Some days ago, i've flashed my phone to get an "up-to-date" ROM. I chose "PDACornerIllusion 21139" of 2009.03.06. All went fine excepting the keyboard of my GPS wont work anymore (dunno why of course), so i re-flashed with another ROM.
I was surprised that my phone kept the CornerIllusion BootScreen, but i didnt care.
All of a sudden, after having soft reset the ROM i chose (the 2nd one), for an installation of some proggie. The ROM restart as brand new asking me to reset the screen, the clock, date etc... losing all my content and customizations. Then i couldnt sync with Outlook after the first sync i've done minutes ago (error code 800004005). I've decided to soft-reset the phone, and now, TF3D wont even start, (it selft tries to start several times, then gives up), AND the programs lists is all broken, no shortcuts left and the games folder is named *h1/4Eg+รง^, nothing works anymore.
I flashed with about 4 roms (including Aztor one), resulting in the same mess.
Does it have something to do with the first one "PDACornerIllusion 21139" and its still remaining BootScreen?
Can i flash my phone from its roots, to get rid of this ?
As it's maybe not the "fault" of PDACornerIllusion, i write this in this section of the Diamond general thread and made a double post at PDACornerIllusion development thread
I suggest you perform a hard reset before flashing any new rom and that you use the traditional "flash-from-PC-using-ActiveSync-connection" method to flash.
And above all I wish you luck!
What was the other ROM you flashed? I am curious.
rondol1 suggests you hard reset prior to flashing a new rom. I suggest you hard reset after flashing a new rom. Net result is probaby much the same. You could even just do a hard reset now with whatever is loaded and things will probably improve. Main thing is...whenever you flash a rom do a hard reset straight after loading it. I always do this religiously and with the exception of one recent rom I tried I have never had a problem.
First of all, thank you both for trying to suggest hints, i really appreciate it.
I've never hard reset the ROM before or after having installed a new one. I never have a problem before.
For the last 2 months, i was on NEON 1.28, then i've decided it was time to update seeing the new features of the more up-to-date ROMs
I've just reflashed it (an hour ago) with PDACornerIllusion 21139, i've hard reseted before and after. let's see how it turns out ....
I've tried NATALY, CLOUDY, MORNA & AZTOR, no luck with any of them, all died after a soft reset or after the 1st sync (reconnecting for a 2nd sync).
Maybe the problem comes from the very root of the phone (like BIOS in a PC, dunno), maybe something in there got corrupted. How to repair it if my guess exists and is it repairable?

There in lies the problem.
I bet you will be fine from now on. Don't ask why you need to do the hard reset - as no one has been able to give a definitive answer - But it is a well known step that many chefs recommend post flash - just do it from now on and you wont regret it.

completely agree with logger - hard reset after you flash any ROM. I haven't used PDACorner - so can't say for sure... but do the flash via CustomRUU once... when the new ROM is flashed... do a hard reset as soon as it's complete..
good luck!
let's see then, >>>>crossing fingers<<<<
I've had this happen a lot lately as well. Might have something to do with the newer SYS? Anyway, hard reseting hasn't always fixed it for me. However, flashing back to the Sprint stock ROM (or HTC stock for you GSM guys) then flashing a new custom ROM has always done the trick. Maybe because the stock ROMs are bigger and "clean" out the memory somehow? At any rate, flash stock and then you're good to go. No permanent damage.
no luck, after a 2nd soft-reset, the phone is asking "touch the screen to configure for the 1sy use blablabla", all data's lost again & again...
what do you mean by stock Rom ? the rom that came with my phone when i've bought it ?
I've got the same problem with the Diamond rebooting like a hard-reset. But I always did a hard-reset after a fresh install. I blamed it on the rom and tried several others, including donsalari's "Clean Basic Rom", the Gen.Y Sense 2.1 and 2.5 versions and an older Aztor rom. Same problem every time, the first reboot after changing the device locale works fine, then I set the whole phone up properly and on the next reboot it will come up as if had performed a hard reset.
Additionally, the file system on my internal storage got corrupted somehow, had to reformat. At some point, I also had the impression that data on the phone memory got lost gradually. First the Contact's numbers got replaced by some nonsense characters, then there were numbers and contacts missing, and finally I had no contacts at all. ActiveSync stopped working so I was in the middle of a trip without my phonebook...
I've got two hypotheses:
1) The Gen.Y bootloader messed with the phone (Had tried the Sense 2.5 Gen.Y rom before donsalari's)
2) Flash controller or Flash itself is broken
@dunnno: I suggest you rename the thread to something like "diamond hard-resets on 2nd reboot after rom install"
edit: oops, just realised I resurrected a very old thread... Maybe there's a fix already?
My diamond still suffers from this problem. I tried it again and again with different roms but everytime, at some point all my configuration is lost and the diamond reboots like after a fresh install. Can anyone please help?
I'm having this problem as well :|
Grr, I have to rely on my phone for so much, but it just doesn't want to work correctly.
Help is immensely appreciated.
Well, I got mine to work, I just flashed the stock HTC ROM and everything has gone back to normal. H3PO, I suggest you give that a shot if you are still having problems.
I had these problems when I first started flashing my Diamond with custom roms.
Now I always flash my carrier stock rom first, then hard reset, then flash custom rom, then hard reset and I never have any problems. I have no idea why flashing the stock rom first stops the problems but I haven't had any problems with the dozens of roms I've flashed using this method.
Also I always flash from internal storage, but others prefer using MTTY
I still have some problems with the Contact Database, but flashing some stock O2 Rom solved the "reboot as new" problem.
Hi everyone,
Used cooked roms for a while now, used to use them on my tytn as well.
I have been having such a bad time with my touch HD, i thought it was time to ask what's going on with you lot.
Basically, my touch HD has been running so slow for a while now, that it can even be hit and miss if i answer a incoming call. It even takes 2/3 rings before the ringtone starts up!
I have used miri's wm6.5 v16, but recently updated to he's manilla 2.5 ROM to see if that improved things, it hasn't.
I have radio 1.14 installed along with 1.56oli.
Could i be doing something wrong or is there software out there i have installed that is restricting my touch hd?
Battery life aint too bad so i can't really see it being that.
Any help would be great, my phone is angering me! haha
many thanks for any help!

