Overclock nexus one with stock froyo 2.2 - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I would like to overclock my google nexus one and I've read some 3d about it.
Is possible overclock the nexus one with official 2.2 froyo (but rooted) ?
thanks

Firstly this should not be asked in this section.
Secondly, yes it can, google search setcpu xda, that will help you out.
Admin: can you move this to q and a please ;

You can't overclock unless you have an overclocked kernel, so it wouldn't be "stock" froyo. Try a wildmonks or pershoot kernel. You'll find both in the dev section.
I honestly don't know why anyone would need an extra 113 Hz, as it could damage your processor, and you wont notice any visible difference. But to each his own I guess...

[Q] Overclock?

Thanks for all the info on here that I used to root my NC and sideload apps. I was wondering since we have seen that an OC is possible during the root process, what is needed to make an overclocked kernel for the NC?
The stock kernel isn't going to allow it, but it should be possible on custom kernels.
Then again I may be completely talking out of my ass.
Well we were waiting on the source but thats been released sp now we need someone to build a custom kernel ...and ofcourse i can and probably am talking out of my ass but i think that sounds right

See this post. I tried it one more time and I think the touch sensitivity is just my imagination. As far as performance is concerned, it doesn't seem to make any appreciable difference.
The 3630 and 3621 voltages in the power profiles probably need to be mixed and matched since the normal 3621 profile is at a lower voltage at the same speeds as the 3630.

FAQs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11436660&postcount=11 (Thanks Alienz!)
Yes, the kernel is still based on the i9000 JPX source release. Hopefully we get real source soon.
Main Features:
NEAR STOCK BATTERY!!! (Thanks Morfic!)
Overclock up to 1.4Ghz.
BLN (Backlight Notifications).. A basic app is included to turn it on if you want it
Voodoo lagfix v5
Voodoo Sound v4
Many parts of the "speedmod" patch from the i9000 forum
OC is based on raspdep's OC patches, also from the i9000 forum
Various speed tweaks
CIFS/SMB and NFS support compiled in (no modules)
Tunnel support compiled in (no modules)
Changes since 3.2:
New boot logo. (Thanks Alexia!)
Added battery drain fix in standby discovered by Morfic. Should be about the same battery as stock now.
Voltages and frequency scaling have been adjusted to more quickly jump to higher frequencies and come down slower. Improves response time while you use the phone.
The Voltage Control app has the correct voltages, I recommend leaving the lower speeds alone to start with. Going too low can cause the sleep of death. That's why they are as high as they are. NOTE: The voltage control app does not control the available states they way the older ones do. That screen is useless, ignore it. Set your max and scheduler if you wish, and the voltages if you want to change them.
SetCPU.... If you want to use it, you can have it set min/max. If you set profiles, don't set the max under 800. The phone needs 800 to be available. I use a screen off profile at 100-800 just to keep the OC disabled while sleeping. No reason it should need to really crank up the speed if I'm not looking at it. SetCPU is NOT required, I'm offering this as a tip for fans of that application.
The kernel has proven stable for a number of testers so far. If you get crashes, disable any OC/UV settings and try again. I recommend you only change one setting at a time, and NOT set at boot until you have run for a while to ensure you can run stable at that voltage/speed.
Great job testing it out now. Edit: screen is a little dark but the kernel is super smooth

I am considering flashing this new kernel but have a couple of questions I would like to ask first. I am currently on Bionix V 1.21 and love it. Is this kernel compatible with Bionix V 1.21? It appears that this kernel is Voodoo enabled so I presume I would not have to disable voodoo. If I decide to go back to the Kb1 with voodoo enabled which I believe is the stock kernel for Bionix V 1.21 would i just flash the kernel( is is available on TW forum?)or would I have to flash the whole rom again? I would think I would not have to but want to be sure before I leap. I would not like to have to ask for help for problems that could have been avoided by reading and asking questions. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Is it ok to not use set cpu? Will this kernel will oc over 1000?

