I recently received a nexus one replacement for my "dusty screen issue".
Now on my new phone that I've had for 2 days I'm having a weird Camera flash problem. Every time I take a picture the flash goes off before the camera takes the picture! So every picture is still really dark, even though the flash IS going off.
I tried doing a full "wipe" and "factory reset" using the bootloader and within the android settings menu. This did not work.
I also tried running the manual ERE27 android 2.0 Update-1 update in hopes it would correct this weird error. No such luck.
So now my question is. Has anyone every heard of this issue before?
And Is is possible to flash a fresh FULL stock rom onto my STOCK UNROOTED phone? Where would i find this?
Moved as not Android Development.
get any stock ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654869 [preferably EPE54B]
Rename the zip to PASSIMG.zip and pop it onto the SD card. Reboot into bootloader. Select the bootloader option. The phone will scan the SDcard for update zips and ask you to install the update.

I searched before I posted this question since I know it is a common question but I can't seem to figure out the problem with my phone.
I recently just bought it and I decided to root it. I following the instructions from wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_Nexus_One_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod When I went through the instructions, everything went through smoothly. No errors, all were complete installs but my Nexus One is stuck at the boot screen now. I waited for over 20 minutes but it wouldn't budge at all. I've done the procedure after "fastboot oem unlock" and "Flash CyanogenMod" already but it doesn't seem to make a difference. The flash that I'm currently using is the update-cm-5.0.5.1-N1-signed and gapps-passion-ERE36B-2-signed. Do you have any idea what could be wrong with it or what do you suggest any steps I should take to fixing it?
I don't think my phone is bricked since I'm able to go into Bootloader mode and Recovery.
Try a wipe and if not reflash and re wipe.
Mine is doing this too and i did exactly what OP did
Even after a wipe. Im reflashing right now
5.0.5.2 has just been released. Apparently fixes this bug. get it while it's hot.
Its still taking forever to boot. Im still watching it. What exactly do i do to do a "Wipe"?
Damn I don't have a microSD reader. =\
Is there any way to put the ROM on the microSD via Nexus One?
I'm having the same problem. This is on the recently released ATT compatible N1. I am able to go into Amon_Ra's 1.7 recovery and successfully install the V5.0.5.2 and gapps-passion-EPE54B-signed.zip but still have the same problem. Stuck on the X with the lock. I keep putting the original Rom back and doing it again after a full wipe and still have the same problem.
you dont have your usb cable? I was thinking about that too. Cause i know the nexus has its own memory internally but it doesn't show up under my computer. maybe you can push files through command prompt or something. or on linux
If you have the Amon_Ra's recovery you can do a wipe once you're in recovery.
If you made a backup of the original rom you can just put that back and boot into the original rom. once there, you can mount the usb and download it to the sdcard
you can also download the cyanogen updater from the android market and download the rom to your sdcard to install.
What did the trick for me was fresh install of Cyanogen 5.0.5 which i got to boot succesfully AND THEN use cyanogen updater to get to 5.0.5.2

2 ways, either plug it in via usb and mount it from your notification bar on the phone, or download the rom via the web browser on your phone, then use Astro file browser(free) to move it from downloads to the root folder of your SD card, then flash from recovery.

How long does it usually take to restore? I have about 18 lines of dots. Should it be taking this long?
5.0.5 first then update
Install the base 5.0.5 first then the google add on if you want the apps. After you boot like that update to the latest CM. I saw this some other place and this worked for me, don't wanna take anyone's credit.
Thanks everyone. 5.0.5.2 worked flawlessly once I was able to put it on my microSD.
If you guys don't have a MicroSD Reader, and have the AmonRA recovery, just boot to the recovery and chose I think the 3rd option (Toggle MS USB). You'll be able to see the phone as a mass storage device.
I decided to root my phone and try some ROMS last night on my Captivate. Love it by the way except one problem that I can not seem to figure out.
Before I did any flash I used ROM Manager to take 2 backups of my stock ROM and also used Titanium to backup all user apps and data.
Everytime I try to go back to stock and the phone reboots after recovery mode I get the AT&T logo and it never goes anywhere.
How do I get back to stock?
THANK!
If you are trying to restore stock through nancroid backup that won't work. You need to use odin.
What build is your phone? You can find it under your battery, something between 1006-1012
It is 1012. I thought you could just restore from those backups to get back to stock.
I have never used odin before. How do I go about that?
Thanks!
I can not find a good download for Odin. Could somebody provide please?
Thanks!
With your build you need to be careful what odin you use
You wavy to follow this

