Anyone know if the Car Home app DG put in the Froyo Cog 5.5 can run Eclair?
I tried putting the .apk in the system folder and it deletes it out on reboot.
I tried installing the .apk, but get a parse error.
Just wondering, cause I really like the look n feel of it (but not happy with the Froyo Beta's due to email issues and lack of support for Bluetooth voice commands).

I saw that one on the market, but didn't think to try it; I did - from your suggestion - and it's pretty cool. Thanks!
No worries, I thought it was pretty good myself.
Added: There is an app called Car Home Samsung Captivate in the market but you can't customize it.

Please can you post the apk here.

Hi Captn, I'm the developer of CarHome Beta. I haven't released it outside of the USA because it does not currently support metric units. I expect to have metric support soon and will release it to the UK at that time.
Thanks
Hi SpinningHead
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I'm quite happy to have a non-metric version - We still deal in miles and farenheit in the UK!
Otherwise I'll wait for it to be available outside the USA.

Do you know what they mean by MT? I noticed it said that they had backported some MT from Eclair, but if its Multi Touch, I couldn't get it to do anything.

yeah, that will never work on the vogue. resistive touch screens can't do multitouch, they just average two points; many other reasons as well why we will never have multitouch on our devices.
I do love the new night mode in nav. buzz, i'm still undecided about. kinda cool though.
Buzz is pretty cool... just a toy though, I think it's more for kiddies
Is this 4.0 the one that was just updated in the marketplace? I'm guessing this version is for users outside of the US who cannot access it?

Correct- since swype is still "in open/closed beta" stage, Swype has asked XDA not too distribute the apk on our forums.

I know. I'm just poking fun that a huge corporation/website is now advocating the free distribution of what is basically warez...
Wonder what Swype will do now? Haha
Wow always wanted to try swype but havent been able to get it,... moral dilemma on this one,.. i mean in a way its swypes fault for making us want it soooo bad and taking so long to get it out right ??? i may just have to flip a coin on this
6 months ago I would have told you Swype was the coolest thing going, but today SwiftKey has a created a better product that features a voice input key (how hard is this Swype???) and better word prediction/speed

What are you talking about? I use Swype and my battery life is on par with everyone else. Standby power loss of an average of 1% per hour, Swype doesn't use any more battery than any other input method in standby.
Heck, it is even the default keyboard on my G1, which sees about 1.5% standby drain per hour - with wifi always active (set to never sleep).
I believe you are misinformed.
wait, what is the newest version of swype? I'm using the 1.6 (before cnet leaked), is there a newer version?

I actually found another keyboard with tracing capabilities along with a lot more features highly customizable too costs like 2.50ish but has a free 245hour version i loved it bought full version anyone used ultra keyboard yet ???
Which one are you using? If your telling me there is a choice with this swype stuff I would sooner just pay someone for a file that will do this then have to hunt down a new beta every 3 months. I just thought they were the only ones who were making something like this? Also if they have a trial to see if it works the same, cause if so then I don't care what I got to pay I just want to not have to keep having it die out on me.
Lame swiftkey doesn't use tracing capabilities that I need.

There's Ultra Keyboard and SlideIT
http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/com.binarybulge.android.apps.keyboard.trial/
http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/com.dasur.slideit.vt.lite/
Both have trial versions.
There's also ShapeWriter, which was pulled off the market when the company was bought out, but you can find the full apk they released that doesn't have a time out via a quick Google search.
"As we bring Shapewriter into the Nuance family, please note that we are suspending downloads of the iPhone, Android and Windows Mobile applications."

no one has 2.3.3 yet :-(
Wow, great to see some early practical demo work! Gives me hope that NFC might not be so useless in the near term after all.
Thanks! ...Now I just have to wait for 2.3.3. >.>
wow! thank you!
time to play with it

Sorry we made you guys wait, but we wanted to make sure it was in the market the second the OTA came out, which is any day now according to google.

Correct, we make hooks in the software so it only installs on phones with 2.3.3 and NFC. These requirements are needed to do NFC tag writing.

