They might. Just be honest about the hardware problem you're experiencing, and don't volunteer any info they don't ask for. If they don't ask about the bootloader, don't tell them.
Bootloader has nothing to do with specs of dust, purple tint, or a broken power button.
they have already advised me that unlocking the boot loader only voids the warranty if it causes the issue. i am sending my phone back because my charger port broke. but. there is always a but. the process after the repair is the issue. after they repair they recover the boot.img and system.img. if the cannot happen. the customer is responsible for repacing the motherboard...that is about $287

basically if htc cannot do what you guys have sent me. im responsible for a new mobo.

this is very interesting and good to know, so they only really care about being able to restore straight from the recovery

interessting, thx for sharing!
no problem guys. glad I could share.
The rep i spoke with read to me word by word the email that he was sent from his management. He basically told me that if I root my phone and the issue is determined to be software related. I might as well get ready to pay for a new mobo
Others have had their rooted and rom phones with hardware defects sent in for a repair without a mobo change so I am not sure why this case would be different? Out of numerous posts about this I dont recall a single one where a mobo swap was done unless the phone was bricked or otherwise firmware molested.

Ok I was trying to flash new rom...so I flashed to stock...I used Odin3 V1.0 with 3 combo fix....but after the process finished in Odin...and it showed Reset....my phone should have rebooted right? But it didnt reboot...just got dead...I removed everything and tried to start it no use...even used jig...but its no responsive...I am not panicked (as it was my experimentation phone)...but trying to find what to do in that case...battery was full too....
Sorry for another "bricked phone" thread....
You get nothing at all even with a jig?
You may have fully bricked it. I know a person that can probably fix it if you want to put the $ into it. If not hopefully someone on here can help you.
The guy that fixed mine is known as connexion2005 on xda. He does the rom reviews on youtube.
Best of luck to you, I hope you get it going.

howdy everyone,
So I am on TD 8.0, elemental 3.4, s-offed etc. I'm having a peculiar issue with the phone not charging unless i reboot it several times or boot into recovery. I have tried restoring etc but to no avail. It all appeared to start when I went from Stock+GE to TD8.0 but had a failed flash report in twrp after successful aroma install. after td failed to install I was having bootloops along with no charging, but was able to regain control by redownloading and reflashing. i've wiped everything multiple times and have reflashed and restored. it seems to happen if the phone has been charged several times without a reboot. any thoughts? doesn't seem like hardware as TWRP always will show charging.
thanks team

I have read about this a couple of times, it seems the only resolution is to revert back to 100% stock and then start the process of unlocking the bootloader/S Off etc again
drats, i was afraid of hearing that... thanks for the reply
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
so i'm back in the US and am seeking to return to stock and start fresh. since the phone is bugging out i can't get it to connect via usb unless i'm in the bootloader.... any way to pull files etc? this is such a headache and i'm so jetlagged. time for a beer.
scratch that. i could get the files via airdroid, even if it takes an age and multiple shutdowns and charges... the phone now will only charge if i hard reset a few times.... otherwise, it will nearly always charge if i'm plugged in and reboot to twrp...
What is the easiest way to revert to stock without stopping me from regaining s-off etc? sorry to be asking a newbish spoonfeeding question, just want to make sure i'm not buggering my baby. I'm considering attempting to flash the new base in the form of TD10, but unsure if that'd even help. just seems the problem is deeper than that... weird.
Here is the lowdown of what I have currently.
CID- 11111111
Hboot- 1.54.0000
Radio- 4A.17.3250.14
OpenDSP- v31.120.274.0617
os 2.24.401.1
emmc boot 2048mb
td8 build # 2.19.401.1
It's just such a strange problem. sometimes I can reboot several times and it will charge. if i reboot into twrp while plugged in it will charge. I cannot connect USB storage at all, and can only access the storage from a pc using WIfi. It seems fastboot sees the comp as well, though i've yet to try commands here...
any help would be greatly appreciated. If i have to return to stock, so be it, I just want to make sure i do it correctly and am able to get back on board with custom roms.
thanks everyone, sorry to newb up the board.
robert
ps, the phone also frequently enters car mode for no reason. frequently being twice a minute until i froze the app. it will also say the charger isn't supported even when i've not had it plugged in for hours or on that boot cycle. wonder if fastcharge had something to do with it? also keeps saying su binary out of date, even when i accept the update. and it daydreams sporadically during use (don't we all)
I'm having a similar issue which started when I was on elemental kernel and flashed bulletproof kernel to try it out but the problem didn't occur until I flashed back to elemental.

