Has anyone tried it?
Does it work on the Hero running a 2.1 rom?
http://blog.vlad1.com/2010/04/27/fennec-on-android-ground-zero/
I downloaded and installed it this morning. You can quite easily tell that its a pre-alpha release. I couldn't get it to run for more than about 0.5 seconds. Its also about 30mb when installed.
Still, its good to know their development is progressing with this. Oh and its got a cool icon too.
Florida.
It won't work on our phones for a similar reason that google earth doesn't.
It is running Open GL 2.0 where our phones cannot run that high.
We will have to wait and hope they develop a version that runs on our phones.
it's about 10mb when installed, and i can't get it to run longer either...

Will we have OpenGL 2.0 with the official 2.1 Hero rom? Or is it a hardware limitation?

Does it means we will never see fennec running on our heroes?
Yeah, it's one of those annoying apps which don't work with the hardware. No, we might see it run, but the developers will have to change it quite a bit.

hello all. I was just wondering if anyone could update on all possible UI's if more do exist besides Hero and the stock t-mob. I must say i do love Hero very much but more so for me the novelty has allready worn off or maybe im just board with it and love flashing roms. At any rate i was just wondering what else might be available to even try to port or is allready done and maybe just doesnt get any love. Thanks, Veritas
I'm in the same boat as ya. Been trying out different UIs mainly hero and stock ui. I somehow always end up back at the stock ui well cyanogen's ui. I'd say just stick with the fastest ui for now until hero is running completely smooth or buy the htc hero itself. =D
There is also OMS but a working port has yet to surface. There were some folks working on it a couple months ago, but I think they are waiting on a full dump of the Dopod a6188 (the China mobile version of Sapphire/Magic) which runs it. If you want to see what OMS looks like do a video search for Lenovo OPhone.

Your right, we're waiting for xDan to get this dump so can be ported over to dream. Also there is alot of themes (if you look in the theme section) There in a format of a update.zip.
the blur was announced this week. idk if ok to port because im not sure the ui is open.
anyone know whats the most stable hero rom out at the moment?

Yah, the Motorola "Blur" (mentioned in early post) for the Cliq phone would be the next option I think besides the Hero and stock G1. But the cliq is like an 850mhtz phone..If it can be ported, it will prolly have to be cut down to run smooth on G1 and the Hero UI on a G1 still has its issues after months and months of work by XDA devs. Not sure what is in store with the Samsung Bigfoot as far as UI goes, Haven't seen any UI pics, may just be stock donut. LG has an android phone coming out for UK only at this point, but that looks like stock donut.

actually jac 2.1 is not even close to be stable when compared to modaco / akirahs 1.5.1 and jacs 1.6r2a.
2.1 still has bugs that older builds like 1.5.1 and 1.6r2a dont have.

3.1″ HVGA Touch Screen, 320×480 pixels
Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz
512 MB ROM, 256 RAM
114mm x 58mm x 15.6mm
the click is not a 850mhz phone. its 528mhz as you can see. and 256 ram... which is less than hero(288mb) so prolly BLUR might run smoother than hero when fully optimized.
the only android phone that has a processor higher than 600mhz is the sony ericsson xperia x3(rachael) at 1ghz
yeah i have thinking of trading in my g1 for a cliq next month. but the new "ui" is basically widgets that are attached to a blur account. so i dont see this is working on the the g1 we will most likely get a launcher that has 5 home screens and the colors but i doubt much else.
so with the impending release of gingerbread and the need for a 1ghz processor, what is in store for us at that point???
any ideas or guesses?
Wait untill its out then we will see if theres a way to make it work smoothly.
I must say that these "OMG something in the future may be bad, lets look for new devices" - posts are a bit annoying.
I personally hope that this specs are only for the regular updatet android devices and that the devs will handle this.
I'm waiting for the wildfire to be cracked, then we could potentially port native froyo sense made for devices similar to ours

needs higher memory requirements like 512Mb, so only Miletone2 and in 2012..
(it took 1yr for milestone1, so thats easy to estimate from now+12months)

Is that really true? What would require higher memory than Froyo? I don't see anything in the features which would require 512MB..
Guys: let's focus on what is REALLY important from 2.3. We don't need all those features...I mean: we WOULD like to get them all but I think it's a hard challenge for developers (the upgraded kernel hasn't even been released for 2.2, I don't want a 2.3 with battery draining and kernel_issues just becuase of Motorola laziness...). I just need a 2.1 (which covers all the "basics" of what a smartphone MUST do) with some improvements from 2.3! I'll start with mine:
1) New Keyboard: I really want to try the new keyboard and think shouldn't be so difficult to port it to 2.1 (just a hope!)
2) Download manager: not a must-have but hey...would be useful!
3) New UI and "smoother" animations: I'm quite sure this is almost impossible to port..
4) Support for WebM: see above...
By the way maybe the whole gingerbread can run on 2.6.32 kernel! So a good porting would be ready when motorola releases the official 2.2 sbf. Am I correct?
EDIT: Look at these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AAFF9PN-WU&feature=channel
Youtube 2.0 is also available for 2.1! I can't notice any difference with 2.3!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCgf8RW7B88&feature=channel
Newer streetview and Maps navigation are available on 2.1...No voice controls though!

