So, recently i bought a samsung captivate, switched over from iphone and i am pretty familiar with jailbreaking iphones and able to do that. however when it comes to android phones and rooting im lost.
okay, the captivate i got from a dude off craigslist, and he said it was suped up and extra fast and rooted. i thought okay well that sounds like a great deal let me check it out. however, homie didnt tell me that he took off the original captivate software and now i have an at&t samsung captivate running on galaxy 19000 and not the original software. I am not able to find anywhere instructions on how to put the original software on the phone and get it back it the brand new factory default. I am not sure if i unroot it would that take the 19000 galaxy Os off and then the original would come back? or do i need to download the original? i cant even find that ive looked all over samsungs website.
Like i said i am pretty good with messing around with iphones and im sure if i just got a step by step instruction on how to fix my issue i could do it i just need some help from someone who knows how and where to find the tools i need to do it. I really appericiate any help you can offer. Thanks!
Phil
You can get back to stock, but the i9000 roms are much better then stock. It is likely if you like to play with your phone that you would end up flashing in no time.
What rom are you on
Settings, about phone, bottom
Find the galaxy s (not captivate drivers), then use odin 1 click downloader to revert to stock.
Step 1: install drivers
Step 2: got to download mode. Easiest way is to turn off phone, remove sim and battery, put battery back in, then hold vol up and down buttons while inserting usb. If you get a yellow android symbol that is shoveling, you're golden.
Step 3: use the odin 1 click to revert to stock. On the odin screen, you should see a com port light up and at the bottom "added". If your device is in downolad mode click start.
Step 4: set your phone down, don't touch anything, and watch the magic.
Step 5: (optional) donate to design gears, the person who will have really saved your butt.
u can try this single post if u wan to reflash to original rom..
it got everyting inside.

Hi,
I have a problem with my galaxy s not booting unless plugged in, after a long research it seems that it's a hardware issue so I wanna send it back for warranty.
Thing is, I have rooted my phone and then I went back to the original firmware (from samsungfirmware ) and then, I upgraded it via Kies to 2.2 and everything is fine apart from my the issue that I just explained.
the question is, would samsung repair it , would they realize that I have rooted my phone before ??
what's the worse scenario in this case ? should I give it a shot or repair it myself?
thanks
I think, the worse scenario is they won't repair your phone and send it back to you (and you have to pay the delivering).
If you unroot your phone, I don't think they are able to find out if your phone was rooted or not (or is there any root-log-file?).
thx for reply
I'm not sure how I can see what's in my internal (sys) memory since it's not rooted. but I formatted everything (boot, sys, sd ext ...) before flashing the stock firmware.
thanks
With HTC we have A RUU that restores the phone to exactly the factory condition all you need is USB connectivity. You need to find this EXE to run and bring it back to stock and in theory they cannot tell if it has been rooted. Out of neccessity I had to send my Evo back fully rooted with custom boot animation and splash screen and i never heard anything about it. You can take the chance or you can google until you find the correct file.
As long as its no longer rooted I'm pretty sure your good
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
thx guys, I'll take it tomorrow and see what's gonna happen.
best regards
Let us know how you get on .

Hello,
I'm really hoping someone can help me. My phone's a bit buggered. Seems to charge when it wants, doesnt always recognise when ive put it on charge and when it does it charges slower than my grandad can walk. Thinking the usb port is fooked. So I may have to send it back for repair...
Question. I used someones guide in the developers forum on what to do when you buy your galaxy s3, seems to have been deleted now I've got a nandroid backup, efs backup and ieme backup on the pooter. Is there anyway to return it to a state which they can't really tell I've rooted? Like I know there is a flash counter you can wipe with triangle away, but that can be reset right? And restoring the factory recovery thing? Cause I don't know if that's backed up, like I say followed this guide which isnt there any more so buggered if I can go back and tell you what I did will I just be ****ed?
Thanks!
Mike
Triangle Away, than flash stock firmware for your region
Hard reset? Recovery wipe?
+usb port cleaning!

Hey guys whats up. I got my replacement phone. So I went ahead and followed the steps to Unroot and put back the original Software with the phone. I used Odin and the proper Software. Now when the Unroot and Software process was done. the phone reboots and then I get Unfortunatly Googleplay services has stopped. I then hit ok. and then another pop up says the samething. I hit Ok and then the phone reboots. And it is in like a constant boot like this. Is there anything I can do about this? I really dont want to send back the phone to them like this. Or do you think it is ok? Well hope someone can help me thanks guys
did you try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-unbrick-flash-to-stocknce-g900a-t3077652
also take the battery out for a moment to stop the boot loop.
Ok, I have read and read about soft bricking my Note 3. Many of the threads have links to files that no longer exist (here and other sites). I would really appreciate some help if possible. I had SafeStrap on my phone. I had the stock ROM along with an older custom ROM. Well I needed to turn the phone in, so I had the idea I'd put it back to stock. I stupidly thought that doing a factory reset would just put the phone back to stock. Nope. I bricked it. Now, when I turn it on, all I get is the Note 3 start up screen. I had an old OneClickBin Odin MJ5 (I think) file which I tried a couple of times. It failed. So, is there anything I can do? AT&T and Best Buy would not help me. I'm hoping I can just reload the stock files via Odin......if I can find them (.tar, .pit, etc.) Thanks!
So, no one can help?
