Dust Under Screen...

I've always heard about this problem with htc and getting dust underneath their screens but I never thought it would happen to me on my first HTC phone.
Has anyone found any video tutorials or guide on how to take apart the Vivid?

I had a similar experience...
Okay, here we go:
I noticed dust under my screen the day after I got it--definitely a defect. I finally had a chance to take it back to the corp. store where I got it last Saturday and spoke to a CSR. She obviously had no clue what to do, so she went and spoke to her manager, when she came back she explained that her manager told her that it was "just something that would happen over time" and that it was essentially "normal" to accumulate dust under the screen of a $500-$600 device...
I was surprised at a such an explanation and could see that she was nervous about then having to tell me that her manager was not willing to replace it because he didn't consider it a defect (since he considered it to be a "normal" thing) and that the best thing to do was to "just buy a case for it"... I didn't feel like arguing, so I ended up speaking to customer care, who was surprised by what the manager said, and called the store and basically told me that the manager explained the situation and I could exchange the phone for any other device, just not the same make and model... This was the point were I got pretty pissed off
I called HTC and spoke to a rep who said it definitely was not "normal" for this to happen... Well, I wanted to inform AT&T of this, so I tried customer care again and spoke to a very understanding lady that totally agreed with me about the issue--that, defect or not, I should be able to exchange the phone. She wasn't totally sure how to help so she connected me with tech support/warranty claims. The girl I spoke to in that department agreed with me to, saying that she had "never noticed an issue like this in any touchscreen device" that she ever owned. She was nice enough to call another corp. store in the area, because "obviously that manager you ran into today doesn't know what he's talking about", and worked out a replacement.
The moral of the story is, try and get that sucker replaced before busting it open and voiding the warranty. Tell them that you didn't shell out hundreds of dollars for dust under the screen... I really hope that helps!
TLDR: Noticed dust under screen day after purchase, took back to store, was denied replacement because manager considered dust under screen "normal occurrence over a period of time", called HTC and confirmed that this was NOT a "normal occurrence", called customer care back and ended up with a replacement via another corp. store. So try and get it replaced before busting it open and voiding the warranty..
Edit: I am aware that people have noticed dust under screens of other HTC devices over a period of time, but I still don't think that this should be considered "normal" as a way for a store manager to weasel his way out of replacing a week old phone..
After taking out the Vivid from my pocket, even more dust got under the screen.

That really sounds like a defect to me...
I feel your pain. I had the same issue with the Inspire 4G with dust getting underneath the screen. It's like getting dust under the screen protector except you can't get it out. What I ended up doing is returning it within the 30 day period and purchased another one. That's when I started using a case with my Inspire and dust no longer gets in. It's kind of funny considering I'm using a case with my Vivid and Inspire not for protection (I'm VERY careful and never drop my phone) but for the fact that it keeps the crevices around the screen covered so that dust won't get in.
I'm primarily a Samsung device owner since I started using Android and never had this problem. I thought HTC was build quality king?

Looks like they don't fuse their screens properly. If I get this problem when I get my Vivid, I'll return it instantly and get another one.
If it happens 3 times within the 30 days, I'll get the skyrocket.
Well I bought my phone off contract so I can't exactly return it. I'll just have to wait until someone makes a guide on how to disassemble the phone.

+1. Even phones that are bought offcontract are still subject to the 30 day return window. That is what I was told from my corp. Store when I bought my Inspire offcontract at the end of Feb. It don't matter how you paid for it, if it has dust under the screen, you are within 30 days and you have the same right as someone who upgraded to the Vivid to get a replacement.

My Xperia T arrived with a problem :(

Hey all,
Just got an Xperia T today from Vodafone UK. Initial impressions are good, feels really nice in hand, not feeling like it will topple from my hand if I don't support it from the top. Sadly, mine arrived with a build problem along the bottom right. The top and bottom halves are not attached correctly, leaving a few mm gap and a bulge on the bottom half of the phone.

