Have a new Captivate about 1 week old. Stock setup
Want to load the Samservmode app but when I research it I see the warning of "check if you are on rom s with the service mode installed" Can someone tell me how to find that info on the phone. Have checked the *#*#4536#*#*
Also, on some articles am seeing references to build level of the phone or ROM ...... can that information be found in the same location as the rom as above?

Hi guys
I bought my phone from a second hand shop.... and it was already on the hacked froyo 2.2.
it is on version I9000XXJPK.
When i put my phone into Kies it wont recognise it to update. I have problems with Kies all round like random crashing etc but is there anyway to point me in the right direction?
I have been on that samfirmware thing website and the official 2.2 isnt listed. I am based in the UK so i thought i was applicable for the update...
Any help appreciated!
Thanks
Steven
Hi guys, any luck please? im proper stuck! been searching for an answer all day.

Hi, maybe giving more information about your device will help.
Enter Service Mode
At the dial screen, enter: *#*#197328640#*#*
Now, navigate:
[2] VERSION INFO. > [1] SW VERSION > [5] READ ALL SW VERSION
List all of the output this gives you.
Cheers
Your product code has probably changed...
Search for the kies reg hack on how to update to froyo or use odin if you know how to do so..
Plenty threads floating around xda..

I got this unit, relatively cheaply, in china. I realised it was rooted on two items: superuser was installed, and when keeping the start button depressed it came up with some chinese menu for shutdown, even though the os language was set to english.
I could set up my google account without problems, but i couldnt access the market. It was as if they used a short cut with an android market icon. Having said that, when i went to the market website online, i couldnt sign in on that. My non rooted htc phone has no problems accessing the market.
Interestingly, when i connected to wifi it popped up a softwarenudate notification, which it couldnt download due to absence of a SIM card (i didnt put my sim card in it yet)
Any thoughts/comments/suggestions?
What is your usage location?
what version of ROm you have? (setting - about phone)
you have to see there
baseband version ?
Build version?
Kernel version ?
Right, i managed to get the market working by performing a factory reset.
Baseband version=N7000XXKJ6
Kernel=2.6.35.7-N7000ZSKK1-CL706440
Build=GINGERBREAD.ZSKK1
Right now i found that the problems i ave with this build, is that any firmware updates cannot be installed (i get a registration error message, and yes, i did register the unit with samsung).
It also contains several chinese apps that i cannot uninstall and are a nuisance.
One is called 360-something (its in chinese which i dont read), another one is called Gexin. Both apps actually report new messages.
There is also a QQ security app running (i know QQ is very popular in asia).
Ideally id like to have a UK or US original firmware, so i can update to ICS when it comes out in the next month or so. But a modified US orUK rom would probably do as well if necessary.
You can get all available ROM here

Hi guys.
I know my question might be asked by many people
before me but I write here after I spent the past 2 days
searching many posts in this site as well as other sites
until I got confused. My question is that
I have SGS GT-I9000 and I want to know what rooting package would be suitable for it. my current firmware details are as follows:
Firmware version 2.3.4
baseband version I9000JXJV6
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9000JPJVC-CL577553
ROOT @DELL136#2
BUILD number GINGERBREAD.JPJVC
I found some posts that contain rooting packages and the
details of firmware versions that are compatible with it,
while some other posts only mention GT-I9000 without specifying
the firmware version for which the specified rooting can be used.
also I read that the rooting can be with or without bootloaders
and I like to know which one should I use if I found it?
finally, I got my current firmware from this site and installed
it using Odin, and now I have trouble in making calls, the trouble is that
when I drag the contact name to the right to make call, it takes
about 15 seconds till it start dialing and showing the next screen which
contains the options of end call and speaker and other options.
I would appreciate any help please.
Unlock Root
Download and install the software from here.
Run the software.
Connect ur phone in usb debugging mode to ur pc/laptop.
Click Root.
Enjoy

hello there....
1) first check whether u have a matching BB/RIL.
2) Its better u go back to stock. to do this i would suggest u flash a stock rom for your country from this thread (using smart flash ofcourse).
If u want to root it then proceed to next step. if not then look for signal....no signal? then proceed to step 6
3) next root it using superoneclick (here u go!).
4) Then download BB(baseband) from here and flash it.
5) Then download get ril app from play store and check for BB/ril match. if not matching then download the ril which are ticked. (if u are using GB go for v20 and for froyo v10 series). restart.
Still no network???
6) check with another sim of different operator.
still no network???
7) Check whether your imei number matches with the one on back of your phone. (sometimes wrongly flashed roms would have changed imei...happened to me!!)
if its different then follow instructions from here.

Hi everyone,
Noob here. I was trying to sideload the 6.0 OS and was having issues. The after many attempts, the install worked...but then failed the installation. After this, on the bootloader screen, I was getting the error "dm-verity verification failed" which some posts recommended re-flashing a stock image onto it to fix this. So I looked for a stock image of 5.1.1 and found a guide on how to do this restore. All of this part went fine.
Except now, everything is working but no carrier data. I have phone calls, wifi, etc. I will try to give as much information as possible, please let me know if you're missing some information I can provide.
Model: SM-G920A
Baseband: G920AUCU3BOJ9
Kernel: 3.10.61-5527015 [email protected] #1 Sat Sep 19 11:08:32 KST 2015
Build #: LMY47X.G920AUCU3BOI2
SIM card status
Signal strength: -78dBm 62 asu
Network type: LTE
Service stats: In service
Roaming: Not roaming
Network state: Disconnected
The phone is offering a 103.30MB update right now. When I try to install it, it reboots the phone, shows the installation progress bar and fails (around 25% I think).
Can you please help me get back to a working state?

Yowza. You're on BOI2 (old) build with newest official base band (BOJ9).
I think your best bet is to use ODIN to flash BOJ7, then follow the instructions in the update to MM thread - side load to BOJ9 then PD5 then PD6.
Everything you need is linked in the OP of this thread.

Thanks for pointing me to that post. I started the flash in Odin with OJ7, putting all files in their proper field. The flash failed shortly after starting. Now the device says "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC Software."
I installed and started the Smart Swtich software. The device is not listed in the Emergency Software Recovery list. I reinstalled the drivers a couple times, I can see the device in Device Manager and everything looks fine. How do I get out of this situation...
Every time I reboot the phone, it shows that same screen about the Emergency recovery.
Thanks

I could be wrong, but I don't think smart switch works for recovery on ATT models. Maybe take it to a best buy with Samsung store and see if they can get you up to full BOJ9?
Mucking around with Samsung software isn't my strongest suit - the s6 has been pretty locked down so I haven't played around much, and my last Sammy before it was an S2. Maybe someone more familiar can jump in.

I got it to work. I used Odin to flash each file, one at a time (since one of them was causing an issue). 3 of them worked. I then sideloaded OJ9, then PD5. I have PD6 left, but I'm sure it'll go well.
Thanks for your help mate
