I rooted and flashed to the Cognition ROM. I want to go back to stock and so I can get the Samsung over the air updates (2.2) when it comes out.
How can I do this? I tried the Odin one click unroot and when back to the stock software via Clockworky recovery/Rom manager....
Software updates fail though when the captivate restarts....
Nevermind I get ya now. The stock rom Odin one click isn't supposed to be flashed through clockwork. You need to read more.
PS, Questions belong in Q & A section.
Search for odin3 one-click downloader by designgears. I never worry about unrooting it. Odin does it for me.
Btw, Wrong section. Should be in q&a

There may be something comparable, but the odin for the Captivate only has the Captivate software.

If you want help, be more specific. Do you have an American or Canadian Captivate? Which build number is your phone; it is behind the battery and it will say 1006, 1007... If your phone is prior to Build 1010 you can use Odin 1 click to Stock JF6. 1010 and later will need to use a different build. If you have a Canadian Captivate you will need to find the thread that talks about Canadian files. The info is easily found if you just SEARCH! I hope I have helped you enough to find the info you need, which is already in the forums.
Thanks alot! I got her into download mode, now downloading the .jar and .pit
Its American, and shes in Download mode, so im not sure if its 1010 but im going to run the normal Odin with the .pit and .tar, thanks tho!
flashman2002, good answer, thanks
you may need this if you brick your phone again ...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...71308&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_595wt_1139
especially if your build number is 1010 or later, since their key combo is disabled by default.
Ok, so I have Froyo on my Captivate from a looong time ago, but now I want to put in Andromeda 2.0. I followed the directions but then it says i have to get back to stock firmware. I got my Captivate on October 25, so it had the JH7, so now I need to get back to that firmware. Anything before that would brick my phone, so I'm trying to find an Odin restore that will get me back to JH7. And yes, I have googled it up a lot. Could you tell me or post a link, where I might find it?

1) Wrong section
2) You really do not need to go back to stock, that is just a disclaimer used. If you understand you have the possibility of bricking your phone than just flash the ROM. I will help you search but if you search the Dev forum rather than google you will find the thread for JH7 Odin. The only time you really need to go back to stock is with a bad flash, which sometimes can be fixed by flashing the ROM a second time.
Ok thanks, sorry for the wrong thread I'm just about to do the Andromeda 2.0 now.
Also, so it doesn't matter that I have the leaked 2.2 firmware, I can still download it with that rather than the 2.1?
yes you can flashhhhhhhhhhhhh if you don't make your phone into a paperweight
I got a replacement 1010 with jh7 installed and had no issues using the odin ji6 one click restore on it.

Moved to Q&A as not android development
Write lets get since information in here...
No technically you do not need to go back to stock but it is always a good idea. No matter what phone model or what stock it came with going back to jh6 is the best bet. It is the tried and true method and better then jh7.so just use the normal common odin

You could just flash over but the thing you would have to get past is 3e recovery there is a fix for that. I think there was a time when all new roms in xda were based on official 2.2 software back in october and november of last year and it had 3e, and the easiest way to get past it was to flash stock first. also there are two versions of odin you should try to get familiar with and a recently updated wiki sorta thread should be useful for up to date info. Hope this helps.

Help, i need this REALLY fast.

Now i don't know how to get back...

He's running a custom 2.2 ROM and wants to go back to stock 2.1
Should i use Odin? Will this brick anything if it goes wrong?
Damnit i'm in trouble
right ! chill out, take a breath lol you will be back to normal before you no it !!
first of all, go to www.samfirmware.com to get the firmware you need.
put the downloaded files in the correct boxes using Odin.
If the firmware comes in 3 files, Use 512 PIT and check re-partition
hit start, wait for the pass sign and your done !!
You need the jm1 firmware from samfirmware.com, use the flashing instructions on their site using odin.its very simple, just take your time. Jm1 is a low level firmware for 2.1 which will enable you to upgrade to the latest offering via kies making your phone completely stock and "legit".
It will remove the 3 button recovery and download mode which you can restore using instructions elsewhere but I guess that is the least of your worries for now and is the price for going back to eclair.
Good luck and take your time.
Please hit the thanks button if you find this post useful

you have to flash it using odin. try to find your original firmware in www.samfirmware.com, if not, try to find it using checkfusdownloader descrybed in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032437.
once you flash it, sometimes you need to restore your csc code using *#272* Imei # .
once you done that, your phone will be like new, and kies will recognize it, and you will be able to upgrade it via Kies.
You say that you saved the original rom .
That should be re storable depending upon format as to how .

turn the phone off press and hold volume down , the middle button and power this should give you download mode....
and why would your friend want 2.1? doesn't even support flash...
You should tell your friend to flash JS8 android 2.2.1 it will make the sgs alot better

so i tried odin one click and it freezes up when it wants to set partitions never even begins.... now odin seems like its freezing up cant even get a kernel flash to run
everything fails when i try to flash via odin! im frustrated as F**K
R u trying to flash the kernel ".tar" through Odin ??
U could try Heimdall instead of Odin.
Or if u have Root, use SGS Kernel Flasher by NELDAR from Google Play Store.
