CWM wont install - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It says its installed but when i go to recovery to reinstall packages it aborts it says there is an error on E or something...help?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

After rooting go to Apps> My Files to your phone's internal SD card and find a folder named "Clockworkmod" and open it. Inside (if you've properly flashed Clockwork Recovery) you will see a zip file named "recovery-update.zip". Copy that .zip to the root of the internal SD and rename it "update" ("update.zip").
Now just reboot into the stock recovery and click "reinstall packages".

Thanks a lot.

[Q] CWM cant install Cyanogen 7 - Am I missing something?

I have searched for a few hours and can't find anyone with a similar issue.
I have my 2.2 captivate rooted and unlocked with CWM and TB installed. Got the Cyanogen 7 zip install on my sd card.
Loaded CWM Recovery and backed up my rom.
Restarted and went to CWM to Install Rom from SDCard
It doesn't point to the SD card, however. It starts in the Internal storage, so i choose external_sd/ then the update file
it boots into recovery, formats the phone, but gives me the "No such File or Directory" message with the path set to SDCARD External SD Update.zip(Cyanogen install)
So it thinks my internal storage is my SD card?
So its pointing to the wrong directory, but i cant find an option anywhere to make it go through the right directory.... help?
sorry, mods please delete.
It is installable througn CWM,

Harder way:
Make sure you're running a Eclair/Froyo Firmware (2.1 or 2.2) and Eclair/Froyo Bootloaders!
Root your device and install ClockworkMod Recovery.
Do a Nandroid backup!
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
Optionally install the Google Addon (through ROMManager is easiest)

Try taking out your external sd before you flash, and if you have anymore problems post in the CM7 Q&A thread

[Q] Help, all wiped but can't install zip

looks like i am in a big problem here.
i tried to use Clockwork to wipe and install a new rom, but after wipe dalvik, cache and data, i cant update the rom.
i tried to use too diferent zips i have in my sd, but i get a error.
trying "applying a zip from sd card" and "choose zip from sd", i can't enter in the "_external sd" folder, it just return to the previous folder (internal sd) and there is only a "update.zip" there wich i don't know what it is. I had the hope it was a update i did with rom manager but this zip doesn't work too.
if i try the roms that are in the clockwokrmod folder, i get "no files found" and i have to folders inside clockworkmod folder.
what i should try?
now when i click in any option stuk with a image of the exclamation and the Android the android dummy ((((
edit: oh, the menu is back, but i still don't know what to do.
Did you try flash another ROM for odin?

i restarded the ox2. I see sd, system and data was unmonted. But even with this mounted don'est work. I am not able to enter in the dir _external sd.
but in the clockwork folder in the internal sd i have 2 backups and they doesn't work too "no files found"
I restarted it now in normal mode and the system is there, just in default mode, asking me to configure, etc.
If i wiped data, cache and everything, where was the files that allowed this rom to "survive"? At least i can use the phone today. I am almost giving up of flash the rom
Please help, why clockwork did not recognize any zip? looks like it was not able to enter any directory
I think you need to select install zip from internal sd. That is the only way I found to install the .zips on my _ExternalSD folder.
BTW, I won't be able to restore the CWM backup because needs to be on an external SD.
I hope it helps.

Sounds like it's a case of switched mounting points, try install from internal sd.

the problem is that it was accessing any folder, even in internal sd. I don't if the app was able to recognize that there was not a valid file inside the folder or was really a error.
i am almost giving up. Thinking in change only baseband, as i believe it is safer than chaging a rom.
i don't understand how/where the device was able to boot with a "new" rom after the reboot. I thought after clear data, cache and factory reset was like formating Windows in pc. And the last command when i was in clockwork was a simple reboot, not recovery, etc.
Did you put the .zip on your external sd card? In that case, you should go to mounts and storage and select mount sdcard. If it is already mounted, unmount and mount it again. It helps in some cases. Works for me at least, I cannot guarantee that it will work for you.

LiquidSmooth 2.9 and clockworkmod folder

I am running CWM 6.0.3.2 and made a CWM backup of my Liquidsmooth ROM. When I am in recovery, I can see the backup file I made if I choose the restore option. I can also see the backup file if I choose "Install zip from SD card" and I navigate to the clockworkmod folder. The problem is, I cannot find the folder where it should be in my sdcard on any sort of file manager. I can use root explorer, root browser, etc. and I have granted all of them root access, yet I can't see the SDcard the way I can in recovery mode and I cannot find my backup folder. I do have the clockworkmod folder in my SDcard, but there is nothing in it except for the RECOVERY_VERRSION file. No "backup" folder. My SDcard in recovery contains the folders 0/ ; clockworkmod/ ; legacy/ ; and obb/ none of these are visible in any kind of file browser, including my PC. Any ideas?

When you made the backup, did you choose to backup to an external card? If you just choose backup, the default location is the internal memory.
I backed up to internal memory, and I feel like an idiot now that I found it in /mnt/shell/emulated , it doesn't backup to the SD Card that I see in the file manager....

Did you choose to backup to the external SD card in the CWM options? I save it to my external 16 GB card all the time.

[Q] Cannot find zip file in recovery mood

Hi!
I have downloaded the zip file from xda. When i went into recovery mood i cleared the cache and data when i tried to install the zip from sd card.... the zip was not found.
Now when i try to switch on mobile it goes into recovery mood.
Any solution to it plz help...!!!!
Awaiting for your response....
It does help stating which phone you have, either the normal 5570 or 5570i, as both phones vary a lot under the shell.
I assume you are using stock ROM and kernel, as you appear to be new to this.
When you downloaded the zip file, did you download it directly into your phone? If so, then the file stays in /sdcard/download. As the stock recovery does not display all the folders in /sdcard, the download folder cannot be seen or accessed. Hence, as a guideline, shift all flashable zips to the root of your sdcard (/sdcard) to allow your recovery to access and flash these zip files.
However, I am not too sure why your phone is unable to boot as you have (apparently) only wiped data and cache.

Cannot install any zip file from ext sdcard via cutom recovery

i have note 4 Tmobile i rooted it with cf auto root and recovery is twrp 2.8
my problem is i cannot install any zip (custom roms) file from external sdcard through custom recovery when i try it mobile restart and again come back to recovery mode ....... but i can install zip from internal memory without any problem
Once in TWRP go to install and click on the top middle of the screen that says internal storage and click on it and it will prompt you to use sdcard or USB click sdcard and that should help
