I am a fan of both and recommend those 2 when i find others using android . im a bit of a bigger swype fan though because of using it so long but with the new swiftkey official out for only $.99 vs $3.99 i had to get it even if i am on swype. i am just wondering how the forum feels about the 2 keyboards...
I own both. I enjoy both. I switch between them. Along with better keyboard, smart keyboard, ultra keyboard, slide it, desire keyboard, and stock.

I use swype as my everyday keyboard, and have been looking for a replacement as I find it makes too many of the same mistakes, it needs some kind of contextual error correction. I tried SwiftKey and it found it didn't seem to register all my key presses when I typed quickly. The only reason I like swype over any other keyboard is because you can type pretty fast one handed. Coming from a blackberry, I'm still looking for a good keyboard for android.
I can't type with Swype on the go.. Therefore I couldn't care less for it. Not walking, not driving, not stopped at a light with the phone in the car dock, etc..
I really don't see how these two keyboards compare at all? Swype is intended to be a continuous swipe of the finger, SwiftKey is JAFK.
I bought SwiftKey as it's cheap, but honestly I still use HTC IME primarily. SwiftKey is still a little quirky sometimes.
I love swiftkey, I rarely type, the future predictions of swiftkey saves me a lot of time and energy. It cost only $0.99
.....I've never tried Swype before

wow thats alot of keyboards...
i told a friend that got a nexus so everything i like i send to him and swype was the 1st keyboard he used. hes not able to run it at all now so he switched to swiftkey but still didnt like it. i recommended slideit and he loves it. i can see why. 2 features swype doesnt have that slideit does is the voice-to-text and the possible words on the top of the keyboard. swype does have a small pop up of possible words but that seems to waste more time. i hope swype improves because its such a popular keyboard.
Currently using Swype but I bought SwiftKey as it was on sale.
What I am really waiting for is BlindType it looks awesome that you can type without a keyboard blocking half the screen.
Well, I'm currently using the swype beta, and also bought swift key to take advantage of the sale.
So far I think that swift key has a slight advantage over swype because it can be used to write in different languages at the same time, which is really important to me because I'm constantly writing in both Spanish and English.
However, I think that my typing was a bit faster with swype, and changing the swype language isn't that much of a hassle.
So yeah, I haven't quite decided on it yet.

The MAIN reason I stay with Swype is speed, English and Spanish, plus speed

Yeah.. agreed with speed.. We can type quickly with swype.
Anyone try ultra keyboard?

I use both. Swype is great for entering a short block of words. It has a terrible unresolved UI bug where you can't disable pop up notifications of dictionary collisions, especially if they involve names from my address book. For example, typing "to" collides with "Yip" about 50% of the time.
If I'm typing many sentences, eventually this Swype bug makes want to chuck my phone out the window, so I switch to SwiftKey. I love how it predicts strings of 4-5 words at a time. But then my fingers get tired of hunting and pecking, and back to Swype I go.

i love Swype! =)
You guys should say if you've used both before proclaiming one keyboard as #1.
I've never used Swype, but I'm really happy with Swift right now.
Hate swypes vertical word prediction box. It should be horizontal like every other keyboard. Swift is actually a more accurate. Infact...I'm kind of getting tired of swype...so I'm trying to migrate over to Swift.
After using swift for a while it is starting to piss me off it will try to auto correct me when I don't misspell things. But swype can be hard because sometime my finger won't slide very easily. I turn off the box that picks words if I misspell words I correct them when I get done.

What keyboards are you guys using on your Droid Eris? I've tried so many but none can keep up with my typing speed. I can type so fast on an iPhone but when I type on my Eris, I always have to slow down because my phone is still trying to catch up or got stuck on one error or something.
I tried Swype but I'm just not as accurate as the regular keyboards.
Since I've basically lost interest in Swype because of their lack of releases for any new users, I decided to try SwiftKey.
I noticed they were running a sale (yep, guess Android dev's do that sometimes) so I decided I would try it. The text prediction is so good most of the time you only have to type one or two letters of a word. Not sure how it keeps up with speed, since I rarely type any full words. There's a free version you can try and see if you like it, just search "SwiftKey Keyboard Free" in the market and you'll find it.
I don't think I've tried SwiftKey, but I use Ultra Keyboard (Swype-like). Before that, I had tried Swype through several beta versions, but I thought it sucked, honestly. I preferred ShapeWriter to Swype; it worked better. ShapeWriter isn't available on the market any more, but I may have a backup of the last available version in an apk if anyone needs it (it was free anyway).
SwiftKey's text prediction is what got me hooked. In terms of "learning" it's one of the best keyboards, after about a week or two of moderate use you'll barley have to type anything anymore.
+1 for SwiftKey. I hate that it's bland whute and gray, but it's definitely the smartest keyboard. I too have tried them all, but keep coming back. My routine is this: flash rom, use themed, native kb for few hours because it looks cool, then break down and swap SwiftKey into system/app. The ability to have it instantly "learn" my language from my saved text messages is a nice touch aa well. It tracks saved keystrokes and I'm always @ 25-30%.

