I feel like for me, the volume on the speaker on the samsung captivate is a little on the low side. Its not REALLY LOW, its just that I would like a little bit higher, so I'm wondering how I can raise the speaker above MAX. I've tried things with secret codes and going into the menu and changing some numbers in the audio menu, but editing those numbers to a 100 and other numbers didn't make a difference with me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

much louder and there will be too much distortion...
Turn it up to 11 .....

Yeah I heard that you can use Galaxy Tuner, but when I downloaded it it was really confusing and I didnt know how to use it. Would you please mind telling me how I can use it to raise the volume above max? Thanks!

I wouldn't bother with the Galaxy tuner. Just dial in that code a couple posts above and go from there. It will allow you to go to 100%
Even using that dialer code and going from 92 to 100 I didn't notice much if any of a difference.
I just downloaded Galaxy Tuner, but am not quite sure how to use it as well.

Interesting. I use Audio Manager Console from the Market to keep all audio sliders on full, but using this code I found several settings in the 80s. Are the settings accessible by this code always untouched by any app settings on the phone? I put everything in the list to 96, but I'm not seeing much, if any, difference in volume levels.

Is the graphic equilizer the same as hardware equalizer beacuse I cant find graphic equalizer sliders.
i want it to be over 9000
but being serious, any other way to boost volume?
I've mentioned this before in other posts...my Captivate running the stock 2.1 is very loud. The ringer, the earpiece and the spear phone are all perfectly audible in loud environments.
Enter in ROOT and flashable ROMS.
Once I started flashing ROMs the audio is too low. I can't hardly hear a conversation on the earpiece while driving my '08 Tahoe LT, and it's a really quiet vehicle.
When I flash back to stock 2.1 to ready the device for a new ROM, it's loud again. So the last time I decided to see where it went low in the flashing process. I found that immediately after applying Clockwork Mod, PRIOR to flashing a new ROM, is where the audio drops off.
I don't know why CWM lowers the volume, but it would sure be nice if some of these brilliant devs could fix it. With the lack of any decent handsets on the at&t horizon, I'm going to be using this Captivate for a good while longer.

EDIT : Never mind. For all the other dummies out there, you hit the menu button and go from there. Thx anyway.
Am I really this dumb ? I made it to the last step, and when you say "change to any number", I can't figure out how to do that. It says "Input?", but there is no keypad or up/down buttons or anything. How do you enter a new value ?
EDIT :
p.s. :
I upped the volume from default 92 to 99 and it made a big improvement.
I agree with other post that previously (Cog 3.04) the max volume was sufficient. The I flashed Cog 4.2.2 and existz beta #7 kernel and the max speaker volume wasn't quite loud enough to listen to music in a quiet room unless I held the phone up close to my ear.

First post here, long time lurker . I tried the dialer method and noticed no difference whatsover in volume.
I just tried the Galaxy Tuner and wow, the speaker is really really loud now.
Here is how I did it:
1. Open Galaxy Tuner
2. Go into Sound (3D, Hw EQ)
3. Enable "Use 3D Sound". Turn it all the way up.
4. Enable "Use Hw EQ". Turn all the tabs all the way up.
5. Click on "Apply."
I noticed a huge difference in sound (speaker volume is now really loud). Not really sure how it will affect call volume and the speaker on the receiving end.
Thanks.
Get the spinal tap app. It lets you go to 11!

Did this, made the speakerphone and button click sounds louder (kinda pingy?), but didn't help the regular earpiece speaker on voice calls.

Never did get a sloution for this, except by covering the speaker with my finger
Would be interested to know if there's reg hack, then we could pass it to the Kaiser Tweak guys!
There may be 3 ways to improve your situation.
The first would be to change from long tones to short tones. This wont reduce the volume, but if you have it set on long, it will shorten the amount of time the tone is emitted.
(Phone>Menu>Options> then change keypad to short tones)
The secdond would be to do the same as above, but to change it to "Nothing"
The third would be to turn t vibrate using KaiserTweak (a great app by the genii of xda-dev.com) where there is a setting to change the phone keypresses from tones to vibrate (KaiserTweak: Call > Dialer Button Behaviour"
u can also click on the speaker icon and bring down the volume for the mobile icon. but this will reduce the overall volume of ur device.

i dont have this option on my kaiser tweak
make sure u update your xml file, provided by nikagl
i have the one from dec. 9 and even on his post under calls it doesnt show a Call > Dialer Button Behaviour"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349009
thats the latest, and i just checked there is no dialer button behavior.
Only solution i can think of is that you would need to turn down the system volume, since it is a system sound. However, you can try searching for the dialer sounds, modifying them with a sound editor(decrease the amp, or something like that.) so you can keep your system volume up, while dialer doesnt deafen you.

