Any Resources For Getting Started With Modding

I'm aware that I should probably post this is the Dev area, but I'm not a Dev yet lol and don't want to clutter up their precious 'new release' space with what I consider a n00b question.
However, I'm a budding software developer who was very interested in developing apps for android - all of my ideas have been taken up by people and though I contribute a little towards those with suggestions I would like to jump in at the deep end instead.
So i figure, why not start a thread with links to relevant places to learn how to mod the Android OS - whichever version. Not like the dev section where its pretty hardcore, but introductory links:
Everything from removing / adding bits and pieces to an established custom / stock rom, to compiling your own kernel and porting versions could be covered.
It might also offer an incentive to the best devs on the android asteroid to continue knocking out tutorials even after they've moved on to newer versions?
Anyway, just an idea, what do you guys think? Personally at the moment I'm trawling through craploads of official docs trying to get a handle on where to start!
What your looking for is the stickies. They are at the top of each forum subsection. Happy reading. Props on putting it in q&a section though.

DING DING DING! We have a winner! You sir, deserve a trophy for actually thinking!
Check out the "getting ADB up and running thread" It will point you to the android sdk and on that page you can download eclipse. Those should help you get on your way.
Resources for moddingo
Lol... Yay!! My brain was a worthwhile investment, must remember to send a letter of recommendation to my supplier!
Thanks guys I'll keep digging
My poor G1 is in for a ROUGH ride over the next few months I fear... maybe I should save for another just to be safe lol
There are several other threads that cover this. Search for those and they have links and documents relating to this.
You'll have to have knowledge on linux, java, c++, and someother stuff.

Development tools/ides

Hey guys, Specifically Devs -
First and foremost thanks for your hard work!
Second I apologize if this thread is misplaced - if so mod can you relocate?
Thirdly and finally my question:
What tools/ide's are you guys using for development of ROM's, Apps, and everything Android? And where do you go for your research when you get stuck, or when you first getting started?
I ask for the obvious reason I would like to contribute... or at least try.
Many thanks!!
As far as App development: Most of the App development is done using Eclipse IDE and the Android SDK.
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
http://developer.android.com/resources/index.html
Kernel Development:
Linux and Apple only
http://source.android.com/source/index.html
I am still figuring all of the development stuff out as I go. I've completed the "Hello World/Android" app and I've built the master Froyo source, the hard part for me is finding the time to mess around with android after i get home from my real job!
if you can't figure something out, always remember, Google is your friend

Thanks for this!! Of course GIYF!! I was wondering what the guys with experience here use if its something different after some trial and error, etc..
Again thanks for the reply, and good luck with your future projects... once you find time of course... (I suffer from the same dilemma)

Guys, can we stop with the personal attacks.
Regarding this, the OP may wish to consider the use of Q&A next time, as this forum is for development.
Additionally, a read of the "XDA mantra" at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2031989&postcount=45 will explain a little about how xda started, and what is expected before posting.
As for the forum rules, please read them and stop with the childish insults and name calling.

Really true..all u guys had to say was wrong section. Even though some people are rude don't make it worse. Like I said though Q&A or the CM6 question thread.

Thread cleaned a bit.
First i would like to say that doing a search in the main HTC HERO CDMA forum which can be found on the top right of the page will help you out tremendously.
As for kernels, Here is a link to all the kernels that Decad3nce has done. You can read through and test them out.
A lot of people are using the #14 kernel which can be downloaded at this link
CM6 #14 kernel
As for customizing, either go to the themes and development forums and you will find themes and themed ROM's. There is also some tweaks you can do in settings>Cyanogenmod Settings. It's more of trying out different things. What I do to my phone is my preference. Make it your own. Trial and Error..

No problem. People forget that they were once a noob and instead of pointing out what you should do and answering the question, they berate you.

Actually, it's more "us nerdy people" don't like being insulted, and it's irritating to see someone say "oh, I'm not going to read through that because I'm lazy and it's easier if I just ask my question instead".
Yea i understand what your saying but I wasn't tryin to be lazy..i did alot of research and i knew alot about how it worked and operated and the cool features..not the neccesary steps. i have a alltel hero and i was doing the sprint way but quickly notice it wasnt working so i googled alltel hero came to this site and the alltel rom root was still in the works. However I still did research, also tried the forums way it was a tad misleading..so soon after i found a site with 8 simple steps that answered all my questions. So to say jus read is not helping as much being point in the right direction..So I greatly appreciate the people above who helped and pointed me in the right direction. And those with unneccsary side comments, just don't post..It's simple..

[Q] How to learn how to program android apps in Android Studio

So I am quite new to this forum and because I got a new android phone I wanted to start to learn some android app programing. I wanted to ask is there a site, besides googles tutorial site, that teaches you how to program in Android Studio? Also what's the best site to learn JAVA and HTML, which I see is needed to program in AS?
Thank you
P.S. I searched and didn't find any thread that answered my questions, but if someone finds it feel free to post it here.

Bitfountain "The complete android course", google it since im new user and cant provide any outside link.
coupon = "PRESALE" to get 82% off, i highly recommend it since it was taught based on android lollipop, cheers
I actually just started with Android studio also and im following Google's tutorial.. Ive already learned alot of html from learning one thing, then testing it. Might work for you too-its not gonna come quick
Well, I too have a bit of idea regarding development in android studio as its development is quite similar to IntelliJIdea. Although I am also looking for some good tutorial.

go to mybringback.com site, or you can search his tutorial video series called "the new boston series", you can learn from the beginning from his videos. He use eclipse, but it's not much different with android studio
sorry for my bad english
I am learning Android Development on Android Studio since over a month and I have to say its very nice IDE. It's a bit heavy though but has everything, and code reviewing is better than in Eclipse. For sure it doesn't really matter which IDE you will use, stick with the one that you like to work with and everything will be fine. Google toturials are great same as there is lots of them on youtube. It took me a while to understood Gradle System but it's not that complicated as it look.
I am also learning on the Android Studio IDE. I like it a lot considering I am usually known to do things from the command line. I do not think I would want to do that with an Android app though, much better to have lots of tools to test and get better support.
I am going to take a look at some of these recommendations tonight as I have only been using the tutorials on googles site but they seem to be missing a bit of detail. Like at one point they tell you about the action bar and to use a function openSearch() but never define it like they define everything else. They also never tell you to make it on your own, so it feels a bit annoying that we do not get to have the satisfaction of completing that particular tutorial.
hi
welcome to you in this site you must be find your solution here. if you learn to programs in android apps you should be contact the programmer of android studio

Is android studio considered the best for developing android apps? Is there anything like dreamweaver for apps though?
