I've read in some threads that samsung is removing their JPM/JP6 firmware from KIES update... Is this true?
I live in Canada, so I technically dont have the update yet anyways, but have any of the europeans on this site noticed this?
Also! Supposing that samsung isnt removing their froyo firmware, is there any harm in me doing the regedit hack to get the froyo update NOW instead of waiting for it to be "officially" released in canada?
better wait mate!
i tried froyo ... phone was slow, bunch of google apps were not working and after the first reboot the phone stopped working

I had to do a factory reset after updating to Froyo to make the phone run at normal speed. Samsung screwed up the update, especially with the Market also vanishing.
(After the reset, it runs just fine though - almost no complaints!)
Looks that way, chap. I just tried the erg hack and still no f/w available to download...
this is good news then! seems like they want to address the issues
[Q] downgrade from froyo to eclair
Hi all new member. I have an unlocked galaxy s on o2 from the carphone warehouse in uk. I used the reg hack to upgrade to froyo and all is well exept my product code has now changed from xeu to xee. I have decided that i want to return to my original 2.1 firmware and wait for the official uk froyo release. Would i be able to use the original hack (with a few changes)that we used to get froyo to trick kies into giving me my old firmware back???
My old firmware was xxjm1 for all 3 files
If the answer to the above is yes then i am just wondering what to change for the hdswerver? i know that i will use xxjf3 but there is a part that says "swc" what would i change this to?? Hope somebody can help
Woo hoo! Back to JM1 I go then! I'll give them another chance to get it right otherwise it's an iPhone 4 for me for Christmas!

Root your phone
and download a root file explorer
go to /EFS and delete the files nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 simultaneously
that should fix it

They removed it this morning, It's not possible to update using kies to 2.2 at the moment. Only way is to use odin to flash it.
I also have it from bell canada and I decided to wait after hearing people loosing 850 band. I dont want to take a risk. I ve been waiting for 2 months and can wait couple more weeks.

Hi, I'm not so clever with linux and android and I've the same problem: I want to roll back to 2.1 JM2 italian version because not satisfied with froyo
What should I do after deleting the two files?
Thanks
I find it hard to belive that froyo runs slower than 2.1. If you do a facyory reset after upgrade it.s quite fast and responsive. much faster than 2.1. Vodoo is also gonna set up a new version of their lag fix to run on 2.2. just wait. I updated using kies and regedit.

I'm happy to hear that your experience is fine. Mine looks very different.. the SGS with froyo is slower than eclair also with OCLF. Free memory is less than 160MB instead the 200MB or more with eclair. Some apps are always running even when I kill manually or automatically..
And more I can't see important features that wasn't on eclair..
But that's my opinion..

Really? Wiped too right after flashing. And I can confirm that Froyo is laggier than Eclair (at least in some aspects). Here are some examples:
- laggy keyboard input (eg: on market, when writing a long post on the browser, etc)
- laggy app drawer. if I slide fast between apps pages it start lags. I have 6 pages of apps. Also pinch to zoom out in app drawer it's extremely laggy.
- laggy browser, consumes a lot of RAM and CPU. Try for eg pocketnow.com. Go and watch RAM/CPU usage in Task Manager. (tested with plugins off and on demand)
- even less free RAM available
And that's with voodoo lag fix applied.
And that's just not me. It's global. I bet you have those issues too, maybe you haven't used the phone too much.

Why I'm not surprised to hear it also from other people?!?
The question you're asking ought to be directed to Scandinavian as they're the only ones that can tell for sure. So here's mt crack at it.
Are there any Scandinavians out here who have a Galaxy s on the original elair 2.1 and can confirm that if they check for an update none is showing where KIES used to indicate a Froyo update was available?
If the answer is yes then the update got pulled, if no it means Samsung is proceeding as planned. There is also a small possibility they want to fix stuff before releasing it outside Scandinavia. I really don't think that's very likely in this case, it's inconsistent with leaking the regional firmware for Arabic and African countries.
I guess only time will tell. I'm going to wait for a one of the cyanogenmod as I have lost all faith in Samsung ever getting this firmware right. Actually jm2 with voodoo is not so bad.

I will explore more, it's wierd, the keyboard input seems to be one of the most succesfull improvements in the 2.2 on my galaxy s.

if it was bricked the phone would be completly non responsive upto and including no charging light. as your phone turns on it can be fixed. you may need to re flash it though.

