[Q] Bought with custom firmware - How do I get flash support? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

(I was referred to ask here from AndroidForums, it's cross-posted in their Android Forums > Android Phones > Motorola Droid > Droid - Support and Troubleshooting forum)
Hello!
I would like my cell phone to support flash, but I don't manage to upgrade to Android 2.2.
I bought a Motorola DROID with Itfunz2.1_Eclipse_Terminator_II_Final firmware (I think that firmware adds Chinese support, but I prefer English anyway). According to my phone's update button and also the Motorola Software and Diagnostics web page, no updates are available for my phone.
Is that because of the custom firmware? Is China's update server not working correctly?
Now I'm thinking about how best to deal with this issue. Is there any way for me to download and install the official Android 2.2 firmware? Or is it better to wait until Itfunz2.2 comes out? Is there any other way to add Flash support?
Thanks in advance!
Johannes

I've not facebook: why a petition should be in vain at all?
This is the text of the petition:
To: Motorola Europe
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Update for Motorola Milestone (Europe).
Motorola Milestone is still a top-class smartphone and there are no technical reason to not port Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) to this device since the update to Android 2.3 is yet announced on less-powerful devices.
We would like Motorola to update Milestone smartphone to Android 2.3 as we feel that the device is fully capable to support the new OS and is still to early stop supporting this device only after a year from it's commercialization. Especially for a top-class device.

i personally appreciate your efforts however, i think they are wasted, im pretty sure 2.2 is the last official update we will see simply because it is motorola we are dealing with, not HTC or even smasung

I think that it would be better like this:
"Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Update for Motorola Milestone (Europe).
Motorola Milestone is yet a powerful smartphone and there are no technical reasons to not port Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) to this device since the update to Android 2.3 is also announced for less-powerful devices.
We would like Motorola to update the Milestone to Android 2.3 as we feel that the device is fully capable to support the new OS and it is still too early to stop the support for it as it has been out for just a year, considering also that the Milestone is a top-class device."
Anyway good luck
Why don't simply asking for an unlocked bootloader that allow a full ROM cooking like for droid and all the other HTC devices?
I think that it will be easier to get this instead of an official porting from Motorola (absolutely not convenient for them)!
And the community later can develop for porting 2.3 on milestone too.
Much easier.... Doesn't it??
P.S I already had some experience in the past with petition and manufacturer (Eten/Glofiish/Acer) ... And this is my point of view...
Worry for official release of Froyo first...then think about Gingerbread.
Change the phone is the fastest option...just saying.
Whait for it. ...
Ahahahaha, if u think how long they took them to relese 2.2, a. ... whait, it's not relesed yet, then if u think a bit, the deam phone will break before you got 2.3
Just saying. .. =))

As above, ask for the bootloader to be unlocked instead.
If the device is classed as End Of Life, i.e no more updates happening, then it's more likely they'll unlock it....
Dont get your hopes up though, we still dont have 2.2.....

Android™ 2.2 (Froyo) software upgrade for Milestone rolling out?

http://www.facebook.com/motorolaeurope/posts/155078701220505
"Hello all. The Android™ 2.2 (Froyo) software upgrade for Milestone is now being rolled out in selected countries, please visit http://moto.ly/milestonefroyo for instructions on how to upgrade your device."
nothing special about 2.2 on this link from france...
look like 2.2 is rolling out country by country
Just installed the 2.2.1 update.
Build: SHOLS_U2_05.26.0
Kernel-version: 2.6.32.9gafbfc43
what ....
what stock version ? and sbf file we should be having to apply this update for uk milestone. thanks in advance.
Apparently this official build has the same kernel as the leaked APAC build from 2 months ago.. So also still buggy unfortunately.. Quite the anti-climax..
Any Canadians try to install the UK version? I don't want to wait around for Telus if I can just install the same version from the UK Motorola site...

Over six months to 'test' this update and still miss massive bugs, only Motorola could manage that...
"Motorola is committed to continually meet and exceed our consumers expectations. Due to the extremely high number of requests for the Android 2.2. (FROYO) software upgrade, we are making the upgrade package available to consumers who wish to voluntarily upgrade their own devices via MSU.
Exhaustive testing process has concluded that users may experience some adverse effects associated with the upgrade which could include slower operation of some phone functions and applications. Performance may be improved by limiting open applications."
First line says it all, committed to continually failing at everything they touch. This just confirms how I'll never touch another product of theirs!

