Remote Call App? - LG Optimus 2x

So what's up with the LG RemoteCall app. Do you all have it?
When I launched it it requested root access... very interesting for a stock app... how do they expect it to work on unrooted phones?
I've now "denied" it access, don't want ghosts in the machine.

Some apps check for root access in order to check if the device is rooted.
Since nothing will happen on a normal phone, it'll just silently pretend nothing is happening. Whereas on a rooted phone you would get the popup, and it could execute something else.

Good point, that's the likely explanation.

Anybody know what the RemoteCall app is for?

I have read somewhere that the Remote Call is used by LG to access your phone for repair purposes and stuff like that. That's why it won't do anything on the moment.
I'll try to find the website where i have found this info later on.

i tapped the app an put on my tin foil hat cus now lg knows i voided the warranty on my phone and logged it so i can't (if needed) send it for repair
(this is not a fact just me being paranoid)

remotecall
i installed app in htp, alcatel and lg phones and pc but i dont see option for a connect to Mobil, any idea?

RemoteCall for support reps
The RemoteCall app is used by the LG reps to support their customers. They will connect to your phone remotely through the app. I think it's available only phone in EU and south america though..
I scanned with Google's DDMS but there was no special data going to their server.. lg.startsupport.com.. The LG rep assured that no personal infor is being sent to them..

Re-use od Remote Call App
Hi,
did somebody figure out if it is possible to use the remote call app to remote to my own phone?

Copy-Protected Apps in Market with 3rd Party ROMS

Is there any workaround...?
Whats the problem ?
All the apps i have ever bought / downloaded, via the market work fine.
I believe this is what he's talking about

http://androinica.com/2009/02/23/some-paid-apps-unavailable-on-unlocked-phones/
It appears that as of February, Google made it so whenever a developer selects the "Copy Protected" option when listing their application on the marketplace, that application will not appear for any rooted phone or developer phone. Basically it seems they did this because a rooted or developer phone can extract the APK file after purchasing an app, and then return it while still keeping the application.
I recently became aware of this today as I was working with a developer to determine why his application would not appear in the market. It's a shame - the majority of the root community is not out there to STEAL apps, we support our developers, I was trying to find his application on the market so I could BUY it. I really wanted to purchase the application and now I have no way to do it, simply because I wanted to use my phone to it's full extent instead of being stuck on the stock firmware.

Search for the application Accudial on the market. It's copy protected. I get 0 results. Thats the one Example I am aware of but it also could be related to the fact that I'm on a 2.0.1 ROM instead of the older ones, switching back to test again. It's kind of hard to determine whether or not there are apps being hidden from us, if we don't know the app exists how are we gonna know it's hidden from our results?
It's because your on a Eclair rom..just searched on the WG 10 (Donut) and got AccuDial and AccuDial Free
Yeah I'm switching back to the latest CM ROM right now. But when I was running 2.0.1/Eclair, I was trying to download an application designed for 2.0 and it did not appear in the market - the developer said the only requirement he placed on it was that the phone be 2.0 or higher, so we came to the conclusion that it was the copy protection blocking the app.
But regardless of that - what about those links in my first post? Google Employees reply in those articles openly admitting that access to copy protected apps have been blocked from rooted and dev phones. Did Google quietly "undo" this between now and then? I can't find anything that says they did.

They did lift the "block", I know of at least 2 protected apps that I can use, Nesoid and Mobile Defense (not protected anymore but it ised to be)
Right now, I can only find Accudial Free but not Accudial. I'm on Cyan 4.2.9.1.
Maybe that's because I'm not in the US??? Or that I don't have a Google Checkout account???
Thanks!

The fair labor standards act was passed in 1938. Still in effect today. Just because Google made the change 10 months ago doesn't mean it suddenly was removed.. Whenever I search on the topic all I can find is info that says that access to copy protected apps been disallowed, can't find any article that mentions them removing the block.
I'm not saying it hasn't been removed, but it's kind of hard for me to know whether or not i'm being blocked from applications, I don't know what ones are copy protected and what ones aren't, or if theyre being blocked from me, because they simply wouldn't show up and I wouldn't even know they exist.
If the block has in fact been removed, it'd be nice to see if anyone could find an article that mentions it. Everything online talks about the block being placed

Edit 2: Market Enabler works by mimicking certain APNs, be sure to backup your current APN first and restore it after getting the apps (it can be done within Market Enabler).
Cheers.

[SEARCH] Anti Thief App

I know there a lots of them on market. But I dont have the nerve to test them all. Can somebody recommend an app that sends me the phone number of the inserted sim card per SMS.
Would be cool if it also could send me the GPS location in a pre configured interval per SMS.
Thx...
i found one that is working perfectly for me...
App name ist "lost phone"

Not exactly what you're looking for, but Mobile Defense is a great, free anti-theft app with GPS tracking and remote lock.
I use WaveSecure. It has GPS tracking, online backup, remote wipe, remote lock, sms alerts and (importantly) uninstall protection.
I got a free subscription a couple of months back but I think you have to pay now.
Wouldn't a wipe via recovery console erase everything though?

Yea, you can always wipe from recovery but that isn't well known outside forums like this. It's unlikely a thief would figure that out before you've tracked him down and sent the rozzers round.
I found Mobile Security but I guess the app dev is no native english speaker (like me). His description for the "Security Code" feature is hard to read and understand. Any chance someone uses this app and can explain it to me?

