Hi all,
New owner of a nice Galaxy Ace, i tried yesterday to flash the ROM from stock Froyo to Gingerbread 2.3.4 using Odin 4.38 and SAM dedicated firmware.
All has worked fine... except that when i reboot my phone with SIM card, it is not recognized ! In fact, checking IMEI (*#06#), i have discovered that my phone has lost its IMEI so it can be used anymore for phone services...
I have tried to explore file system (using Root Explorer with root privileges) but i haven't even found /efs folder nor nv_data.bin file on the ACE... Is this normal ? Did i erase the folder when i flashed the ROM (if yes, how ?) ?
Please help me before i send back my phone to my provider...
Regards,
Cedric.
Actually this is one of the things that people are not posting on their update guides, I too am having the same problem. Luckily my phone (which is just 3 days old) is going to be replaced from where I bought it. (I learned my lesson not to mess with my phone) lol! ) Though I hope someone could help with this issue.
Hi,
What is surprizing is the missing /efs folder and imei files on the file system, even .bak ones... and the fact that nobody seems able to explain it or to explain how it should be on the Ace. I wonder if people who have posted flash/root tutorials for the Ace have really proceeded it and if it is not a simple copy/paste from Galaxy S tutorials...
BTW, I brought my Ace this morning to my local provider, it will be sent to repair services. Mine is almost new too (6 days old) so i hope i won't have too many problems with guarantee...

I think most of them probably just copy pasted them tutorials from some other sites and takes credit for em. OH well, people nowadays. I just hope there will be a thorough tutorial/guides that will be posted by veterans/pro's about these stuff. (So we will be well guided).
Thats good, well it hasn't been a week for you. Well my case, it hasn't been 3 days yet thats why they are going to replace the phone.

Dont happen to u doesnt mean it wont happen to anyone else. Btw im also flashed my ace more than 10 times already, and never encounter lost imei problem. But reading this made me realize how critical this matter is. I know that imei on android supposedly were stored in efs folder, but on my ace i couldnt find that folder to backup. Weird...
So anyone can clarify this? Is it true that ace doesnt have efs folder? And if its indeed doesnt have that folder, where does our imei were stored instead?

That's a very good question ! Maybe if i had known where imei is stored, i would be able to restore it myself instead of send my phone back to support centre and
take the risk to pay cash for the repairing...

Don't judge the people from this forum, i have flashed as well with odin plenty of times, and encountered no problem. Flashing really takes risk, we may have similar phones but the situation in which we upgrade them sometimes is the key to the outcome, like what operating system you used, open line or operator locked phones, corrupted files, etc.
By far you were the first i saw that lost their IMEI after flashing. I'm not saying it would not happen again to others, this may be a bug on the upgrade process, but such rarity might be difficult to investigate, but taking the risk is part of the game, don't blame other's if you have failed.
Goodluck on your repair, and hope you have a successful upgrade next time.
I flash my ace couple times. Still have my IMEI.
But want to backup my IMEI, i cant find /efs folder on my ace.
Does anyone, have /efs folder on your ace ?
Don't touch EFS on Galaxy Ace. Especially do not make a dump (dd) of it.

Ok but why ?... I agree with the fact i have encountered a special case which doesn't affect other people, but i won't do any further flash of my Ace without understanding what has happened.
I have strictly followed the tutorial step by step, using Odin and a multi-package KPE ROM from SAM firmware... i am not the first one who lose his imei on the Ace after a flash, i have found several similar cases on forums. Very strange...
Above all, how are managed EFS files on the ACE ? That's the question, and until now nobody knows or wants to tell it : weird isn't ? If i had known this, maybe i would have been able to restore IMEI myself, it's a very important point.

Is there a way to backup IMEI ?
Have you by chance tried to unlock the phone with the Galaxy Ace Unlock app available on the market ?

