No, will not work. Best you'll do is Edge.
A brief article for you:

Well then I guess I have to get rid of this phone and get some sort of T-Mobile phone. This phone is a captivate rooted with cm7 and sim unlocked. It has a cracked outer screen and normal wear.
The captivate doesnt have the Band required to connect to the 3G network (I think it is 1700MHZ).
Nothing to do..

Yes, but not immensely well. Search the Q&A forums-- this topic has come up a few times. The biggest problem IIRC is that you have to constantly search for your network if you get disconnected.

[Q] using an AT&T One on Tmobile?

Hey everyone. A friend of mine is giving me his One (he switched to iphone). He's on AT&T and I'm on T-Mobile. Could I get it to work with my service? Would I be able to get hspa+ or LTE service?
Thanks.

the phone will work but the data speed will depend on your area. in some cases you will be stuck with Edge (slow) Data speeds. You can switch to a straight talk plan that works fine on AT&T Devices

This question has probably been answered 1,345,321 times, but I'll answer it anyways. Yes, it will work, but the experience may be subpar because the phone lacks / has disabled the AWS H+ band.

Can I buy an unlock code for this version and then work on AT&T LTE?

Just wondering if possible?

You should not need to, as all Verizon phones are already unlocked. You just won't get lte on other networks

You just corroborated what I just said.
The fastest network speeds you will get are 3G HSPA+

I find it extroardinary you were able to even temporarily get a 4G signal.
That said, you could try changing your APN settings. Here is a link to an article explaining how.
