Maybe my fellow captivate users can help me out (Vibrant User) - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have you guys patched the fix permissions script on these froyo roms? If so, how? I own a vibrant and am wondering where the issue lies. I've asked a few times in different threads as posts and topics and it seems to be of an unspoken topic or something because no one replies in the vibrant forums about it.

We always ran fix permissions for G1/MT3G. I've not actually read about it on captivate forums :S

[Q] Root/OC help

I have a few questions...
If i root using this method
forum . xda-developers . com / showthread.php?t=694572 (i had the regular link, but it told me since im new i cant post it)
is there a way that i can install a kernal to get it to 710 mhz? Kinda like the one in Buufed 2.1.2. I had it before and my battery life was great and the phone was really fast and responsive, but i wanted my visual voicemail.
Also, if im able to do that, would i be able to put Apps2SD on my phone even if i wont have a custom rom? Do i even need a custom rom?
Also, ive searched for relevant things, and all that came up was threads where people would reply "DO A SEARCH BEFORE POSTING! RARARA!" and not answer the question in any way shape or form, so please, skip that and help me.
I'm noobie enough as it is.
and also forced roaming...i tried out Cyanogens 2.2 ROM and it had forced roaming on it and that helped a LOT because my phone constantly switches between sprint and verizon in my house which would make it lag and drain battery faster, so my other question is is there some way to get forced roaming on my phone without a custom rom too?
sp basically im looking for if its possible to have Apps2SD, an OC 710 mhz kernal and forced roaming without puting any custom roms on?
Actually, all your questions are answered elsewhere if you would have just done a little bit of reading through the threads, or even just read the titles of some of the threads. Good job on trying the Search feature, just work a little harder at reading through the results next time. Also read the titles of threads. Being a newbie isn't an excuse to be lazy.
Here are your answers that I will kindly link for you below:
No, you can't have A2SD on regular 2.1 stock. The A2SD support code is something that has to be built into the boot image of a ROM. So yes, you will need to use a custom ROM that has A2SD support. That answer is in post #3 of the A2SD thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715116
You can't overclock the stock 2.1 because the OC kernels are packaged with specific ramdisks for each custom ROM. So in order to overclock, you will have to use both a custom ROM and the one of specific OC kernels for that particular ROM. That answer was found in post #1 of the OC kernel thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705074
There is a method for Force Roam, but I don't think anyone has got it working on the Sprint CDMA Hero yet. Cyanogenmod does have a patch for it. Here are just a couple short threads detailing this, both of which I was easily able to find by searching "force roam":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739208
http://forum.xda-developers.com//showpost.php?p=5405666&postcount=18
http://forum.xda-developers.com//showthread.php?t=572041
In short -- no, you can't do anything you're asking about without a custom ROM.
Also, in addition to reading more before posting next time, please also note where the appropriate place to post is. Since this was a question, it should have gone in the "Q&A" forum. Thanks, welcome, and good luck.
Also, please considering reading the rules and posting in the correct sub-forum.

ugh, step 1) read stickies... this does not belong in development
step 2) read through the options you have (basically SRE, UTB, and SuperStock right now) and if you aren't going to take the time to read them, hold off on flashing until you know what you're doing

go for it. things are very solidly organized (there's even a specific section just for asking questions).
there are explanations of what this forum section is for (the development/hacking of android on the captivate and how to use the developments). If you want some advice on what's the general preference, look at general (where I believe this conversation is already happening with a topic titled "UTB vs SRE") or Q&A.
You should also read about the potential ROMs you're looking at (SRE, UTB, SuperStock) in their respective threads. There is no "This is the best ROM that everyone likes so use that" thread because the options are still relatively young and you have to decide which tool you want to use the most.
If you find reading the threads for what the ROM or tools do too difficult, then maybe modifying this device isn't for you right now. There's nothing wrong with asking questions (specifically in the threads of the various tools/ROMs) just place them in the right place. Your question has nothing to do with development, and that's all I'm asking
ok thank you on a side note is there any rom that has everything 100% working

Seriously the potential of anyone really answering your question on here is a joke. Don't get me wrong, but I've seen ppl post things 5 or six times (in Rom or kernel) threads and if they are lucky enough to get a answer they are told to search the forums and when they do they just run into other threads where people are told to guess what...search the forums. So its just a endless cycle until you just forget about it and move onto another ROM or kernel.

To the best of my knowledge, every tool out there has everything working 100%... AOSP isn't out yet (which already has said they're having trouble with bluetooth, camera, GPS, and data) and SuperStock has supposedly spotty wifi and data.
Your two major options right now are SRE and UTB, both of which are only modifications to the stock ROMs so everything is working. SRE provides more options and more customizations and UTB hasn't been updated in a while, though they're both valid options.
Personally, I'd suggest using SRE and going to that thread and reading up on your options

Yes and no.
The ROM on your phone is the official release - all others are dev builds. This includes the captivate ROMs and i9000 ROMs. Newer captivate builds fix a few things, but you lose tethering and maybe a few other things.
The i9000 builds all require the Captivate kernel, so some things don't work right.
Again, you need to read the threads on the different ROMs and decide for yourself.
I think i'm running jh3? I can't remember which. haha.
I lied, I guess i'm running jf6 still... Don't remember that happening.
Personally, I'm running jf6 (stock), rooted, metamorph minimalistic theme (tweaked a little to my personal liking), and adw (to customize even more). I've tried jm2, jm5 (both with samset on top), and jh2. Never tried froyo because I need my phone to work and it has too many known bugs.To me, a rooted, customized, stock ROM is the best because it give you less problems and sideloading through adb is easy. Also tried the lag fixes but other than the Quadrant scores, I couldn't tell too much of a real world difference so I took them off. I never had any GPS issues with jf6 so maybe I'm lucky.

