Anyone know why my phone is automatically rebooting into fastboot - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running CM 5.0.6. I ran into some weird issues with my phone the trackball not working and the screen not registering touches properly. I thought it was the CM rom so I started messing around with the Modaco sense rom not realizing I was on the wrong radio. So I go back to cyanogen and I can't reboot to the actual rom without going through fastboot because the phone automatically reboots into fastboot. Anyone know why?

You mentioned your trackball wasn't working. Is it possible that the trackball is permanently in the "on" position, and so always boots to fastboot? You could try fixing the trackball somehow (not really sure...).
Just my opinion on what the problem might be...

Try flashing the radio again, then CM5.0.6.

if the problem was the trackball, would the phone boot in safe mode when it is rebooted using the command line fastboot?

Sounds to me like it can't boot the kernel or system. Try reflashing whatever ROM you're running and make sure you have enough system space for it, i.e. if you wan't to flash an ICS ROM, be sure to have the ICS hboot scheme.

bootloader screen flahes when powering on

ok i have run into this weird issue with my G1. it was working perfectly fine yesterday. i turned it off and charged it until it was fully charged like i usually do, but when i turned it on the boot loader screen flashed and the phone turned off! this happens whenever i try to turn the phone on. i cant get into recovery becuase the bootloader screen just flashes. when i try to get to the bootloader screen, it starts up fine but then looks for an image and turns off again. this started happening a few days after flashing haykuros spl if that helps. am i bricked or is there a way to fix this? thanks in advanced
edit: i am also usin the latest experimental build from cyanogen although i dont think this is the problem.
edit2: i managed to get my phone to start up, but im afarid to switch it off just incase it starts happening again so im still looking for a solution to this problem.
edit3: ok back to square one, my phone froze after fully booting up, restarted itself and now the problem is back! wow this is annoying.
it sounds like your camera button could be stuck. if you want to test this type reboot recovery into the recovery console and see if it boots into recovery or bootloader.
check and see if your camera button is stuck or partially stuck since you were able to boot it up once at least
Do you have fastboot working? if so, you can grab your nandroid backups from your SD card and flash them.
or go to cyanogens thread, download the recovery and flash the recovery using the fastboot command to install. i believe its
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
but plz confirm before you do that
EDIT: david means use adb since you cant get into recovery
adb shell reboot recovery

he said he got the phone up and running i meant if he wanted to see if it was a software problem he could type reboot recovery into the terminal emulator and see if he got the bootloader screen or the recovery screen.
also i believe the fastboot commands you posted are correct.
ok thanks for the help guys. before reading your posts a left the phone for a few wins powered it on and now mt phone has booted up and it is working. i will try your solutions still though. i am not sure if i have fast boot working. when the bootloader screen flashed i do remeber it saying fastboot so does that mean i have it running?
edit: camera button seems to be fine although i havent tried the rebbot recovery yet though lol because i need my phone an im not sure if i can get it working again.
do you have adb set up

yeah, although im using the 1.5 sdk and not the latest 1.6 does that matter?
if you have adb you will need to have the fastboot.exe (which i think is in the tools folder of the sdk) so cd to the sdk tools folder then use
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
(also have the recovery.img in the tools folder for this)
ok thanks my phone froze so i had to turn it off and now i am back to square 1 again is there anything besides the camera button that could be casuing this?

i cant get into fast boot...the screen with 3 androids on skateboards flashes once really quickly and thats it :/
can anyone help me? the camera button seems to be fine and not stuck. is there another factor that could be causing this? i think i might try unrooting then going through all the steps to root it again. or flashing back to the hardspl and see what happens.
update: i managed to get the phone to boot up again so i went into terminal and typed reboot recovery and i got to the recovery screen ok, but when i pressed home + back to restart the phone the bootloader screen flashed again really quickly :/ it also seems like if i leave the phone off for a few hours it will power up fine but when it is turned off i have to wait another few hours til i can switch it back on.

this sounds like a hardware problem instead of a software problem since there is still a recovery screen, if your phone is still under warranty call your provider and see if there is anything they can do about it, and if they send you another one, just unroot the one you have
my phone isnt under warranty so looks like i will either have to put up with or buy myself a new one. thanks for the help.
If your sure your camera button isn't stuck, check your back button. If not, maybe some sweat or water got into it. some type of hardware dmg possibly. If your the do it yourself type of person, theres always this handy dandy notebook, I mean service manual

ahh yes that would make sense seeing as the bootloader screen says fastboot so it must be a problem with the back button. never thought of that. thanks for the help.
ok assuming that the back button is the problem, if i were to flash back to the hard spl would this problem go away seeing as fastobot mode only works with the 'special' spl?