Yubikeys are quite neat, fairly inexpensive, USB security tokens. They happen to have a MiFare classic NFC chip built in too. Fairly easy to get hold of across Europe if you want to experiment.

ok so its clear that 'some' I9023's have 2.3.3 pre-loaded. its also clear that NXP guys have it, coz well they made the chip in the nexus (right?) and they cant test it without it. there's apparently some BT profiles also coming with 2.3.3 (file transfer, etc). can anyone confirm this?
I wonder what the hold up is.

Same for me. I just upgraded to 2.3.3 but I can't find the TagWriter app in the Market from my phone. If I go to https ://market.android.com/details?id=com.nxp.nfc.tagwriter on my PC, it won't let me push it to my Nexus S either as the device is grayed out.

Things like this are common when google updates a handset. They need to update the servers to allow the updated devices to access apps. some other apps will be missing to like the official Paypal app.
Have to wait.
Seen this on another thread somewhere the other day.
For those of us who manually installed the update early is there any chance of NXP posting up a direct link to the apk? Not sure if that will work but I dont see why not
I'm starting to think this is Vapor Ware, or maybe Malware, they hyped the app, then seemed to falloff the face of the earth. Anyone try to install the app and see any weird things on the phone after?
Not saying I have, just asking if anyone has.
crackle is back but not in the app store for the streak 7. but the good news is it does work i downloaded for my g2x then copied the apk over to the streak and it works great

I run on Custom 2.2.2, as well. Some of us need our device bug free; Honeycomb looks great (and performs great; I did run it on my S7 for a little bit), but HoneyStreak still has some bugs to iron out. It's a great beta, though, and shows a lot of promise.
Just grabbed this app, actually found a link on xda to download it, loaded fine on my DS7 stock and just watched a 2 hour movie with no issues...awesome!

Nah - I'm happy with honeystreak 1.5 - challenging - I like fixing bugs and figuring out why it doesn't work and try to fix it - it makes it so much more special when it works...besides if I wanted a "bug free device" I would stick to my ipad 2 but its boring - I'm actually using dell streak 7 more than my ipad 2 jailbroken etc etc -
Like I said on this website - no need the app since you can go view it on the website unlike netflix which also works on honeycomb 1.5
Peace out!
I have DS7 with latest Official rom, could get Crackle to side load from link above, but only get black screen when try to play --
any thoughts?
Android 3.x ??
Does anybody know of an updated app that will work with stock Android 3.0.x?
I am wondering if I install the apk from the above link if 'Market' will still update to newer version as is currently happening on my Android 2.0.x device.
>>UPDATE>> As others the 'Crackle' app (from the link above) will only play audio, its a shame that we can not get a working version.
And its a shame the only true streaming media company is 'NETFLIX' currently
As my "UV" moives / media will not stream through 'Flixster'... and yet the streak has higher spec's than the devices that they do support!

Yes, I noticed this several days ago, and i'm sure they removed it because they were sick of the low ratings since it didn't scale correctly.
The letters were cut off at the bottom so u could only see 3/4 of it, people kept down rating it because of that. E looked like F unless you physically moved the tile out to see the bottom.
And it still says this on the market page:
"We are actively working on improving the Words With Friends as much as possible. Players can look forward to expecting a Honeycomb version soon."
So like i said, I'm sure we will beable to download it again once it's fixed and an official tablet version is released. And yes, that update notification was a month ago like i said.
I submitted a ticket to voice my opinion. Us Honeycombers need to speak up if we want more app support.

Yep, I hope the honeycomb one comes out soon like it says!
It was cut off at the bottom, but it was still playable. I don't see why they had to remove support while they get their act together for honeycomb.
I opened my app today and it says "An upgrade is available, click OK to upgrade" (no other options). I click OK and am redireted to the Market, where I am unable to upgrade because my device is no longer supported. I go back ot the app and am greeted with the same message telling me to "upgrade" with no "cancel" or "later" option, just "OK"
The box refuses to go away (back button doesn't work either) so I'm unable to play. This is utterly moronic.

Wanting more honeycomb apps is fine but make sure you complain to the right people. If zynga is for sure already working on a honeycomb version then bugging them is useless.
