[Q] Rooting Samsung Galaxy S i9000 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently converted from an iphone 3g to the new samsung galaxy s. I am interested on rooting my new samsung but it seems much more complicated than jailbreaking the iphone. Should i be using astro of froyo? Once rooted is there some sort of 3rd party app store or do i have to download them on my computer and transfer them to the phone's sd card?? Help... yes i am a noob aswell.

Thinking of getting a Samsung Galaxy S i9000 8GB

Hi all,
I am currently on the lookout for a new device and I was considering the Samsung Galaxy S.
I was leaning towards a HTC Desire as they will be releasing 2.3 for that device, but have (1) Samsung announced 2.3 for the i9000?
2 Whats the 1ghz processor like compared to the Desire?
3 What is the battery life like on the Galaxy?
4 Does it cause an issue that the device doesnt have a flash?
5 Can you get a headset with music controls (i use my current phone while cycling so having music controls is very handy)
6 The device has 8gb internal memory, how much is used for storing apps? Would i need to use app2sd? I take it I can expand the memory via micro sd card?
7 Do people recommend the Samsung Galaxy S?
Thanks

1. Yes
2. Much better graphics performance, CPU is weaker in some areas and stronger in others on the SGS.
3. A day or so in my experience (fairly heavy use)
4. Not really for me, but I don't use phone cameras much anyway.
5. You can, but afaik they have to have the Nikia/Samsung pin arrangement rather than the Apple/HTC
6. Around 1.3GB is available for storing apps, so no real need for a2sd.
7. Yes.
Thanks for the reply. I read about a free unlocking solution on this forum, does this work for all devices or is it specific to a certain type of galaxy s?
it is fairly easy to unlock this device (we're talking about the original galaxy s which is the i-9000) and comes with a great deal of "aftermarket" support with lost of cooked roms to try

It really depends on the user - sometimes battery life may obtain 3 days - for me, it is 1,5-2 days. But everything is relative.
About flash - it also depends if you need it - simple For me it is not a big problem.
I was choosing between Desire and Galaxy S - finally, i have chosen galaxy and I am really satisfied with it

The lack of camera flash is a big miss on the SGS. I seriously just assumed it would have one when I got mine - so much for research! But apart from that it really is a terrific device. The official support is a bit patchy but the team on this site have put together some amazing custom roms. Battery life is bad if you come from an old school phone my old Sony erricson would last a week but you really do need to charge up every day unless you're not using it and you WILL use it a lot.
The other stuff depends on what your setup is but all is possible. My choice was between the SGS and the desire and I don't regret my decision but the desire does have a better camera, when its dark at least

The galaxy s is a fantastic phone with excellent hardware and great "aftermarket" development as someone put it but to be honest if you're thinking of getting a galaxy s now.. y not wait a while and just get the galaxy s 2... its pretty much galaxy s on steroids, in terms of hardware and software...

[Q] S2 Firmware on Galaxy S?

Hi, i am just wondering if it is possible to put the firmware of the galaxy s2 on my galaxy s as it includes brand new apps, touchwiz 4 etc.
Thanks
There are some roms in the SGS developement section which contain SGS2 apps and widgets =)
man, its like flashing iOS on a Nokia 3310
There are some ROMs that promiss "real SGS2-feeling", just look in the dev-forum.

[ASK]MTP for NOTE N7000

hi all master in this forum.
condition:
Samsung Galaxy Note N7000
ICS 4.0.4
I am an android user and nexus fans,
I use nexus s then currently use Galaxy Nexus
Actually a couple days ago my father just bought Note N7000.
I see something diffferent from my galaxy nexus.
Here is what i want to ask to all master in this forum.
In my Galaxy Nexus, whenever i open apps in setting menu. i find my phone merge the size of its disk. like currently usable disk space for my galaxy nexus is 13.3 Gb then i got about 13.3 Gb to install application or i called this from the internet is MTP
But when i open apps menu in my father i got downloaded and on SD Card. Actually this is same like nexus s.
What i want to ask is..
Can we merge the disk space because we know Galaxy Note has 16Gb. I mean make the disk management like Galaxy Nexus so i dont need to move the application that i install before to SD Card?
Sorry for long post.Thx very much
I did not even understand one word!

[Q] SGH-T599 help

Hello everyone. I'm a casual installer of custom roms for my past few android phones, latest phone I did new install was for my Galaxy S2 i777 model to have Cyanogenmod 10.2 installed into it. Unfortunately my phone fried on me after some electrical issues at my apartment recently so I went ahead and got a new back-up phone until I'm able to afford a better phone in the near future. Luckily I ran my auto backup and have the latest files saved through my dropbox so nothing lost.
I went to get a cheap GSM phone and I got a Galaxy Exhibit SGH-T599 for $49.99. I like the features within it, and definitely a pretty powerful little machine for its price. I was able to root it with KingoRoot with ease, but I'm interested in installing a custom rom. Not much found through my searching. The closest I found were these links:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790570
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713695
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2747476
I tried each one but none got installed correctly. I'm highly interested in having Kit Kat installed, but no support yet for this phone through Samsung and T-Mobile. I was wondering if anyone else also ran into the same problem that I'm having, and if there's a good custom rom that I can fully utilize? I would appreciate any help on this matter.
This forum is for the t679 exhibit, originally named the Exhibit II, now named Galaxy Exhibit. Yours is a Galaxy S3 Mini with a different name. Search for that and you should find some info on it.

So which forum is for the SGH-T599? When I did my original search it led me here.