[Q] Stock rom keeps hanging on boot screen.

I haven't touched my Rogers G1 rom, it is as stock as they come. One day the battery died, so I plugged the phone to charge and also tried to start it up.
My problem started after that.
I will try to restart the phone and it'll get stuck on boot screen - where it says HTC or sometimes even just the Rogers screen.
Only solution is to take battery out, do hard reset.
I've searched the forums but everybody else asks regarding modded roms and not stock.
Any idea how I could resolve this issue without flashing new roms? Or is that my only way out?
Thanks.
Did you apply Rogers mandatory 911 update that was released about a year ago? You can check by booting into fastboot mode (hold the camera button while powering it on). If your radio version is 3.22.26.17 you have the update. Rogers locked down fastboot in this latest update and the only way to root it is through the ROM. If you don't have this update I can walk you though the steps to root your phone though fastboot.
Just checked and it does have the update.
Should I just go ahead and flash new roms?
I keep having the same issue as before.
With the latest update Rogers locked down fastboot so it is useless. So, I don't believe that there is any way to flash a new ROM without first booting into your existing ROM.
Sorry but I'm inexperienced with flashing roms...
If I can't flash by the fastboot method, I can still flash by rooting the phone, correct?

I'm not completely sure, but usually you need to be able to get into the rom to root. Maybe there is another way.
6 hours later and i got nowhere...
I rooted phone, flashed new cyanogen rom, setup amon ra's recovery but I didn't do new radio since my current is one of the newer ones.
The booting goes nowhere as soon as the rogers logo shows at the beginning of boot up.
Would a new radio help? Could that be the issue?
edit:
The phone rebooted properly and now I have a working fone!
Wait, how did you root the phone without getting into the ROM?

I used the Androot method, copied onto sd card, launched file via file manager app on phone and it rooted the phone. This is how I remember anyways - I fiddled with the phone for good part of the afternoon so my memory is all over the place with the specifics.
I used this site for rooting.
I thought you said in the op that you couldn't boot into the ROM (got stuck on boot screen). So, what was the problem in the first place? (or how did you fix the ROM?)
Sorry I guess I wasn't clear enough in op.
The only way I could get to use the phone was to do a hard reset and let the phone boot up from there, however if I ever wanted to turn the phone off or restart the phone it would get stuck on the next boot up.
I was able to flash the rom by constantly hard reseting the phone every time I needed to put files onto the memory card.

[Q] captivate wont boot past at&t logo

so i recently flashed apex rom to my phone, and its my first 2.3 based rom. i started having some issues with these weird colored likes kinda like static on an older tv on the screen whenever i was booting into recovery and then recovery itself wouldn't show up at all. i figured it might have something to do with an older version of clockwork or something that didnt support 2.3 so i went into rom manager to update it, this is where it gets kinda weird. captivate wasn't in the list of choices for which phone i had so i picked one, and now my phone wont boot past the at&t logo. ive tried all the key combos i can find to try and boot it into download to odin it but i can't get anything to work. has anyone had this problem before?
Did you flash the correct (gingerbread) bootloaders?
And you probably should have stayed on the cwm version that your rom came with.
im guessing i didnt flash the right one since it seems to have broken it. and i dont think the rom came with cwm because it didnt change from before/after i flashed. nor was it working.
You might want to start over from scratch (stock), reread the instructions. Download everything aging (just in case you had a bad download). and flash once more.
cmw is built into every kernel except stock, that shouldnt be a problem
good luck

Yup. I got the same horizontal noise lines when flashing Cog5 v1.0 . I was sure that it was a soft brick. Used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127249 to go to Stock 2.3.3 and it worked. Began from scratch. Hope this helps.
the main problem is that i cant get into recovery or download mode. if i try to boot the phone at all it freezes, either on the at&t screen or if i have the usb plugged in, the circular lines loading screen. im thinking im gonna have to run down to radio shack and get some resistors for a jig.

Cyanogenmod7 Boot Loop After Supercharge

Hi All,
I have been running Cyanogenmod 7 on my Milestone for a while. I recently tried out the Supercharger and upon reboot, I'm getting a bootloop. When it boots, I get to the Cyanogenmod7 boot logo, eventually I hear the camera focusing but the logo is still there. If I put it on the dock, it kicks it out of the boot screen and lets me into the phone (phew). If I push where the unlock button is on the screen, I can hear it sliding unlocked but again, nothing. Anyone know what happened? I don't really want to flash it back to stock as I have it all setup nicely. Also, I even "unsupercharged" it and it still is doing this. Right now, I'm able to use my phone since I have the dock but if it randomly reboots, I will be in trouble .
Thanks!
Jon
Do a Nandroid Backup via OpenRecovery.
Flash it back to Stock.
And restore the important things (not the whole system).
That's what I figured. Thanks!
I ended up just backing up what I needed and flashing HO!NO! Only problem is that I can't seem to get the settings to stick on reboot.