If you looks through the Kaiser Tweaks thread, it's in there. Not in the actual xml thread, but in the one where you post questions. You could try searching vibrating keypad and variations of the like. He actually made an xml file for it, and it's posted in that thread, he just didn't include it in the official release.
I tried it out, and it seemed to work fine. Like a dummy, I stopped using it, because I thought it would no longer work with automated systems (like checking voicemail etc.) but then I realized the sound I hear has nothing to do with the info transmitted by the phone lol, so I may have to give it another try.
i found the right XML file with more tweaks than i had...for those that want it here it is
Lovely - I hadn't noticed the Tweak update - All quiet now!
I noticed that despite changing in call volume settings and system volume settings, the volumes are linked together.
Has this always been the way? I seem to recall my WM6 phone (Hermes) remembering in call volumes and keeping it seperate from the system volume -but I may be wrong.
I want to lower my in call volume, but the hardware volume buttons don't seem to make that much of a differnce - and not to mention they adjust the system volume as well.
I have read through all the other volume related threads I can find. I think this is the first time someone actually wants to lower the diamond's earpiece volume!
Effectively you have 3 volumes. Unless you are in a call then the volume buttons only give you access to the system and ring volumes. As far as I know you can only adjust the in call volume in call (there will be a registry option also but I don't know where sorry).
Anyway when you start your call before you put the phone to your ear (and the screen goes off) press volume up or down and it will change your call volume.
I figured out what it was... it was due to me disabling the diamond phone skin.
You lose volume functionality.
And if the settings is "silent", even the music player, via earphones, is silent?

I've disabled the Diamond skin yet I am able to independently adjust the in-call volume... in-call. System/ringer volume is adjustable at all other times.

If you disable the diamond dialer skin and have HTC volume control enabled you will not be able to alter the in call volume. To adjust in call volume using default windows dialer skin you also have to disable HTC volume control.
Ah, yes, I do seem to recall having disabled the HTC Volume too with DiamondTweak.

Hi guys,
I do not want to use "Diamond dialer Skin" because of the S2U2, so I have disable it. However, there is no way to alter the in call volume (I have activate and deactivate HTC volume control with Diamond Tweaker, but no way).
Any help?
Thanks in advance

Each time a call is incoming, in the first few seconds the dialler skin appears. After that, the normal S2U2 screen appears again (with "slide to answer"...). If you touch accidentally the option "Answer" of the dialler skin by accident in these few seconds, it will answer the call.
I have added something in the registry (to be honest, I can not remember right now) that it was supposed to fix this trouble, but no way...

Does that mean the volume buttons will no longer work during a call but you will get a volume adjuster on the screen...or will the volume buttons still change the in call volume. dont know about anyone else but I find the volume buttons a bit too fiddly and 'sunk' too far...probably nicer to look at though...
I mean that the volume buttons will not work any more. The only way they work in my Diamond is activating "Diamond Dialer Skin", but with this, I get the S2U2 problem...

Thank you very much for the answer.
Anyway, I do know how to configure the volume (I use a "Profiles" software that can adjust the volume). The point is to be able to change the in call volume during the call.
To be honest, I can hardly believe that no one has deactivate "Diamond Skin Phone" and had no trouble with this
I'm using the dialer skin, but when i am talking with someone, adjusting the volume up/down, it always reset it to lowest. Any advice?
hi!
I have a small wish:
I would like to avoid that people in my office hear when I dial a number in the sound Normal profile.
If I go to Settings/sounds and try to diminuish the System Volume (on the bottom of the screen) also the Rings volume will change?
If I use the Vibrate profile, fine no problem there is no sound. But that is not what I would like..
Maybe you have an Idea
Hey, if you use the volume rocker on the side you have the option to decrease the system volume and ring volume.
So decrease the volume on the rocker and then look at the top of the screen... click "System" and decrease the volume to zero.
Hope that helps

