will the existing nexus one kernels/roms work with the att nexus one or is the difference in radio band a show stopper? Just ordered the att nexus one, and currently have a rooted Droid - not sure i could go back to an unrooted & unmod'ed phone
I'm assuming that by ATT you mean unlocked. Regardless, the Nexus One does not have the necessary hardware to use AT&T's 3G. Aside from this, they are compatible. It is the same phone.
No he means the verison thats comming out to be compatible with AT&T's 3G network
It doesn't seem as though Google released a different set of kernel sources for the AT&T Nexus One, so I would assume that all current ROMs are compatible with the new hardware revision.
I just ordered one, by the way.
will the existing nexus one kernals

Has anyone tried the latest cyanogen or baked goods on their ATT N1? I get mine tomorrow and want to make sure it is safe.

Backup your phone, and flash 5.0.4.1. If it works, great! If not? Restore your backup.
Only one way to find out! I get my ATT n1 tomorrow as well. It's going to make my current n1 sad.

Yes, it does now. It's a different model.
So the question remains - are the roms/procedures the same?
i got my att n1 today and the first thing i did was flashed cm 5.0.5 test 2 on it and all i can say its behaving just like the t-mobile one.
im loving the ability to use rogers 3g network since i hate using wifi.
I noticed that there are a lot of random threads regarding the Samsung Captivate for Rogers (SGH-i896) and would like to make a common one that answers a few questions and asks a few.
I made a Wiki Page for the Rogers Captivate Model. You can add your FAQ and ROMs and what not there:
Samsung Rogers Captivate - SGH I896
I hope this becomes the main post for the Rogers Captivate where all questions would be answered so we won't have to look around. I will also add links and guides to rooting your Rogers version and hope that I get input from you guys as to which ROM is working and which is not.
Cheers.
Sure you can...change the model in the update-script from SGH-i897 to SGH-i896, done =]
I figured buying AT&T version, I'll have less hassle with flashing ROMs (using captivate with Fido). Bought one off craigslist and I'm very satisfied with it
I was thinking about that too but then if I buy the Rogers version then selling it within Canada becomes a lot easier too if you wanna upgrade. I know it would be a hassle to find custom ROMs but once we get used to editing ATT ROMs we should be good

Haha yes it does make it less of a hassle. But seeing how we can just enter Rogers/Fido APNs and have a full working 3G, I think it'll be alright. Selling my European magic is a lot harder because of no 3G..

Well people usually avoid it because you can't use your warranty in Canada and I do need that! This was the only reason deterring me from buying the ATT version else I would have had it a couple of months back instead of waiting it out at Rogers. Put up your magic on eBay

Anyways back to the topic lol
I am having so much fun already with this phone from AT&T (I am w/ Fido).
I think the user base from US is much greater than Canada, especially we are pretty slow in getting anything (don't get me started ), so buying AT&T one gives us first hand on every dev goodies in XDA
The biggest question:
Does the Rogers Captivate have HSUPA enabled?
would love to try the stock rogers rom.. i'd like to see a more "samsung" rom rather than the amazingly bad ATT bloatware..
the stock roms have much longer batt life for me than the other roms here.

Rogers have HSUPA on the network, weather or not they are disabled like AT&T, only those who has the actual phone can tell.

Rogers has the capability but we don't if it is unlocked on the phone. Will know tomorrow once we have it..Here are the specs from the ROGERS website. (rogers (dot) com/captivate)
Connectivity:
HSPA Bands: UMTS 850/1900/2100 MHz
Network Speed (HSPA): Up to 7.2 Mbps*
Yall, know what this means.
UN RESTRICTED CAPTIVATE KERNAL FOR HSUPA MOBILE AP AND ALL. NO MORE FLASHING TO I9000
correct band froyo hsupa modems for all. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
AT&T branded with Rogers ROM
I currently have the AT&T Captivate but with the SGH-I896 Rogers official ROM on it and have been using this one for a month now. I love the device.
HSPA+ works 100%(check pics and you will see the H symbol instead of 3G)!! I love it but it does chew up alot more data. Doesn't matter for me as I have 6GB but for others that might be an issue. Barely any Rogers Bloatware at all.
SGH-I896 Pics
Pics of my AT&T branded SGH-I896 Rogers Samsung Captivate.
Dump the modem.bin we need it.
Hey Guys,
I just updated the main post with a link to the Wiki Page for this version of the device. Please try and add as much info as you can so that people won't have to look around.
Cheers