[Q] Boot lopp w/ AP, Plz help.

Droid 4 running Stock Jb 4.1.2, Safestrap 3.11, Liquid smooth 2.9, CM (last stable)
Everything working fine for a number of months, installed Liquid smooth via -> delete romslot 3, create romslot 3, install Liquid 2.8.
It ran for a number of days no problems. Restarted fine, all features worked great, even the annoying random restart from 2.4 went away.
6 - 10 days in, im surfin' the news sites at work, put it down, screen goes black, i pick it up. Hit the power button cause i realize its off and it just boot loops... so bad i had to vol-/+ pwr, go to flash mode and THEN turn it off b/c it just kept trying to restart, hang on logo.
I got home and decided to AP flash the latest:
9.8.2O-72_VZW-18-2
Blur_Version.98.72.182.XT894.Verizon.en.US for the maserati.
Boot looped a few times, i was able to get it to go into recovery mode, after that it loaded up the stock JB system. First boot it crashed and restarted, second boot it loaded but only the keyboard worked, not the touch screen. Went to the in OS option of factory reset mode + delete storage.
Rebooted, worked. Checked it a few boots, everything is fine. I use Druid 4 Utility Xt894 JB version and apply the root. Works great. Install safestrap, Create new partition, install liquid smooth 2.9. Works for an afternoon... at work today the touch screen stops responding, i restart it a few times. I try to enter recovery mode. Now im in boot loop again...
I've tried re flashing it again, a few times. I tried even going down to the previous release of JB for the phone. STILL 4.1.2!!!! But nothing.... it just boot loops... what did i do wrong? It was running great. No tweaks or anything done to it prior to it having its melt down.
Help please.. ive provided as much information as possible and though i only joined XDA now to post for help, i have read it for a long time as my main source for my phone and have donated to both CM and Liquidsmooth teams previously..
help!!!
I can't see where you are doing anything wrong. You have obviously done your research and have a good idea of what you are doing. I see, after you fastbooted, you went back to Liquid. I think I would try running CM10.1 or even stock for a few days and see if you have the issue there as well. If you do than it sounds to me like it might be a hardware issue. If not, maybe try re-downloading Liquid. Perhaps your zip got corrupted somehow.
I would love too. In fact i would be willing to run it on the stock crappy 4.1.2 if i could get it out of boot loop this time...
It just keeps boot looping on the logo. AP Fashboot flash and BP flash work but recovery and normal boot/reboot mode just goes into M logo boot loop.
I've re downloaded the 4.1.2 jb SBFs from 2 different sources to ensure its not a corrupt file, tried 18_1 and 18_2 software versions...
Is there a way to use the abd shell to get into the filesystem and check whats going on? Is the SBF the last call? or is there another route to see whats going on or just flash EVERYTHING? Like completely back to stock?
I can find my way around a PC file system but im not familiar with linux. Please help me understand, Is it like having CMOS and BIOS settings or equivalent to damaged CMOS firmware? What am i not replacing/reverting by SBF and HOW can i replace/revert BEYOND the basic sbf...
If ya point me in a direction or to someone who can help me out i can do all the foot work just point me in the right direction?
Is this applicable? I found a site talking about using CWM in a ADB shell file push to possibly get access to more features?
The article also goes into reading the busybox / ADB command screen? (sorry for not proper jargin) and see what its doing during the boot loop before it restarts?
Id add the link but i need more posts....
Update: Flashed 18_2 again with a "factory cable" i made, let it boot loop a series of times before it started up into the stock system again.
At first, again the touch screen wouldn't work, random lockups and restarts, etc. Since i just got it into the main system again and i had to leave for the weekend for a trip(no wifi or network), i couldn't mess with it all weekend but i left it on the whole time and kept checking its functionality... gradually its come back to full function. Touch screen works and is accurate, no more lockups, no more restarting, even stopped boot looping when i restart and enter recovery..
Im not sure and i couldn't find any forum converstations or write ups to support to idea but i think after a major crash and you flash new or reflash your SBF, it seems the phone needs time to recalibrate and index? Not sure, but just an FYI. Gonna try loading SS and liquid again.
