s0be's is a "DEV-kernel" so not for daily use, yet... He seems to be cranking them out though, hopefully once he stops dropping them (he already has an Aria) someone else with kernel knowledge can pick up the torch.

Need for Wifi Tethering andKernels

Is there anyone around who knows why we haven't seen any custom kernels out? Is there something preventing them, or just no dev interest? The resound seemingly has dozens. I'm used to the evo and then 3d that were swimming in kernels even before launch day. Just wondering what's up.

I think the lack of source code and developers (we only have 4, although quality ones) are the main reasons why we don't have multiple kernels available. So far we only have Sense 3.0 source code and only one unlockable? Kernel from bananacakes.

I personally think the phones performs extremely well without overclockable kernel. It would be nice, but not a deal breaker for me. I think Vivid still trumps skyrocket with its solid feel and more accurate detailed screen. Really though, I'm a huge fan of Sense.
me too, but i would also like to have more control of my device and have the option of multiple roms, i want miui
at this point i regret not getting a skyrock or a pos 4s
All I want is wifi tether to work. I hate having to use sense 3.5 to just have tethering. I prefer 3.0, seems to be better.

For me wifi tethering doesn't work on sense 3.5 ROMs but it does on 3.0.

Is this like the the Inspire?

I had the inspire. Now the vivid. Would flashing an inspire rom work?
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
It is not the same thing. I would stick with the custom roms in the vivid development thread.
It could work with some tweaks but only if you know what you are doing.

Nope. Each phone is different. In time we will get to where the inspire is at. People are working on cm9 once that gets to beta there will be working cm7. In a month or 2 we will have a leaked ICS build from Bell or one of the other telecoms and people can start working on android 4.0 with Sense 3.5 or 4 whatever the use.

Each phone may run the Android OS, but the way the software interacts with the hardware is based on the hardware itself. It is possible, but unless you are a veteran dev I'd be careful. The phones are very different.
Sent from my HTC... 'nuff said.
Yeah, even though they are both HTC, they are two different phones with two different chipsets. So, a rom thats been developed for an inspire will not just install on to a vivid. It would have to be ported over. Kinda the same way that a rom for a Samsung Galaxy S will not work on a Galaxy S II, or a rom for a Galaxy S II will not work on a Galaxy S II Skyrocket.

Compatible Roms for the Vivid on Straight Talk.

Hello again all. My friend ended up purchasing the Vivid and we'll be activating it on Straight Talk shortly. My question now is this:
What roms are compatible? I see a lot of them with AT&T in the name/description. Would these be unusable? All I/she wants is to have a stable and preferably debloated ICS ROM. Everything else is gravy. Thoughts?

All of them are usable. If you want a de-bloated ics rom try rum float by pirate ghost.
All you need are the correct APN settings and your good.
Ah, you all are a Godsend. I'm just used to doing things simply on Verizon, so all this is new to me. Time to get cracking!
Err....didn't he pull his roms?

He is on a different site now. Just Google his name and rom.

Do we have a unified kernel?

And if so does that mean we can flash roms from other variants of the one? or do they require tweaking?
Depends on the kernel. A dev might make theirs universal. But since we have different radios, ours will be a little bit different. So if you want your data and voice to work, I'd stick with the kernels in this sprint HTC one forum.

Compare the defconfigs to see. Your ramdisks should be close enough. If your configs are a bit different, merge them if possible and see if it works on all variants.

I believe Faux kernel works for all One's but it doesn't mean you can flash any rom. Only intl roms that works with our phone as far as I know is Renovate and Trickdroid.

awesome thanks for all the replies. Ill go poke around in the int. forums

Quick, grab it before they realize what they did and pull it!!!
Can anyone with ROM making knowledge tell me if this will be useful for us, considering we use the CDMA version of the phone?

Hardware is almost exactly the same
Also. Kernel has almost nothing to do with cellular connections, it specifies how the software should interact with the hardware and nothing else
The GPE port and 4.2.2 sense 5 ports are both using kernels made for the international version

So we have to wait for HTC to release 4.2 CDMA radios, or CDMA 4.3 radios, for those roms to work? Like we have the google edition port, but data doesn't work. What do we need to get that fixed?
No we don't have to wait for that. We have all we need to get it working now. Just give it a few mire days.

I would say once Verizon gets the One progress can be made... But at this rate, we will get an official update before they release the device. Lol

And on that note, 4.3 has been released for the Google Edition phones. http://www.theverge.com/2013/8/2/4584200/galaxy-s4-and-htc-one-google-play-editions-receiving-android-4-3
I am so jelly right now. Well, at least porting it to the CMDA One shouldn't be that difficult if I'm understanding correctly.