IMEI is readed from HARDWARE, not from SOFTWARE(SOME FOLDER OR FROM SOME FILE). If it was in folder or somewhere in FILE, then we can change our IMEI.
Its not SOFTWARE base number. Its HARDWARE BASED NUMBER.
YOU CANT CHANGE IT. You must change your hardware, to change your IMEI.
And back to problem: I think that software CANT read your hardware RIGHT or its not SHOWING to you your IMEI(somehow its the software problem).
If you flashing, FIRST be sure that you CLEAR CACHE AND RESET System settings(IF YOU WANT TO BE SURE THAT NOTHING CANT MESS YOU PHONE SOFT).
Maybe this can help too: REMOVE your SIM and SD, before you flashing your phone!

Not true. All that info is stored on an unmounted efs partition. Don't try to read, mount or dd that partition, as it's highly probable that it will get corrupted. Don't use unlocking app either.

Maybe you can read your IMEI from SOMEWHERE IN FOLDER OR....., but IMEI is read from HARDWARE, its not SOFTWARE BASE. If you want to change your IMEI(like SELL to other ppl phone, then you can sell it, but you CANT change your IMEI).If you phone get DAMAGED and you bring it back to SERVICE(they can change your MOTHERBOARD, LIKE IN PC AND YOU GET almost new phone. But IMEI is changed and your HARDWARE IS CHANGED TOO).
I know this by my self.
IMEI is NOT software NUMBER!
If you not belive it, use GOOGLE to search, before ANSWERING! READ THIS

Hey!
Agree with you, but IMEI never WAS and NEVER BE software based number man. Still, just use google to find out. Like I sayed, if we all know where is IMEI code, we can CHANGE IT. But we CANT(IF YOU NOT CHANGE YOUR HARDWARE).
If you dont know, DONT link to our forum(I can use the SEARCH button[LOL]). USE INTERNET, like google!

I think there is hope for you guys. I once had the same problem with my sgs2 and I searched everywhere... Until I found someone that send me a efs tar file... I told the guy it wouldn't work cause I tried everything... And I had to flash it with odin in the pda section... It totally solved the problem! I don't know where I found that guy but if you just search the net a bit longer, yoi could find it. Just search for efs tar file. It gives you another imei number so be carefull... It's forbidden in some countries...but yeah...
I also found some answers if I typed "baseband unknown galaxy note" in google. About somesort of tool...
Good luck!

Please, can I contact with you? I really need those files for fixing my phone...
You're original imei is specific to the phone and registered with Samsung and the network. If it's corrupted and you have no backup, there is no one who can restore it except samsung. You can create a new imei, but it's illegal and of no use at all. Don't get ripped off by people claiming they can restore your original imei, it's just not possible.

Read the post before yours. It's not possible to do it because of the unique IMEI. If you do not have your old one (written on a sticker inside your device) then there will be not solution.
Hi Guys here i am explaining different types of Methods for restoring IMEI number , as many of the users has to face these type of problem so try it out one of the Method .
So Let's get Started
1. Restoring by Flashing Kernel's
While flashing Rom's your IMEI number goes , so just after that flash any Custom Kernel and IMEI number gets back.( it works in 10/7)

Very useful guide bro Great :good:
The odin thing works for me, but if i install the rom, imei goes again. I downloaded hex editor. Took backup with galaxy toolbox. Copied the backup to pc. Opened it with hex editor. Typed 0x80000. Then surprisingly, my imei is already there. There is no need for me to type it. But when i save and restore, there is no imei again. What's going wrong?

Hi Hitesh,
Thanks for your reply in other thread and pointing me here.
As listed in my question, I have tried suggestion 1 - After flashing [ROM] TouchWiz-Resurrection V9.5 [08/03/2014] , which I lost IMEI. Then I flashed kernel
[DEV][KERNEL][2.6.35.7] ThunderKernel 2.2 [UPDATE 10/07/2014]
Still no IMEI.
Method 3, hex editor does not work. .save file in Galaxy backup already has correct IMEI but phone still does not show IMEI.
Is there any other Kernel you recommend? I tried Rafael kernal 2.6.35-7 also but this bricked the phone so had to remove it.
I solved my issue by flashing kernel again...see...