Did you even check out the www.mobiledefense.com? I will report the current SIM information, including phone number. If you are rooted and install the app in system/app, it can also turn on the GPS itself, telling you the location of the phone.

jepp, I did. The thing is I forgot to mention: its only available to Users in the United States
Besides Mobile Defense, there is Lookout. Although I don't think it has as much features though. I haven't kept up with it so I'm not sure. I don't think they give you the option to wipe your phone, but I'm positive they can do it if you ask them to.

Have you asked them about when they're planning to launch outside the United States? They might not be too far away.
What about viable alternatives for users looking for free protection outside the US?
Has anyone tried Anti DT (http://www.antidroidtheft.com/)? I've installed it but never used it (Thank God).
Features that are advertised on the website?
Email alerts when someone changes SIM cards
Online location tracking of your android device using GPS or Cell Towers (Any Web Browser)
Spy Camera: View images taken from your phone's camera.

I also found "Lost Phone" one of the easyest. AND working, coz I have tried some other, inserted other SIM and nothing happening.. TRY before you buy and get your phone stolen
Too bad there isn't a wipe included. So to complete my anti-theft I added "Remote Wipe". Didn't test this one yet, need to backup my 16gb card first, don't wanna loose all that
If you have sensitive material from work on your phone you need something like this. Those two together put my heart at rest and bring me a "safer" phone.
I will give you a list as my G1 was stolen, I know these apps worked becuase it wokred for me but, the f*#^in" dumb... asssss I was saying... the cops never helped me go retrieve the phone. GPS number, cell number, and G1 box with IMEI number provided.
Enough with bad memories.... The List is :
Sim Checker will let you know of a new sim inserted in the phone as well as, the number and gps coordinates/number/location(address)
Wavesecure lets you add friends so they'll also know when your phone is stolen with features such as, Remote Sd card format, Remote lock, Phones will lock with an unknown sim, gps tracking, and backup of contacts, sms, call log, and now has uninstall protection.
GPS Tracker by Instamapper is a great way to track your phone in real time.
There are so many choices... I'd get them all!
Check out this one
This one identifies itself by IMEI, for each device a own APK is created.
You can control your mobile with sms commands, the itself is invisible, no app icon, nothing, and it can be changed to a system app.
Great
(I am NOT the dev, and I don't know him )

[Q] LG Remote Call app requested root access

I've found this thread for the LG X2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988046
Does anybody know some more info why this app requests for root access when the phone is rooted?
I know it's meant to use for when a support engineer from LG want's to remotely access your phone. But why would it request root when rooting isn't allowed for warranty?
Nice question
Scam
I don't think root is needed for the app. I think it enables the remote helper to detect root on your device so they can "help" you by blaming all your problems on the fact that you rooted your phone.
Haha, yeah probably. It's true that the app can work without root. But the moment the device is rooted this app will request su permissions. Anyways, I'm never going to use that app. Here in the forums they know more about this phone then the support engineers from LG. So no need for those -often not very helpful- support people.

[Q] Updated to kitkat 4.4.4 No knox application

Hello all, I hope all is well. I received the update to 4.4.4 a few weeks ago. However, all i got from the update was all the ATT bloatware(Uber,Kids Mode, etc). I am curious as to why I didn't get Knox 2.0, while a my friends were able to. I contacted samsung about it and all i was told was the application "Knox application has been stopped from this version."
So i guess my question to the community is, is there a work around for this? I have tried downloading the apk but even so after installing it I cant open the app on my phone, only the icon is there. I like my phone as is so I would prefer not to root it, but is that my only option at this point if I want the Knox app?
Thanks in advance for any input.
~Azure
Why would you ever want Knox?.. Tr....
Some of us like having a 2nd locked screen for work and for home... our like me that uses my phone for fire/ems/home/work
I understand what knox does with profiles and different containers...But the 90% of us have no choice, Many users get worried when installing perhaps a camera app from market and the permission says "location"..Sometimes they won't even download it then...But "Knox" is "Highest Admin" And can virtually do anything on demand to our phones...And we have "No" choice to except or not...It's just there...
The Op stated that he doesn't have "Knox" 2.0 ?
Your not Rooted otherwise you could check to see if you have it installed.
> In "System/App/FixmoISA.Apk
Do you see that file? That's one of many files or apps hiding withing your phone and the manifest files says its currently active and running. And my rom supposedly has Knox remvoed...lol

Hello, as zaptear posted I would like to have the 2nd locked screen for work. I checked and I do have the aforementioned FixmoIsa apk on my phone.

Something on my phone wants to talk to Facebook

I have the Amazon version of the G7 Plus. On my home network, I am running Pi-Hole as a DNS server. When reviewing the logs on Pi-Hole, the most active device on the network is my phone. Among the requests it send out, it is trying to send requests to 'web.facebook.com', 'graph.facebook.com' and connect.facebook.net'
I have never had Facebook installed on this phone. I don't use a web browser to access it either. I have closed all my apps and disable background data on all installed apps. It is still trying to talk to Facebook.
Is there a way I can identify what app is making these requests? In a 24-hour period, it has made nearly 500 requests. That boil down to a request every 3 min 30 seconds. If I can identify the app, I can decide if it's worth keeping.

So...I followed the instructions for adb. Since this was an unlocked phone that I bought from Amazon and since I am using a prepaid MVNO, I wasn't sure what to put in the 'OEM' or 'Carrier' variables. I downloaded and installed the App Inspector app. I scrolled through every entry on the list and could not find any that had anything resembling Facebook in it.
Anything else I can try? Thanks for all your help.