Clockwork does not restore kernel and modem. You are stuck at at&t screen because your system is ext 4 used on roms, and your nandroid is rfs. Long and short it won't work
So.... I am a bit confused now. Is there even a way to get back to stock at this point?
The link I posted
Your stock is jh7, odin One click is jf6. The procedure laid out in the link will get you back to jh7, although it takes a couple steps.
As long as you can get into recovery you can probably reflash any rom you have on your sd
Yikes thats a tall order to get back. Thought it would be more simple. So it is easy getting to a point to flash ROMS... Not so easy going back.
I'm also stuck in the same vicious cycle as we type.
I got 2 different stock rom backups and a cognition backup and can't get nothing to restore factory. I got premium ROM Manager. I can get into 2 different recovery screens. 1 from the Clockwork v2.5.1.3-voodoo lagfix and 1 using the update.zip on my root. Can't restore anything that gets me past the ATT logo.

What is your build number, under battery
Between 1006-1012
I don't see a 1006-1012 anything. Where exactly would it be listed under the battery ??? ON the battery ? my phone is 3 days old.
EDIT: oh I think its a 1010 ...I think I found it
Thanks for the help by the way.
Link listed earlier in thread
Yeah it is the same for me.... Sucks!
And I can not download any of the files in that link because I am at work and those hosting sites are blocked for us. :-(

Have you tried this
Phone off
Hold volume up and down and power
Let go when at&t comes up
Should be green recovery
Select install zip from sd
Choose zip
Select rom file that is saved on your sd, any you may of tried
Confirm
If your lucky maybe you can flash the rom
Uhh ??? Somehow from the recovery mode I just re-installed Cognition 3.04 back on my phone by browsing to the ROM.zip an installing it. I have to charge my phone for a few but I'll definitely come back and tell how I did it after a while. I think it was by browsing to cognitionv3.zip from 1 of the recovery menus insead of going to the update.zip. That beats the hell out of going through all the steps of going back to stock.
Thanks for the help.
EDIT:
Yeah somewhat like above post, only I had the Cognition (red) recovery menu and I went to install .zip and browsed to the cognitionv3.zip on my sd and installed it. *BLAM* back to Cognitionv3.04 I'll work with that till I got more time to mess with the other.

Yep I have tried that. Or at least I guess....
I go into the recovery screen but the problem is the only zip files I have are my custom ROMS. I did a complete backup with ROM Manager of the stock ROM before flashing however it did not create a zip file, it created a folder which contains everything that was backed up. I have tried to restore from that but when I do and the phone restarts it sticks on the AT&T white logo screen.
I am not saying restore stock, I am saying flash a rom. it may get you a working phone
Oh yeah I have done that just fine. I am using Cognition.
I am just trying to find my path back to stock.

