Application Upgrade - HTC Sync 2.0.33

Previous version required local admin rights to run (not only to install) and i had to go back to 2.0.4
Is this solved in this version?

Downgrade from WM6 to WM2003SE activesync problem

i'm really keen to get this issue fixed.. any suggestions would be appreciated.
i have just downgraded from WM6 to WM2003SE (o2 XDA offical rom 1.40 for AUS) and i cannot sync the device anymore.
i have completely set the device back to it's original state, ext rom, main rom, radio rom. the PDA itself works fine, no issues there.
i receive an error when i try to sync with my laptop.. (which it used to sync with when i put WM6 on the device).
the error is - cannot verify the version of activesync on your device, a program such as a firewall may be blocking a port activesync uses to connect to your device, you may need to upgrade to a more recent version or activesync
i have removed activesync, deleted all the registry entries, folders and files relating to activesync that i could find. reinstalled activesync, still no luck.
-> i can get the device to sync with my desktop without any problems (i never used the desktop to sync to it when WM6 was installed)
however all my data is on the laptop.
Any ideas ?
update
here is an extract from the log..
**** ActiveSync (4.5.5096 RETAIL) started, Cmd line: '/onconnect'
10/08/2007 16:07:14.324 Creating new partnership for device 0x0 (Pocket_PC, PocketPC).
10/08/2007 16:07:14.324 Error 0x8000BADD: Failed to get version number from device.
10/08/2007 16:07:15.927 Creating a guest connection for device of type 'PocketPC'
-> i can't get into the screen to clear the storage and hive..
i can get into bootloader.. can't get it to work when i press power, reset, camera and record.. just goes into bootloader.. or the numbers come up on the bottom..
could there be some residual information left behind from the previous install of WM6 ??
how do i set the version no manually ? is this done in the PDA registry ??
I don't remeber having this problem. All you can do it try to downgrade ActiveSync to one of the older versions.

[SOLVED] Flashing issues. Error 170 & 171 Win7 and Vista users

After I started using my Win 7 system, I had to do the whole process of updating and flashing my device. After like 3 hours going back and fourth to find the solution, I found it is a pretty strange way. In a place where I would never have thought before:
The problem is about Drivers.
I've found there are two type of drivers:
1. ADB/Bootloader interfaces (usb_drivers we download from Android SDK). This are useful in the first part of the HOWTO since we need to run some ADB commands. This might be also useful during the rooting process
2. MyHTC drivers (both boot and standard). This are the basic HTC drivers for using with several software like HTC Sync AND for flashing phone. This are installed during the HTC Sync installation process.
How to know which driver is using at each time?
Under Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> We might find a driver called Android Phone.
1. With the phone in the Start menu into it we might see either:
a) ADB Interface
b) My HTC
2. If we go into the bootloader (rebooting device, volume down + power button) we might see
a) Bootloader
b) My HTC
If we need to FLASH, the we need in both parts My HTC
If we see anything else, we need to update the driver. Just by going into properties of the driver, Controller, Updating Controller -> Find Controller into the PC -> Select from the list of controllers of this PC -> Use Disk and we must look for the HTC Driver that is installed during the HTC Sync Installation process (Normally this is into Program Files-> HTC -> HTC Driver).
Finally we can update the driver by selecting the My HTC one from the list.
This worked perfectly for me, and make me discover this issue that may help some people. I write this as a complement for my guide for flashing to make it wider and more complete: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=603286
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm having this issue with a friends HTC Legend.

What do you mean exactly by going into the properties of the driver? (Win 7 64bit)
Thanks.

in english please? I can't understand HOW you are doing this... I am trying to flash a HTC Desire S with Android ICS (latest from htcdev WWE) and it connects fine, but when I get to "Waiting for Bootloader........" it does that for a minute, then says "Error [171] USB Connection Error" The phone shows the HTC logo with black screen. My laptop says "USB Device Not Recognized" too and it fails. What can I do to fix this? I have installed the ADB and SDK also the HTC drivers and HTC Sync, tried everything please help

I'm not sure if this applies to HTC Desire S... this was meant to be used for HTC Tattoo (HTC Click)

Ah I see. Any idea how I could probably fix this? I'm using Windows 8 and I have scoured XDA and the internet for 29 hours straight for answers and turned up empty. I have no MicroSD card to perform the update using the PB99xx.zip method and all other methods are useless. I just want a straight-forward RUU update for my phone but can't seem to do it without that silly Error 170/171 and USB Device Not Recognized errors

64-bit ADB driver independent of HTC Sync?

Is there any way to install JUST the USB driver for 64-bit Windows (7) so I can use ADB to install and test apps on the phone, without having HTC Sync sink its hooks into Windows and try to endlessly sync things I don't want to have sync'ed (because I only use the Hero for testing apps to make sure they work on older phones)?
For future reference, does the Hero use the same USB drivers as newer phones (like the Evo3D), or did HTC switch chipsets somewhere along the line and change the driver used by newer phones?
Yes, I posted this yesterday but people didn't like... I wanted to do exactly this.So here is the way I proceeded:
I've done this for a desireHD but if HTCSync 3 is for your phone, it has to work.
Hi, here is an easy way to only install the drivers from the HTCSync package.
Double clic on setup_3.0.5579.exe (dwnld from HTC support site)
Choose the language and clic next (stop when it list the things to install: air,...)
Go to c:/user/yourname/AppData/Local/Temp
Order the files by date and choose the last folder created (so the temp folder were the files were extracted for the full package install)
Delete all *.prq except the ones for the drivers (3 files, 2 if you choose between x86 and x64)
Clic next in the HTCSync install box.
All deleted prq will be 'installed' but in fact no
Check... only drivers are installed
nb: do this if you don't have a sense ROM and don't need HTCSync of course.
Hope this will help
Edit: if you only use adb, you can dwnld the Android SDK, open it with 7zip and just extract ADB (and needed dll). No need to install the full SDK if you don't plan to make any dev. Personaly I'm only using ADB and Fastboot
Edit2: forget previous Edit... you develop apps... don't know regarding your last question but it seems there is only 2 drivers in the package x86 and x64. So I guess all device covered by HTCSync 3 share the same driver. This is just my idea, if someone knows for sure, add your comment.
update
Hey guys there's an updated version of HTC Sync.
When you go to install that, it tells you that it needs other stuff installed before it can continue (C++ redistributable, etc), two of these are the drivers you need.
Proceed with the pre-requisite installation then cancel the main installation and voila'! All is good.

Try the SDK drivers:
https://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
You need to download the sdk, but when you launch it, just uncheck everything besides the USB Drivers.

The deletion trick still works on newer versions of Sync, however, you should also edit config file (found in the same folder) and delete all the prerequisites except for BMP drivers and Driver installer. Click Next, wait for drivers to be installed and hit Cancel when it asks for confirmation to install Sync itself.
I managed to install it on both 32 and 64-bit windows 8