Why would you post something like this and not give us a URL so we can get it?
I was thinking the same thing.
I tried swiftkey and liked it but had a much better expeirence with swype seemed like I was making less mistakes which is always nice
I've been a big fan of smart keyboard pro lately. it's quite fast and accurate and it has a "dynamic key resizing feature" which helps improve it's accuracy. I think it's safe to say that it is my favorite keyboard and i've pretty much tried them all. swiftkey... swype... better keyboard... ultra keyboard... ect.
edit: Ohh and I forgot to add that it's auto correct is pretty kick ass too.

I agree. I've been using gingerbread keyboard for several days now and have been very happy with it so far. I also just installed the new beta swype but I just can't seem to get into swype. I guess I like typing better than sliding my finger across the screen.
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/05/14/flext9-keyboard-is-free-today-from-amazon-you-better-get-this-one/
FlexT9 on Android is free today (normally $4.99) from the Amazon Appstore and we’re definitely recommending that you go grab it. While it make look a little i*hone-ish, it might be one of the best keyboards you’ll ever use. Not only is it easy to type on, it also allows you to swipe words, use voice-to-text, and even write out words free-hand. And not to hate on Swype, but this keyboards seems to have a couple of swiping bonuses over it.

Guys if you haven't signed up with with the Amazon app store, now is the time! Today this wonderful keyboard is free, and it's wonderful!
Imagine a combination of the fluid iphone multi-touch keyboard, swype, tracing, fluid word prediction and an advanced voice recognition algorithm by the prestigious company Dragon Naturally Speaking!
It's this keyboard! It's extremely awesome, and it's free today!
I was actually pleasantly surprised with this keyboard. I'll try it as a Swype replacement for a few weeks and see what comes of it.
I've been using this keyboard all day today. I like that when it gives you choices it's not a popup like Swype. The voice recognition on it is pretty good as well.
I think this definitely compares with Swype. Two downsides, though: you can't swype punctuation or single-letter words and it's just plain ugly.
Been using it for a bit now. I will try it for a while.

i actually like it better than swype and I think I'll be sticking with this app. My only complaint is that it takes longer to replace a word that I already "swyped" but otherwise, its awesome.
i like it better than swype! Got it free with the amazon store.
One question, swiping only seems to work in the messaging app but not in browser or anything, does anyone else experience this?
Been my favorite since I bought it......
Don't use anything else. In the end purchased apps are the best. I would jump t this opportunity if I had no already had it.
Looks interesting, I might have to give this a try and see if I like it any better than swype.
Yeah, I'm still using this keyboard and I like it quite a bit. The ugliness still gets me, though.
I like it and am currently using it full time. Only gripe I have is it's a tad slower.