have you tried flashing back to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501583&highlight=RUU+blackstone rom?
no, ok, i will take a look at doing that then.
Will i have any issues other than the one stated about hardspl with going back to stock?
If i were to install this, would i then be able to try cooked ROM's again or would i likely see the same as what is happening now? (slow device)
Thanks for the link btw

i am well experience with USPL but nil with HSPL, i have been flashing back and forth stock and any latest Manila 2.5xxxx ROMs using USPL. you can search HSPL thread and look for ways in order for you to flash stock rom and reflash cooked roms.
It sounds like you've correct SPL for rom your using, i.e. SPL 1.56.Olinex, so it shouldn't be a problem with HSPL. You've also tried a different rom which also didn't fix your issue so I'd suggest what jigners said above and restore stock SPL & rom, then re-use dummies guide before flashing cooked rom again.
Alternatively check on Miri thread incase there are issues with his latest rom(s)? If so, there are plenty of other chef's and alternative cooked roms to try before you try restoring stock
maybe you want to try kwbr's Topix rom, it's wm6.1 and fast
I would say go back to stock ROM and start all over again.
Good combo is:
SPL 1.56
EnergyROM
Latest radio is a bit disappointing for me so i am on 1.14.25.24 with its rilphone.dll
Remember to flash with no memory card inside and to do a hard reset after the flash
By the way, have you hard reseted your device after flashing a new rom?
If not then do the hard reset for 2/3 times and observe the performance.
Furthermore, remove the SD card from the device and check the same. Defective SD card simulates the same problem because system requires lot more time to access it.
OK, i have gone back to stock firmware (well most recent offical release anyway)
All seems ok at the moment, it's been up and running for a couple days smoothly now.
I will take a look at the dummies guide and get back to cooked soon.
And yes, i do a hard reset everytime i have flashed, but only, i will try that next time i put cooked ware on the phone. (hopefully later today).
thanks for all the help,
Hi All,
I have used the search function - but ended up getting confused.
I have a Touch HD that I bought in January of this year (2009) from Mobiles.co.uk (Carphone Warehouse) and is on the O2 network (UK).
I have been using Dutty's ROMs (both 6.1 and 6.5) for months now - and have always used USPL when flashing, using the SD card method.
Over the past 3 days, my HD has been playing up.
When it started, I was using Dutty's R7. The radio was 1.14.something.something. The device was working perfectly, and I was really happy with the ROM and the way the phone was working. I had installed NO other applications with the exception of a different taskbar and obviously SDKCerts.cab
First of all, HTC Sense stopped working - it would cycle between "Loading HTC Sense" and "Tap here to launch HTC Sense"
Then, when rebooting the device, it just hung on the "Smart Mobility" screen. I left it in case it just needed a while to boot, but nothing.
I had no other option than to hard reset.
It worked OK for a few hours, but then HTC Sense started to crash again. So I flashed a new ROM - Lost in Asia or whatever it is called.
Same symptoms.
I flashed Dutty's R7 back and also the new 1.17 radio.
No joy.
The phone also hangs for ages on the Smart Mobility screen - perhaps a full minute where as before, it used to be no more than 15 seconds or so.
The following is displayed on the "Smart Mobility Screen"
1.17.25.09
52.69.25.37H
1.59.Dutty
The bootloader screen (before running USPL) shows the following:
BLAC100 32M
SPL-1.54.0000
MicroP-BlackStone (LED) V6
So the question I'm asking - is... Is my phone suffering some kind of hardware malfunction, or is this a known and fixable fault that I somehow have caused?
If the phone looks like it is malfunctioning, how would I go about returning it to stock so that the CPWH repair centre do not know it's had an unofficial ROM installed?
I'd like to add that whilst I'm very PC literate, I'm no programmer and a lot of the stuff here is alien to me hence my confusion - I just know how to flash a new ROM etc.
Thanks to anyone that takes the time to help me - I'd be really thankful to anyone that helps me sort this - be it tell me how to fix the device, or tells me to take it back!
Thanks in advance & Regards,
Chris.
Will D/L and flash Dutty's R0 Holy Grail ROM and see if that makes a difference...
If you've been using uspl than it will still be the stock spl and thus you could try to load the stock rom from htc.com specially designed for the touch hd(blackstone). I've read and heard from a lot of people that after flashing several roms and even hard resetting afterwards, some bits and pieces stay behind and flashing an original stock rom will undo this. I don't think it's a radio issue. And another big thing if you use dutty R7 that's a 1.56+ rom so you should have the right uspl olinex software to load these roms, if you used older software then problems with colouring and other things will appear.