Hello folks
I just received my new LG 2x. It came with the version 2.2.2
I'm looking for the peak time settings but was not able to find them.
I rooted the phone and replaced the LG email application with the one linked by djmcnz (Thanks by the way), but no peak time settings
Can someone help me find them or tell me which application I should install
Thanks
It doesn't have them.
Thanks for the reply
A friend of mine who owns a Samsung Galaxy has these settings. I think that HTC phones have also these settings.
So I was wondering where they are located. It is only a question of email client? So could I use HTC or Samsung application on my LG?
Hi All,
I am very new to galaxy tab.
I am running on official gingerbread, flashed following the guidelines on the site. Other than a checksum error it went smoothly and working just fine.
I have another problem though. When I hold it in portrait mode, trying to move up and down with my finger causes the screen to shake.
Somerimes more sonetines a little less but it is always there.
In landscaepe mode it almost does not exist, working smooth.
I tried doing a lot of search but could.not find anything on it.
unfortunately I did not pay attenrion if it was hapening on stock froyo, did not stay on that long enough.
Charging or not does not affect it.
Being suspicious about screen protector I rwmoved it but no change
Did anyone else experience anyrhing similar?
Thanks in advance for help.
Same problem here
Hi, I have the same problem here, I did woked on froyo for about a day or two, and the problem was not there, I upgraded to Overcome 2.0 and the problem is now there.
Similar to you, on landscape the problem is less evident, but still there.
In my case, on you-tube application, I don't have any shacking.
I hope someone finds a solution, problem seems to be software-based.
I just checked it, you are right, youtube does not present the same problem.
Lets hope for a solution from the experts.
Cheers
anyone?
this shaking is driving me nuts......the screen shakes so much when held down down that it pretty much renders google maps unuseable.
HELP PLEASE!!!
is it a screen sensitivity issue that we can tweak or something?
i've been googling for a month for answers now but no luck...
please please...
Similar topic in XDA
Hi guys, there is a similar topic here in XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14354988&posted=1#post14354988
I have the same problem in my Galaxy Tab, and I show in a page in fgfaria.com
I now suspect it may be a deffect in some specific feature in some library used by some apps and not used in other apps.
I installed Android SDK in my PC, and created an simple app following a tutorial, with a list of countries that can be scrolled up and down. In this very simple app, the problem doesn't happen, just like youtube.
I've found an app that could potentially solve the problem, but my GT is not rooted, and can't use it. It's called "ILITEK Touch Utility" and it's available for free in Android Market.
Let me know if it's useful for any of you.
Regards,
Fabio
My tab does exactly the same thing as per your weblink.
The app i have download but once i hit the calibrate button, I somehow get denied access.
Any way around it? This shaking is getting old......sigh
Software, not hardware
Hi all,
In addition to touch test apps and youtube app, there are some other apps that don't present the problem. One specific interesting case is the one of the HelloListView tutorial presented in Android Developers website.
I've followed the tutorial, and created this illustrative app that just creates a list and allows you to scroll up and down. This specific app doesn't present the problem we've been discussing. I've made it available for download as apk file in the end of that same testing page (fgfaria.com)
That application being so simple and not presenting the problem, and the other apps that also don't present it, makes me think that the problem may appear when some specific library gets included in an app. Possibly something related to hardware acceleration, for example (just guessing, no specific reasons to believe that).
If only we could isolate the cause of the problem, we could notify Google and/or Samsung and influence a new patch release.
This is as far as I have gone so far. Ideas, reactions?
Regards,
Fabio

Hi Chris, I believe the denied access is because the GT is not rooted. The app must need access to pretty low level adjustments, and only rooting the device would make that possible.
I have the same messages in my GT, but rooting is kind of my last option to solve this.
My current options are:
1) Wait for an official Gingerbread update
2) If that doesn't solve, I'll contact my factory warranty
3) If they deny this is a problem, or if they can't fix it, I'll try rooting and using this app
While the first option is not available, I'll continue my search for another fix.
Cheers,
Fabio

Another possible explanation for the problem not happening in the app from the tutorial is that libraries being used include some kind of filter not used in problematic apps...
mine shakes but not noticable,.. i didn't notice this on froyo
Hi,
Thank you all for responses. I have been searching too but did not find anything.
However I have a theory.
The screen shaking phenomenon does not happen (or unnoticably little) when you are on a dark screen. Web browser included.
Is this your observation too?
Cheers
mine do shake even if its dark, originally i found this "bug" couple of days ago, when im in bed late at night, i initially thought that the shaking was via my finger, and was surprised to see this post a while ago
Note: My tab is rooted because I'm currently running the Overcome 2.0 RC1 rom.
*major headache *
Fully agree! Mine shakes only in light background! Same problem, but in this case, it looks more like a hardware issue than software (intuitively, at least, hardware is more likely to be affected by screen luminosity than software). The solution though, could be a software filter of fast screen movements...
Anyone? There is a solution for Galaxy S (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844216&page=3#). There must be a solution for Galaxy Tab 7 too...
Hi everyone,
Is the same problem happening in the new 2.3.3 asia roms?
Do you have any experience?

I was referring to official asia roms.
They are available in samfirmware.com but I have not tried myself.

Anyone found a solution yet?
Hello all,
I am hoping someone can give me some advice as what to do next. First let me give you some details. I am using a Galaxy S on O2 UK and have just updated to Gingerbread via KIES. Versions are as follows
GT-I9000
Firmware 2.3.3
Baseband I9000BWJV2
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVH-CL184813 rootDELL101 #2
Build GINGERBREAD.XWJVH
Immediatley after updating everything was fine and then I noticed the battery drain that many people are suffering from with Android OS taking anything from 40-50% of battery use. And then all of a sudden I noticed that 3 of my shortcuts from bottom of the home screen have gone missing including messaging, dialer and contacts. The only icon left is Apps. When I go into Apps, all my apps are there and seem to be working except for the 3 icons that went missing from the homescreen. So basically my battery is lasting about 11 hours and now I cant access my messages, contacts or dialer which means my phone is useless.
I have been reading up about possibly trying a new custom ROM and would appreciate some advice on which ROM are compatible with the current versions of my phone. Also if anyone has come acroos this missing shortcut problem you may be able to help.
Thanks in advance,
Melchiah
All i can tell you is that custom roms are much better than the original ones, but it is a bit risky to flash. You must read very well before u do it.There is small chance to soft brick it but u can always fix it back yourself just read arround.

Hi there,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note GTN7000 Android Phone with Vodafone Connection in Mumbai.
I upgraded to 4.0.3 last Saturday after which the Phone and Contacts Icon at the Bottom disappeared.
I can't add it from App Menu too as it seems the application itself has been removed somehow.
I don't see them in the list of Application installed in ALL Tab.
Please help me restore it.
Any help is appreciated.

I was able to get these back after going to a Samsung Service Center and updating/installing the firmware afresh.
I lost all Data. Had taken a backup of important files before going for it.
Do take a Backup of all your Contacts, and Files.
You can use kies which is available for Windows.
I used various Contacts and Dialer App till the time it was resolved.
DW Contacts, Dialer One, exDialer
