Hey friends,
Quick question: Has anybody figured out a way to do swap disks on psx4droid (like FFVII requires) without having to load the save game onto your pc, changing the filetype, and finishing disk swap with a psx emulator for pc?
Thanks!
interesting question....I havent gotten there yet but would be nice to know. ussually after the disc swap you save your game and then you can turn it off, then reopen the app and load the second disc and continue from your save file (not save state)
I haven't had this problem. I just save at the end of the disk and load the next disk and start from there. Are you saving at the ends of the disks using the apps built in save mechanism or the "memory card" save options at the end of the disks? You need to save the way you would on the PlayStation to load next disk.

I've recently installed Android to NAND and was looking for a way to mount the sdcard as a usb mass storage device in windows from within Android. I came across an interesting widget on the Android market called "Dual Mount SD Widget":
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-protocol-usb-jBAw.aspx
So I downloaded and installed it to see if it really works... well, IT DOES!
I used voguimg-320x480-17-02-10.nbh and Plemens Android Feb 8th build.
Here's what I did.
1. Download widget. Install. Add to Android desktop.
2. Tap on it. It will say "SD Split"
3. Plug in USB cord to the phone.
4. Notification area says "USB Connected". Don't do anything (ie. Mount it).... Instead, wait about 30secs to a minute.
5. Vista pops up the default actions window for the sdcard. My Computer also lists the sdcard as a removable drive.
I've transferred files back and forth with no problem. Not only that, Astro can see the SD card contents as well at the same time.
Now, the interesting part is that the description for the widget says:
"This widget Modifies a setting that will allow you to mount your SD card to your phone and PC/Radio/ect at the same time."
I'm wondering what setting was modified and if it is possible to build this in so that we don't need to use the widget anymore.

GREAT find! I am testing right now...
EDIT: Works excellent! It doesn't seem to be in the market for me...maybe because qvga, but I found it online.
I'm running:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
ADB Drivers installed by PDANet (not that it affects the SD mount)
Sourceforge 2-14-10 NBH (240x320)
Myn's Warm Donut with Hero theme.
This is awesome!
EDIT2: I can also run ADB/tether with PDANet and use mass storage simultaneously.
This is Fantastic!! It works. Great find man. didnt find it on the market but i did find it on the net. im using version 1.6
EDIT: you should take off the "possible" from your title as it is a perfect fix
Working perfect with Myn's Warm Donut + Windows 7 64 bit. Thanks for the tip!
Definitely works! (Using Ubuntu Karmic)
I was only able to find version 1.0 on the net - couldn't find it on the market.

How do you get it on the phone? Then how do you install it? All I have is a .apk file...what do I do with it? Vista does not recognize my phone, and I do not have a card reader. Thanks.
$1 in market. works great.

Man do us a favor and pl take off "Possible" from the title. This is THE fix.
Could you remind me why it's not possible without this app? is it a kernel or user space issue?
A long time ago, dzo told us that this could be solved when nand boot would be ready. Now, that's ready, what avoid solving this problem?
How fast is USB Mass Storage with the Vogue? Does anyone remember the transfer speeds it's rated for?
I'm using a class 6 MicroSD so I guess the card reader method will still be faster for me?

as I recall the notion was that running from nand would allow us the option of dismounting the sd card from the system so it could be used by USB mass storage. currently, nand still uses a cache on the sd card, so this is not yet possible.
this program allows both the system and the usb mass storage to access the sd card at the same time. I'm sure if someone cared enough to backwards engineer this we could incorporate something similar. however, why bother when there is a perfectly usable program already.
So this won't work using ext2 or fat for haret users I assume?

I'm running haret on a partitioned card (fat 32 and ext2) and it works great for me - just tested it.

~500kb write and ~800kb read (with class 4) results may vary

I confirm this also, running fat32 and 2 512Mb ext2 partitions. this is very handy. I found the 1.65 version doing a Google search, and that is what I have tested.
I would love to find out what this widget is doing so we can add the functionality to the base roms. I haven't had a close look at this yet but does anybody know exactly what it's doing?