Thanks for the quick reply.
So is it perhaps better to revert to the original ROM before flashing a cooked ROM? I always Hard Reset twice after flashing as understand this helps.
OK - so the 1.56+ situation - I was under the impression that using the latest USPL (2.5) when flashing was OK? I have never had the colour problem... but perhaps if I'm flashing wrong then these problems could be to do with this?
Thanks again...
Chris
The Sense Manila has known bug that you need to press home to load it (sometimes).
For you case, I would suggest you to clean up your SD Card.
there may be several file that cause your system to freeze.
So, format your SD, hard reset.. and cross fingers.
Yes, It is better to revert to the original rom once in a while before flashing a new rom, if u used the latest uspl and the colours are ok, then you've done that right and it will probably be bits and pieces of old flashed roms floating around on the device.
Best to revert to stock rom and hard reset twice.
Afterwards flash the rom u want. If everything works again. U could hspl instead of uspl, hspl is more stable if u ask me. And you can go back to stock spl if you have waranty issues. there's a tut on that to in the rom section.

I forgot to mention - that was one of the things I did. Previously, I had loads of email folders from all the ROM installs.
Now I have a folder containing the useful CAB files that I need, and the ROM image file. Thats it.
It's only a 1gb card as my 8gb card gave up the ghost.
Thanks for the suggestion though and my apologies for not mentioning this in the initial post.
From reading the Dummies guide, am I right in thinking that in order to use a 1.55+ ROM (such as Dutty's Holy Grail R0) I only need to run USPL and then flash (as opposed to flash a newer SPL) as my stock SPL is already 1.54?

Thanks for this - I didnt realise the device would retain bits and bobs, and you may well be right in that things are getting corrupted in there!
Which is the best stock ROM to flash - is there a link to one? I looked on the Wiki and there seem to be loads... which will work on a UK T8282?!
Thanks again!

what do you mean hang for age?
1 minute is nothing if it turns out boot up.
There are chances that the nand flash needs to refresh and wasted some times. But it won't be forever.

there's an original rom on htc.com for blackstone just use that one.
hope it will turn out right for you
I thought I'm the only one who had this problem. Last Sunday my blackstone started to freeze on the smart mobility screen too. I flash 3 different roms because I thought its an rom issue with no luck. On Monday it even managed to hardreset itself after I waited for about 15 min in the smart mobility screen.
After that I flashed a stock rom and it seem to be fine by now.
But now I will flash a custom again, the stock one is so 6.1
After i flash rom. When my HD phone hang, so take out the battery and put it back to restart it .. the whole phone will reset to default..... just same like brand new phone without setting. it happen many times, what happen on my HD ?
Have you tried using the red reset button next to the SD card slot?
Yes i do , i try many kind of restart , but when my HD hang ... i restart it. it will back to default setting
if it happens always with the same rom, i suggest you try to change rom and see if that happens again. if it happens with different roms, you should flash back your stock default rom and then proceed flashing another custom rom and see if it does it again. Many times reverting to stock rom from time to time has been proven to solve some weird behaviours.
I would suggest flashing stock rom first before following this guide to flash a cooked rom again

