I'm planning on buying a Galaxy S but before I do that I would like to know some things.
First of all, I don't want the whole Touchwiz thing so I'm wondering if there is a Vanilla Android 2.2 rom avaible for the Galaxy S?
Or is it possible to pull the Touchwiz launcher and push the android stock launcher with adb?
Also, is it possible to flash roms from the captivate/vibrant/etc. to the Galaxy S? Cause from what I've seen there are more roms avaible for those devices.
1.) No
2.)Yes, ADW launcher,Launcher Pro, Zeam Launcher are the popluar ones
3.)Im not sure there might be internal hardware differences, your welcome to try though ^^

the rom has been available for a while but i dont know if anyone has been able to extract it. it was some weird file system or someting.
If anyone picks it up, itll probably be for the i9000 at first, so here's to hopes of a reoriented rom
One can dream.......would be sweet!
i dont think we'll see a ported rom but maybe some ported apk's and it should be gingerbread so maybe ported on the galaxy s 2.3.2 leak if any of the devs over in that forum get around to it.
though a port to cm7 for a weird hybrid would be cool also.
Hello, I only recently upgraded my Note via the OTA to 4.0.3. I like the look and feel of it but the appearance is not so good in my point of view. I was wondering if anyone could suggest ways to delete TouchWiz or a good stock ics ROM like the one of the Galaxy Nexus. I have never rooted before but i'm open to the possibility if I can find a good tutorial.
Thanks in advance for coping with my n00b question.
hey
hi this is a new member
Well, if you want to get a stock ICS look (or something close to it) without the need to root or tamper with your device, check out Nova launcher. It looks almost identical to the stock ICS, minus the widgets being in the app menu which can be done to with root, and also it has the ability to have 7 wide dock bar like the Nexus 7.
precisely, as stated above, do you want to change the launcher or entire ROM? there's plenty of launchers in the market, as for room, you may find few with clean, un-samsung-ed Android, like CM9, paranoid etc.
What is better?

What would you as a senior member suggest to just get the clean stock ics look rooting or not doesn't make a difference?

If you're feeling adventurous, I'd recommend paranoid android, cm9 or aokp for pure ics feel.
If not feeling adventurous go with an alternative launcher.

Root Galaxy Note
Hello again, after extensive research I have come across a forum post here on xda that says I can root my Note and using root explorer remove the twlauncher which is basically the touchwiz interface.
I was wondering if this can really work and will it just be like a stock ics like on the Galaxy Nexus?

TW Launcher should be removable, however, I'd install another launcher first - otherwise you mught end up with no possibility to run anything. Besides that, removing tw launcher, will not give different system look, it's just an app launcher.
Why nobody wants to complete the ICS port from SGS II to SGS? There are themes that imitate well stock ROMs, but the biggest drawback is that you can not use sliding left right to call or send messages. There Ex dialer but does not compare to feeling of Samsung dialler. Escuse my bad English!
I totally agree with you.
I tried some ICS roms and finally I came back to stock rom just for the feeling and the easy of use it provides.
Every new rom of ICS or JB for the SGS comes from Nexus S or other phones and it doesn't have the appearance or the functionality of stock GB roms.
Apart from that, every custom ICS or JB rom is worth and the developers deserve every credit and thank you in the world but I also wonder...
Is it so difficult to take the original SGS II rom for ICS and adjust it for our beloved SGS???
I'd like to have Samsung experience with an ICS or JB ROM.
Ifind Touchwiz very user friendly and efficient for all the basic tasts, and I don't find something equivalent in ICS "nude" ROMS.
It exists some ICS ROM with some parts of Touchwiz, but you don't have the full integration you can find in stock ROMS.
I think it's impossible to directly port SGS2 or SGS3 tou our old SGS.
Source code is not available for stock ROMS, so it's very difficult to modify it to adapt it to another device.
The only way is to mix binairies and edit some config files.

I can't understand why is it so easy to make a Nexus ICS rom work quite good on a SGS and is not the same for the SGS II rom.
Maybe a developer of ICS can provide more information.

Because Nexus S has the same hardware as Galaxy S and it's very easy to take a binary or a driver from one to install it on the other one.
Android source code is available, but not Touchwiz and Samsung add ons code. You can't modify or recompile Samsung stuff, so it's harder to port.
Is there Touchwiz 4/4.5 for Jelly Bean? I have tried different TW4 mods but none of them didnt work. So is there Tw4/Tw4.5

Hi I was looking for this as well. I dont think such application can be found. It is a part of a stock Samsung rom. Therefore it would be probably against laws to try to port it to other roms. Correct me if I am wrong.
If there was some TW launcher I def. would be among the first to get it
I really want to have touchwiz 4/4.5 launcher on jelly bean. Are there any one could please teach me how to mod or do something to bring TW 4/4.5 to higher samsung devices?
I'm currently using Cyanogenmod 11 on my Samsung Galaxy S Plus, and I want the full Samsung experience, like on the stock Gingerbread ROM.
I've looked everywhere for one, but there doesn't seem to be any such ROM that meets my requirements.
Ideally, I would like a ROM to have the stock Samsung features (TouchWiz, etc), but be on Android 4.0 or later (for the latest apps to work).
Have I missed such a ROM, or am I stuck with applying customisation packs that mostly don't work?

This'll work for the S Plus also?
They're pretty similar in hardware, so I see why not, unless something is CPU-specific there.

S and S+ are different in hardware (Cortex A9 vs Snapdragon)