Exactly, If you flashed a ROM on the phone the ROM is still there. Just use the recovery mode and choose "install a zip from sd" then go to "choose a zip from sd" then it will let you browse the sd for the .zip(rom) you just had. (not stock). It should be successful. Worked for me.
At least you will have a working phone and you can then look into going stock once you've read up a little more on it.
Just trying to help.
EDIT: oh, OK, I myself was in a panic and had just found that possible.
No problem. Thank you for the help!
I was thinking that when I did the backup with ROM Manager that it was creating a ROM version of the stock so I could flash back. Guess not though.
Hello all! Long time lurker, first time poster! I'm on the verge (halfway through actually) of flashing my first custom rom: Serendipity 6.3. However I have run into a couple of issues that may or not be a problem.
1) I successfully used Odin 1click to flash back to stock from the official Froyo update when I went to master clear however at roughly 95% completion (On the Odin download bar) I got some sort of runtime error that had to force close Odin while the factory reset was occurring on the phone. Thankfully the phone rebooted and appeared to have wiped the Internal SD successfully. Was wondering if I should just re-download Odin if I plan on master clearing again. I abused the search function for the Cappy forums but couldn't find a solution to this specific problem.
2) After the whole Odin debacle I just decided to go on ahead with flashing Serendipity but ran into another problem... I cant reboot into recovery whereas I could prior to flashing back to stock... So I guess my question here is: Is it ok to use ADB reboot recovery to reinstall the packages that Serendipity uses as it's update.zip? Or should I download figure out how to use the other version of Odin that flashes the 3 button recovery?
I apologize for the length and possible redundancy and really dont want to step on any toes here but I have been wading through the sea of material (via the search function I promise!) on here and just get bogged down by the sheer volume of information out there on these multiple subjects...
If anyone could help me clarify any of this I would greatly appreciate it! You have truly taken me from wondering what rooting meant to beginning to experiment with custom roms! This site is truly a great resource!
Flash back to stock agin. Then try rooting it. Next install "rom manger" from market and install captivate update.zip . Next reboot into recovery (volume buttons plus power and release when see at&t screen) install packages then on clockwork manger recovery screen instal zip from sd and install your rom. But to hard reset dial *2767*3855#. But reflash stock sup don't have problems when flash your rom. Also cognition is as good rom if like stock look. P.m. me if need anything else.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Trying to install the Cynogen ICS ROM, and when installing the .zip, it loads the Samsung flash screen with Cynogen, then get the green guy and loads of text for about half a second, then it just reboots. Over and over for about 10 mins. WHat went wrong? What should I do?
It happend the same to me.
I just removed the battery and put it back, entered in CWM and reinstalled the ROM.
Good luck!
I somehow got into a recovery mode, but with the assumption it would all go wrong again, tried to install the .zip Darky rom instead, went through the process and said it worked but then it just went back to the Cynogen loop problem!? I just tried a Restore instead, but I haven't rebooted yet, should I wipe everything again, and try the ICM .zip again?
Yep, just go with the whipe. I hope you did a backup.
OK turns out the Restore failed, so now trying to reinstall ICS .zip again. fingers crossed!
yep backed it up, not that its seems to have helped.
Well now it's stuck in the Galaxy S bootscreen...
that really sucks....did you deactivated the lagfix before running the rom?
If the problem persists you have to run a basic ROM using ODIN.
Yes deactivated the lagfixI can't get into recovery or anything now, except download mode.
Download mode is all you need to run a ROM with Odin.
I recommend Amestris, it is a good ROM, good battery life but the thread in not complete, there are some files missing...for now.
I've put some older ROM on I had, then tried to install ICS again but now when I use Clockwork, and select the file it goes to recovery but I can't select any zip files, just reboot back to this awful old ROM!
I had same issue when I installed ics, what I did that worked was pull battery and go back into cwm, reflashed ics zip and it fully installed that time. Had same experience when flashing cm7 before.
Not getting anywhere with this. I get an option to install zip from sdcard which is where the update is (an where the darky update also is which worked), but there is an option to update from internal SD, which is not where the file is. Is it in the wrong place?
I think you would be best to use Odin 1.3 to flash DarkyROM Ficeto JVT base rom.
are you sure those files are still on your sd card?
The reason you need to pull the battery and reflash the ICS rom a few times is because Samsung ROM (most) have a different partition layout to CM7 based roms (which the ICS port is one).

I upgraded to 6.0 a day or two ago and had quite a few booting problems trying to get it going, something I have not had upgrading on a Nexus ever before. Anyway, after reinstalling TWRP just to make sure, re-downloading a couple ROMs and kernels again to my phone (even though MD5 checked out) and reinstalling everything about 3 times I finally got the phone to boot. So at least my phone works again, but my problem I am wondering about now is that my phone will not boot and gets stuck on the ROM splash screen every time I turn the phone on. IN order to fix it I have to go into recovery and wipe dalvik and cache to get the phone to boot. Is this normal behavior for Android 6.0 right now? I dont feel like it is... Does anyone know what could be wrong?
Did you wipe data or did a factory reset? Unless it's a minor change, you always need to wipe data too. In TWRP factory reset does that without deleting your photos and such, but always do a full backup nevertheless.
Another question, did you upgrade the bootloader and the radio from the official factory image? (MRA68K or MRA58N)
Yep I did a 100% wipe like I always do when installing any new ROM.
Bootloader is on the M preview version 2. Didnt see any download links for a newer bootloader version. Radio is the M radio as well. MRA68K I believe.
I went and downloaded the official OTA and extracted the bootloader and radio from that. I think they are the same versions, at least for the bootloader. I will install them when I get home tonight anyway and see if it fixes the issue.
