processor? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok i have a question. i was looking in quadrant under system information and the processor is listed as a ARMv7 processor rev 2. Is that right? i thought it was an A8 or are they the same thing?

Its a modified version of an A8. Called the arm blah blah
Sent from my phone so excuse the spelling errors

ok thanks for the info

Welcome to ARM, where everything has two or more names. Cortex-A8 is a core supporting the ARMv7 instruction set. Just be glad it's not on of the earlier ones where the cores were numbers too. ARM7 core -> ARMv4 instructions, yay.

Dell streak 7 Froyo 2.2 Optimizations

Hey developers I would like to know if anyone here would like to help me research and look at the Froyo 2.2 rom with me can someone provide me with its complete source tree? I would like to add dual core support in there for the Dell Streak 7 dont say we need honeycomb 3.0 for that cuz we dont we can program it in there so that the os will activate it and run both processors as one so we dont have to add to the java language for this device we will have to just act as if the other core is the same cpu and same core as the first one it can be simple or hard I dont know if anyone wants to help develop this feature please contact me at [email protected] or skype me Username: Loveless247 or just post on the forum here I would like to put together a nice development team shortly.
You should try adding some punctuation.

Yeah my grammer is horible but my programming is awesome xD
I just ran the Mandro benchmark which indicated my tablet was using both cores...
Development may be useless.
What do you mean I was told it was only a single core operating system the benchmark programs only use one core I can believe this dell are tricky guys and also froyo wasn't built for dual core devices so I believe that benchmarker is wrong.

Download the Mandro benchmark, my Streak scored over double my Nexus One, and it clearly identified two cores.
I can confirm its for dual core

[Q] Screencast app on Tablet?

Is there an app, or any way to screencast/ record onscreen video on the Xoom?
Here you go: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ms.screencast
BTW, I have not tested this, it might not work with Honeycomb.
EDIT: Just checked, it won't let me install on my Xoom.

Thanks for at least givin it a shot
Verified that this app doesn't work by ripping it off my DX and pushing it to my Xoom. It request root, then detects an error.
edit) if you want to try, here ya go:

It will not work on any Tegra 2 devices because it is written mostly using NEON instructions. Tegra 2 does not have a NEON co-processor.
Are there any plans to get this working on Tegra 2's? Will it work on a different type of tablet processor like the new Snapdragons or OMAP's?

I actually saw this game and I actually wants to try it. Anyone knows how to make it work?
Or is it for Arm7?

The 2Dboy team will make it for ARMv6 in the future. Just wait for it.

You can meybe dream about it? I really don't belive they will make a version for ARMv6 in the future.
They've wrote it in their forums. I can't give link now (I'm from phone), but trust me, they're working on it. BTW search on google, and you'll find related infos.

Why are you so pessimistic? There's already so many apps originally for ARMv7 ported to ARMv6.

Google games that are for arm7 that are now ported to arm6. Like sky castle 3d. They will make it available for arm6 soon.( porting I mean)

Why so many games not compatible

They worked fine on my old Charge... And this phone has more ram.. what gives? Any way to get them to work...

It would be helpful to have some specifics...
1. What games are you trying?
2. What ROM are you running?
Those are the big two...

Dude has a good point, more info would be helpful. But you can edit your build.prop to spoof the market that you have a different device.
Sorry I have the infected rom 3.5 and games like NBA Jam and Max Payne for example

One of the fairly popular ROMS on the board was using a build that reported something other than being a t-bolt. It happened to crop up when I was using bootmanager and it was a bit upset at one of the roms.
In checking-it was ODJDub. A lot of EA games run much tighter checks than others. By modifying the build file, you can tell these "checks" what device you have. It's fairly common when you slap the droid OS on a non android device like Nook Colors, HP touchpads, etc.

You need to change
ro.product.device
ro.product.board
ro.product.name
Change them to something like the HTC flyer or another tablet should resolve your issue, you'd have to Google it though, as I'm not sure of the proper entries for other devices.

No. However, I would make a back up copy of your build file and name it like build.old and keep it safe. If you wish to restore your checks to broadcasting the tbolt name, simply rename the current build file and rename build.old back to build.prop. It's just a matter of whether or not you think renaming files is quicker than editing them.
The stood charge is a duel core phone so more games for it. Our phone is single core and not as good for gaming as more.cores are needed.

WRONG, yet again...
Might wanna start checking facts before you post anymore in these forums.
That applies to both you and your alter ego "Entitled".
The Droid Charge has a single-core 1Ghz Hummingbird processor on VZW.
The issue lies within the build.prop, as already correctly mentioned above.
In fact, I wonder if the OP has applied one of the modified build.props posted over at InfectedRom.
Anyway, editing that should fix you back up.
Otherwise, there are also modded versions of the Play Store out there with device specific restrictions removed, though they tend to be outdated fairly quickly.

Ubuntu Phone

I'm not sure if anyone's seen the news lately, but apparently Canonical is putting out a mobile version of its Ubuntu OS. I've seen the whitepapers so far and it looks promising (assuming it ever gets traction).
Assuming that the phone OS is open-source like its desktop counterpart, does anyone think we could possibly build ubuntu phone to work with kexec and safestrap 3?
Cant you download ububtu on the app market?

what you're referring to, is running ubuntu on top of the existing android system
what Canonical wants, is a phone that runs only ubuntu, no android base layer (*insert Canonical's claims about how java is too memory bloated, and mobile OSs should run C/C++)
Possibly, yes. Depends on how it is ubuntu is implemented fully though, however.
If it can easily can replace the android framework and go on top of our existing kernel, then yes.
If it requires specific kernel edits, possibly, depending on how much work is involved.
But with current kexec kernel issues, it probably would not be worth it until they get sorted out

From what I've read it's compatible with most Android kernels.
From what I understand, android was written over the Linux 2 kernel. You would think that there wouldn't be much of a difference, just adapt the drivers, but then again operating system implementation isn't my area of expertise.

Yes kexec is 3.0.31 i think
I don't see why it wouldn't work, having kexec we can bypass the locked bootloader situation, unless maybe it needs a gig of RAM, otherwise if a developer takes it up I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be able to come to our good ole 3.
And yes the current kexec kernel is 3.0.31 but yet again it can be updated or changed.
I wonder if Ubuntu won't loose most of it's usability on our tiny touchscreens... I used to use an HTC Universal with a few directly ported DOS-games. The tiny screen and the touchscreen instead of a mouse made them quite hard to control. And not even having a stylo will make it even harder to controll, I guess.