[Q] Android update (from 1.6) -help to a noob))

Hello!I buyed HTC Dream G1 on ebay with installed Android 1.6 (DONUT) on it. I heard that now there are android versions 2.x and i need to have so versions to install most of apps. Please, write my some instructions what should i do to update my device. (1...,2...)I have seen a lots of modifications of roms in your forum but i don't understand nothing about this.
Also I should add : I live in eastern europe (bulgaria) /because i heard that there re some US roms or.../
p.s. i'm so nooby because i migrate from windows mobile phone 6.0 ))
There are many, many posts here on getting 'root' on your phone to allow updates to custom ROMs, though many are geared toward US or UK phones, so it would help to know what carrier your phone is from originally.
Another new user just asked a very similar question, and there are a few links you can check from that thread.
From what I've seen, if you don't have a US or UK phone, you'll probably want to search these forums for "G1 one click root", "exploid" or "goldcard".
And congratulations on your upgrade away from Windows Mobile.

Help me with software updates

The only update I did was one year back through the update available on settings. Android 3.2 kernel version P7300 JPKL2.
I didnt do much else because I was concerned about the safety and reliability of other softwares. Am I missing out something huge really by not updating? Is Android 4.0 or 4.2 or whatever is latest compatible with my device? Is it better to update through Samsung dealer or it makes no difference doing at home ?
The ics update is way better than what you have now, honeycomb. If your still stock you should be able to get the OTA. Not sure where you are but its in most places now.

The easiest thing would be for you to do an ota update. Make sure your tab is well charged, then go to settings, about device, and select update software. Follow the prompts and you should be updated to android 4.04.

I am currently residing in India, but I brought my device from the middle east. I tried the update option available in settings but it says "no updates available". :crying: I then sent an email to samsung support.
PS: I don't know what "stock" or OTA is.

OTA is the upgrade On The Air
stock firmware is the original samsung firmware
OTA updates (using the settings > update to download update direct to the tablet, and not using a computer) requires that Samsung is ready *in your region*, or specifically in the region the tab's current software is linked to.
You could just grab any package from sammobile, and install with Odin. There is a variant for India available.

On this forum, or Google, you will find info on how to use odin

Is there a way to change the region my tab is connected too? From the firmware site, India does show up a ICS. But the country where I brought my tablet from , United Arab Emirates, don't have one. Maybe thats why I get "no updates available" message.
And do I loose some kind of a warranty if i update using Odin?
Thanks.
Yes, technically that would void your warranty. Some people who don't mind sticking Samsung with the bill will still send there tab back when they break it. The problem with that is that eventually device manufacturers may see that a lot of the devices that they are replacing were messed up by android enthusiasts taking advantage of the open nature of the platform. That gives them a financial interest in making closed platforms, and the community looses.
The upside is that if you do screw up your tab, the community has gotten really good at figuring out how to fix these problems. A little (or a lot) of reading is all it takes to find an answer to most problems.
I definitely think you should read up on odin, clockwork mod, and the roms available. You could have ics or jb on your tab with relatively little work, and it will be like having a whole new tab.

Installing a rom on this tablet seems more complex compared to what I used to do on my windows mobile. Is there any way to install the rom without the need for using a PC?
As far as i know, from ics, you need to use odin to flash cwm.

When i contacted them though mail, they said middle east OTA would come in 2 weeks. I decided to wait for that.
But i was wondering would there be a jelly bean OTA update for 8.9, now that 10.1 got a jelly update? http://www.ibtimes.com/android-412-...-available-us-how-install-it-tutorial-1018162
That article is for the 10.1 note, not the normal 10.1. As far as everything I have seen, it seems there will be no official JB for our tabs.

As far as I understand (which isn't very much, to be honest), you probably can't flash the ATT version to your phone. But if you're interested in rooting your phone and all that, you can probably flash different ROMs that will keep you up to date with the newest Android releases, like CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, AOKP, OmniROM, etc. I don't have all the technical know-how, and I won't tell you which ROMs are "best" or even which are available; you can always check out the Android Development section for that stuff.
push
can anyone give me some information about that