I can imagine that hard cases will not clip onto the phone without problems. Have to wait til Tuesday to get another!
Coming from a Galaxy S3 which has stopped working entirely, totally dead out of the blue, so this isn't the best return to Sony for me
I hope, you will be fine with your next T.
And I really hope, that this is not going to happen to me.
I imagine its a one off, looks it anyway.
Kinda annoying as my S3 stopped working last Saturday so its been a week without a phone as is! I can't get attached to this one as I'll lose everything on it and have to configure again when new one comes!
Initial impressions are good, much prefer stock Sony to HTC and Samsung, but would be hoping for some Paranoid Android down the line

hate it when that happens well u can try to get them to service it or exchange
S3 is going to Samsung for repair early next week
T should be doorstep swapped on Tuesday

Don't worry. Mine has just been put together wrong! I can't imagine it'll be a common occurrence
I'm not getting attached to this one so I'll update the thread when the new one comes

Honestly i didnt see the problem until i saw it was put together wrongly! gl
As I said earlier, use the backup and restore app, can backup to SD or external USB and it will keep app info, so when you restore you should have everything the same
Not long to wait
Won't get it til Wednesday now apparently due to delays caused by iPhone 5 orders

[Q] How Old!!

Hi guys,
just to ask you how old is your O2x device?
Mine is almost 2y old.
Did anyone ever encounter any malfunction with the device after the warranty ran out.
Need some info.
Thx
same for me, in december it will be 2 years old lol
i never gotten any problems, i've been running custom roms since day 1
mine is 1,5 years old
My old O2X would have rouned two years in February, but ended defective due to little rain damage around two months ago. My current O2X has been around for about 1½ year.
Wonder why I got another O2X? Why not when I only paid €20 for it?
13 months..

I still can't believe my screen has only like one minor scratch.

mine is 18 Month old now
btw: I wonder how it can be 2 years old in December , when the SU660 got Released in January 2011 in Korea

In my 13 months, I've had a screen protector on for like 12 3/4.. I got one scratch from that one week without
Not super noticeable but deep enough to see.
Otherwise, my phones pretty ruined on the exterior. Battle scars on every corner, back cover has no glass and is cracked etc.

Nearly 2 years old. Never ever probs with hw. 1st accu is also ok.
Stock ROM (20q) was very slow and what I mean some buggy. Thus a month ago I installed CM7.2!! This
ROM is amazing .
I thought the P990 became a new machine. Many thanks to the developers.
I would buy again.

Mine is 10 mnths old, had few problems the front touch screen was changed as there was a gap, have replaced the back panel twice and also its replacable in your warranty also the motherboard is changed due to power switch replacement. In short I have had a new phone assembled by LG and all in warranty not a penny spent by me.

Screen lift

Got this tablet yesterday for x mas and all ready noticing the screen lift on the left hand side. I can get my nail between the Bessel and screen. It is within warranty for the store return, do u guys suggest returning it? Will it get worst?
Why wouldn't you return it? If it started to lift now it will only get worse. Take it back.

NP and yeah its hard to put it down but you will thank yourself in the long run. Its a great device and for the price you can't beat it.I got mine as an early Xmas gift from my wife. I use it all the time now and my phone is just doing tethering duty.

Couldn't agree more, my galaxy note has been retired to backup device, luv the tablet, a wee bit disheartening about the screen but that should be fixed soon.
Mine also has screen lift issues. I got mine from Walmart and bought their two year warranty (got 10% off my purchase so it was like buying it from anywhere else) so I'll just keep using it until it gets real bad and then get a replacement.

Dunno on the batch no but my nexus with the problem is 32 gigs
I bought the nexus at launch and went through three devices with such bad screen lift I could fit a dime under them. Gave up and decided to wait until Christmas - the one I just got is much better but the left side still is flush with the bevel. I'm just gonna keep it, I'm sick of returns. Last Asus tablet I'll ever buy that's for sure.