it's a sweet dream... but i would be awesome
@89luca89: I didn't see anywhere that 2.3 supports GPU acceleration! This would be AWSOME especially for the browser!! How have Opera's guys been able to enable hw acceleration on their browser? Do you think it would be also possible on custom browsers like Dolphin or is that a "Presto" (the Opera's rendering engine while Chrome's one is Webkit) feature? Thanks!
@razer54: Being sincere...I'd really like (read as NEED) a smoother browser than smoother animations...Launcher Pro is smooth enough for me! And menus scrolling is too! The only one who lacks smooth interaction (scrolling, pinch2zoom etc.) is the browser! But, as I wrote above, there could be the possibility to port Opera's hw acceleration on a browser like Dolphin (or the stock one being the source code public). Couldn't it?
I presume everyone has seen this:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.3-highlights.html
Heaps of the new improvements look awesome, improved responciveness, native audio control, new keyboard, dalivik garbage collector, native voip, updated video drivers - all this stuff would make lots of apps (including games!) much better on Android.
I really hope game devs start getting serious about Android with the approah of the Playstation phone and Android 2.3 available. I'm no expert but I assume while some things like the new keyboard may be possible to port back to 2.1 or 2.2 on milestone, we will never see the bulk of 2.3 on our phones.
Ballinor I almost forgot to ask if copy&paste can be ported from 2.3!!
EDIT: Ok I changed my mind...I NEED Gingerbread!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me that will be possible to install it on Milestone!
can someone port the new keyboard? there´s already a couple of leaked keyboards but they all appear small on our precious .... its like a hyper compact keyboard ....

I'm sorry but what you're saying is mostly a dull statement. I wouldn't expect this coming from you at all, seriously. You didn't even explained what would need more memory. Its clearly stated the most of the higher specs would be used for new Multimedia standards and gaming improvements (Concurrent garbage collector being one of them!).
It took a bit more then half of year for Milestone 1 to get unofficial 2.2, the biggest problem being unlocked boot loader.
This is the same thing as telling its impossible to get Froyo to G1. Officially, that is correct. Unofficially, Cyano and everyone in XDA and other communities are doing everything to keep G1 alive. And I can tell you, Froyo on G1 is working smooth and without problems.

The 512mb of RAM is a statement from Google. They just want less fragmantation in android devices.
What that really means is it'll probably run on the Milestone if we didn't have that damn bootloader..
It'll probably be ported to the Droid.
It will be ported to Milestone too..

I hope so!!!
Unfortunately I'm not an expert in programming, but I'll give all my support for testing!
Milestone is too young do be abandoned, it is still an optimum phone in my opinion!

I think one of the most important think to port it"s the jit no ? if i remember well, the jit from froyo was ported to eclair, so the one from gingerbread can be ported to froyo no ?
Here you go, Android 2.4 Honeycomb's music player apk. Yes, Android 2.4. It seems to go along nicely with gallery 3d.

I have not even looked at it yet but for all I know, it may be HDPI only. That would be dumb of Google. I don't think many MDPI devices (if any) will get the official upgrade to 2.4 or 3.0, but rooters are like half or more of the user base right? I think google should be on the rooters side when it comes to this kind of thing. The G1 has gingerbread right? And that was not even supposed to get 2.0.

It probably has more to do with how much RAM this thing uses. I was reading reports of the guys in the original thread and they were saying it was sucking down 24-28mb of RAM, the Eris couldn't handle that drain, hell it pretty much takes being OC'd to handle the 3D gallery on these phones.
Got this from droidlife and I havent tested it yet since im on 2.3 but wanted the fam to have a crack at it and see if it works or not

We just threw up a post about the latest Netflix update which brought support to the original DROID, but what we failed to originally realize is that the update removed the device check which means in theory, that it should be able to work on all phones. Well, guess what? I loaded it up on my DROIDX2 (which is “not” supported) and it installed just fine and is now streaming a video. I’m loading it up on other devices too, but wanted to make sure you all knew. Feel free to grab it below and install – let us know how it goes!
*Note – this is not a hacked version. This is 100% the market version.
Update: Works on Thunderbolt (rooted 2.3), DROIDX2, DROIDX (2.3), and Xperia PLAY.
Update 2: No XOOM support though.
Update 3: Looks like it’s pretty hit or miss. Definitely sounding like it’s not working on stock Thunderbolt which is a damn shame.
Cheers Brandon!

It is not the epic 4g, it is hummingbird based devices on the 2.2 kernal. Our cm7 isnt built on gingerbread source. It is still on 2.2.1 source. The reason that you need 2.3 because it has better hardware support for the hummingbird processor due to the fist flagship device to have a hummingbird was on 2.3 release not 2.2 release. Also, our software DRM that Samsung gave us in our 2.1 and 2.2 based ROMs sucks/is unable to support Netflix web streaming.