Thunder kernel wont boot with these rom so go for Rafael's.
I am setting up the Ace I of my niece. I came from the latest Italian stock ROM, after messing up with CM11 Aug 30 (which gets stuck at boot). So I re-flashed the stock ROM with ODIN, installed Raf kernel (w/o modules) and I lost the IMEI: Installed the modules still no IMEI. Now I just installed the Thunderbolt "stock" kernel and the IMEI reappeared.
It must be noticed that Galaxy Tool with Raf kernel did show the IMEI in both the UI "show device" option and in the EFS file (and so there was no way to edit it). It was just the kernel unable to read it.
I tried to edit IMEI for my Galaxy Note 3(Tmobile N900T).
The thing is , I back up the efs with EFS IMEI backup ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.efs&hl=en ). It generates img, tar or tar.gz file. I chose img to edit.... when I search 0x80000 in Hex workshop, that line has a different title 0007FFE9 and doesn't have the IMEI info, there are 00 and FF.......
So what should I do to find my IMEI?

I had a official Rom 4.4.4 with my samsung korean phone before, i flashed a custom rom then my IMEI-Null, Basband-UNKNOWN, No network. So i try to make it back, i flashed so many patch files according to tutorials on internet. finally my phone bricked i think. i couldnt open even custom recovery. Samsung kies didnt help too, how ever i could open download mode, So i flashed latest korean offical Rom" E210SKSUKNI3_E210SSKTKNI3_E210SKSUKNI3_HOME.tar.md5" using odin. so again i could switch on my phone, then i found my shv-e210s IMEI has changed to new one.my phone back side imei is another one and its original imei. when i insert SIM it show" no service" and network "Unknown" , when i remove SIM it show " limited service" and i can make emgency call simple, and it show some local network providers names, its mean my phone get signals without SIM card and can make emergency calls. Can anyone suggest a method to solve this . if this imei changed by flash files, so it should able to change back to original by another file right?

You need to look for xiaomi and snapdragon. Before you start, backup everything, so if you mess something up, you can restore it. You have nothing to lose. Tutorial I sent you pm are noob friendly.
Hello! I lost IMEI and got NVRAM Warning after flashing Redmi 9 with SP Flash Tool. I tried lots of programs to repair it like Maui Meta, SN Write Tool etc. But I can't get the drivers working properly. Are there any other ways to repair it? If there are, could you please help me to get it working? I feel like I'm already about to surrender...

The problem is that i checked "firmware upgrade" and it's all erased anyway. I've read this is a common problem when you use sp you lose imei and stuff. I would fix this in a few minutes but this stupid drivers...just can't get them working...

If you didn't backup your IMEI before you lost it, probably you will never can recover both of imei.
But, you can recover one of them.
You need to write the IMEI to any (newer) device that allow imei writing. (Redmi Note 8 Pro can does it.)
And then, making the imei 1 as empty/null and into imei 2 you can write your new imei.
After it, you can backup the nvdata from that phone and restore it to your device.
So, you will have only imei 2. If you try to write imei 1 too, your device will get nvdata corrupted.
Good luck.

If you lost your imei, definitely you didn't make a firmware upgrade, but a format all.

Yes, you can.
But you need a sim card from an operator that doesn't require the imei for using its service.
And obviously, you need your baseband intact.
If you try a sim card from an operator that requires imei for using its service, the sim card will not be registered.
If you want to restore the state of UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER, you need to follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...omi-redmi-note-9-xiaomi-redmi-10x-4g.4220013/

I just found out that mi flash pro shows my IMEIs when I connect my phone in recovery mode. Could it be possibly happening because of the new firmware and I just need to flash into something different than global version or I'm wrong somewhere?

No. It will never write or recover your IMEI.
Accidently got the drivers working. Then i tried using maui meta and sn write tool to fix imei but i got errors. For example maui meta says "Write to target failed" and sn gives something like timeout error. Never felt that close...

Unhappy, maui meta can't help you.
You need to follow the guide I've sent for recovering only imei 2.
Good luck