[Q] CM7 Bootloaders

I loaded a GB rom on my phone, and had to to flash GB bootloaders. CM7 uses eclair/froyo bootloaders, I am wondering if anyone has these bootloaders?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. [:
Q&A is a good place for questions like this. Searching will help you too. I've seen this topic before.
Did you spend even a minute looking around before posting? There are a dozen threads on bootloaders that could be found by doing a search and there's a CM7-specific sticky in Q&A where this should have been posted instead of starting a new thread.

You will need to flash back to stock using the Odin 1 click by DG in the development forums to get your bootloaders back to the stock ones.

People on 'ludes should not flash!
I did search for it, but wanted to be 100% sure before
i did anything. Sorry if posting a new thread was pointless,
I honestly just wanted a solid answer. No disrepect to anyone and thank you for you responses everyones.

[Port?]CM9 on Galaxy W

So i know the closest phone to ours in terms of hardware, is the Galaxy W right?
And guess what? They got the CM9 port this week.
So i guess this could help some developers to port it to our phone?
*_*
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576874
Here's the link btw
i thought it has been mention a lot of times although same specs but it is not possible to port as the mobo is all different
Yeah, I'm not thinking on getting their rom and trying to install it on my phone.
I meant get their base and develop something similar on our phone, using the same cpu/gpu drivers, wich i think are the main problem we have right now.
I'm no developer, but i don't think that this is impossible.
Their original developer is porting it as we speak, so maybe we should continue the talk here ?
If dev is porting... new thread will open
Hereby thread closed!
Go arco. He brought CM7 to my old phone (htc wildfire) so it is just a matter of time until we have CM9 for our S+.

That's why i think it's a important release

Maybe i'm a noob. I'm not a develorper, but does it mean i shouldn't make part of this forum?
First of all, i've registered here not to create stuff, but to show my apreciation for the work of people who do create it.
I've donated to estimulate the development of other projects on other devices, but aparently people of the 9001 section don't actually care about this kind of user ( aka noobs).
And when i try to point that other developers managed to get CM9 on a phone that is very similar to ours you react that way? Seriously, you didn't became more of a man when you answered like a dickhead.
Anyway, i'm sorry for trying to help out the development of our device by bringing unharmful information.
C ya.
Your thread is in the wrong section. It should go into 9000 General section and the thread title should start with [9001]. That's the rules that were set up by XDA officials for us and our device. Not very handy but that's it.
This topic is not new and was discussed several times already in various other threads here. Ironically in the Cyanogenmod porting thread arco68, who ported CM9 for Galaxy W, has been around for two days and started to analyse out device. If you searched and read a bit, you would have found that. So this thread is a duplicate.
And thanks for the dickhead.

Better than just calling me a noob right?
Why can't people answer this way to all users, no matter if they are developers or not?
Anyway just close/delete/purge/burn the damn thread

I can understand this reaction.
It's in my opinion the result of lacking our own general forum.
it's a shame that if i want to read topics in the general forum i have to use the search button to see i9001 topics.
When the Samsung Galaxy S Advance arrives does it get a subforum in the i9000 forum? if this is so this wil make things again more confusing.
And if there is a administrator then close this thread
But on topic there wil be a thread from arco68 ? about porting cm9.

Stripes on kernel 3.1 or ICS rom?

Hello All,
I tried to ask the question in some specific rom topics but i dont get answers so maybe i can try it this way.
I flashed SafariICSSamsung today again to check if the problem with the stripes is solved for my tab. It isnt and tried everything to solve it but im out of clues.
I've got an Galaxy tab GT-P7310
Tried the following roms today?
-CM9 unofficial
-SafariICSSamsung
- [ROM][ICS][OFFICIAL][14/09][P7310] StockRom Odexed|Rooted|Zipaligned|CWM Flashable!
Tried to flash it with:
-CWM 5.5.0.4
-CWM 6.0.0.8 (recommend)
The problem is when the display goes to sleep and i turn it on again the following error occurs.
http://www.youtube.com/embed/icHd14FX5ps
Everything is working in the background as you can "see". but its freaking useless this way. The only solution for me is to use HC roms and i really really hate them ICS roms on HC kernel also works but then the perfomance are a bit of a pitty.
Let me hear what you guys think and if there is a solution maybe!?!
Please ask a mod to move this back to General forum.
Then try the solution in this thread (esp post #2)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867124
(did you really use the forum search before posting? I've given this same response at least 3-4 times for different people posting the same question)
Im sorry. Yes i tried the search function but my english is not that good to search for "garbled screen". Im sorry. I will try the solutions mentioned over there.
This topic can be closed and sorry for the wrong post section!
EDIT: Anyway!! Thanks dude it worked like a charm! You made at least one person very happy today!!!
Thread moved to general and closed