So correct me if I'm wrong, but it would seem that if your SD card is class 4, this will still be grossly slower than simply taking the card out and using a card reader, no? 800 kb vs 4 mb / sec? or do I have the figures wrong... For small files this is convenient but for large amounts of music files etc it probably is less practical - granted not eveyone has a card reader

Right - unless you're running off SD card and can't take your SD card out . . .
I have just bought a Nook Color and slapped CM7 on it (very nice BTW). I would like to transfer files from my desktop to my Nook so they can be accessed at any time even when not on Wi-Fi.
At times of Wi-Fi, I can always use Dropbox, but how can I get them to stay on the Nook to be accessed whenver.
These files would usually be PDF, Excel, Word, other office type files.
Thanks.
Just use a micro SD card, I'm pretty sure cm7 requires one anyway, so there is no reason to have one.
Also, you can download files ffrom dropbox to your SD card for offline storage through the app itself
Sent from my B&N Nook Color
You can drag and drop the files when your Power cable USB is plugged into your PC.
You just need to open your NC notification bar - when it's plugged in - so your PC recognizes the device.
Sorry for the noob questions, but how would I open those files? Would I need to use a specific app? or will CM7 automatically open them?
If you long press on files in the dropbox app it gives you the choice to save them. They save to sdcard/dropbox. How they open depends on the file type. The nook can open several different kinds of files natively and you can download apps from the market to open anything that it won't. As for the actual process of opening files I usually use my file manager to navigate to the file I want to open and click on it. The nook will either open the file (if only one app handles that file type), ask which app I want to use to open the file, or nothing happens which means I have no app installed that can open that file type.
For office type files I suggest getting ezPDF free from the market and paying for Documents To Go. That way you can edit the MS Office stuff if you need to. RTFs suck. The only thing I know that will open them is the ebook app Cool Reader.
I hope this helps. We all started out as noobs.
also a noob here. i had copied the files to the nook already. so how do i access them now? i can't seem to get my way into this.
thanks!
To access your files use a file explorer such as root explorer.

Palm to forhead... I was missing the notification bar part. Couldn't figure out why I couldn't access any files on the Nook from my PC. Now I just need to figure out if there is a default directory where I am supposed to put music and movies on the microSD card.

No default place for music and movies but it would be simplest to just make a folder called music and one called movies just so that they are easier for you to f/nd.

Running cm7 off sdcard and just did something stupid.
I set the cpu speed up a notch (from 1200 to 1325) and raised the voltages up just one notch. And without setting it to go back to default on boot, I took the sd card out, loaded the nightly build (143), put it back into the nook and did a recovery boot.
It Applied the upgrade and I rebooted for a normal sdcard startup. After the home screen gets populated and all the routine icons appear (and looks normal) nothing more can happen. Touching any of the icons does nothing, and hitting the power button won't hide the screen. All I can do is press and hold the power button for about ten seconds to turn the unit off.
When booting to NC, all works as expected.
I really don't want to loose the other work I did over the last few days!!
Since it's the Nook Color Tweaks app that does the adjusting during boot, I'd pop the SD into some system that can handle a partitioned SD (Linux will absolutely work, Windoze probably not) and delete this folder and all contents:
/data/data/com.dalingrin.nookcolortweaks
This should blow away the settings. Put it back into your NC and try to boot. If that doesn't let you boot, do it all again (remove the above folder) but also remove
/data/app/com.dalingrin.nookcolortweaks-2.apk
You'll have to reinstall Nook Color Tweaks after this, but the settings should be back to default.
You may have to dig a bit to figure out the partitions, and their names probably won't make sense. For instance, on Linux it may be something like /media/sdc2/data or /media/B3-A7/data instead of /data/data. I forget how the SD install names the partitions, or if it names them at all.
If there's some recovery tool that'll let you do the above on the NC itself, somebody please post it here and let us all know.
Good luck!
Thanks for that info, it makes sense to me.
I don't have a Linux system handy but may just build one for the heck of it.I suppose that would take more effort than just re-doing my work on the sd card however, but it would help me REMEMBER to make changes with a backup plan
Cancel that previous idea! I don't have a spare system that contains an sd reader.
Perhaps a bootable cd/dvd that can access the sd partitions would be the right answer. If so, can anyone give me a 'shortcut' to build this or download a prebuilt iso image. Thanks.
I hear ya. I wouldn't've enjoyed my NC half as much if I'd been using Windoze to mess with it. I could just pop my SD into my office or home machine and have full access to everything. Very handy. Not being able to do that is the only downside to running from emmc that I've encountered so far. But I haven't had any disasters yet.
I downloaded an iso image for Slax V6. Unfortunately its for a cd, and all I have are dvds. I suppose that it isn't possible to burn this to dvd and have it work
If you burn the img to a DVD, it should work (Isoburner is free and does a good job for that).
Slax 6? Is that a live cd image? You don't have to install Linux, you can use the distros that boot off of the cd/dvd when you burn the image, like Puppy, Linux Mint, or PCLinuxOS. You can get links to those at
http://www.distrowatch.com
If you're familiar with Linux, Slax is great, but if you haven't done a lot with it, I'd go with Mint or PCLinuxOS. Those distros are easy to use, and should have the tools you need. You can also download DVD's of those, if you like.
While waiting, I found a flavor of slax to write to a thumb drive and make it bootable .
So I tried this out on a 4gb thumb. It boots fine, but when it runs startx, it just sits there . I can do a ctl-alt-del to reboot, but it is dead beyond that. I can boot it up to log on as root with just the cmd line input, but I am deperately lacking in the knowhow to navigate to access the sd drive .
And this is starting to look like it is becoming an 'off topic' thread, so I appologize to the subject gods.
[Solved] Thanks for helping
Finally bit-the-bullet and just rebuild the sdcard, etc.
Was spending more time trying to recover than it would have taken to rebuild.