Did you use either HSPL or USPL before flashing rom? You will need to use one of these or your HD will hang. If you are having difficulty with that guide, post your query in that thread
I have got mine reset to default too.
My rom is Xannytech 2.2
HD Hangs. After a reset, it returns to the setup progress.
The setup progress is the setup progress of installation.
After the installation, calibrate the screen, set time zone.
the rom returns to function!!!
I am lucky I have saved all my data in the SD card, and backup my contact list and sms in Myphone.
It is quite a good auto recovery system.
The only application I installed is chinese font and htc 6.1 chinese input method.
Before the HD phone hangs, it is running opera 9.7.
I have ~ 500 contacts. and 300 sms..
As per Fallen Spartan's question above, have you used either USPL or HSPL before you flashed?

Whats your SPL in bootloader? Was USPL or HSPL successful? Did you hard reset after flashing rom?
I had exactly the same problem after using xannys 2.2 rom. I'm using Hardspl. Even reflashed HSPL but it didnt help.
What did help was to flash another rom (Xnors) multiple times. Since that my phone did not hang again.

I am sure Xannys 2.2 have this problem , i have already flash many many rom for more than one year is no problem.
The same happens to me but with all the roms (Xanny, Sh3lby 1.10/1.9/1.7 (although they were working fine), Xnor and PDAViet).
Do you know where I can find a stock rom?

Actually problems appear when I use Myphone. 2 options:
- Either it finished and then it freezes randomly from then, hard-reset itself, never complete it, reboot and get stuck on the black screen with radio information.
- Either it doesn't finish and when I try to exit/stop the program, it freezes and same than above happens.
Trying to get back to stock rom but battery's still not at 50% charge. So waiting a bit and playing with it without using myphone to see if it get blocked again...

Yes, i use HSPL (ISO-8859-1''HSPLWrapper_Blackstone_156OliNex ) , then the rom i flash is RUU_Dutty's_HD_WM6.5_5_Leo_R7 .
Well , i try to combine some of the opinion and flash rom again, this is what i do :
Step 1. I flash back the original rom ( RUU_BlackStone_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.18.707.3_Radio_52.49a.25.26_1.09.25.14_Ship ) . then hard reset twice.
Step 2. Then install HSPL (ISO-8859-1''HSPLWrapper_Blackstone_156OliNex ), then reset twice .
Step 3. Flash custom rom ( RUU_Dutty's_HD_WM6.5_5_Leo_R7 ), the reset twice .
Today is my second day after flash... so not sure will have the same old problem happen .... i wish nothing happen and can use smooth
I experienced the same issue with Miri V 14.0 two days ago. I never believe it does happen until it happened to me despite the fact that I always flash a custom rom before flashing any cooked rom.
Mine first came up with a message that I need to reset my device to factory settings because I have installed an application that is not compatible or not signed on my phone, message was when I performed a soft rest after phone freeze.
Hello everyone and sorry for starting a new thread with so many threads already about installing custom ROMs. So sorry again....
First of all I want to say that I have installed Saturday my first custom ROM.
1. I installed HardSPL
2. I installed ROM (I got an error first time because my usb got diconnected - tricolour boot screen and an error code - could not see it; second time everything worked fine and I have now a new great looking ROM
3. I did not installed Radio.
1st question: Do I have to install Radio everytime I install a new ROM or is it ok if I keep my old Radio? - the phone works just fine.
Second question: Do I have to HardSPL everytime I install a new ROM?
Please be kind and reply to my questions even if it must have been already posted in some thread.
rarely can i answer a question but yours are easy LOL
You don't need to do your radio because the radio you have is untouched by roms.
Likewise if you do a radio it wont change your rom.
Radio's probably will not make much diffrence.
Once you have Hard spl it is done.
You can then flash as many roms as you want , but Hard Spl is just once
No and No.
Thank you guys.
The radio is stored on a different part of the memory then the ROM, so it doesn't get replaced when you flash a ROM (unless the ROM specifically includes it, like the new "official leaked" ATT ROM). And custom ROMs will never include the radio, that I know of.
A newer radio version MAY get you better battery life or GPS reception. But it can be very specific to your geographic location. It your choice whether to update your radio or not, its certainly not required. If you want, you are free to experiment, as you can always go back to the old radio if the new one doesn't work out. The process for flashing a new radio is essentially the same as flashing a ROM, except the actual process if done very fast.
As already mentioned, you only need to HardSPL once. The only way phone will become SPL locked back to factory condition is if you specifically do so using the provided relocker program on the SPL thread (for instance, to return the phone for warranty repair).
