hi i've just recently made the switch from the iphone to android, and i have to say i'm very pleased so far, especially with the DC ROM.
i just have a quick question about the keyboard... is there any way through options or mods to enable spellchecking in QWERTY mode while have text prediction disabled?
the text prediction seems to really lag the keyboard, but it would still be very nice to have spellcheck.

How do I disable the phone style keyboard, and only have the proper 123/qwerty one, in contacts the keyboard changes to the 3 press phone one, but on other apps is the proper wide one?
touch keyboard changes its layout depending on what app you are using i think.
Can't really answer your question though.. lol sorry :O
I'd still like to lock, or remove some screens.
This bothers me too. I've tried playing with all the various XT9 options.
It would also be nice to have the HTC Touch keyboard work in landscape mode with out having to slide out the keyboard
is there any way to ALWAYS use the touch keyboard? no sometimes the touchkeyboard and sometimes the touch T9 keyboard?
bothers me too... I want to use the keyboard that I can see when there is nothing to type... but the keys are big enough and seperate from each other...

I've gone back to this, even though it is a bit unstable.
I feel like this is a stupid question so forgive my ignorance if it is but would it be possible to create a keyboard that uses the prediction and keys of IME with the features of the stock froyo keyboard? (I mean the ability to insert ! . , ? after each word and being able to slide your finger up for additional characters)
This seems like it would be impossible but then again, this is XDA so you never know
anyway, thanks!

I know its not quite what you're looking for, but a bit of work has been done on a keyboard manager to set different keyboards for portrait and landscape mode -- its still a WIP but its promising.
Hi, this is a thread for the programmers:
The actual keyboards fullfil all the screen and you can only see what you are typing and that is really annoying.
I had an iPhone in my hands the other day and I realised that when my friend put the phone into landscape mode he was still able to see a small part of the screen which was really useful in apps like Whatsapp.
Would it be possible in Android??
PD: sorry for my bad English, I don't use it really much lately and it's getting worse :S.
hi
try HTC_IME mod by jonasl

you have to look in the settings, somewhere is an option to disable fullscreen for the landscape keyboard
hi guys just got a question im using idroid 1.2.2 (or joyos) for our phones and the one thing that bothers me is the keyboard i dont have autocorrect and i can really do with having it any idea were i can get it and by the way when i try landscape keyboard the orientation does not work...
thanks in advanced
you can use other keyboard like swype which looks a bit like iPhone
and about landscape cab you be more clear
thanks for telling me that and about the orientation even if i enable it from the cm settings and i also enable it from the status bar it does not turn landscape when i am texting its really annoying
maybe you have changed some setting of the app related to orientation
Many of you may remember how nice T9 actually was. I turned on the T9 keyboard on my phone and its so nice again, but in some situations, it really is just easier to have the normal keyboard. Is there a way that I do not know of to switch on the fly? And before anyone says, I know about the config button and Input option in the notification menu. It seems that a single button to switch quickly would be awesome.
My skills at T9 have diminished over the last decade. I used to fly on my old Samsung A900.