how to downloada app higher than 50 MB in phone without wi fi connection????
my phone is lumia 720. I have no wi fi connection, so i can't able to download the games like Six Guns from the store.
is there any way to download the app in uc browser and install manually in windows phone. I downloaded the app google.xap from windowsphone.com app and games section in uc browser. But when i try to install the file it shows a error.
First point: stop using all bold. It's just kind of annoying.
Second point. it's up to your carrier. Overriding that setting is currently not possible on Nokia WP8 devices.
Third point: If you phone has a microSD card (I forget whether the Lumia 720 supports one or not), then yes, there is a way. Download the app (on your PC) from the Windows Phone Apps + Games website. It will be a .XAP file (don't bother trying to open it; it's encrypted using PlayReady DRM). Put that file on the microSD card (either by removing the card from the phone and using a card-writer on your PC, or by attaching the phone over USB and writing to the SDCard "folder" using Windows Explorer). Then on the phone, open the Store. You should see an option of "SD Card", and you should be able to install the app from there. Note: this only works for store apps, and it still needs an Internet connection, but it works for large apps.

I know how install app from sd card.
just want to know how to download in mobile...
anyway thanx
You could try using a proxy server to override the maximum download over cellular data rule. The phone only checks that once a day though, I think, and it's checked in the background (you can't trigger it). Still, changing that value might do the trick.
I really can't imagine anywhere in the world where using that much cellular data costs less than going to somewhere with WiFi though, or even getting a WiFi adaptor for your PC.
Also, your phone *might* download via the PC's connection if you're connected over USB. WP7 would; I'm not sure if WP8 does or not. It still has a IP-over-USB connection, but the only thing I *know* it's used for is communicating with the Visual Studio debugger.

Thanks! It helped me!
I have several game emulators for games I legally own. I want to use the SD card for game roms but I'm running into trouble when I try to access them through the emulators. I'm getting a message about read access permission being denied. This doesn't make sense as the emulators only need read access to load the roms. Am I missing something? Is there a switch in the settings anywhere to enable read access by apps? I'd really like to reserve the mini's internal storage for apps as 16 gigs isn't a heck of a lot. I have a 128 gig SD card mostly sitting dormant because of this issue. I'm not worried if I can't write to it, I can do that from my pc. I'm just puzzled as to why my emulators are denied access from it. Is there a non root way to fix this?
Sent from my LG-V521 using Tapatalk
I found a work around oddly enough, but I need a real solution. If I open the rom from the SD card, I can select the appropriate emulator to play it. I can even get back to it from "recent games"... I just can't get the emulators to read the directory path which would populate the games directories in the emulators. What a pain!
Sent from my LG-V521 using Tapatalk
I gave in and updated because my SD card was more or less sitting dormant making it pretty much useless. So I updated to the latest update and sure enough GMS was removed. However it was available for reinstallation. So when all was said and done, I got read and write access to my SD card and was able to reinstall GMS from a known good source. All is well with the world again.