I don't know about how everyone else feels, but I cannot use the swiping feature of Swype on the Aria. It's just too small for me to see what letter I'm covering up with my finger.
Also - when I use my left hand to "swype" and need to enter letters normally my right hand types, I slow down considerably.
In short - for me, Swype fails because of the way I typically type.
I can see this working better for larger screen devices or for people who have always used just one hand to type. But I find swyping very slow.
Just wondering how you all get around it (maybe use in landscape mode?)...
I have a Legend, (very, very, very similar in specs to the Aria), and I find Swyping in portrait works like a charm. Sure, it's a bit slow, but what can a little overclock not fix ;-)
I also find that Swyping in landscape is very inaccurate for me, probably because the prediction engines are adjusted for landscape use.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
I have gotten so used to swype that's all I can use now. Get the "real" swype's from their website, not the fake pirated ones.
I have seen people swype in landscape and that just seems odd to me. swype was made to be fast turning you phone over every time to type is not fast, and I know a guy that has an htc evo and swypes in landscape? the keys are in different spots in landscape, so if your used to portrait you will have a hard time swpying.
So I just downloaded the latest Swype and I have to say its fun, quick, and pretty accurate. I just wish it had more options like getting rid of voice and Swype help button to make the space bar bigger. also it would be cool if you had more customizing options. Other than that its definitely worth trying out.
Swype.....not skype. Duh
I stopped using Swype for smart keyboard pro a few months ago but went ahead and gave the new Swype a try and all I can say is WOW! It has improved so much. Its 100 times more accurate than the previous versions.
To Dan: it takes a little getting used to but after a while it becomes muscle memory with the
letter placement to where you don't need to see the letters your finger is blocking and your finger just knows where to go. Until you can Swype without thinking about where the next letter is it will never be as fast as the two thumb approach. Even then, using two thumbs might still be faster. But for 'one handed' typing you really can't beat Swyping once you're used to it. I also highly recommend the tutorials on their website. Might sound silly but after using the tutorials my Swyping speed improved very noticeably. There's a lot of neat little tricks you might not otherwise ever know existed on the Swype keyboard.

Just out of curiosity, which keyboard do you prefer on your Note?
Thanks, guys, and take care.
I do have a quick question for the Swype users.
How long did it take you guys to get proficient with the Swype keyboard? Because I've seen some Swypers hammer out words/sentences like mad, yet I could never get the hang of it myself, try as I may.....which is my loss since it's a great concept.
I guess I'm just Swype-challenged...LOL
I go back to swiftkey but I do wish it was more customizable after all it's not "real" so one should be able to change some things. The extensive languages also make it nice to use although with three languages the predictive text becomes tricky to use.

A few days. I cannot stand all that tapping!
I need to proof-read what I wrote, however, as it often gets it wrong. A simple process, and quick, but I often forget, giving some strange emails (like those iPhone 'auto-correct' jokes )
I usually use swiftkey x, however, i've been playing with messagease keyboard. I have to say, i'm adjusting pretty fast, and it's an interesting take on a smartphone keypad, ditching qwerty altogether. It's worth a try, if you like unusual keypads.

I have noticed with swype, when I'm texting and swyping words rather fast (not insanely fast) from one side of the screen to the other eg. the word challenge, it loses 'connection' and words come up randomly.
So I just tried swyping left to right really fast and does that in both landscape and portrait mode. Never had this problem with my streak and I even booted it up to test.
Anyone else have this problem?
SwiftKey x for me also. I just wish I could have the full row of number key at the top!

I like to swype
I prefer Swype, but I have been using it for almost 2 years on my Galaxy S.
I think it was quicker on my Galaxy S though because the keyboard wasn't as big.
On the Note, it seems like the keys are so far apart and it takes longer to Swype out a word.
Maybe I just need to get used to it a bit more.
I also seem to get more erroneous/unwanted words with the Note and I have to manually choose the one I want from the suggestions. Maybe it needs to learn my common words, or maybe I need to adjust the Swype settings a bit, I'm not sure.
I might have to work out a good keyboard for me for landscape mode though as landscape just seems too big for Swype and 2 hands might be more efficient.

I know there are probably a million threads about preferences of replacement keyboards but the stock keyboards on my s3, note 2, s4, and note 3 worked well so I never replaced them... however this S5 keyboard is painfully slow even with swype...

I personally use SwiftKey. Been using that since the S2. It's aurocorrect is amazing and it's predictions work well. I paid for it (3 or 4 bucks I think) but the free version works fine. You can type really quick and it also includes a Swype option (they call it "flow") you can also let it scan your emails, Facebook posts, texts, etc and it'll learn how you actually type, memorize what slang you use, etc.
Lots of customization options down to the look, feel, what certain actions do (double tap space bar for period, auto caps, etc).
The straight up Google keyboard works very well too. There's also Fleksy which is still a tad new and a lot of people like it, just didn't work out that we'll for me.
Hope that gets you started!

I've actually just been using the stock Samsung keyboard this whole time. I liked the overall feel of it, plus the predictions were accurate.
