Currently, I am on Doc v6 XXJPX with voodoo lagfix disabled. Is it safe to flash the non wipe version of Doc's new XXJPY kitchen ROM to keep my apps and settings or will I run into problems mainly caused by the difference in base ROM?
I assume there shouldn't be any since both JPY and JPX are 2.2.1 Although I did run into problems before when I tried a no wipe install of Darky's XXJPU over JPA since that was 2.2 to 2.2.1
Can anyone clarify?

It usually only causes problems with some apps. I would make a Titanium backup to be safe, then try the non wipe. If there are no force closes on first boot then you are good. If you do get some then flash a wipe version. I usually flash wipe everytime personally but that is just me
His new base is super fast by the way

So i got the reorient kernel so now i am wondering which of the i9000 rom's to flash? most of the Rom's over there have their own kernels built in so besides Tayutama's i can't find anything to try out
Voodoo/z4 compatibility preferred.
You can use pretty much any one of the roms that are in the i9000 forum. Just flash the rom and then the kernal right away afterwards through recovery mode. Right now im using Darkys raw steel edition v3.0 with reorient.

Doc doesn't use then because out is fast way it is. I don't like to hassle with voodoo whet you have to disable brite you flash another rom.
Now moved to jpa. Newly out yesterday so not tested yet.

Hello everybody!
I keep getting a voice message saying "converting data partition to optimize extension 4" and then the cell restarts.

I have 70 Apps installed...

Voodoo isn't compatible with JPK. It's mentioned in the documents.
Flash JPO over it, and apply voodoo to that. Or try flashing Chainfire's CF-root kernal over JPK if you want to try salvaging your apps. DISCLAIMER: Not sure what'll happen if you flash CF-root kernal over it. I think you'll loose your apps anyway?
z4mod is compatible with JPK, if you really want to use JPK (not sure why you would?).

Go to the newer JPO or JPA, try hardcores kernel over it. THE BEST experience.
I have a i9000m and I flashed Darky's Rom ontop of SpeedMod and everything is running great. On the about phone screen, it says baseband version "i9000xxjpy" instead of J2l when I was running only Speedmod. Has J2L been replaced by xxjpy?
The only reason I ask is that J2L was supposed to have fixed the internal sd corruption according to Bell.
Darkyy's latest ROM is using the latest Froyo 2.2.1 firmware for Europe.
Flashing that ROM will convert you to JPY.

Ahh that makes sense, thanks for the info.
Hi
I have darkys extreme 9.2 rom running fine, i have just seen the docs rom kitchen and put togeather a rom i would like to try, my question is can i move from darkys 9.2 to a docs cooked quite easily
do i need to beaware of anything when moving from darkys to docs
gazmon
I did that last week and I haven't had any problems so far...
Though... you should probably install the wipe version (and be sure to do a wipe from clockwork)
Disable any lagfixes.
How do I disable a lagfix in darkys 9.2 I.thought it was automatically enabled??
Actually, lagfix in NOT activated by default, on any of Darky's Rom versions. IF you have installed any, manually, then it's quite a good idea to remove it (restore your fs to rfs, in other words) before going for another ROM. If you are on either Speedmod's or Voodoo kernel, then you can disable it through recovery.
FYI: I did the exact same and have much better battery life now
(doc wipe and latest speedmod)

Best if you wipe all traces of previous rom .

Hi
my phone is a galaxy GT-I9000
PDA : I9000BGJP3
PHONE : I9000BGJP2
CSC : I9000XECJP2
Build Info : 2010, 11
it has froyo 2.2 , Movistar Spain stock rom
it is not rooted
and it has recovery and download modes
Now I want to flash a custom rom (cyanogen or darky's)
i have read a lot of guides and tutorials but i'm still a little confused
So I want to know if I need to flash the firmware first, then only after that, I install the custom ROM ?
Or do I directly install a custom rom without flashing a new firmware ?
thanks for your help
Hi ziko360, since it sounds like you are new to custom roms I recommend you first try darkys rom.
If you are wanting to flash darkys v10.1 then yes you first need to flash the jvh firmware then flash darkys v10.1 after.
If you dont want to flash a custom rom you could always flash jvo from samfirmware.com then just flash a custom kernal instead.
Edit: Iv just noticed you asked in another post that you wanted to install the voodoo lag fix. If you have done this, then remember you must first diable the lag fix!

You should create a file or folder named disable-lagfix and place it in the voodoo directory on your sd card and reboot the phone. Or if that's too complicated you can Download from the android market the application Voodoo Toggle reboot Button - just hit the button so that voodoo is off and reboot. Also, in the app Voodoo Control there is option to disable voodoo lag fix
Ok thanks alot. i'll check this soon..;-)

ok thanks a lot
It is actually Darkys 10.1 that I have chosen
I've read the tutorial on Darky's website and it explains everything (flashing jvh firmware, disabling lagfixes... )
thanks for your help