No, At this point I'm just hoping to find a way to revert back to 100% stock to see if that does anything even though I've read of other people with this issue on stock, never rooted/rom'd HTC One's
Returning to stock won't help buddy, I've literally got my phone back today as I had to send it off for repair, but HTC had to replace my device under warranty because it was a faulty handset. Send it off for repair dude.

i'm having the same issue here, returning to stock didn't fix a thing. now i am just trying to remove the UNLOCKED flag from the bootloader. I flashed my RUU etc, but since the phone can't connect via usb when booted, ADB won't work. I can fastboot etc, but how can i remove the unlock flag via REVONE without adb? can i do it just through fastboot? any help would be greatly appreciated

As the title says, I need to hard brick this HTC One. I offer rooting, repairing and factory unlocking as a part time job and had this customer bring me this phone which he tried rooting himself and now regardless what rom is flashed the phone just reboots and doesn't pickup a cellular connection. I tried to reflash it myself and even tried to flash the ruu but gave up after so many fails and due to the phone just rebooting can't s-off so now the customer wants me to hard brick his phone so that when it boots up it doesn't show the prompt on the splash screen the phone been tampered with so he can just pay the insurance deductible and get a new one. Not sure how to go about Hard bricking since I never hard bricked a HTC device before only a Samsung device. Any help would be appreciated on how to hard brick it or fix it if possible.
I think you could probably try flashing something from a different phone. I hear that screws things up nice and good.

that would be fraudulent first of all
secondly I assume you are still able to get into recovery if so then the device should be fine
verify that the rom that your customer downloaded was not downloaded from the international htc one, verify if the download was not corrupted.
post what steps you have followed trying to ruu, really this forum is all about helping but at the same time everyone should be aware of the dangers but most of all own up to their own actions if they end up with a brick.

When the customer brought me the phone he had installed ViperOne for the Sprint version which what this phone is, what he had installed before that i wouldnt know. What I have tried is flashed the stock firmware thru twrp and cwm and being that its s-on i have to flash the boot image thru fastboot but still reboots and no cellular service. i reflashed the stock recovery and relocked the bootloader and attempted to flash the ruu zip thru the fastboot oem rebootruu and fastboot flash zip rom.zip command and i get a error. I tried to get s-off so that i flash the ruu this way but due to the phone rebooting every few seconds it won't allow Moonshine s-off to finish which ends up giving me a error due to the phone rebooting. So what else can i do to fix this phone or hard brick to where it wont even bootup so an insuarnce claim can be done.
Since it is mentioned that the phone does not get celluar connection, I am assuming that the phone still boots. So when does it actually start rebooting itself?
There are two kernels in the ViperOne thread
- Flashable Kernel Only Zip 1.29.651.10 (LATEST)
- Flashable Kernel Only Zip 1.29.651.7
You do not need to go into fastboot to flash the kernel, unlike previous HTC phones unlocked bootloader on the HTC One allows for kernel/bootimage to be flash from recovery.
I'm just a bit puzzled as to how far the phone boots up too before it reset?
Have you tried a ##786# in dialer and then menu / reset?

After factory reset it will alow you to go thru the setup and then ill get a black screen with just the notification visible and after about 5 minutes the phone will reboot after that it will boot on that same black screen with the notification visible and then after about 2 minutes the phone will reboot and keep doing that until i boot into the bootloader and select power off. does the same regardless if it stock based or aosp based doesn't matter.

Is it 1.31 if so have you tried this method to flash the RUU? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44243635
It sounds like your customer flashed a non Sprint Rom prior to flashing ViperRom.

Why not just take it to the Sprint store? Sounds like the phone itself is defective. There was an article on here that Sprint stores frown on root, but they run the RUU and take it back to stock and if it still acts up replaces it. The phone is less than 6 months old, and unless it is beat to heck should be under warrantee services from Sprint.
Plus that would save $150 in deductibles if the phone is defective.

Yes it's 1.31 and I rooted this phone on this firmware without issues so not sure what the hell the dude did. I haven't tried this and will try it out but I found out that he doesn't have insurance with Sprint but with Best Buy so not sure how that will work as another customer of mine told me he's taken phones for exchange and the Best Buy rep don't even look at the phone and just issue out a replacement so he's going to try this. But i'll keep your link bookmarked just in case I come across this again. Thanks to everyone that helped.

