json requests
all commands i've found so far are from capturing traffic from my android tablet
check here: http://mendelonline.be/sony/sony.txt
further, the "register" function exists, but it not really necesarry...
i noticed the sony tablet app registering, but i can just send commands from upnpspy directly from my pc without registering...
another thingy: wol is just basic wake on lan
I received an email from the creator of the windows app that works for our 2013 model bravia. (http://falcosoft.hu/softwares.html#sony_virtual_remote)
Hi,
I would like to share my experiences with you, maybe it can help in the
investigation of the new API structure.
1. The registered status is not required in 2011/12 Sony TV models either to
send pure IRCC SOAP messages (or use the X_SendIRCC UPnP service) .
2. The registered status is required to get meaningful response from url
based API functions (e.g sendText, getText, getRemoteCommandList etc..)
So just an idea: You should try to test these new URL based commands with a
registered status. To achieve this:
1. You should make a new registration and send these data with your browser
2. Use an existing registration e.g. Falcosoft's Sony Virtual Remote and
send the program's data with your browser.
I suggest to use Firefox with Modify Headers plugin. For option 2 here are
the required header fields:
'X-CERS-DEVICE-ID' -> 'vaio:11111111-D7A0-11DD-119C-6D990C3C4529' ;
'X-CERS-DEVICE-INFO' -> 'falco_virtual_remote' ;

Interesting fact that that app works for you. I think this is because that app uses some hardcoded data by default while BraviaControl completely relies on the APIs exposed by the services. It looks like some APIs where left there "hidden" for backward compatibility purposes. I think we should try something like: Cannot find the APIs?, try to force the use. In your case, it may partially (or completely, why not?) work.
Anyway, all that json conversation looks like to be the new way to comunicate with the TV, so, it will be nice to implement that sometime too.
Thanks! I have already set up the code in the cloud. Will be sending the details on how to access it soon (Sorry, I don't currently have very much time free for this project, so bear with me )

[Q] Why hasnt anyone messed with the special processors

Since active notifications uses the special coprocessor why hasn't someone found the code and created an API required for its use. Apps like Knock Notifactions and others that make custom notifications would greatly benefit from using this.
also stuff like daydream

[AutoBat]( Schedule Android Resources to Save Battery)

Hey Guys
I am creating new application for the android.
The purpose of application is to save battery by automating or scheduling services like WiFi , Mobile Data , Bluetooth , Brightness.
Its kind of similar to Tasker and Juice Defender but It will be very simple so that general public can use it. I Find Tasker and Juice defender are little tricky to configure. However geeks on XDA can do it easily.
So I need help of you creative guys for application name and logo for the app..)
( No time dead-line, If you think you can contribute in any way you can PM me or I will create thread in General section)
App will do following Task:
1.Enable and Disable or control Mobile data + WiFi + bluetooth+Brightness on specific time of the day for specific duration
2.Special Tweaks like Time out for WiFi ,Mobile Data etc ,Peroidic Connectivity etc
Thus Saving Battery and having you up to date with your emails ,whats app etc on your schedule time.
Also if you feature request just let me know. I could try to implement.
Just a question because I'm curious, is it going to be open source or closed source?

I had previous app for which code source was released on github.

Alright
Then I know. Looking forward to seeing the code once you have it uploaded about the name, the only advice I can give is to keep it simple so it's easy to remember.
How does name "AutoBat" sounds for battery saver app which automate network and system resources ?