i have the nexus 7 32gb model i got for christmas and i noticed the left side the rim is almost flush with the bevel and the right isnt but it isn't really a problem for me you dont notice it, well at least i didnt until i read this lol
if you can put a nail between it then yeah you really need to return it, my problem comes and goes as it seems a bit...."moody".
I have a few friends with 16 and 32gb nexi and they haven't had the problem. I bought the first batch of 8gb ones
This issue has been going on since the tablet came out. It's really sad to see that asus hasn't fixed it yet. I'll be waiting until someone else makes a nexus tablet, i'm done with asus. They are dead to me
Thanks man works charm

For the record, I have a day 1 Nexus 7 with some minor screen lift that has not gotten worse at all. Some spongyness on one tiny part of the screen and that's it.
It's up to you Op. If minor screen lift is the only issue with the device you could always run the risk of replacing it with a device with more issues. If it bothers you enough, definitely try and get a device that is perfect. But if you only noticed the screen lift with a microscope due to the nuttiness that is these forums, you might be OK with what you have.

Just took the back plate off, and tightened the screws on the left side. No more screen lift,. carefully put cover plate back on , and I'm happy I did it.

Ur quite right, I got an xperia play last year that after an hour using touch screen would muck up, spent a month replacing it and wait in for a return on it only to find its really a problem with xperia play in general, and I would b running the risk of a worst one, it does annoy me tho but it is only an ocd way, I'm sure it wouldn't get worst as its not so much the screen lift in from the unit but the unit rising above the left side of the bezel. I'm pass in the shop in a few days anyway, might try one return, if it has the same problem just stick with it as I don't want to spend another month with the hastle of returns, and I do have the years warranty with it anyway but I do think I've a point that I could return it and get something worst,
Well, you can try this if you want, it worked for me.
I say break it send it in and get a new one
You could have used the search function, found one of the myriad of threads that discuss the **** out of this issue and posted in that rather that clutter the forums with conversation that has been talked about before.
I always thought that one of the rules here on XDA is search first before making a new thread.
Little bug bear of mine wading through threads that have been done to death!

How many times have you had your Nexus 6 replaced / RMA'd?

The "Nexus 6 Trash or Treasure" thread made me curious. I'm seeing so many people replying saying Treasure but yet I'm on my 2nd Nexus 6 in less than a year and it's already acting wonky. My phone acts up so much I feel like I'm "jailed" to only using stock ROMs, without xposed, unrooted. It's been probably the worst experience I've had since I switched to Android. And I know others who have had their Nexus 6 replaced by Google over half a dozen times...
So - how many times have you had your phone replaced / RMA'd by Google? Did I just happen to get a bad replacement from Google or are these phones that prone to hardware failures?
Once
Only once during warranty period as I was having battery issues: the replacement is great and still a champ and going strong over a year now.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I had it RMAed once for the common battery-bulge issue. I then had to immediately replace the replacement device because the camera was jumping around the screen. That third device had the same camera issue but I decided to live with it because I was fed up with having to pay Motorola $25 every time for an advance replacement.
I broke my screen last week and found a used, mostly-mint condition, one for $110 so now I'm on my 4th. This new one doesn't have the camera issue so that's a plus.
EDIT: I voted "2" because that's how many times I actually RMAed it. I didn't count the broken screen since that was my fault. But in retrospect I should have said 3 since I would have RMAed that third one if they didn't charge you $25 every time.
Once because the back had begun to peel slightly at the edges - in hindsight I shouldn't have bothered, but I didn't know at the time that it was simple to stick it down or replace it with another back. But Google didn't quibble - I got a replacement straight away and was never without a device.
None here, minor crack I put in the corner of the glass, but no battery or performance issues so far.

None, I have not had one issue with my Nexus 6. I've had it almost a year now.
Zero. No problems. I even soaked the phone completely in water to clean it out. No issues
One.
Purchased on day three of release(what a pain that was) through Moto. Within 3 months battery bulged.
I contacted Moto. They said they'd be happy to replace but I never sent it haha.. Shelved it instead and went back to ol' trusty DNA.
Recently pulled it out and decided it had been long enough. Bought a replacement battery and glue sticker and went to work on a DIY fix(I'm a tinkerer at heart).
Needless to say its running flawlessly. Rooted & Rom'd.. New battery is staying extremely cool compared to original.
Sorry to hear about all the trouble people are having with this device