Im not sure if you have to disable voodoo or not .. probably not but don’t take my word for it and no you do not have to flash the whole rom again, just the kernel. Thanks for not clogging up the forums. Lol I know its hard to ask questions in the vibrant forums, (cause you'll get beaten to death with mean comments) but ask them anyway, someone will answer eventually. It is compatible with Bionix 1.2.1, that's what I developed it on.
If you have the red voodoo recovery, there is no need to disable voodoo for flashing. Generally speaking, kernels can be flashed without disabling voodoo in any case.
This is what iv'e done, I've lowered my Volts on some clocks, 1000 and up, and I was wondering should/can I use setcpu for profiles?
Answers to COMMON questions:
1. Can I flash this over Voodoo or RFS (stock)
You do NOT need to disable Voodoo. Flash right over Voodoo or RFS kernels. Make sure you are not running JFS though. JFS is not supported
2. How is stability? Does it crash? Sleep of death? etc?
Stability on this is AMAZING. It will not crash unless you overclock/undervolt and your settings are unstable. If that is the case, you know its your settings.
3. Do I need SetCPU to overclock?
You do not need to use SetCPU (You can if you want to). Use the Voltage Control App to overclock.
4. How do I overclock? Can I use this without an overclock?
By default, the kernel will boot to 1.0Ghz. To OVERCLOCk to 1.4Ghz (or lower) you need to use the app that this kernel installs during the flash. The app is called "Voltage Controll" and can be found in your app drawer after the flash
5. What is the battery life?
Battery life should be close to stock now. The battery drain issue that was present in the I9000-based kernels earlier has been solved.
6. Does this support BLN (Back-light-notificaations)?
Yes. You need the BLN control app from the market to use it.
7. How do I use Voodoo sound? What is it?
Voodoo sound is a vast improvement to the sound quality of your phone. To use it, download the Voodoo Control app from the Market.
8. What ROMs is this compatible with?
This is compatible with ALL Vibrant Froyo ROMS. This means 2.2 ROMS made for the Vibrant. 2.2.1 is not yet tested but should theoretically work.
I hope this helps.

You can use setcpu for profiles, just keep 800Mhz available. The phone will likely crash if you don't. I set a screen off profile of 100-800 to keep the oc disabled when I don't need it, as 800 is a lower voltage.
Hint with voltages, try to keep 1000 and higher at the SAME voltage. Changing the voltage too often can cause instability as the voltage regulator doesn't adjust as fast as we would like sometimes. OC makes this worse as you need a higher voltage to maintain a stable CPU at the higher frequency. The kernel is set to jump to 1000, then to the max set clock speed. Setting 1000 to the higher voltage gives us some extra time to stabilize the new voltage before the just into the OC speeds.

just flashed this..
and a few questions ive never used OC before..
What does VOODOO Sound really do?
I set my thing on SetCPU as 1.4ghz as max and .1 as low with conservative.
then a profile with screen off and on conservative.
will those save battery?

SetCPU by itself will NOT overclock. You need to use the Voltage app that comes with the kernel. See my above post with the Common questions.
I'd like any of the kernels developers gave me a clue about an issue im having with all custom i9000 based kernels (eugene's and TW's). The problem is with line2 voip app which calls isn't heard in the other end when running these kernels, but in stock/voodoo it works just fine. Please any of you have an idea of what could be going wrong?
thanks.
Okay tested so far, everything is working good (undervolted to about 175 for lower clocks 100-1000 and 75 for higher clocked 1200-1400)
Don't try this, as every phone can't handle some things, i'm just stating.
EDIT: I'm seriously stupid, how do I remove the settings again? I know it's in system/ something
Edit: NEVERMIND fixed
I've never used an OC kernel, was thinking of giving it a try. If I decide its not for me is this like removing a voodoo injected kernel, disable, then flash a diff kernel then delete files?

[Q] OC and lagfix kernel for stock Froyo rom ? plz help

Hi,
I have been looking all over for an OC kernel that will either allow a lag fix to be applied or comes with lag fix for the stock Froyo rom.. I would prefer at least 1400Mhz OC as my phone runs fine at this speed, Ive used several oc kernels for testing but they are rom specific CM7 Contiuum ect.
I was hoping that someone had converted the DoW vibrant kernel to captivate because it seems to be exactly what Im looking for but I cant find anything similar
I apologize if this question has been asked but Ive been searching for roughly a week and I cant bare it any longer...
One other thing Im interested in is fps cap being removed so if anyone could help me understand that a little more Id appreciate it... Ive read a little and also used a kernel claiming to have removed it but I dont get much of a differnce in fps tests....
Thank you soo much in advanced,
Noopy

Thank you... Flashing now
Ok so I flashed the kernel seems to be working fine although i noticed a big differnce in the voodoo lagfix over OCLF.. Does voodoo use ext4?
Also about the fps cap is there any oc kernels for the captivate stock froyo w/o the fps cap?
At one point i had actually flashed the DoW kernel to my captivate and the speed was amazing.. I know quadrant standard isnt the most reliable for testing speed but I could get steady 2500+ of course the button mapping isnt the same and the g sensor was a wack but im interested in possible converting it if someone could direct me to the proper resources ill be glad to give it a shot..

you would have to flash an i9000 modem if you want to use a reoriented i9000 kernel like that.