my Friend is Using Stock ICS 4.0.4 everytime he makes a call , he always have to toggle noise reduction off to be able to hear him on the other line.. can someone know how to permanently disable it? thanks
You can do this by pressing the menu button while in call status then press the "Noise Reduction Off".
Samsung Galaxy S2 increase microphone volume
- Type this code on your Galaxy S2 dial pad *#*#197328640#*#*
- A number coded menu will then show.
- Now press [5] AUDIO
- Next [1] NB (VOICE CALL)
- Next [1] HANDSET
- Next [1] VOLUME
-Next [1]SRC SPEECH RX Volume
- Then [5]5_lvl: 90 ( the 90 is the input value of the microphone volume level, yours might have a different value than 90. Just remember the default value of yours so that you can use it to revert it back again)
Now, on that window there's a line stated "Input". You are going to edit or change the input value which can be done by pressing the Menu button, then the "Key Input". Write down 110 as your new maximum microphone input level and then press "OK" This is just like adjusting the volume knob of your audio amplifier to maximize the loudness.

What about the code I should type for galaxy note 2 n7100 ?
This code *#*#197328640#*#* is not working for note 2

Audio in main menu doesn't work
My 4.0.3 on my Note I N-7000 doesn't come up with any thing everything is working fine.
What should I do, the noise cancelling is always not working whatever the setting is.
I didn't find anything with the search function, so here it goes:
Whenever you're on the homescreen with your One, and use the volume keys, normally my ringtone/notification volume changes, and I can make the phone go to silent/vibrate mode. If I played a game or used an other sound-using app, close it, and go back to the homescreen and try to change the volume again, it changes the media volumes. It's almost as if the audio process is still running and the One thinks it needs to change the media volume instead of ringtone/notification volume.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? (Or is it a feature, and if so, how can change/fix it?)
Thanks

Cool... Someone is making an inquiry about operation of the volume button and you suggested a restart sequence?
Anyways! Try pressing once the volume button. A mini volume window should pop up there should be a button on the right corner. Pressing it will direct you to the complete volume settings window.

Thanks for your reply. Your solution is not exactly what I meant, first of all there is no button on the right corner when changing the media volume. Only when changing the notification/ringtone volume. Second of all I'm not sure I explained well enough what the problem is, so I'll try again:
Situation: A fresh rebooot. When you are on your home screen and change the volume, you'll change the volume of your notifications and ringtone. This is what I want and works fine, when you put the volume all the way down it will go to vibrate mode, or silent mode. Perfect.
Now when I played a few games or listened to some music, closed those apps and I am back on the homescreen. I change the volume with the volume keys but instead of changing the notification and ringtone volume I change the media volume. I can't set my One to vibrate or silent using the volume keys now. This is not what I want, since I want the behaviour as I described earlier.
If I now go to settings -> Sounds -> Volumes I can ofcourse change the volumes I want, but this is more actions than I want to, and apparently isn't necessary as well. Change the ringtone volume there, then going back to the homescreen and using volume keys again, it still changes the media volume, again, this is not what I want.
So the problem is that after playing games/music the volume keys won't revert back to changing the notification/ringtone sounds but in stead keeps changing the media keys.

Doesn't happen here. do you have an exact sequence of which games/music apps you have been using? It possible that one of them is not closing down properly, have you tried going to the app manager and seeing which programs are running then force closing possible culprits until you find which is giving the problem?

I've seen the same issue with my Moto X now a year later. For me, the only fix has been the same that's referenced above--to go to the recent apps menu and swipe away the app that initiated the switch to controlling media volume as opposed to ringtone volume. Seems to work pretty well for me.
App is still active
Hey, I was having the exact same problem. It just started recently and I just figured it was because of a game (Real Racing 3). Even though I wasn't in the game, I guess it was still active in memory and keeping hold of the media output. I killed the app and my ringtone volume buttons work normally now.