Based on that info this method will fix the phone unless it is in fact a hardware issue, which I highly doubt.

My thought (having always bought my phones at Sprint) is that Sprint stores have service support personal at some of their stores that also can do basic repair services. Even if the phone was bought at Best Buy, the service provider is still Sprint and they should be able to run "tests" on the phone.
HTC One should also have a one year warrantee, and since the phone only has been 6 months old, should be covered unless abused.
So shouldn't hurt to take it to the Sprint store. Sprint is all about customer service. Worth the chance to get it fixed or replaced verses having to pay for insurance, etc. But you don't know until you try and worse they can do is tell you no...
what is happening here sounds very similar to what happen to this user http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45086289

Hey guys, I do no not own this phone (just picked up a Nexus 5) but, my dad does. He has been waiting for MONTHS to get his hands on this. It is his first Android device and he was able to ditch his work iPhone for it. However, he has been having an absolutely horrible experience:
I was remotely walking him through setup (moto transfer with iCloud to gmail account, etc etc).
- He turned on his phone, set up wifi, entered account credentials, played around for a minute or two.
- After this, he was prompted for an update, I told him to accept it
- After he accepted it, the phone WILL NOT TURN on. It boots to the homescreen, says it is "activating" the device, then it needs to restart.
- When it restarts, he sees the following attached screenshot.
I am assuming this was the Kit Kat update. I know tons of people have had problems with this (yes, I read the forums before posting, even though it is not my device). However, everyone with problems seemed to be rooted/not on stock. He is COMPLETELY stock.
If he chooses to reboot normally, he gets the homescreen, activation, then, it turns off and goes back to the attached screen.
If he chooses recovery, it goes back to this screen.
I'm not sure how an OTA could jack a phone up that was completely stock.. But it has happened.
Is there anything I can do remotely to help him start using his new phone? As I said, he has been excited for months for this phone and now just wants to throw it against the wall.
Is this screenshot the fastboot screen? If so, can I use the "fastboot erase cache" command?
Any *detailed* answers would be greatly appreciated... I'd love to get this working for him ASAP.
Thanks everyone!

Not having this phone myself, how do I flash a recovery if I can't access current recovery or boot? Can I flash with a locked bootloader? Is the screen my dad is seeing the fastboot screen?
Any ideas how a stock out of the box phone would encounter this?
Thanks!
Sorry it's just hard to not have a device and jump into this when there are a million threads and it is completely different than any device I've owned (also I have no hands on time with it).
Thanks again. The more details the better so that I can do this remotely.

I found this toolkit:
However, i'm assuming the fastboot menu will not work to just flash stock as you need to be in "Android or hboot"
The fastboot screen I took the picture of is not the same thing as hboot correct?
They are interchangeable terms. Hboot refers typically to an HTC bootloader

He was on the phone with Motorola "tier 2" support this morning for 3 hours. Their solution was to order a new phone and expedite shipping and return the old one when it gets here. I'm going to try this way first. They said this happens to "1 in 10,000" people. Lol, he's a lucky guy!

what probably happened was your dad never activated the phone then tried to take an ota or something like that and it got all jacked up. Alternatively, he could have (for some reason) gotten the 4.4 OTA even though the phone was on original stock FW. This could have f'd the phone up if it skipped the 4.2.2 OTA. If you need to help you dad out, download teamviewer or logmein (remote computer access programs) and just guide him through when to plug the phone in etc.
Not sure about the error you are getting but it could be because you are flashing the wrong FW for the phone, possibly an older FW or an updated FW and the order you are flashing it could be causing the error. You can fix this relatively easily if you were more familiar with fastboot. I can try and walk you through some stuff as well on gchat if you need some help. I could also remote into your dads computer and do everything that needs to be done (he could then remove my ability to remote in clearly). All that being said Im fairly busy so just answering some questions for you would be easier but more time consuming for your dad. For starters, you probably should be flashing the 4.2.2 FW found on sbf. it is the middle fw for verizon on the list. You also can probably just use rsdlite since he hasn't set the phone up. It is super easy. Just go to the thread for rsd lite back to 100% stock and you will be good to go. Then make sure he activates and sets the phone up and everything before he takes the OTA this time.

Not clear what you have done; would help us here to know what steps you've taken then everyone here may have other suggestions. If it's software related and just requires the appropriate flash you might be able to take it to one of the samsung experience centers in Best Buy or you can try their new hangouts support offering and see what they say.
Or just Odin back to NCE. Just leave out the bootloader file or it will fail.