Yes i did but i didnt flash the kernel untill i gor home sorry i shouldve read over it again
The reasoni asked about voodoo lagfix is because OCLF uses ext2 and i noticed a significant speed decreaae wheb moving to voodoos...
As far as the fps cap it says its removed however i get no increase in fps... Ive achieved 65 w a previous kernel so my current 50 fps just doesnt seem right for cap being removed

CM7 + Kernel?

Hello everyone,
I am a newcomer to the O2X world. My previous device was an Xperia X10 and having that device for a long time it was fairly easy to follow the forums and know what route to go, which rom to get or kernel, etc.. Now being introduced to Rom Manager, and this phenomenal (to me) device its like starting all over again. I flashed to CM7.1 nightly (yesterday) and the device just only seems to get better and better, although being honest, I truly loved the Music App 2.2.2 had, as well as the camera. I tinkered around a little to get those to work without any success yet.
In any event, my real question is about the kernels... running CM7.1 nightly, what is a recommended Kernel to switch to? I am not looking to overclock the device as I feel it just isn't necessary (used to the Xperia), so Im just looking to get any fixes, tweaks, been hearing about Voodoo Sound etc to just solidify the phone.. might someone be able to point me in the right direction? I had been reading the forums for days now since I got the device but still haven't found what route to go as all the features are completely new to me.
Any help would much much be appreciated! and I must add, there are mixed reviews on the O2X but my take thus far, Im completely blown away.
vorkkernel and swiftextreme
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059910 - vork
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325183 - swiftextreme
vork is good in ironing out cm and showing off large score in tests like(quantrant etc.) while
swiftextreme is very good on batterylife
but I still prefer stock cm kernel
welcome to the o2x forums btw

hi, welcome
i stick to vorkkernel(normal version), you can get app to install in market for free.
i run it on 1,2 Ghz, with sleep profile in setcpu with 816Mhz.
gives me about 35hrs battery life and great speed in everyday use.
I am on CM7 with swiftkernel, [email protected],2GHz and I am really satisfied. I get 36-48h of normal use with 3G on and the 2x runs as hell.
Only drawback from the swiftkernel: You get a wakeup delay (1 sec.) because the kernel locks the cpu down to 256MHz when the screen is off. (Which results in a higher standbytime.
Hah, I remember my X10, used to run TripNraver MIUI on that does he even still make roms?
Anyway would stick to the stock CM7 kernel if i were you, least problems with that (no SOD, BSOD etc). On vork / swift problems keep popping up (for me at least). CM7 kernel no problems
I really dont have any knowledge about kernel!! pls help me

You always take a risk when overclocking. With 1.2 it's not a big risk, but there's always one.
Thank you so much!!! can you pls tell me which kernel is good for daily use ??? i am using cyanogen mod 7 ??? when i installed swiftkernel .. i realized that it was automatically overclocked to 1015??? is this fine???
Yo...
I'm using CM Nightly's, in last week I did the install the Vork Kernel, I think so good to diary use.
Now I'm using the #201 with Vork Kernel, all ok. No BSOD and others bugs.
You can use SetCPU with personal profiles.
I'm using max 1216mhz and Profile's Screen Off: max 816 min 216. All ok in this time.
Already did one week, no problems with this.
Just had problem with #202 CM, in #197 and #201 all ok.
so bro if i am running MIUI , what do i need to do to overclock it??
sill any of these kernals be good enough or is there any specific kernal for miui??

[Q] HTC One - Running Android 4.2.2 - is there a current possibility for overclock?

Greetings guys!
I got my HTC One a few days ago and immediately wanted to remove the Sense layer. I rooted the device and flashed CyanogenMod. I am so far super satisfied with the vanilla Android experience.
I am wondering is there a current possibility for clocking the CPU of the device? I looked up Element X but it seems that, as of now it only works with 4.1.2?
Check out the Kernel which is for 4.2.2 by tbalden. The problem with this s that it isn't based on the HTC Kernel source cause this isn't released yet. So it might have some problems

Why would you overclock it ?
The One is already very responsive and powerful enough to run any apps and games, from my point of view overclock will just cause instability and drain the battery.
But if you want to do it, I saw an option called "seeder" or something like that during the installation of the Revolution HD 10.3 rom, it says that it allow performance tweak but I never tried it.
Seeder has nothing to do with overclocking, it just fills and enlarge the entropy, some people say it give them less lag and smoother gaming, a lot of it is in the eye of the beholder I think but it has no bad side effects as far as I know

I'm coming from 6 year streak of Apple devices and the shear freedom of tinkering with the clock speed makes me really excited
I also noticed the Galaxy S4 uses the same chip with a frequency of 1.9... I guess clocking the current 1.7 to its intended(?) 1.9 wouldn't hurt the battery that much... although anything beyond that might be pointless really.
Thank you everyone for your answers! So I guess there's no 100% working solution as of now?