Mind sharing the ROM so the developers can work it?
Hello! I upgraded from the Hero to the Nexus S but am bogged down by the terrible reception offered by the Nexus. So I am returning the Nexus to Sprint because I am still within the 30 days and will go back to my Hero until the Evo 3D comes out.
I am going to return the nexus to the sprint store and NOT take my rooted hero to sprint. I will then attempt to call sprint to reactivate my hero over the phone. My hero is currently running gingerbread on CM7. My question is, will this method work to reactivate my hero? Or do I need to nandroid back to a sense rom to reactivate? Or anything else?
Does anyone have experience with the 30 day return policy at sprint? Can I just reactivate my hero now and return the inactivated nexus? I talked to sprint rep on the phone and they didn't really know the answer, just said to bring in both phones, but obviously I don't want to bring in my rooted hero!
Thanks for any help!
If your ROOTED Hero is out of warranty I don't see a problem, unless of course you are still carrying insurance on it. Either way though, I don't see an issue. I returned a broken ROOTED Hero without wiping or anything else and never a word or problem. Of course if you are paranoid, you could just make sure the Nexus is wiped. Activating the Hero shouldn't be reliant upon the OS, it's system side as far as I understand it.
Regards
Yes you should nand restore a sense rom to have less of a hassle when you call sprint to reactivate it. And yea you should be able to return your nexus to the sprint store with no problems as long as your still within your 30 days due to customer unsatifaction. Hope this helps good luck.
#Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
I would think you could simply switch your esn by yourself on Sprint's website, and then simply return the Nexus S.
The website wouldn't know if you are rooted or not. Then just return the nexus S to the store, with your reactivated hero safely in your pocket. They shouldn't even touch your hero phone if you switch the esn yourself.
I'm shocked to see such a difference in reception for this phone. You sure it isn't just the area you are in? The Nexus S looks badass.
Don't forget to call Sprint later to have them remove the $10 premium data they will now charge you because you switched ESNs. Cause all smartphones now require the premium data regardless.
Tell them you were having your phone serviced/repaired and they will remove the $10 data.
Flashing a sense rom and calling sprint is all you need to do. Mrs. User switched to a rooted hero from a pixi, and that's all I did to switch over.

Hi. I Have a T-mobile 4g Dell Streak 7. I got it and within a day i had installed Dj_steve's StreakDroid. I liked it at first but when i started playing games they would force close. All my games force closed at one point or another. Not only games but other things too. I decided to try Dj_Steve's ICS which is much worse but I know its a work in progress and I appreciate his work.
Now im trying to go back to Stock froyo or whatever is the latest ROM from Dell. I need my games. How do i go back. I saw a thread on here but it was only for the WiFi version.

I do not own a T-Mobile 4g unit but the Roms found at the link thread are official Dell Roms.
I am not 100% sure but isn't the 4G US Rom the one you are looking for?
Did Dell sell an unbranded 4G DS7s in the US?
Unless you are attached to the T-Mobile bloatware, I think it might be safe if you used the 4G US HC Rom... but as usual... proceed at your own risk...

They started selling unbranded 4g's sometime last summer up till they stopped selling them.
They sold them though their website, I dont recall if it was even available in any physical store.
That's the main reason US-4g roms exist seperate of the tmo 4g ones
FC's are more often incompatibility between the OS and the app, rather than the ROM causing it.
I upgraded from stock 2.2.2 last Friday and have 506 on here now. Whole new device. A real tech bargain at $179 USD. Happy as can be.

If you can locate a 514 rom... I would highly recommend it. 506 gave me quite a bit of trouble... few FCs and clunky UI... 514 is WAY better... my 2 cents...
Anyone else have the Rogers LG Optimus 3D? It's the p925g. However I'm having problems with mine. Every since the v20c update my data and cell connection will freeze and cause rapid battery drain. After talking with @RogersHelps on Twitter they tell me to have it replaced/repaired. They also tell me it will cost $35 to do this. My fear is that any replacement they send will have the same issues. Does anyone else have these problems with the Rogers firmware?

I would look into flashing the v20p att KDZ and see if that helps, just a thought. im sure someone else will chime in soon.

Check the Optimus 3D forums. If you can't find support or what you're looking for in the branded model forums, always, always, ALWAYS look in the reference model's forums as the phone is basically the same across all models (P920 International O3D, P925 US-AT&T "Thrill", P925G Canadian-Rogers, SU760 Korean O3D), just minor adjustments by region (with these models the radios in particular).
I flashed my P925 with P920 firmware, unlocked it, and put it on T-Mobile and get FAR better service (deadzones roughly the same, better service at home, faster data everywhere), no GC, and NO BS from my carrier about doing it. When you get a sweet phone, make sure you get sweet service with it too.
